Georgia Gantt

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Mrs. Georgia Oveta Roberts Gantt, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital.

The funeral was Friday at Wynnbrook Baptist Church, with Dr. Brad Hicks officiating. Entombment was at Parkhill Cemetery.

A native of Cherokee County, Mrs. Gantt was a daughter of the late Thomas Wheeler and Nancy Wilson Roberts. She was the widow of Esley Ezell Gantt. She was a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church. She was a member of Lillian Harris Sunday school class and Wynnbrook Joyful Servants. She was a member of Womens Missionary Union and was the co-owner of Dee Dee's Children's Shop. She retired from Warrens Kiddie Shop. She was a member of American Business Womens Association.

Surviving are five daughters, Elizabeth Kolarik of Fayetteville, Ga., Betty Wisher of Rock Hill, Doris Petersen of Louisville, Ky., Martha Meeks of Columbus and Mary Pratt of Stockbridge, Ga.; her brother, Edwin Roberts of Shelby, N.C.; her sister, Gertrude Allen of Shelby; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Striffler-Hamby Mortuary is in charge.

Odell Hagins

LANCASTER - Mr. Odell Bennett Hagins, 94, formerly of 400 N. White St. died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home Lancaster Chapel with the Rev. Donald Brown officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Hagins was a son of the late Samuel Ellison Hagins and Pearl Bennett Hagins. He was the widower of Louise Cox Hagins. He retired from L & C Railroad after 40 years service. He was a member of Lions Club, Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53 and First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his son, Odell Bennett "Ben" Hagins Jr. of Seneca; his daughter, Carolyn Montgomery of Rock Hill; his brother, Todd Hagins of Columbia; two sisters, Mary Alice Fickling of Hickory, N.C., and Marion "Sis" Small of Lancaster; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel.

Mamie Yates

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mamie "Lou" Gregory Yates, 77, of 1765 India Hook Road died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Sonshine Village.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with Dr. Jerry Sosebee officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Union, Mrs. Yates was a daughter of the late Noah Gregory and Decie Noland Gregory. She was a charter member of Sylvia Circle Baptist Church. She was a retired bookkeeper for RHP&F with 20 years service. She was a retired dispatcher at Winthrop Security Force.

Surviving are her son, Billy J. Yates Jr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Susan Elizabeth Harding of Harrisburg, Pa.; her brother, Gilbert Gregory of Waynesville, N.C.; four sisters, Jane B. Brock of York, Joyce Edmundson of Myrtle Beach, Helen Osment of Gaffney and Decie Craig of Union; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at the home of her son, 1516 Summit View Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Reba Roof

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Reba R. Howell Roof, 74, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Heritage Health Care Facility.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Randall Odom officiating.

A native of Anderson County, Mrs. Roof was a daughter of the late Thomas Jethro Howell and Connie Estelle Owens Howell. She was the widow of George Richard Roof. She retired from the textile industry.

Surviving are her son, Gene Stone of Iva; two daughters, Kay Anderson of Anderson and Lynn Evette of Greenville; her brother, Wesley Howell of Anderson; three sisters, Sylvia Loftis of Iva and Laverne Whittaker and Tommi Snelgrove, both of Anderson; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Lucille Williams

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Lucille Gregory Williams, 81, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Alterra Clarebridge Assisted Living Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Cleveland Cicero Gregory and Dochia Mothershed Gregory. She was the widow of F. Evan Williams. She was a retired teacher with 35 years service at Lancaster High School. She received her master's of arts in teaching from Winthrop University. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Surviving are her daughter, Tal Celia Owen of Charlotte; two sisters, Maudelle Small and Ruby Clark, both of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, and at the home of her sister, Maudelle Small, 1503 Camp Drive, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Samuel Youngblood Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Currence Youngblood Jr., 79, of 330 Plantation Road died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at West End Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Lowery officiating and the Rev. Bill Shytle assisting. Burial will be at Ebenezer ARP Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Youngblood was the son of the late Samuel C. Youngblood and Gertrude Faulkenberry Youngblood. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 111 and the Crescent Shrine Club. He was an officer in the Elks Lodge No. 1318.

He retired from the Rock Hill Fire Department after 40 years of service, and was the chief fire marshal for 28 years. He was a volunteer at Piedmont Health Care, where he worked the front desk.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Youngblood; his son, Max Youngblood of Rock Hill; three daughters, Sammie Hovis, Rosa Neeley and Anna Rodriguez, all of Rock Hill; his sister, Marcille Orr of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

Essie Stewart

GASTONIA N.C. - Mrs. Essie Mae Wells Stewart, 101, of East Perry St. died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Courtland Terrace.

The funeral was Thursday at First ARP Church, with Dr. Harry T. Schutte officiating. Burial was at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of the Bethaney community in York County, Mrs. Stewart was a daughter of the late John Cicero and Lela Etta Froneberger Wells. She was a life-long member of Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church. She was a member of First ARP Church since 1939. She was active in many ladies' circles and other activities and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her son, Robert C. Stewart of Gastonia; her daughter, Dorothea S. Robinson of Gastonia; three sisters, Edna W. Barry of Kings Mountain, N.C., Vida Lee Stewart of York and Cora W. Long of Florence; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Samuel Beavans

ENFIELD, N.C. - Mr. Samuel Clark Beavans, 78, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Enfield United Methodist Church.

A native of Enfield, Mr. Beavans was a 1943 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy. He was a World War II veteran and the proprietor of Beavans Drug Store in Enfield. He was a member of Enfield United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nina Whitaker Beavans; three daughters, Elizabeth B. Collins of Cedar Grove, and Anna B. Dougherty and Martha B. Postma, both of Greenville, N.C.; two sons, Samuel Clark Beavans Jr. of Union, S.C., and John W. Beavans of Raleigh; two sisters, Elizabeth Sheppard of Tarboro and Annette Hardison of Rocky Mount; and 11 grandchildren.

Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home is in charge.

Dontonya Capers

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dontonya Blake "Joy" Capers, 19, of 664 Lige St. died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Eternal Rock Church in Chester, with the Rev. Bernard Morris officiating and the Revs. Blanche Jamerson and Eddie Brown assisting.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Capers was a daughter of Mildred Phyllis Blake McMullen and Larry Brown. She was a member of the Eternal Rock Church, where she served in the adult choir. She attended public schools in Rock Hill. She graduated from Chester High School. She attended Benedict College in Columbia and worked for Amp Inc. of Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Darrell Capers; her son, Emmanuel Darique; four brothers, Carlos Tinell Blake, Royal Blake, Juandrell McMullen and Jarvis Miller; three sisters, Ashley Blake, Chelsea Love and Brittany Crawford; her stepfather, Willie McMullen; her grandmother, Margaret Blake; her godmother who raised her, Tammy Heath of Rock Hill and her god-grandparents who raised her, Thomas and Juanater Minor of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mary Craton

FORT MILL - Mrs. Mary Frances Neighbors Craton, 76, of 1217 Camp Cox Circle died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Center Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Waxhaw, N.C., with the Rev. Jason E. Hurt officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill.

A native of Lafayette, Ga., Mrs. Craton was a daughter of the late Julius Warren Neighbors and Eunice Gentry Neighbors. She was a snack bar manager at Centennial Bowling Lanes. She was a member of Center Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Julius S. Craton of Charlotte, John David Craton and Timothy Joel Craton Sr., both of Fort Mill, and Jeffrey Charles Craton of West Pelzer; two daughters, Carolyn Puckett of Fort Mill and Marianne Hensley of Indian Land; her sister, Eunice Oakley of Grove, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bass Funeral Home.

Arthur Graham

CHESTER - Mr. Arthur "Rat" Graham, 80, of Chester County Nur-sing Center, formerly of 108 Edward St., died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Mount Prospect Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Z. Bailey officiating and the Revs. George Sims and W.M. Bryson assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Graham retired from City Street Metal Co. and Denton Funeral Home. He was a member of Mount Prospect Baptist Church. He attended grade school in Chester County.

Surviving are his fiancee, Betty Jo Foster of the home; five sons, Audrey Graham Jr., Anthony Foster, Tommy Foster and Henry Sykes, all of Chester and William Sykes of Charlotte; seven daughters, Betty Sykes, Loretta Heath, Stephanie Foster, Natonya Graham, Cynthia Foster and Vivian Wilson, all of Chester, and Betty Jean Lewis of Charlotte; four brothers, Hardin Graham, John Rice, Walker Carter, all of Chester, and Major Carter of Winnsboro; three sisters, Lizzie Rice and Ilena Bailey, both of Chester, and Mary Frances Hicklin of Baltimore; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will lie in state at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

William Walker

ROCK HILL - Mr. William "Bill" Adrian Walker, 72, of 4410 Winrock Lane died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Walker was a son of the late William Woodfin and Martha Effrat Woodfin. He was of the Catholic faith and attended The Oratory. He was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Walker; his son, Scott W. Walker of Charlotte; his daughter, Laurie W. Bono of Charlotte; his stepdaughter, Connie Bauman of Rock Hill; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at a later date.

Carrie Kelly

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, N.C. - Mrs. Carrie Ford Kelly, 94, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Weeping Willow Baptist Church.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Kelly was a daughter of the late Thomas Ford and Janie McCullough. She was the widow of Thomas Kelly Sr. She attended Weeping Mary Baptist Church. She attended schools in Fairfield County.

Surviving are four daughters, Beatrice Irby of Winnsboro, S.C., Mary K. Smith of Blackstock, S.C., Georgia Hagwood of Great Falls, S.C., and Carrie K. Talford of Charlotte; five sons, Charlie Kelly of Charlotte, Willie Kelly of Great Falls and Phillip Kelly, Samuel Kelly and Ben Kelly, all of Blackstock; her sister, Pleasants Ford of Columbia, S.C.; her brother, Samuel Ford of Great Falls; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Glover Funeral Home in Winnsboro is in charge.

Sarah Harmon

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sarah Neely Harmon, 80, of 1569 Hunt Club Court died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Patti Griffith Fallaw officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Harmon was a daughter of the late Robert Howard Neely and Minnie Branche Neely. She was the widow of Judson Mendal Harmon Sr. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was a member of Friendship Bible Class, the joy choir and church quilting group.

Surviving are her son, J. David Harmon of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home of David Harmon, 2205 Terrell Place, Rock Hill.
