HAWTHRONE, Calif. - Mr. Samuel Tyrone Addison, 41, formerly of Chester, died Thursday Aug. 17, 2000, at St. Centinella Hospital in California.

The family will be at the home of his mother, Floree Owens Addison, 878 Elks Road, Chester.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Fred Chappelear

FORT MILL - Mr. Fred Mehlin Chappelear, 76, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Stough Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Grady Faulk officiating. Burial will be at Pineville City Cemetery.

A native of Anderson, Mr. Chappelear was a son of the late Fred Purcell Chappelear and Maudie Holbrooks Chappelear. He was a member of Stough Memorial Baptist Church. He worked 44 years at Cone Mills in Pineville, N.C., and Springs Industries in Fort Mill.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Idell Crump Chappelear; two sons, Wayne Chappelear of Pineville and Jerry Dean Chappelear of Madison, Miss.; two daughters, Libby Joe Bellflower of the home and Betty C. Flynn of Lake Lure, N.C.; his sister, Doris C. Swellings of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel.

Roy Daniel

ROCK HILL - Mr. Roy Daniel of 447 Summit St. died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, with the Rev. C. S. Sanders officiating and the Revs. Otha Smith and Ralph Cunningham assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Whitmire, Mr. Daniel was a son of the late Sam Daniel and Pearl Johnson Daniel. He attended public schools of Chester County and worked for the South Carolina Highway Department. An Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Daniel received the Korean Service medal and two bronze service stars. He received the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Surviving are his son, Lawrence Rambert of Chester; four daughters, Linda Knox of Rock Hill, Luella McCree of Chester, Shirley Land of Charleston and Ivy Daniel of Cleveland, Miss.; his brother, Sam Daniel Jr. of New York; four sisters, Ruth Williams of Rock Hill, Dorothy Daniel of Roanoke, Va., and Dolores Daniel and Pearl Grace Watkins, both of New York; his stepdaughter, Lee Joyce Ingram of Leslie; his companion, Margaret Burris of Rock Hill; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at noon Monday.

Da'Juana Green

CHESTER - Ms. Da'Juana Lyntay Green died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Second Wilson Baptist Church Cemetery off York Road.

Ms. Green was a daughter of Sandra Wilmore and Donte' Green.

Surviving are four brothers, Zerell McClurkin, Tyrell McClurkin, John Wilmore III and Shaquala Johnson, all of Chester; two sisters, Sarah McClurkin and DeQuala Davis, both of Chester; her maternal grandmother, Mary Robinson of Chester; her maternal great-grandmother, Mary Brevard of New Jersey; her paternal grandmother, Margaret Green of Winnsboro; her paternal great-grandmother, Lillian Green of Columbia; and her paternal great-great-grandmother, Louise Code of Winnsboro.

Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester, is in charge.

Betty Jamieson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Betty Ford Jamieson, 64, of 1471 Hands Mill Road died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marvin Greenway officiating. Burial will be at Tirzah ARP Church cemetery.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Jamieson was a daughter of the late Hugh McClain Ford and Faye Nivens Ford. She was an inspector for Frito-Lay Co. and a member of First Baptist Church in Newport.

Surviving are her husband, Russell Grey Jamieson; two sons, Thomas P. Jamieson of Rock Hill and Morgan Montgomery of Clover; four daughters, Mandy Wright, Lisa Parra, Monica George, all of York, and Renee Lowery of Rock Hill; her brother, Eddie Kirk Ford of Sharon; her sister, Rose F. Quinn of Rock Hill; 18 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

James Lyner

SYLACAUGA, Ala. - Mr. James Eddie Lyner, 46, of 502 Avondale Ave. died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Coosa Valley Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Curtis and Son North Chapel, with the Revs. Eddie Forbus and Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Mausoleum.

Surviving are his wife, Karen Lyner; his son, James E. Lyner Jr. of Chester; his stepson, Shannon Patterson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Keri Patterson and Kandy Williams, both of Sylacauga; two brothers, Arthur Lyner Jr. of Georgia and Harold LeRoy Lyner of Sylacauga; three sisters, Sandra Hill, Mary Blanchard and Betty Grimes, all of Sylacauga; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Relay for Life.

Ruth Manus

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ruth Montgomery Manus, 81, of 468 Elm St. died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Allen officiating.

A native of Sumter County, Mrs. Manus was a daughter of the late Robert Alexander Montgomery and Lula Morris Alexander. She was the widow of Harry Manus. Mrs. Manus attended Harvesttime Assembly of God and was a self-employed hairdresser.

Surviving are her sister, France Phillips of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Frances Phillips, 213 Cliff Road, Lancaster.

George Marshall

LANCASTER - Mr. George Ferris Marshall, 86, of 2216 S. Potter Road died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4:30 p.m. today at Rich Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brooks Walker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Marshall was a son of the late Samuel Robert Marshall and Cora Baker Marshall. He was retired from Dupont, and was a mason at Antioch Masonic Lodge No. 399. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Rich Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Beulah Hammond Marshall; two sons, G. Dwight Marshall of Waxhaw, N.C., and Delrey M. Marshall of Lancaster; two daughters, Mary Youman of Yemmessee and Jane Harvey of Hampton; his brother, Sammy Marshall of Lancaster; seven sisters, Kathleen Harper, Myrtle Hagins, Elizabeth Harper, and Robbie White and Sara Griffin, all of Lancaster, Gladys Moore of Aiken and Ida Mae Ellis of Heath Springs; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Rich Hill Baptist Church, Redeem the Land Fund, 1557 E. Doc Garris Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, is in charge.

Philip Watts

IRMO - Mr. Philip Alexander Watts, 38, of 1520 N. Woodstream Road died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Thomas Wilkes and Bill Childs officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Watts was a son of Glenn Richard and Peggy Rowell Watts. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Balentine. He was Past Master of Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge, and was a member of Knights Templar in Columbia. He was a chemical engineer at Carolina Eastman. He graduated from the University of South Carolina.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Laura Horton Watts; his son, Nolan Ryan Watts of Irmo; his daughter, Amanda Lauren Watts of Irmo; and his brother, Richard Alston Watts of Irmo.

The family will receive friends in the church social hall after the service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Annie Arant

CHESTER - Mrs. Annie Schulte Nichols Arant, 76, of 596 McDowell Drive died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Dwight Pearson officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Arant was a daughter of the late Sumpter B. Schulte and Maggie Wrenn Schulte. A member of Chester ARP Church, she was retired from Chester Sportswear. She graduated from Chester High School.

She was a widow of Thomas E. Nichols Sr. and Terance G. Arant.

Surviving are her son, Thomas E. "Nick" Nichols Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; her stepson, W.L. "Buddy" Arant of Kings Mountain, N.C.; her brother, Fred Schulte of Rock Hill; her sister, Virginia Cassells of Chester; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Carter

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elizabeth Reeves Carter, 83, of 1848 Neely's Store Road died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Neely's Creek ARP Church, with the Rev. Bill Flemming officiating. Burial will be at Neely's Creek ARP Church cemetery.

A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Charlton P. Reeves and Lola Moughon Reeves. She was a member of Neely's Creek ARP Church.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Ed Carter; and two brothers, J.P. Reeves and James H. Reeves, both of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Fred Carter, 160 Beechwood Road.

Gary Cudd

LIBERTY HILL - Mr. Gary Wellyn Cudd, 77, of 11 Beaver Lane died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A private entombment service will be Monday at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Covenant Baptist Church.

A native of Spartanburg County, Mr. Cudd was a son of the late James W. Cudd Sr. and Gladys Burgess Cudd. He was retired from Life Insurance Co. of Georgia and was a Mason and a Shriner with Hejaz Shrine Temple. Mr. Cudd served in the U.S. Navy Sea-Bees during World War II and was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Morgan Cudd; his son, Dennis G. Cudd of Lancaster; two daughters, Pat Rutledge of Lancaster and Becky Harris of Rock Hill; three brothers, Walter Cudd, James W. Cudd Jr. and Edward Cudd, all of Spartanburg; his sister, Clara Thrasher of Spartanburg; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster and at other times at the home of his son, Dennis Cudd, 1412 Somerset Drive, Lancaster.

Rosa Kirk

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Rosa Curbeam Kirk, 84, of 318 Friedheim Road died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating and the Revs. May Auston and Clyde Raymond assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Kirk was a daughter of the late Albert Curbeam and Carrie Thompson Curbeam. She was the widow of James Kirk Sr.

She was retired from the Rock Hill school district and attended First Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of Union Hymn Choir, A P & B Society No. 28, Missionary Hymn Choir and White Hill Church Aid Society No. 9.

Surviving are six sons, Elijah Kirk, Cleveland Kirk, James Kirk Jr., Jerry Kirk, Richard Kirk and William J. Kirk, all of Rock Hill; two daughters, Mary Chambers and Carrie L. McMullen, both of Rock Hill; 35 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Tuesday.

Donald Knight Sr.

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Mr. Donald Knight Sr., 74, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of Lawrence, Mr. Knight was a son of the late Lewis Knight and Mable Owen Knight. He attended public schools in Lawrence and worked for Hetzel Enterprises. He joined the Lawrence Fire Department in 1953 and retired as a major in 1983.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Carr Knight; his son, Donald Knight Jr. of Lawrence; his daughter, Della Messinger of Fort Mill; his stepson, Dennis Benjamin of Lawrence; his stepdaughter, Judy Green of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sisters, Frances Dahlem and Ruby Harris, both of Lawrence; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.
