Gerald David Koon

Gerald David Koon, 62, of 303 Loop Road, Little Mountain, died Monday, November 1, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Koon was born in Newberry County, a son of Earnestine McCartha Koon and the late John David Koon. He served his country in the US Army. He was a life long member of St. Peter (Pineywood) Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school for 20 years, a former congregational council member and former church treasurer. Mr. Koon retired from the Department of Transportation, having worked 3 years in Georgia and 31 years in South Carolina.
Mr. Koon is survived by his mother; his wife, Linda Epting Koon, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Lynn and Steven Ehney of Greenwood; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald David Koon, Jr. and Denise Koon of Little Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Barney R. and Joann Koon of Gaston; and three grandchildren, Jon-Drayton and Collin Ehney and Madelyn Koon.
Funeral services for Gerald David Koon will be conducted at 11:00 A. .M. Thursday at St Peter (Pineywood) Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Tholstrup. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. The family will be at the residence, 303 Loop Road, Little Mountain.

Clifton E. “Red” Dorn
December 3, 2004

Clifton E. “Red” Dorn, 90, of Springfield Place, Newberry, widower of Hattie “Sug” Kesler Dorn, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Dorn was born on February 27, 1914 in Anderson County, a son of the late, Thomas O. and Florence Banes Dorn. He was a retired employee of Newberry Mills, a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, a former member of the Congregational Council and a former member of Lutheran Men.
Mr. Dorn is survived by a number of nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and great great nieces and great great nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Edna Crawford, Margaret Dagenhart, Merle Jones, and Madge Butler and three brothers, Clinton Dorn, Herbert Dorn, and Kenneth Dorn.
Funeral services for Clifton E. “Red” Dorn will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 1307 Drayton St., Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Kesler, James Kesler, Steven Long, Wayne Kesler, Craig Kesler, Larry Livingston and Paul Shealy.

Cathryn Livingston Ruff
December 04, 2004

Cathryn Livingston Ruff, 94, of 13989 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, widow of Raymond H. Ruff, Sr., died Saturday, December 04, 2004 at her residence.
Mrs. Ruff was born on September 26, 1910 in Prosperity, a daughter of the late Berry Mosby and Alma Kibler Livingston . She was a 1931 graduate of Newberry College and she taught school in Newberry and Kershaw Counties. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church and the Pearl Counts Circle and she was a former Sunday School teacher of the Primary Department for many years and a former member of the Crepe Myrtle Garden Club.
Mrs. Ruff is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Ruff Sease and David E. Sease of Newberry: a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond H. Ruff, Jr. and Vicki Shealy Ruff of Newberry: four grandchildren, Rebecca Harmon Steen, David O. Harmon, Cathryn “Beth” Ruff Jaeger, and Raymond H. Ruff, III; a great granddaughter, Mallorie A. Jaeger; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Owens Livingston of Columbia and Willie Ruff of Prosperity.
Funeral services for Cathryn Livingston Ruff will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eddie Taylor. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Strategoula E. Galanis
November 26, 2004

Strategoula E. Galanis, 90, of 2518 Henry Ave., Newberry, widow of George Galanis, died Friday, November 26, 2004 at Jesse Frank Hawkins Health Care.
Mrs. Galanis was born on Feb. 22, 1914 in Vassara, Laconia, Greece the daughter of the late Konstandino and Eleni Karragianni Economoupoulos. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Church in Vassara.
Mrs. Galanis is survived by a daughter, Litsa Economos of Newberry; two sons, Denis Galanis of Long Island, NY and Kosta Galanis of Manhattan, NY; two grandchildren, Toula Economos Hubbard of Columbia and George Galanis of New York; and a great grandson, Christopher Hubbard of Columbia.
Funeral services for Strategoula E. Galanis will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Father Aris Metrakos. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M. on Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. The family will be at the residence 2518 Henry Ave.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Palmetto Chapter, PO Box 7044, Columbia SC 29202.

Grace Banks Ruff

Grace Banks Ruff, 95, of 1807 Ebenezer Rd., Newberry, widow of L.W. Ruff, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Ruff was born on February 14, 1909 in Saluda County, the daughter of the late Samuel G. and Elizabeth Rogers Banks. She was a retired employee of Kendall Co., Mollohon Plant and was a member of Glenn St. Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ruff is survived by a daughter, Frances R. Mack of Newberry; two sons and daughters-in-law, S. J. and Grace A. Ruff and Mitchell and Peggy Ruff all of Newberry; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Grace Banks Ruff will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Glenn St. Baptist Church by the Rev. Todd Kirkland and the Rev. Donald West. Interment will be in the Newberry Memorial Gardens
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 P. M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 1807 Ebenezer Road, Newberry.
Memorial may be made to Glenn St. Baptist Church, 300 Glenn St., Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Evelyn Sease Boozer
November 13, 2004

Evelyn Sease Boozer 85, of Springfield Place, Newberry, widow of R. Granville Boozer died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Boozer was born on November 24, 1918 in Newberry County, the daughter of the late Jacob E. and Lee Ora Lominack Sease. She was a member of Newberry A. R. Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Boozer is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth G. and Karen T. Boozer of Anderson; a sister, Margaret Hanna of Newberry; and two grandchildren Hope Boozer of Lawrenceville, GA and Chris Driggers of Norfolk, VA. She was predeceased by a daughter Pamela Driggers,a sister, Edna Sharp, three brothers, Robert Sease, Heyward Sease and Ellebre Sease.
Funeral services for Evelyn Sease Boozer will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Tony Locke. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

James F. (Jim) Kyzer
November 11, 2004

James F. (Jim) Kyzer of Columbia died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Kyzer was born in Newberry County, the son of the late Furman G. and Evelyn Dominick Kyzer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a retired employee of Springs Industries and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Kyzer is survived by his wife, Julia Pugh Kyzer of Columbia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tanya K. and Brian D. Williams of Inman and Trina K. and Larry C. Poston, Jr. of Columbia; and four grandchildren, Zachary, Andrew, Matthew, and Daniel Poston.
Memorial services for James F. “Jim” Kyzer will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George Head and the Rev. Pat Griffin. The family will receive friends following the services in the Gathering Room at the church. At the request of the family, entombment services will be private.
