Vivian “Mom” Collins
September 26, 2004

Vivian “Mom” Collins, 93, 1115 Main Street, Silverstreet, widow of Elia Collins, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Collins was born on March 26,1911 in Hagerstown, IN, a daughter of the late Ben Woods and Goldie Logan. She was a member of the Silverstreet Lutheran Church, the Silverstreet Ruritan Club and the FCL Club.
Mrs. Collins is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret Burko of Silverstreet, Shirley Moyser of Sun Valley, AZ, and Iona and William Cromis of Lytle Creek, CA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Vera Dale of Silverstreet and Warren and Sharon Dale of Sumas, WA; 12grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald Dale.
Funeral services for Vivian “Mom” Collins will be conducted at 4:00 P. M. Tuesday at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Floyd Sides and the Rev. Robert McCollum. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P. M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Dale, 216 Abrams Street, Silverstreet, SC.
Active pallbearers will be John Dale, Bill Dale, Justin Pitts, Levi Brown, David Moyser, and Perry Dale.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Silverstreet Ruritan Club.

Margaret P. Stroud
September 19, 2004

Margaret P. “Jimmie” Stroud, 85, formerly of Fair Ave., Newberry, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004 at Generation of Monetta.
Miss Stroud was born on Nov. 18, 1918 in Chester, a daughter of the late Robert L. and Wilma Walker Stroud. She was a retired employee of the Oakland Plant, Kendall Co.
Miss. Stroud is survived her sister, Julia S. Hamlett of Hendersonville, TN.
A Memorial service will be held later.

Lewis D. Martin
September 15, 2004

Lewis D. Martin, 91, formerly of 2964 Trinity Church Road, Newberry, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at White Oak Manor.
Mr. Martin was born on September 3, 1913 in Newberry County, a son of the late Noah J. and Sally Clyde Hendrix Martin. He was an U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a retired farmer and lumberman. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served in all capacities.
Mr. Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Frances Pitts Martin of the home; a daughter, Barbara M. Rogers of Newberry; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne D. and Lilly Martin of Ninety-Six, two sisters, Alice Aiken of Macon GA and Bernice Wright of Red Bank; three grandchildren, Kelly Morris, Charles Rogers, and Dave Martin; and a great-grandson, Dillon Morris.
Funeral services for Lewis D. Martin will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A. M. at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hugh Bickley and the Rev. Harry Wright. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 2964 Trinity Church Road, Newberry.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1160 Trinity Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Rogers, Dave Martin, Watkins Martin, Martin Senn, Charles Wright, and Tommy Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Administration Board of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Essie Felker Wicker
September 09, 2004

Essie Felker Wicker, 88, formerly of 383 Wicker Road, Pomaria, widow of Willie Earl Wicker, died Thursday, September 09, 2004 at Springfield Place.
Mrs. Wicker was born on October 29, 1915 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late J. Arthur and Annie Schwartz Felker. She was a retired nurse’s assistant at Whitten Village and she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Wicker is survived by a son, Kenny Wicker of Newberry; a daughter-in-law, Linda Knight of Newberry; a brother, Ernest Felker of Newberry; three grandchildren, Alisha Davenport, Anita Wilbanks, and Alison Boland; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Essie Felker Wicker will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 311 Branson Mills, Rd., Randleman NC 27317.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Wilbanks, Eric Davenport, Brian Boland, Cody Price, Gary Monie, Carold Wicker, and Clay McConnell.

Ruby Lee Livingston Turner
September 7, 2004

Ruby Lee Livingston Turner, 92, formerly of 1241 Hunt St., Newberry, widow of Howard F. Turner, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at J.F. Hawkins Healthcare.
Mrs. Turner was born on February 7, 1912 in Newberry, a daughter of the late E.H. and Pearl Halfacre Livingston. She was a graduate of Newberry College and a member of Clayton Memorial Unitarian Church. She was a school teacher at Bush River High School for several years. She worked with Sears for 12 years and was the bookkeeper for Turner’s Jewelers of Newberry, Inc. until her retirement.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Linda Turner of Newberry; grandchildren and spouses, Chip and Cari Turner of Ninety Six and Michael Turner and Brandon and Rachael Turner all of Newberry; great grandchildren, Justin Turner and Shelby Turner both of Ninety-Six and Amber Turner of Newberry; and a niece, Phyllis Boozer of Newberry. .
Funeral services for Ruby Lee Turner will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. John Miller. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial gardens.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Turner, 1408 Chapman Dr., Newberry SC 29108.

Robert G. “Bob” Lister, Sr
September 5, 2004

Robert G. “Bob” Lister, Sr., 82, affectionately know as “Pop”, of 1519 Mower Street, Newberry, widower of Sara Cothran Lister, died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at his residence. .
Mr. Lister was born on March 4, 1922 in Greenville County, a son of the late Hugh F. and Margaret Freeman Lister. He was an Army Air Corp. veteran of WW II, having served as a B29 pilot during the war.
He was the owner of Bob Lister State Farm Insurance Agency for 34 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and church treasurer and was a former member of the Sanctuary and Joy Choirs. He was a former member and Past President of the Newberry Civitan Club. He was a Past President of the Newberry High School Band Parents Association, a former assistant coach with Newberry Youth Baseball, and was a former member of the Smiling Swingers Square Dancers. He also was a former Hospice volunteer and helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels.
Mr. Lister is survived by his daughter Sally K. Lister of Lexington; two sons, R. Glenn Lister, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and Hugh Lister of Newberry; one sister, Vera L. Applegate of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Alan Abrams, Robert Abrams, Amy Ballentine, Perryn Freeman, Robert G. Lister, III, Ryan Lister, Jenni Lister, Ryn Lister, and Michael Lister; and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Hugh F. Lister, Jr.
Funeral services for Robert G. “Bob” Lister, Sr. will be conducted 3:00 P.M.Wednesday, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. Tuesday at Mr. Lister’s residence, 1519 Mower Street, Newberry and viewing will also be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1020 Boundary St., Newberry SC 29108 or to Meals-on-Wheels, c/o Newberry County Council on Aging, 1300 Hunt St., Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Rob Lister, Ryan Lister, Michael Lister, Jesse Freeman, Charlie Ballentine, and Walter Jacobs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Lister’s former staff and current and former State Farm Associates and the members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Beatrice Kennerley Davis
September 1, 2004

Beatrice “Bea” Kennerley Davis, 86, formerly of 2217 Henry Ave, Newberry, wife of James Henry Davis, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at National Healthcare of Laurens.
Mrs. Davis was born on September 16, 1917, in the Mt. Bethel Garmany Community of Newberry County, a daughter of the late Francis John and Ethel Harriet Lietzsey Kennerley. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Davis and Ralph Edgar Jones, Jr., of Mauldin, Diane Davis and Boyd “Buck” Webber of Lake Murray, and Linda Davis Byrd and fiance, James G. Hudson of Taylors; a son and daughter-in-law; James Kennerley “Ken” Davis and Amelia Monts Davis of Lancaster; a sister, Frances K. Smith of Springfield; a brother, Robert B. “Bob” Kennerley of Newberry; eleven grandchildren, Jerome Jones, Lee Shinn, Lori Anne McDonald, Michael Shinn, Sharon Cunningham, James Shinn, Melanie Shinn, Melinda Edwards, Susan Davis, Paige Byrd, and Andy Davis; and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Catherine Kennerley
Funeral services for Beatrice Kennerley Davis will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. John Miller. Entombment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 P. M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108 or the charity of one’s choice.
Pallbearers will be James K. “Ken” Davis and grandsons.
