Clarence Ramsey

PAGELAND - Mr. Clarence W. Ramsey, 63, Route 4 Box 366 died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Rehab & Nursing Center of Monroe (N.C.).

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at High Point Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Pageland, Mr. Ramsey was a son of Lucille Mill Jenke of Lancaster and the late Frank Ramsey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a linesman.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, L.J. Ramsey of Monroe and Jack Ramsey of Catawba; and his sister, Jo Ann Griffin of Pageland.

The family will receive visitors at the home of Jo Ann Griffin and after the graveside service.

Sutton Funeral Home is in charge.

Edd Riley

LEXINGTON - Mr. Edd B. Riley, 67, of Lexington, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Gilbert. Burial will be at the church cemetery on Princeville Road.

A native of Saluda, Mr. Riley was a son of the late Jesse Riley and Ola Force Riley. He was retired from the S.C. National Guard and from E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Site. Mr. Riley was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served on the church council.

Surviving are his wife, Myriam Keisler Riley of Lexington; three daughters, Deborah Foust and Amy Graham, both of Lexington, and Terri Reid of Fort Mill; three brothers, Cauthen Riley of Newberry, Dewitt Riley of Batesburg and Kelly Riley of Saluda; four sisters, Lena R. Dawkins of Leesville, Lucy Crouch of Saluda, Sue Mills and Shelby Siebert, both of Prosperity; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Caughman Harman Funeral Homes and Crematory in Lexington.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Philip Watts

IRMO - Mr. Philip Alexander Watts, 38, of 1520 N. Woodstream Road died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Thomas Wilkes and Bill Childs officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Tabernacle United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Watts was a son of Glenn Richard Watts and Peggy Rowell Watts of Lancaster. A member of Salem United Methodist Church in Balentine, Mr. Watts was the Past Master of the Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge, a member of the Knights Templar in Columbia, a chemical engineer for Carolina Eastman Inc. and a graduate of The University of South Carolina.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Laura Horton Watts; his son, Nolan Ryan Watts of Irmo; his daughter, Amanda Lauren Watts of Irmo; and his brother, Richard Alston Watts of Irmo.

The family will receive friends in the church social hall after the funeral.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Ralph Cauthen

KERSHAW - Mr. Ralph Capus Cauthen, 78, of 5462 Baxter Kennington Road died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Eugene L. Feagin officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Cauthen was a son of the late Martin Otis Cauthen and Irene Valentine Mobley Cauthen. A member of Salem United Methodist Church, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in World War II. He was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Robinson Cauthen; his son, Terry Wayne Cauthen of Kershaw; his stepdaughter, Sadie Black-McGee of Lancaster; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 201 S. Main St., Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Samuel Youngblood

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Currence Youngblood Jr., 79, of 330 Plantation Road died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at West End Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Lowery officiating and the Rev. Bill Shytle assisting. Burial will be at Ebenezer ARP Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Youngblood was the son of the late Samuel C. Youngblood and Gertrude Faulkenberry Youngblood. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 111 and the Crescent Shrine Club and was an officer in the Elks Lodge No. 1318.

He retired from the Rock Hill Fire Department after 40 years of service, where he was the chief fire marshal for 28 years.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Youngblood; his son, Max Youngblood of Rock Hill; three daughters, Sammie Hovis, Rosa Neeley and Anna Rodriguez, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Marcille Orr of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home-Northwest Chapel and at other times at the home, 330 Plantation Road.

Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 1727 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Dessie Coates

KERSHAW - Mrs. Dessie Wright Coates, 92, of 7608 Kershaw-Camden Highway died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jimmy Hogsed and Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Coates was a daughter of the late Reese Wright and Rebecca Ann Hinson Wright. She was the widow of Alex Montgomery Coates. Retired from Springs Industries, Mrs. Coates was a member of Second Baptist Church and the mothers' Sunday school class. She was a member of Kershaw Senior Citizens.

Surviving are two daughters, Marcelle C. Sullivan of Lancaster and Mary Ann Truesdale of Heath Springs; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mike and Susan Gandy, 151 Blackmon Circle in Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Carlos Jennings

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Carlos Daniel Jennings, 86, of Charlotte died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Caroline Craig and Dr. Andrew M. Smith officiating.

A native of Kent, Conn., Mr. Jennings was a son of the late Sadie Potter and Raymond W. Jennings. Mr. Jennings was the widower of Grace M. Jennings. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from Robert E. Mason Co. in Charlotte. He volunteered with the American Red Cross, Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church and Sharon Towers. He was an elder emeritus at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church and was a Cub Scout leader and youth baseball coach.

Surviving are his son, C. Daniel Jennings II of Charlotte; his daughter, Susan Elkins Reda of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Cornelius Tharp

ROCK HILL - Mr. Cornelius J. "C.J." Tharp, 73, of 1463 Old Friendship Road died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bass Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. A.L. Hensley officiating.

Born in Pennsylvania, Mr. Tharp was a retired coal miner from M.J. Coal Co. before moving to Rock Hill, where he worked for Wal-Mart's maintenance department. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are his wife, Joan L. Tharp; eight sons, Trinity Tharp of the home, Charles Tharp of Wilmington, N.C., Ottis Tharp of West Palm Beach, Fla., Timothy Tharp of Washington, D.C., Dennis Larue of Akron, Ohio, Ralph Larue of Huntington, W. Va., and Rodney Larue and Timothy Larue, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Wilma Strawser and Annette Lance, both of Oakland, Md., and Lisa Butcher of Fairmont, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Martha Deese

CATAWBA - Mrs. Martha Jean Rainey Deese, 58, of 771 Cedar Valley, Lot 66, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Ditton officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Deese was a daughter of the late Eugene W. Rainey and Mary Tommie Rainey. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church and retired from J.P. Stevens' Industrial Plant where she was a beamer tender.

Surviving are her husband, Roland T. Deese Sr. of Gastonia, N.C.; three sons, Roland E. Deese and Roland T. Deese Jr., both of Gastonia, and James W. Rainey of Catawba; her daughter, Tonda Jean Catledge of Rock Hill; her brother, Richard E. Rainey of Fort Mill; two sisters, Rebecca Ann Craig and Elaine Haden, both of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at the home of her son, James W. Rainey, 771 Cedar Valley, Lot 66, Catawba.

Dontonya Capers

ROCK HILL - Ms. Dontonya "Joy" Blake Capers, 20, of 664 Lige St. died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Eternal Rock Church in Chester, with the Rev. Bernard Morris officiating and the Revs. Blanche Jamerson and Eddie Brown assisting.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Capers was a daughter of Mildred Phyllis Blake McMullen and Larry Brown. She was a member of the Eternal Rock Church, where she served in the adult choir. She attended public schools in Rock Hill. She graduated from Chester High School. She attended Benedict College in Columbia and worked for Amp Inc. of Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Darrell Capers; her son, Emmanuel Darique; four brothers, Carlos Tinell Blake, Royal Blake, Juandrell McMullen and Jarvis Miller; three sisters, Ashley Blake, Chelsea Love and Brittany Crawford; her stepfather, Willie McMullen; and her grandmother, Margaret Blake.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mary Carnes

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Knight Carnes, 94, of 1959 Tradesville Road died Sunday at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Spring Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Greg Towler, Thurman Johnson and Bennie Barwick officiating. The burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Carnes was a daughter of the late Thomas Knight and Nancy Stogner Knight. She was the widow of William Ellison Carnes. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are her grandson and her granddaughter.

CATAWBA - Mrs. Martha Jean Rainey Deese, 58, of 771 Cedar Valley, Lot 66, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Ditton officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Deese was a daughter of the late Eugene W. Rainey and Mary Tommie Rainey. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church and retired from J.P. Stevens' Industrial Plant where she was a beamer tender.

Surviving are her husband, Roland T. Deese Sr. of Gastonia, N.C.; three sons, Roland E. Deese and Roland T. Deese Jr., both of Gastonia, N.C., and James W. YORK - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Doster Jones, 71, of 3871 Allwood Road died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover with the Rev. Phillip Haynes officiating. Burial will be at Canaan United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late John Doster and Macey Martin Doster. She was the widow of Gene Walter Jones.

Surviving are her son, Larry "Buck" Eugene Jones of York; two daughters, Rose Mary Ray of York and Macey Jean Shipton of Sumter; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, Clover.
