MONROE, N.C. - Mrs. Ola Mae Ross, 90, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Bethany Health Care in Nashville, Tenn.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park.

A native of York, Mrs. Ross was a daughter of the late Cauley Hinson and Daisy Elizabeth Simpson Hinson. She was the widow of Ney Ross.

Surviving are her son, Phillip "Chee Chee" Ross of Monroe; her daughter, Judy R. Hopton of Nashville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Memorials may be made to the Carolinas ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease) Center, P.O. Box 32861, Charlotte, NC 28232-2861.

Richard Thompson

FORT MILL - Mr. Richard Holly Thompson, 61, of 1536 Cobblestone Court died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Robert McCraven officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Arno, Va., Mr. Thompson was a son of the late William Thompson and Kathleen June Thompson. He retired from Westinghouse Corp. in Pittsburgh with 30 years service. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Geraldine S. Thompson; his son, Richard H. Thompson Jr.; his stepson, Robert Nelson of York; his daughter, Shawn Elizabeth Thompson; two stepdaughters, Kaylyn Skipper of Lancaster and Janice Shepherd of Fort Mill; his sister, Nel Ayers of Frankford, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

William Threatt

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Earl "Bill" Threatt, 56, of 718 Hillcroft Place died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, with the Revs. George Dye and Jan Senneker officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Threatt was a son of the late John Amos Threatt and Bernice Adams Threatt. He was a truck driver for Frito-Lay. He was a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 416 and First Baptist Church in Fort Mill. He served in the Army First Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star. He served in the Air National Guard.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Legg Threatt; his son, Matthew Scott Threatt of Fort Mill; three daughters, Pamela Frances Threatt of Arcata, Calif., Susan Elizabeth Threatt of Fort Mill and Amanda Brooke Threatt of Rock Hill; his brother, John Amos Threatt Jr. of Pageland; four sisters, Arlene Rollins of Lan-caster and Joyce Arrington, Linda Smith and Martha Gardner, all of Fort Lawn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel and other times at home.

Joy Tice

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Mrs. Joy Rosalind Tice, 59, of Deerfield Beach, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at DeVos Chapel at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, 555 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with the Rev. Dr. Synesio Lyra officiating.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Tice was a daughter of the late H.B. Baker of Salisbury, N.C., and Beatrice Ellis Baker Alderman of Rock Hill and her stepfather, the late Harold Alderman of Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, James W. Tice; three sons, James R. Tice of Deerfield Beach and Steven T. Tice and John A. Tice, both of Frank-lin, N.C.; two daughters, Beatrice E. Tice of Rock Hill and Carol J. Lopes of Franklin; and her stepmother, Frances Baker of Salisbury.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 355 N.E. 20th Ave. No. 6, Deerfield Beach, FL 33441.

John Tyson

GREAT FALLS - Mr. John Frank Tyson, 69, of 14716 Highway 21 North died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Tyson was a son of the late William Bogan Tyson and Naomi Greene Tyson. He retired from J.P. Stevens Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church and graduated from Great Falls High School.

Surviving are his wife, Ora Mae Dawkins Tyson; three sons, Johnny R. Tyson of Hopkins, Richard D. Tyson of North Augusta and Gregory S. Tyson of Great Falls; two brothers, Paul A. Tyson of Great Falls and Jack Tyson of Charlotte; four sisters, Vivian T. Gainey of Fort Lawn, Bonnie T. McIver of Belton, Texas, Mary Sue Jones of Columbia and Doris Jackson of Charlotte; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Alice Ward

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Alice Martin Ward, 96, formerly of 1034 Summit Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Brian Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Greenview Cemetery.

A native of Rockingham County, N.C., Mrs. Ward was a daughter of the late G.W. Martin and Isabelle Nance Martin. She was a widow of John Thomas Ward. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She graduated from Women's College in Greensboro, N.C., now UNC-Greensboro. She was a school teacher at Happy Home School for many years. She was a community child-care provider.

Surviving are her son, Frank Ward of Reidsville; her daughter, Emily Alice W. Shivley of York; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at City Funeral Home and other times at her son's home, Frank Ward, 1616 Courtland Ave., Reidsville.

Memorials may be made to the nursery at Main Street United Methodist Church, 221 S. Main St., Reidsville, NC 27320.

Flossie Whiting

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Flossie Mae Gregory Whiting, 75, of 210 Garrison Road died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Union Memorial Garden, with the Revs. Jerry DeVinney and Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Burial will be at Union Memorial Garden.

A native of Union, Mrs. Whiting was a daughter of the late George Gregory Sr. and Lois Bevis Gregory. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, William "David" Rickards Jr. of Columbia, Ewin M. "Ricky" Rickards and James H. Whiting Jr., both of Catawba, and Terry Wayne Whiting of Rock Hill; her daughter, Gail Elizabeth Bigham of Rock Hill; her brother, George G. Gregory Jr. of Murphy, N.C.; four sisters, Lois Sanders of Union, Sarah Kvalheim and Betty Jean Boulware, both of Anderson, and Mary Outz of Las Vegas; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

LANCASTER - Mr. Wade William Adams, 44, of 4831 Taxahaw Road died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Charlie Simmons and Donald Gheant officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Adams was a son of Naye McManus Adams of Lancaster and the late John Strafford Adams.

He was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters, Debbie Richardson and Judy Adams, both of Lancaster; and two brothers, Johnny F. Adams and Bobby Dale Adams, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Cynthia Benfield

GREAT FALLS - Ms. Cynthia Cooper Benfield, 34, of 120 Angel Road died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Chester County Hospital in Chester.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Odell Moseley officiating.

A native of Chester County, Ms. Benfield was a daughter of Linda Logan of Winnsboro and the late Billy Clarence Cooper. A computer programmer, Ms. Benfield was a graduate of Great Falls High School and was on the dean's list when she attended York Technical College.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her daughter, Bailee Benfield of Great Falls; two brothers, Steven Edward Cooper of Great Falls and Willie Cooper of Chester; and two sisters, Crystal Renee Cooper of Pennsylvania and Vickie Lynn Cooper of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Ethel Brown

CHESTER - Mrs. Ethel Adel "Dickerson" Brown, 78, of 614 Maxie Road died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Reggie Parker officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late William Lyles Dickerson and Elizabeth Dean Dickerson. She was a member of Cool Branch Baptist Church and attended Fairfield County schools.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy Nance of Columbia and Dora Phillips of White Oak; two sons, Steve Brown and Dean Brown, both of Chester; three stepdaughters, Shirley Butler and Sandra Brown, both of Columbia, and Mollie Brown of Little Mountain; three sisters, Marie Baker of Chester, Polly Jenkins of Rock Hill and Myrtle Robinson of Anderson; and 12 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Donald Carpenter

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Donald Lee Carpenter, 65, of 1 Birch St. died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Provi-dence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Great Falls Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Henry Adams officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Anson County, Mr. Carpenter was a son of the late Roman Joseph Carpenter and Fannie Beatrice Outen Carpenter. He retired from J.P. Stevens as a loom fixer and instructor. He was a member of Great Falls Church of the Nazarene. He attended Anson County, N.C., schools. He was a deputy at the Chester County Sheriff's Department. He was an officer with the Great Falls Police Department. He was a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277, Hejaz Temple and of the Order of the Woodman of the World.

Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Carpenter; his stepson, George A. "Eddie" Wood of Columbia; two stepdaughters, Donna W. Wingate of Chester and Frances Virginia "Ginny" West of Rock Hill; his half-sister, Vonzie Hamilton of Buffalo; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Robert Cox

MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. Robert C. Cox, 70, of Avenue North died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, with the Revs. Greg Black and Gene Plyler officiating.

A native of Middletown, Ohio, Mr. Cox was a son of the late Raymond Cox and Elsie Bold Cox. He retired as supervisor of mailing and printing services from Armoco Steel Corp. in Middletown with 35 years service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, Ohio; the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio; the Lincoln Lodge Chapter 87 of Middletown, Ohio; the Omar Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Charleston; and the Grand Chapter 93 of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, Janice Plyler Cox of Myrtle Beach; his son, Denis M. Cox of Middletown; three daughters, Deborah C. Mazzoni of Leawood, Kan., Karen Bailey of South Fulton, Tenn., and Sharon Reno of Wickliffe, Ky.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Frances Harrison

GREENWOOD - Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Mahaffey Harrison, 75, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Wesley Commons in Greenwood.

A graveside service will be noon today at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Mike Rouse officiating.

A native of Pineville, N.C., Mrs. Harrison was a daughter of the late William F. Mahaffey and Ollie Hood Mahaffey. She was the widow of C.M. Harrison. She retired from J.P. Stevens in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her son, Wayne Harrison of Charlotte; two daughters, Sue Faile of Rock Hill and Judy Jerome of Greenwood; three brothers, W.F. Mahaffey of Fort Mill, D.J. Mahaffey of Clover and Don Mahaffey of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary Ellen Harrison and Betty Jo Collins, both of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service.
