Marcus Baxley

CHESTER - Mr. Marcus LaWayne Baxley, 29, of 779 Lowrys Hwy. died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Harvest Time Assembly Tabernacle of Love on Pinckney St., with the Rev. David Black officiating.

A native of Columbus, Ga., Mr. Baxley was a son of Michell L. Baxley and Margaruite Lena Shaw Baxley, both of Chester. He worked for West Marine Products of Rock Hill and Liberty 321 Auctions of Chester. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1876 of Phoenix City, Ala., since 1991. He graduated from York Technical College, with three degrees in industrial maintenance technology. He worked with computers.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Ricky Baxley of Columbus.; his sister, Vickie Dykes of Phoenix City, Ala.; and his maternal grandmother, Lucile L. Shaw of Columbus.

Willie Brown

WINNSBORO - Mr. Willie "Luck" Brown, 93, of 5558 Camp Welfare Road died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Winnsboro, with the Rev. D. H. Sturdivant officiating and the Rev. Boyce assisting.

Burial will be at Camp Welfare AME Zion Church cemetery in Winnsboro.

The body will be placed in church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

A native of Winnsboro, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Daniel Brown and Mary Stevenson of Winnsboro. He was the widower of Dessie Maloney Brown. He attended schools in Fairfield County. He was a member of Camp Welfare AME Zion Church, where he served on the trustee board. He retired from Mitford Elementary School, where he served as janitor and school bus driver. He was a retired member of the State Farmers Home Bureau, and was a member of the NAACP.

Surviving are three sons, John Henry Brown of Denver, Robert Lee Brown of Revere Buck, Fla., and Laurence Brown of Suitland, Md.; two daughters, Dessie Pearson of Forest Hills, Md., and Maggie B. Dewese of Winnsboro; his granddaughter, Pat D. Page of Winnsboro; 15 other grandchildren; 23 great - grandchildren; and three great - great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Thomas Kendrick Jr.

SPARTANBURG - Thomas Benjamin Kendrick Jr., 77, of 217 Aspenwood Drive died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

The cryptside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with Dr. Todd B. Jones officiating.

A native of Spartanburg, Mr. Kendrick was a son of the late Thomas Benjamin Kendrick Sr. and Hattie Mae Stroup Kendrick. He graduated from Clemson University, and was a retired architect from Lockwood Green, serving in the Spartanburg and Atlanta offices. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. He was an Air Force World War II veteran. He was a member emeritus of American Institute of Architects.

Surviving are his brother, John Kendrick of Toccoa, Ga.; and two sisters, Ruth Duncan of Sharon and Ann Montgomery of Fernandina Beach, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association, Piedmont Region, 84 Villa Road, B - 2, Greenville, SC 29615

Blanche Shelton

BALTIMORE - Mrs. Blanche Simpson Shelton died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Stella Maris Hospice.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pennsylvania Avenue AME Zion Church, with Dr. Dennis V. Proctor Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Arbutus Memorial Park, 1101 Sulphur Spring Road.

Mrs. Shelton was a daughter of the late Curtis Simpson and Cattie Simpson. She was a member of Old Zion AME Zion Church. She was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the Gospel Chorus II, the Nurses Unit and the Sisterhood Ministry. She graduated as valedictorian from Finley High School in 1935. She helped revive and later became chairwoman of the Life Members Council at Pennsylvania Ave. AME Zion Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol Shelton Miller; her son, Timothy Simpson Shelton Sr.; two sisters, Sallie Simpson and Estelle McCollough; and four grandsons.

Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road in Chester is in charge of local arrangements.

Lucile Shivers

CHESTER - Mrs. Lucile Isom Shivers, 79, of 928 Rhinehart Road died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Ptatt officiating, and Revs. McKinley Woods and E.E. Vance assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Shivers was a daughter of the late John Isom and Sallie Walker Isom. She was the widow of Nathan Woods. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, missionary, and mother of the usher board. She was a member of A.P.&B Society No. 1 and CB&A Society No. 7. She attended public schools of Chester County. She attended Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Nathaniel Shivers, Roger Shivers and James "J.C." Shivers, all of Chester, and Sammie Shivers of New York; four daughters, Dorothy Tolden of Brooklyn, N. Y., Delois Shivers and Patricia Kennedy, both of Chester, and Shirley Sanders of Rock Hill; her stepson, William Chisholm of New York; 26 grandchildren; and 10 great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery Street., Chester, SC.

The body will be carried to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Jimmy Walker

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. Jimmy Walker, 69, of 612 North York Street died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Martin's Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Medsen officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge.

A native of Charlotte, Mr. Walker was a son of the late Osie Walker and Grethe Davis Walker of Charlotte. He worked at the Ship Yard in Baltimore and attended public school in Pineville, N.C. He attended Big Pineville AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his wife, Georgia Walker of Baltimore; three sons, Bruce Irving Walker and Jimmie Walker, both of Baltimore and Mr. Reid of Charlotte; two daughters, Lillie Kate Walker and Willie Lean Johnson of Baltimore; two sisters, Annie Thomas of Clover and Mae Hailey Williams of Chester; four brothers, Calvin Walker of Clover, Clyde Sanders of Fort Mill, Willie James Walker of Bridgeport, Conn. and Edmond Walker of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren.

Martin's Funeral Home is in charge.

Katherine Adams

ROCK HILL - Miss Katherine Rebecca Adams, 92, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Ebenezer Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Johns E.V. Lutheran Cemetery in Walhalla, with the Rev. Frank A. Kants officiating.

A native of Walhalla, Miss Adams was a daughter of the late Sidney Adams and Katharine Anna Bieman. She was retired from Winthrop University, where she taught for 25 years. She held bachelor's and master's degrees from Winthrop and a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She studied at Duke University, New York University and American Conservatory at Fontainebleau, France. She was a lifetime member and past president of the Rock Hill Music Club. She served for three years in the Navy during World War II and remained in the Navy Reserves after retiring as a lieutenant commander. She was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are several cousins, including Mr. and Mrs. Jennings Neely and Marian Smoak, all of Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Evelyn Bushe

RANKIN, Ill. - Mrs. Evelyn L. Bushue, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Provena United Samaritan's Medical Center in Danville, Ill.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rankin, with the Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial will be at Rankin Union Cemetery.

A native of Mason, Ill., Mrs. Bushue was a daughter of Chester Hinkle and Mabel Scruggs. She was the widow of Ernest Bushue of Edgewood, Ill. A member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rankin, she was a member and president of the Altar & Rosary Society. She sang in the church choir and was Rankin's first PTA president.

Surviving are three sons, Donald Bushue of Rock Hill and Harold Bushue and Mike Bushue, both of Rankin; four daughters, Belva Trudeau of New Hall, Calif., Judy Johnson of Columbus, Ind., Janet Bushue of Danville and Patty Fancher of Columbus, Ind.; four brothers, Robert Hinkle of St. Louis, Milton Hinkle of Effingham, Ill., Ted Hinkle of Teutopolis, Ill., and Jim Hinkle of St. Louis; four sisters, Eileen O'Donnel, Virginia Poynte and Avenele Peters, all of Effingham, Ill., and Betty Martin of St. Louis; 28 grandchildren; and 38 great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin and one hour before the church service.

Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or to the charity of one's choice.

Frances Callaham

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances O'Shields Callaham, 88, of Morningside Assisted Living in Rock Hill, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Lowery officiating.

A native of Jonesville, Mrs. Callaham was a daughter of the late John Carson O'Shields and Martha Jane Sanders O'Shields. She was the widow of John William Callaham. A homemaker, she was a charter member of Myers Park Baptist Church and was a charter member of Myers Park Country Club, both in Charlotte.

Surviving are her daughter, Jayne Burton of Lake Wylie; four step - grandchildren; and five step - great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the home of Jayne and Tom Burton Sr, 2204 Duck Cove Lane, Lake Wylie.

Teresa Fletcher

LANCASTER - Mrs. Teresa Truesdale Fletcher, 81, of 201 Chesterfield Ave. died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs, with the Rev. Carlos Gardner officiating.

A native of Heath Springs, Mrs. Fletcher was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Truesdale and Hettie Denton Truesdale. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was retired from Belk Department Store.

Surviving are her son, David Fletcher of Heath Springs, two daughters, Linda Rogers of Mars Hill and Janice Elliott of Lancaster; two brothers, G.C. Truesdale Jr. and Mike Truesdale, both of Heath Springs; three sisters, Lib Hendricks of Lexington, Nelrae Bostick of Columbia and Grace Croxton of Kershaw; six grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home of Janice Elliott, 539 Oakhaven Drive, Lancaster.

Thelma Fudge

EDGEMOOR - Miss Thelma Mae Fudge, 59, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating and the Rev. Derrick Yelton assisting.

A native of Chester County, Miss Fudge was a daughter of the late William Frank Fudge Sr. and Margaret Orr Fudge.

Surviving are four brothers, Harry O. Fudge and James T. Fudge, both of Edgemoor, Fred M. Fudge of Richburg and Donald Fudge of Chester; four sisters, Agnes F. Bost and Sarah Glenn F. Bailey, both of Charlotte, Lucille F. Riley of Edgemoor and Jean F. Loflin of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
