Willie Mae Willis

YORK - Mrs. Willie Mae "Ted" Willis, 95, of 11 Northbrook Drive died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Allen Price officiating.

A native of McColl, Mrs. Willis was a daughter of the late William McCollum and Mary Rodgers McCollum. A retired merchant, she was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her brother, L.T. McCollum of Rock Hill; her grandson, Charles Cooper of Rock Hill; and one granddaughter, Anne Cooper of York.

Merlene Wood

FORT MILL - Mrs. Merlene Walker Wood, 61, of Dogwood Lane died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at 1330 Gardendale Road.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Fort Mill Church of God, with Pastor David Kemp officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Fort Mill, Mrs. Wood was a daughter of the late Virgel Walker and Edna Collins Walker. She was a graduate of Fort Mill High School. She worked for Founders Federal Credit Union for 35 years, where she was assistant branch manager and a loan officer.

Surviving are her sister, Betty Wood of Fort Mill; and one step-daughter.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Fort Mill Church of God and other times at 1330 Gardendale Road.

The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home.

James Jenkins

MONROE, N.C. - Mr. James David "Jim" Jenkins, 58, of 1908 Rocky River Road South died Friday, August 11, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover, with the Rev. Harry Bryant officiating. A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Jenkins was a son of Lottie Beam Jenkins of Clover and the late William Grier Jenkins Jr. He was a partner in Southeastern Mobile Home Movers of Monroe and an Army veteran who served three tours in Vietnam.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are three sons, James David Jenkins Jr. of Catawba, Patrick Jenkins of Rock Hill and Michael Paul Jenkins of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Cathy Connell of York and Sandy Stephenson of Rock Hill; his sister, Diane J. Dover of Clover; two step-daughters, Stephanie Rodgers of Conway and Crystal Taddlock of Monroe; his companion, Debra Taddlock of Monroe; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home and other times at the home of Diane Dover, 1475 Ole Cambridge Dr., Clover.

Maryann Maholick

CLOVER - Mrs. Maryann Bittner Maholick, 63, of 1810 S.C. 55 West died Friday, August 11, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York, with Father Edward McDivett officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Maholick was a daughter of Helen S. Bittner of New York and the late Alexander Bittner. She was a fiber optic technician for Welch-Allyn-Vollpe in New York and attended Divine Saviour Catholic Church.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband Leon M. Maholick Sr. of Clover; four sons, Leon M. Maholick Jr. of New York, Michael Maholick of Clover, Thaddus Maholick of Georgia and Daniel Maholick of Greenville; two daughters, Laura M. Thompson of Arizona and Stephanie Maholick of New York; one brother, Alexander Bittner Jr. of New York; one sister, Josephine B. Lauracella of New York; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Home.

Philip Mahaffey

LANCASTER - Mr. Philip E. Mahaffey, 42, of 1726 Dogwood Lane died Friday, August 11, 2000, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Covenant Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jimmy Fore, Larry Pressley and Dr. Hubert Welch officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Mahaffey was a son of Mary Jo Gilreath Mahaffey and the late Marion E. Mahaffey. He was a retired Liberty Life Insurance Agent and a member of Second Baptist Church. He also was a member of the NLCAA All-American Basketball team and had played basketball for the University of South Carolina at Lancaster and for Erskine College. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball for seven years and recreation basketball for eight years.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Ronda Gainer Mahaffey of Lancaster; his son, Bobby Mahaffey; his daughter, Amanda Mahaffey; and his brother Martin M. Mahaffey of Lancaster.

Kenneth Stegall

MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. Kenneth Lee Stegall, 53, of 8075 Highway 814, formerly of Fort Mill, died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Conway Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Mill. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park in Rock Hill.

A native of Ohio, Mr. Stegall was a son of Janet Stegall and the late Linson Lee Stegall I. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Linson Lee Stegall II of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Janet Lynn Stegall of Wilmington, N.C., Dody Martin of Myrtle Beach, Natalie Stegall of Charlottesville, Va., and Kitty Ellis of San Francisco, Calif.; two brothers, Mark Stegall of Danville, Va., and Gary Stegall of Conway; his sister, Lynn Stegall of Memphis, Tenn.; and one grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Willis

YORK - Mrs. Willie Mae "Ted" Willis, 95, of 11 Northbrook Drive died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center in Rock Hill.

Marshall Bailes Sr.

CLOVER - Mr. Marshall Andrew Bailes Sr., 78, of 865 W. Old Limestone Road died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Paul Ballard and Eddie Usher officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mr. Bailes was a son of the late Samuel Andrew Bailes and Cynthia Ann Bryant. He was was a lifetime member and past trustee of Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a farmer and peach grower before becoming co-owner of Bailes Brothers' Construction Co.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Black Bailes; his son, Marshall Bailes Jr. of Clover; five daughters, Vicki Wyant, Cindy Love and Melanie Neil, all of Clover, Barbara Shillinglaw of York and Bonnie Meche of Fort Mill; two sisters, Jessie Adams of York and Annie Howell of Rock Hill; and 12 grandchildren.

Michael Stowe

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Mr. Michael Terry Stowe, 41, of 315 16th St., died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Virginia.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lindsey-Haymes Family Cemetery, with the Revs. Bill Adams, David Wilson and Jimmy Burks officiating.

A native of Danville, Va., Mr. Stowe worked as a telephone solicitor for The Wheel Chair Veterans Association. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his son, Jonathan Morgan of Rock Hill; and two brothers, Randall Stowe of Yorktown, Va., and Virgil Stowe of Danville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight and other times at the home of Virgil Stowe, 142 Summit Road, Danville.

Max Bowers

LANCASTER - Mr. Max Allen Bowers, 54, of 1715 Starmount Circle died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Craig Butler officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Bowers was a son of Catherine Elizabeth Threatt Bowers and the late Vernon Luther Bowers. He was a member of the First ARP Church, a former member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. A U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, Mr. Bowers was retired from General Tire.

Surviving are his wife, Susan H. Bowers; his son, Max Raymond Bowers of Lancaster; two daughters, Juliet Amber Bowers and Kimberly Rebekah Bowers, both of Lancaster; his brother, Vernon Eugene "Gene" Bowers of Lancaster; his sister, Ann Bowers Maynard of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel.

Mildred Evans

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mildred Steele Evans, 88, formerly of Lancaster, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Dr. Gene Lockaby officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Evans was the daughter of the late Judson Steele and Minnie Morris Steele. She was the widow of Edward B. Cooper and Otis Odett Evans. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, she was retired from Springs Industries and was the retired owner/operator of Kiddie Korner Nursery.

Surviving are her stepson, Fred B. Cooper of Lancaster; her sister, Sara McCoy of Orangeburg; two grandchildren; and her great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Lancaster Council on Aging, 300-A W. Gay St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Irene McIntosh

BERLIN, N.J. "- Mrs. Irene Canady McIntosh, 77, of the 1300 block of India Hook Road, Rock Hill, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, in Virginia Beach, Va., with the Rev. Frank Leonard officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, Va.

A native of Jacksonville, N.C., Mrs. McIntosh was a daughter of the late Owen Canady and Eunice Canady. She was the widow of Donald F. McIntosh. She was a retired operator for Western Union Telegraph Co. and was a member of Ebenezer ARP Church in Rock Hill.

Surviving are three sons, Mark C. McIntosh of Alpharetta, Ga., David P. McIntosh of Rock Hill and Timothy J. McIntosh of Marietta, Ga.; her daughter, Susan E. McIntosh of Atco, N.J.; three sisters, Evelyn Keely and Louise Ross, both of Virginia Beach, and Sarah Nester of Norfolk; her brother, Owen Canady of Simsboro, La.; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Frankie Mefford

CHESTER - Mrs. Frankie Dye Mefford, 89, of 555 Pineview Lakes died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chester ARP Church, with Dr. Dwight Pearson officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Palestine, W.Va., Mrs. Mefford was a daughter of the later George Dye and Elva Thorn Dye. She was the widow of Hammit C. Mefford.

Mrs. Mefford was a retired private duty registered nurse who graduated from Wert County, W.Va., High School and received her nursing degree from St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, W.Va. She was a member of Chester ARP Church.

Surviving are her son, James E. Mefford of The Woodlands, Texas; two daughters, June Lee Kinkead of Lexington, Ky., and Betty Jo Erskine of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Norma Harmon of Charleston, W.Va., and Alma Lee Hughes of Huntington, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.
