Joe Scott

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. Thomas Edward Scott Jr. died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lando Cemetery, with the Rev. J.P. Greenway officiating.

A native of Edgemoor, Mr. Scott was a son of Tommy Scott and Margie Bailey Scott. He was a cabinet maker and was a member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church in Lando.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his son, Josh Scott of Rock Hill; his sister, Jennifer Edwards of Edgemoor; and his special companion, Patricia Worrell of North Myrtle Beach.

The family will receive friends at the home of Tommy and Margie Scott, 3526 Mount Holly Road, Edgemoor.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Esther Dorman

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Esther Reading Dorman, 89, of 14279 Highway 55 West died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Rehabilitation & Health Center of Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Oklahoma, Mrs. Dorman was a daughter of the late Albert Nelson and Nora Burrow Nelson. She was the widow of Burl Reading and Fred Dorman.

Surviving are her daughter, Arlyne Malmgren of Riverside, Calif.; three sons, William A. Reading of Riverside, Leroy Reading of Utah and Charles R. Reading of Blacksburg; and 17 grandchildren.

M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover is in charge.

Edward Garcia

ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Guy Garcia, 88, of 2261 Indian Trail died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward, with Bishop Pieter Reynders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Sanford, Colo., Mr. Garcia was a son of the late Rufus Garcia and Abbie Patterson Garcia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward, and was a member of the Catawba Indian Nation, where he was a drummer and a dancer. He was the retired owner of the Garcia Paint Co.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Blue Garcia; three daughters, Barbara G. Talley, Marlene G. Pittman and Michele G. Atkinson, all of Rock Hill; his brother, Elbert Garce of Smithfield, Utah; three sisters, Viola Schneider of Pueblo West, Colo., Dorothy Ong of Pueblo, Colo., and Martha Riedel of Hagerman, Idaho; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Donnie Hinson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Donnie McArthur Hinson, 58, of 3680 Mount Holly Road died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Vision Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daggett N. Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hinson was a son of the late L.A. Hinson and Helen Bryant Hinson. He was a member of New Vision Free Will Baptist Church. He worked for Advanced Auto Parts in Rock Hill. He owned Hinson's Garage and Alignment Service.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Hinson of the home; and his brother, Jerry Hinson of Richburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.

Memorials may be made to New Vision Free Will Baptist Church, 630 Ole Simpson Place, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Doretha Jones

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Doretha Caldwell Jones of 373 Workman St. died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hebron Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late John Caldwell and Easter Wallace Caldwell. She was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church and was a former missionary. She attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are three sisters, Eva Boykins of Baltimore, Lela Gaines of Alexandria, Va., and Bessie Caldwell of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at 336 Scoggins St.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Thursday.

Shirley McClinton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Shirley McClinton of 811 Jefferson Ave. died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p. m. Wednesday at Cedar Grove Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Scott officiating and the Revs. Ira Roddey and John McCoy assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. McClinton was a son of the late John Van McClinton and Mattie Shirley McClinton. He retired from Winthrop University. He was a member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church. He attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are his wife, Rosa Bell McClinton; two sons, Michael McClinton and Stevie McClinton, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Delcina McClinton, Vicky McClinton and Tomeka McClinton, all of Rock Hill; five brothers, Frank McClinton of Middleton, Ohio, Hazel McClinton of Buffalo, N.Y., and Sammie McClinton, Donald McClinton and Tommie McClinton, all of Rock Hill; five sisters, Johnnie Mae Mobley and Bettye Watson, both of Rock Hill, Mamie Armstrong of Fort Mill, Margie McClinton of New York and Geraldine McClinton of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.

Robert Stroud

RICHBURG - Mr. Robert Stroud of 2263 Mountain Gap Road died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Moriah AME Zion Church, with Pastor Grady Sharpe officiating and the Revs. William Able, J. W. Baxter and Moses Hayes assisting. Burial will be at Mount Moriah AME Zion Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Stroud was a son of the late Moses Stroud and Nannie Crain Stroud. He was a member of Mount Moriah AME Zion Church. He attended the public schools of Chester County. He worked for Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Osie B. Stroud; four sons, Robert Stroud Jr. and John Stroud, both of the home, and Agurs Stroud and Jeff Stroud, both of Richburg; four daughters, Lydia Stroud and Angela Stroud, both of Richburg, Renee Stroud of Chester and Sameeka Corneluis of Winnsboro; three brothers, James Stroud and T.W. Stroud, both of Buffalo, N.Y., and Frank Stroud of Charlotte; three sisters, Mozelle McMullen of Charlotte, Maggie Bell Gaston and Willie Mae Stroud of Harrisburg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

The viewing will be from 1 to 9 p.m. tonight and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

Sandy Larson

YORK - Mrs. Sandy Faile Larson, 44, of 1172 Turkey Creek Ridge Road died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Flint Hill Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Larson was a daughter of the late Joseph S. Faile and Mary Faile. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, David J. Larson of York; her son, Larry Dean Dover of Missouri; two daughters, April Dover and Jessica Nicole Gibson, both of York; two brothers, Roger Faile of York and Perry Faile of Fort Lawn; her sister, Dora Sue Faile Johnson of York; her stepmother, Mossy Faile of York; her stepbrother, Mark Towery of York; her stepsister, Addy Towery of York; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at home.

Julia Wylie

DUE WEST - Ms. Julia Eleanor Wylie, 91, of 18 Frank Y. Pressly Drive died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Carlisle Nursing Center.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Due West Retirement Center. A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, with the Revs. Calvin Draffin and Charles Todd officiating.

A native of Chester, Ms. Wylie was a daughter of the late Dr. Am-brose Miller Wylie and Elizabeth Hardeman Wylie. She was a teacher. She graduated from Chester High School, Erskine College and the University of North Carolina. She was a past member of the Chester Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her brother, W. Brown Wylie of Lancaster; and her sister, Mary Wylie Brownlee of Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to Due West Retirement Center, P.O. Box 307, Due West, SC 29639.

Mattie Blackwell

GAFFNEY - Mrs. Mattie Estelle Osment Blackwell, 92, of 1219 Wilcox Ave. died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wed-nesday at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, with the Revs. Harold Henderson and James Humphries officiating. Burial will be at Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Cherokee County, Mrs. Blackwell was a daughter of the late Lawrence Osment and Fannie Breakfield Osment. She was the widow of W. D. "Dever" Blackwell. She was a homemaker and was a member of Little Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Glen Blackwell of Duncan; two daughters, Margie Worley and Christine Hyder, both of Gaffney; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Christine Hyder's home, 128 Sierra Drive.

Annie Carson

KERSHAW - Mrs. Annie Long Carson, 96, of 422 Winterwood Road died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Julian Long officiating.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Carson was a daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Anna Welsh Long. She was the widow of James Oliver Carson. She attended the University of South Carolina.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, 3795 Pleasant Plain Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.
