Ney Hallman

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Ney Hallman, 77, of 3416 Lesslie Highway died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Dr. Robert J. Robinson and Dr. Roy Beckham officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Hallman was a son of the late Ira Blakely Hallman and Eunice Steele Hallman. He was a member of First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he was a former deacon and elder. He was awarded the Deacon Service Award in 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 34. He was an electrician with Hallman Brothers and served in World War II with the Navy Seabees.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn McQueen Hallman; two sons, Richard Hallman of York and Robert Hallman of Edgemoor; his daughter, Debra Turner of Rock Hill; two brothers, Ray Hallman and Calvin Hallman, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Mary Weisz of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 201 E. White St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Floyd Caldwell

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Floyd Caldwell, 53, of 534 Arrowwood Road, Pearidge Community, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Great Falls, with the Rev. J. A. McFarlan officiating and Bishop S. Campbell assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Campbell was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He attended public school in Great Falls. He worked for Tyson's Farm in Monroe, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Sue Barber Caldwell; three sons, Lloyd Caldwell and Bryant Caldwell, both of Chester, and William Caldwell of Monroe; his daughter, Debra Caldwell of Rome, N.Y.; three brothers, Larry Caldwell and Bobby Caldwell, both of Great Falls, and Otis Caldwell of Chester, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Alice Fee of Great Falls and Roszina Campbell of Chester, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 7 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls. The family will receive friends at home.

Mrs. Florence Beacham Allgood

CHESTER - Mrs. Florence Beacham Allgood, 78, of 737 Spirit Circle died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Wright's Home for Funerals, with the Rev. Curtis Marshal officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Clinton, Mrs. Allgood was a daughter of the late Fisher Carson Beacham and Lula Roberts Beacham. She was the widow of James Mason Allgood. She was a member of Orr's Baptist Church. She graduated from Chester High School, and was a World War II veteran. She served in the first group of women trained as nurses in the Women's Army Air Corp and was primarily stationed at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are her daughter, Emma Sue Clark of Chester; her brother, Tommy Beacham of Chester; and her sister, Catherine Wilkes of Chester.

Wright's Home for Funerals is in charge.

Joyce Dorsett

STANFIELD, N.C. - Mrs. Joyce Merle Chiswell Dorsett, 83, of 24611 - 1 Ridgecrest Road, formerly of Rock Hill, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Ronald Russell officiating.

A native of Battram, England, Mrs. Dorsett was a daughter of the late Florence Ashby Chiswell and George Chiswell. She was the widow of Jack "NMN" Dorsett. She was a homemaker and was a World War II veteran of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. She was a radio guidance operator for aircraft during World War II.

Surviving are her son, Rowell Dorsett of Stanfield, N.C.; her daughter, Mary Jo Brown of Charlotte; three grandchildren; and her great - grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at 24611 - 1 Ridgecrest Road, Stanfield, N.C.

Helen Franklin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Helen Graham Franklin of 513 Friedheim Road died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Thomas Barber officiating and the Revs. W.B. White, Paul Long and Richard Graham assisting.

A native of York County, Mrs. Franklin was a daughter of the late Lonnie E. Graham and Helen E. Graham. She graduated from Emmett Scott High School in 1955. She was a member of Daughters of Light, Order of the Eastern Stars, Hillard McMoore Assembly, Order of the Golden Circle and Menzel Court Daughters of Isis.

Surviving are her husband, George Franklin Jr.; her daughter, Brenda Ladene of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Margurite Fisher of Rock Hill and Bettye Davis of Mesa, Ariz.

The body will be taken to the church at noon today.

Robinson Funeral home is in charge.

Evelyn Gainer

LANCASTER - Mrs. Evelyn McMurray Gainer, 87, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Harold Owens and the Rev. Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will be private at New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Heath Springs, Mrs. Gainer was a daughter of the late John McMurray and Carron McMurray. She was the widow of John Roddey Gainer. She was a homemaker and was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Charlene Canterbury of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster.

Alee Hardin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alee Edwards Hardin of 1651 Memorial Drive died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Beverly Health Care in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Greater Foundation AME Church, with the Rev. Leroy McCrae officiating and Sister Linda Hill and Brother Robert Brice assisting. Burial will be at Greater Foundation AME Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Hardin was a daughter of the late Mose Edwards and Maggie Roseborough Edwards. She was the widow of Willie Hardin. She was a member of Greater Foundation AME Zion Church, where she was a choir leader, a member of the usher board, deaconess board. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She attended the schools of Chester County.

Surviving are two sisters, Viola Witherspoon of Flushing, N.Y., and Dora Wallace of Denver.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

Grace Julian

CAMDEN - Mrs. Grace Elizabeth "Erby" Jackson Julian, 76, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Frank Griffith and Michael Turner officiating.

A native of Camden, Mrs. Julian was a daughter of the late William Leslie Jackson and Janie G. Jackson Stokes. She was the wife of retired Air Force Major Maxwell M. Julian. She retired from Kershaw County schools. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Maxwell Julian of Camden; two sons, Mark Julian of Columbia and Dave Julian of Camden; her daughter, Janie Julian of Rock Hill; two brothers, W.L. Jackson and Joseph C. Jackson, both of Camden; her sister, Dally Shannon of East Greenwich, R.I.; and four grandchildren.

Kornegay Funeral Home of Camden is in charge.

Geneva McDaniel

CHESTER - Mrs. Geneva McDaniel, 98, of 620 Angel Road died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Sandy River Baptist Church, with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating and the Revs. Sandy Drayton, Marvin Hughes, Paul McDaniel and Prophet J.D. Hughes Jr. assisting. The eulogy will be conducted by Evangelist Cynthia Hughes. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. McDaniel was a daughter of the late Wade McDaniel and Rosie Kennedy McDaniel. She was a member of Sandy River Baptist Church, and was a former member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and Cedar Rock Baptist Church. She attended The Eternal Rock Church. She was a member of the hymn choir and A.P.&B. Society No. 14, and C.B.&A. society of the Sandy River Baptist Church. She attended public schools in Chester County. She worked for the Chester County school district.

Surviving are her daughter, Lelia Hughes of Chester; her son, Isiah McDaniel of Philadelphia; 17 grandchildren; 47 great - grandchildren; and 21 great - great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Eddie and Helen Hemphill, 116 Henry Wood Drive, Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester.

C. Henry Olson

ROCK HILL - Mr. C. Henry Olson, 96, of Rock Hill, formerly of Newtown, Shelton and Bridgeport, Conn., died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Westminster Health Center.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Connecticut.

A native of Bridgeport, Mr. Olson was the widower of Augusta McGowan Olson. He was a retired owner of Motor Parts and Service Company of Bridgeport, and was the founder of Black Rock Senior Citizens Group of Bridgeport. He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church of 2370 W. Main St, Rock Hill. He graduated from New York University.

Surviving are his son, John Olson of Lake Wylie; his daughter, Joan Bowers of Newtown; his brother, Frank Olson of Easton, Conn.; his sister, Ethel Cook of Stratford, Conn.; six grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.

Verna Peterson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Verna W. Peterson, 78, of Palatka, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be announced later.

A native of Little Valley, N.Y., Mrs. Peterson was a daughter of the late John Davis and Marietta Thayer Davis. She was the widow of Clyde A. Peterson. She owned Verna's Beauty Shoppe in Little Valley, N.Y., where she retired. She was a member of Little Valley Congregational Church, and was a volunteer at Palatka Hospital in Palatka.

Surviving are her son, Dale Peterson of East Aurora, N.Y.; three daughters, Judith Beebe of Marilla, N.Y., Patsy Wisenewski of Palatka, and Dawn Peterson of Rock Hill; two sisters, Irene Watz of Springville, N.Y. and Marjorie Tindell of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Library of Little Valley, NY, 110 Rockcity St., Little Valley, NY 14755.

Martin Roberts

LANCASTER - Mr. Martin N. Roberts, 79, of 201 Chesterfield Ave. died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Revs. Dale Roach and Jeff Weyers officiating.

A native of Darlington County, Mr. Roberts was a son of the late Martin Ashley Roberts and Lela Gibson Roberts. He retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Surviving are his daughter, Vickie Griffin of Lancaster; his brother, James Huey Roberts of Florida; three sisters, Pauline Roberts Cooper and Evelyn Roberts Goude, both of Lancaster and Helen Roberts Evans of Winnsboro; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the home of his daughter, Vickie Griffin, 3021 University Drive, Lancaster.
