James Aiken

CHESTER - Mr. James Murphy Aiken, 71, of 682 Sweeney Street died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Chester Memorial Gar - dens, with the Rev. Donald Scoggins officiating.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Aiken was a son of the late James Alexander Aiken and Lorene Stevenson Aiken. He was retired from Zenith Engraving Co. He attended Chester County Schools.

Surviving are his wife, Estelle B. Aiken; his son, Jimmy Aiken of Chester; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Roosevelt Harris

FORT MILL - Mr. Roosevelt Harris of 22 Rea Circle, No. 22, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carlwell Culp officiating and the Revs. M.M. Baxter, Loretta Adams and Richard Graham assisting.

A native of York County, Mr. Harris was a son of the late Johnny Harris Sr. and Annie B. White Harris. He was a brick mason. He attended George Fish High School in Fort Mill. He worked for Springs Industries for a number of years.

Surviving are four brothers, Levi Harris and Joe Lee Harris, both of Fort Mill, James Harris of Rock Hill and Johnny Harris of Clover; two half - brothers, Henry Morrison and Melvin Morrison, both of Clover; five sisters, Maggie Harris, Susie Harris and Bonita Turner, all of Fort Mill, Sarah Peoples of Rock Hill and Joanne Payton of Charlotte; and his half - sister, Sarah Houston of Atlanta.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday.

Robinson Funeral home is in charge.

Alissa Hurst

LANCASTER - Miss Alissa Lynn Hurst, infant daughter of Dorothy Marie Hurst and Damiro Martinez died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be private.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Juan Palacious of Lancaster; two sisters, Maria Hurst and Elizabeth Martinez, both of Lancaster; and her grandmother, Carrie Burnett of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel.

Soulee Deese

LANDRUM - Mr. Soulee Deese, 83, formerly of 1318 Pleasant Hill Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Woodruff Health Care.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Wood Mortuary, with the Rev. Don Kelley officiating.

A native of York, Mr. Deese was a son of the late Lonnie Deese and Alice Gaynor Deese. He was retired from Victor Mills. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his son, Alan Deese of California; two daughters, Ruth Brannon of Landrum and Ann Brown of Greer; two sisters, Connie Clinton and Ruth Hinson, both of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; and 13 great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the daughter's home, Ruth Brannon, 1316 Pleasant Hill Road, Landrum.

Alice King

CHESTER - Mrs. Alice Brown King, of 123 Cemetery St. died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Joseph H. Neal officiating and Pastor Otha L. Smith assisting. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. King was a daughter of the late Fred Brown and Mary Lewis Brown. She was the widow of John Matthew King. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, she attended the public schools of Chester County. She owned a catering service, which she successfully operated for many years. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she served for 43 years and was a deaconess. She worked for the Missionary Society, Pulpit Aid Club and the Senior Choir at Calvary Baptist Church. She was active in the Etta Stanback Federated Club and the House of Ruth.

Surviving are three nieces, Vivian Crawford of Charlotte and Ruth Duncan and Madie Long, both of Roxbury, Mass.; her great - nephew, John Richard Christopher King; and her great - niece, Robbie P. I. King of Chester.

The family will receive friends at the home of her niece and nephew, Margie and John King, 121 Cemetery St., Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 7 p.m. at Christopher King Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

Kenneth Vance

ROCK HILL - Mr. Kenneth A. "Butch Raymond" Vance, 52, of 1226 Crawford Road died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Sherman McBeth officiating and the Revs. B.R. Wilson, Lavenia Pride and Vanessa McVay assisting. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. B.R. Wilson. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Vance was a son of the late O'Daniel Vance and Princess Lytle Vance. He attended Emmett Scott High School. He worked for Darby & Sons Well Drilling.

Surviving are his son, Randall Keith Isom of York; four brothers, Michael O. Vance of Valley, Calif., Ronald D. Vance and Stephen "Tony" Vance, both of Rock Hill, and Todd Vance of the home; three sisters, Danice O. Vance and Carrietta Stinson, both of Rock Hill, and Tami V. Byers of Fort Mill; his special friend, Patricia Adams of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today.

The family will receive friends at home.

Clemons Funeral Home is in charge.

Margie Usher

CHERAW - Mrs. Margie Teal Usher, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

A native of Pageland, Mrs. Usher was a daughter of the late Jerome Teal and Nora Turnage Teal. She was retired from INA Bearing Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Willis A. Usher Sr. of Cheraw; two sons, Willis A. Usher Jr. of Hartsville and Michael J. Usher of Rock Hill; her brother, Carson G. Teal of Cheraw; and her grandson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Norton Funeral Home in Cheraw.

Inez Adams

LANCASTER - Mrs. Inez Baker Adams, 88, of 1525 Kings Circle died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at the Church of God of Prophecy, with the Revs. Ted Tinker, Bruce Craig and Kenneth Baker officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Walter Baker and Virgie Starnes Baker. She retired from Springs Industries and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Lancaster.

Surviving are two sons, William J. Adams and William Eugene Adams, both of Lancaster; four daughters, Helen Sullivan of Augusta, Ga., Carolyn Caskey, Sybil Lynn and Bonnie Twitt, all of Lancaster; her brother, Walter Baker of Lan - caster; her sister, Margie Baker of Augusta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great - grandchildren; and one great - great - grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy, 1687 Alpha Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Wayne Cole

INDIAN LAND - Mr. Wayne Carl Cole, 66, of 621 Marvin Road died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, with the Revs. Randall Odom and Bill Quartrone officiating. Burial at the church cemetery will be private.

A native of Waverly, N.Y., Mr. Cole was a son of the late Truman Earl Cole and Marie Pauline Johnson Cole. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the A&P Food Plant in Horseheads, N.Y. He also worked for IBM as a custodian in Owego, N.Y. After moving to Indian Land, Mr. Cole was a custodian for Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, which he attended.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Hyatt Cole; his daughter, Karen Flynn of Indian Land; three brothers, Elwood Cole and Eugene Cole, both of Waverly, and Kenneth Cole of Barton, N.Y.; his sister, Jean Cole of Waverly; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Gilbert Cunningham

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Gilbert "Gil" Cunningham, 70, of 2629 Georgetown Road died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. Z.B. Wells officiating and the Rev. G. Sharpe assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Cunningham was a son of the late Robert Cunningham and Nannie Tidwell Cunningham. He was member of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church, where he served as vice president of the Lay Council, was a member of the Stewardess Board and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. He graduated from Great Falls public schools. A veteran, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a retired forester for Crescent Land and Timber, a former security guard for Duke Power and was an attendant for the Chester County Recyclable Center in Great Falls. He was a member of the Mount Zion Masonic Lodge No. 127, the Chester County Voters' Association, the NAACP, the Sheriff's Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a notary public.

Surviving are his wife, Janie Barber Cunningham; four sons, Kendrick Cunningham of Charlotte, Theodore Wilmore of Philadelphia, Nathaniel Wilmore and George Wilmore, both of Great Falls; his daughter, Joanne Wilmore of Great Falls; his brother, James Lee Jones of Lancaster; his sister, Ethelrene Beaty of Great Falls; his granddaughter, Aletta "Sally" Wilmore of Great Falls, and eight other grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home and other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

Clyde Funderburk

CHESTER - Mr. Clyde Funderburk, 81, of 121 Academy St. died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Williams officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at Westside Cemetery in Lancaster.

A Lancaster native, Mr. Funderburk was the widower of Barbara Norton Funderburk. He was a retired spinning room superintendent with Springs Industries. He also taught textiles at Lancaster Vocational School for several years.

Mr. Funderburk graduated from Lancaster High School and attended Clemson College. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, a Mason and a Shriner.

Surviving are his son, Fred Funderburk of Chester; his daughter, Clyde Ellen Funderburk of Chester; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.
