Marjorie Meacham

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Marjorie Whisonant Meacham, 78, of 529 Arch Drive died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service was Friday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating.

A native of York County, Mrs. Meacham was a daughter of the late Clarence P. Whisonant and Winnie Lowery Whisonant. She was a member of Park Baptist Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Frank Roach Post No. 34 and Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of LeFeems. She was retired as a cashier at A&P after more than 20 years service.

Surviving are her brother, Clarence P. Whisonant Jr. of Mobile, Ala.; her sister, Sue W. Nelson of Rock Hill; three nephews, David Giles, Jeff Giles and Joe Giles, all of Rock Hill; and two great-nieces.

Bud Sexton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Neely H. "Bud" Sexton Sr., 70, of 6075 Mount Gallant Road died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tirzah ARP Church, with the Rev. Jan Senneker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Sexton was the son of the late George L. Sexton and Emma Joy Sexton. He was the widower of Freida Rose Presswood Sexton. A life long member of Tirzah ARP Church, Mr. Sexton was retired from Westinghouse's mechanical department.

Surviving are two sons, Neely H. Sexton Jr. and Patrick B. Sexton, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Arthur Sexton and Bob Sexton, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary S. Henderson of Rock Hill and Dorothy McCracken of Myrtle Beach; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home, 6075 Mt. Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC.

Memorials may be made to Tirzah ARP Church building fund, 6161 Mount Gallant Road, York, SC 29745.

Mozelle Benfield

YORK - Mrs. Mozelle Shipton Benfield, 78, of 302 Blackburn St. died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Phil Lemmons officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Benfield was a daughter of the late Charlie Shipton and Mary Frances Scarlett Shipton. She was a retired spinner for Cannon Mills in York and was a member of Gloryland Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, James Benfield; four sons, Randy Benfield, Joey Benfield, Tommy Benfield and David Benfield, all of York; four daughters, Shirley Benfield Polk, Mary Frances Horne and Sandy Benfield, all of York, and Sheila Benfield Zirkle of Filbert; 33 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Minnie Blair

NEWBERRY - Mrs. Minnie Dodd Blair, 84, formerly of 2094 Thomson Quarters Road in Sharon, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bullock's Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Dr. Kenneth Harmon and Clyde Mitchem officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Mars Hill, N.C., Mrs. Blair was a daughter of the late Johnny Crate Dodd and Lillie Allen Dodd. She was a member of Bullock's Creek Presbyterian Church, where she was an ordained deacon, former Sunday school teacher, choir member and a Women of the Church member. She also attended First Baptist Church in Newberry, where she was a member of the Kyria Sunday school class and Park's prayer group.

A graduate of Mills Home High School and Gastonia Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, she was a nurse at Hope Clinic and Wallace Thompson Hospital. She retired as plant nurse for Lockhart Mill. She was the widow of W.C. "Billy" Blair.

Surviving are her daughter, Patsy Parks of Newberry; two sons, Jim Blair of Lockhart and Bill Blair of Brandon, Miss.; two brothers, Harrold Dodd of Alabama and Woodrow Dodd of Asheville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home in Union. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fortanbary, 7410 Lockhart Highway, Sharon.

Betty Jo Ferguson

YORK - Mrs. Betty Jo Ferguson, 59, of 233 Charlotte St. died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Bratton Funeral Home in York will announce funeral arrangements.

John Ford III

CHESTER - Mr. John Asbury "Johnny" Ford III, 48, of 1529 Orrs Station Road died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. Ford was a son of the late John "Jack" Asbury Ford Jr. and Nell Johnson Ford. He worked as an auto mechanic. He graduated from Chester High School and attended York Technical College in Rock Hill.

Surviving are his son, U.S. Army Pvt. 2 Johnny Ford IV of Arizona; his brother, Fred Ford of Orangeburg; and his sister, Beverly Sullivan of Clarksville, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 995, Chester, SC 29706.

Ryan Henkel

GASTONIA, N.C. - Ryan Craig Henkel, 11, of 4636 Lenden Hall Court died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Service, Southside Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Ryan was the son of Andrew Hines Henkel and Karen Hurley Henkel.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Tyler Andrew Henkel of the home; his maternal grandparents, J.E. Hurley and Louise Hurley of Mount Holly, N.C.; and paternal grandparents, Bob Henkel and Edna Henkel of Clover.

Donald Jones

LANCASTER - Mr. Donald Robert Jones, 60, of 1340 Shiloh Ranch Road died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Chappell officiating.

A native of Galveston, Texas, Mr. Jones was a son of H. Roswell Jones and Geraldine Bruner Jones of Lancaster. He was the owner and operator of Lan-scape and attended Harvest Time Church of God. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jo Rinard Jones; two sons, Donald Roswell Jones of California and William "Billy" Joseph Jones of Lancaster; his daughter, Tonya Lorraine Jones of Arizona, his stepson, Donald Thomas "Tommy" West Jr. of the home; two brothers, W. Roswell Jones of Pittsburgh and Thomas C. Jones of Cleveland; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Home.

Louise Quick

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Louise Allen McIntosh Quick, 76, of 1600 Anthony St. died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Beverly Manor.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael D. Ritter officiating.

A native of Augusta, Mrs. Quick was a daughter of the late Guilford Cade McIntosh and Addie Marcella Tinsley McIntosh. She worked at and supported Gracewood Home for the Handicap in Augusta. She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Roach of Rock Hill.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bud Sexton Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Neely H. "Bud" Sexton Sr., 70, of 6075 Mount Gallant Road died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday at Tirzah ARP Church, with the Rev. Jan Senneker officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Born in York County, Mr. Sexton was a son of the late George L. Sexton and Emma Joy Sexton. Mr. Sexton was an avid fisherman and clock collector. He was a member of Tirzah ARP Church. He retired from Westinghouse in the mechanical department. He was the widower of Freida Rose Presswood Sexton.

Surviving are two sons, Neely H. Sexton Jr. and Patrick B. Sexton, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Arthur Sexton and Bob Sexton, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary S. Henderson of Rock Hill and Dorothy McCracken of Myrtle Beach; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Tirzah ARP Church Building Fund, 6161 Mount Gallant Road, York, SC 29745.

Beulah Stroud

CHESTER - Mrs. Beulah "Cookie" DeGraffenreid Stroud, 56, of 208 Jewel St. died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Rehoboth AME Zion Church, with the Rev. W.H. Woods Jr. officiating and the Rev. Moses Hayes assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Chester County, Mrs. Stroud was a daughter of the late George DeGraffenreid Sr. and Beulah Brown DeGraffenreid Colvin. She was the widow of William Stroud. A member of Rehoboth AME Zion Church, she attended public school in Chester County and was a former textile worker.

Surviving are two nephews, whom she raised, Michael DeGraffenreid and Damian Blackmon, both of Chester; two brothers, George DeGraffenreid Jr. and James Colvin, both of Richburg; three sisters, Betty J. Jones and Rosie Blackmon, both of Chester and Mary E. Jones of Rock Hill; and her stepfather, Eddie B. Colvin of Richburg.

The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Betty Jones, 708 Saluda Road, Chester.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

Frances Thompson

PINEVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Frances Lucine Holmes Thompson, 91, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at her home in Pineville.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Park Circle Presbyterian Church in North Charleston. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.

A native of Moultrie, Ga., Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late F. Olin and Gemmie Parrish Holmes. She attended Adel, Ga., public schools and Georgia State Teachers College. A teacher for several years, Mrs. Thompson also studied law and served as a law clerk at the firm of former Georgia Gov. Ed Rivers and Judge Thomas Miller.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church, where she headed the Women of the Church. She served as a Cub and Girl Scout leader and co-founded the Cherokee Place United Methodist kindergarten.

Mrs. Thompson twice served as president of the Camellia Garden Club. She chaired and co-founded the Summerville Iris Society and started several junior garden clubs in North Charleston.

She received a Life Membership in the National Council of Garden Clubs and the Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Charleston Council of Garden Clubs. Most recently she resided in Pineville, where she was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church.

She was a widow of Lt. Col. Robert Thompson Sr.

Surviving are her daughter, Laura "Betsy" Burba of Pineville; her son, Robert Thompson Jr. of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Stuhr's North Area Funeral Chapel in North Charleston and at 1 p.m. Monday at Park Circle Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

Betty Jo Ferguson

YORK - Mrs. Betty Jo Johnson Ferguson, 59, of 233 Charlotte St. died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bratton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Olivine Martin officiating and the Rev. Richard Pitts assisting. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Born in Rock Hill, Mrs. Ferguson was a daughter of the late Julian Johnson and Nora Lee Brock Johnson. She was a homemaker and attended Bright Light Freewill Baptist Church. She was the widow of John Bell Ferguson Sr.,

Surviving are her son, John Bell Ferguson Jr. of Monroe; her daughter, Brenda Kay Ferguson Medlin of the home; her brother, Earl Johnson of York; her sister, Judy J. Sauso of Sharon; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Rosa Wheeler

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Rosa Martin Wheeler, 55, of 504 E. Black St. died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. William P. Shytle officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of McAdenville, N.C., Mrs. Wheeler was a daughter of the late William H. Chapman and Hazel Ruby Huffstetler Chapman. She was the regional vice president of sales for MOC Corp. and was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Fort Mill. She attended York Technical College.

Surviving are her husband, Tommy Wheeler; her son, William Paul Mack of Gastonia, N.C.; four daughters, Wanda Kay Wheeler Pew of Honolulu, Marie Espin Tucker of Charlotte, Tonya Wheeler Chopick of Jersey Shore, Pa., and Star Ann Rutledge of Gastonia; her brother, Richard Chapman of Bessemer City, N.C.; two sisters, Melba Moore of Bessemer City and Cathy Meeler of Gastonia; 14 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and other times at the home.
