William White Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. William C. White Sr., 79, of 258 E. White St. died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Mark T. Verdery officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. prior to the church service.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. White was a son of the late Hiram Hutchison White Sr. and Martha Jane Adams White. Mr. White was a retired land surveyor. He was a charter member of South Carolina Land Surveyors Association and a member of the Tri-County Land Surveyors Association. He received his civil engineering degree from Clemson University in 1942. A former member of the Rock Hill Kiwanis Club, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder and sang in the choir.

Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Nickles White; his two sons, William C. "Bill" White Jr. of Rock Hill and George A. White of Greensboro, N.C.; his daughter, Martha W. Keen of Rock Hill; his bother, Hiram H. White Jr. of Cheraw; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church building fund, 234 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to a charity of one's choice.

Kathryn Culp

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Kathryn Revels Lowther Culp, 80, of 1147 Ebenezer Road died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with Dr. William C. Pender officiating. Entombment will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Culp was a daughter of the late Raymond Virgel Revels and Sue Wray Revels. She was the widow of John Wesley Lowther Jr. She was owner and operator of Lowther Trucking Co.

She attended Winthrop Training School and graduated from Fassifern School in Hendersonville, N.C. She was a charter member of Oakland Baptist Church and was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was a member and past president of Rock Hill Women's Club and Beta Sigma Phi, a service-civic educational sorority.

Surviving are her husband, William L. "Bill" Culp Sr. of Rock Hill; three stepsons, John W. Lowther III of North Topsail Beach, N.C., and Ray V. Revels Jr. and Dr. William L. Culp Jr., both of Rock Hill; two stepdaughters, Gwendolyn Lowther Boulware of Sapphire, N.C., and Dorothy Culp Farmer of Greenville; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Alberta Ervin

CHESTER - Mrs. Alberta Stringfellow Ervin, 89, of 567 Darby Road died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gethsemane Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.D. Pratt officiating and the Rev. E.E. Vance assisting.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Ervin was the widow of Curlee Ervin. She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and the A.P.&B. Society Lodge No. 1. She attended Chester County public schools.

Surviving are three sons, Sylvester Gray of Chester, Ezell Ervin of Cleveland and Hubbard L. Ervin of Zion, Ill.; three daughters, Leila Sanders of Charlotte, and Clara Rhinehart and Gazella Hardin, both of Chester; 36 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 575 and 579 Darby Road. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Geneva McDaniel

CHESTER - Mrs. Geneva McDaniel of 620 Angel Road died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Aiken Region Medical Center in Aiken.

The family will receive friends at the home of Eddie and Helen Hemphill, 116 Henry Woods Drive.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Theodore Hefney Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Theodore Hefney Sr. of 439 Friedheim Road died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Lesslie, with the Rev. Larry L. Robertson officiating and the Revs. Z.B. Wells, W.B. White and Leroy Ellison assisting.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hefney was a son of the late Joe and Isabelle Williams Hefney. He attended public schools of York County. He retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church, where he served on the brotherhood, usher board, choir No. 1 and Four Cross 109. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Caldwell Hefney; two sons, Theodore "Ted" Hefney Jr. of Rock Hill and John Ivey Witherspoon of Charlotte; his daughter, Malinda "Faye" Gilmore of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lottie Hefney and Beatrice Hefney, both of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Marion Harris

ST. ALBANS, N.Y. - Mr. Marion "Snook" Harris, of 166-03, 120th Ave. died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at North Shore University Hospital in Forest Hills, N.Y.

The funeral with Masonic rites will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Russ Temple, 119-48 Supthin Blvd. The Eulogy will be at 8 p.m. at the temple. Burial will be Friday at Long Island International Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Russ Temple.

Gilmore's Funeral Home, 191-02 Linden Blvd., St. Albans, N.Y., is in charge.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Frances Johnson

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mrs. Frances Maie Rich Johnson, 84, of 1923 Woodside Drive died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Archdale Chapel, with the Rev. Bruce Johnson officiating. Internment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, N.C., Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late James Henry Rich and Ola Tressie Blackburn Rich. She was the widow of Walter Linville Johnson. She was a retired homemaker and was a member of Christ Community Church of the Christian Missionary Alliance.

Surviving are her daughter, Gayle Woods of Greensboro; her son, Larry Roger Johnson of Fort Lawn; her sister, Millicent Williams of Greensboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service.

Alice Paull

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alice Miller Paull, 69, formerly of Columbia, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, in Columbia.

A native of Sandusky County, Ohio, Mrs. Paull was a daughter of the late John Lester Miller and Audra Kigor Gibson. She was the widow of John Walter Paull.

Surviving are two sons, Ron Paull of Columbia and John Paull of Gastonia, N.C.; her daughter, Becki Cannon of Columbia; her brother, Ron Miller of Fremont, Ohio; her sister, Betty Rogers of Clyde, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Alexander Ratchford

ROCK HILL - Mr. Alexander Ratchford, 85, of Rock Hill died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Prospect Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Montgomery officiating and the Rev. Selena Erby delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Ratchford was a son of the late William Robert Ratchford and Ella Ratchford. He attended York County public schools and was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was employed at Arcade Cotton Mills as a boiler room attendant and later at the Rock Hill school district.

Surviving are four daughters, Hatie Mae Carter of Charlotte, Vivian Robinson and Odessa R. Poage, both of Rock Hill, and Deloris Ratchford of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren whom he reared, Charmya Robinson and Thomas White; eight other grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Vivian Robinson, 853 Finley Court.

Morris Roof

AIKEN - Mr. Morris Lee Roof, 77, of 111 Gyles Road died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at the VA Medical Center, Uptown Division.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Millbrook Baptist Church, with the Dr. W. James Rivers officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester, Mr. Roof was a son of the late George Frazier Roof and Clara Brown Roof. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a retired quality control manager at Reigel Textiles. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and was a member of the Sunday school department and the Pastor's Class.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Keasler Roof of Aiken; his son, Lee Roof of Raleigh, N.C.; his brother, Fred Roof of Chester; and two grandchildren.

Rivers Funeral Home is in charge.

Demildred Thompson

CATAWBA - Mrs. Demildred Brown Thompson, 46, of 5534 Howze Road, Landsford community, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.W. Thompson officiating and Dr. Marian Crawford assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of Willie Brown and Etta Brown, both of Catawba. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and was a former member of Mount Carmel F.B.H. She attended public schools of Chester County. She worked for Interim Health Care Service of Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Thompson; three sons, Timothy McCrorey of New Britain, Conn., Frederick Thompson of Lancaster and Robert Thompson of Rock Hill; her brother, Howard Brown of Rock Hill; her sister, Pearlie Able of Rock Hill; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from

1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

The body will lie in state at the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Anna Truesdale

PAWLEYS ISLAND - Mrs. Anna Lee Shaw Truesdale, 87, of 92 Lakeshore Drive, Pawleys Island, formerly of Kershaw, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at National Health Care Center in Garden City.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home in Kershaw, with the Revs. Bryant D. Fersner Jr. and Donald Coppedge of Kershaw officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Truesdale was a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Mary Ann "Molly" Horton Shaw. She was the widow of Foster Truesdale Sr. She was co-owner and operator of Fosters Restaurant in Kershaw from 1942 to 1974. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kershaw.

Surviving are her son, C. Foster Truesdale Jr. of Kershaw; two daughters, Libby Gardner of Pawleys Island and Robbie Taylor of Kershaw; her sister, Edrid S. Gambrell of Blackstock; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel.

Louise Whisonant

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Louise Horton Whisonant, 75, of 127 Murrah Drive died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Catawba Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Whisonant was a daughter of the late Leonard Massey Horton and Martha Dunn Horton. She was the widow of William H. "Bill" Whisonant.

Mrs. Whisonant retired from Aragon Mills after 20 years and had also worked at Lance Inc., Rock Hill Printing & Finishing and the Arcade Mill. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Randy H. Whisonant of Rock Hill; her brother, Ernest Horton of Rock Hill; her sister, Loraine Horton Barnette of Norcross, Ga.; two stepsisters, Lib Hinson and Jenny Day, both of Great Falls; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son, 1421 Yorkdale Drive, Rock Hill.
