Marian Breakefield

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Mrs. Marian Knox Breakefield, 78, of White Oak Manor died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodside Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Newsome officiating.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Breakefield was a daughter of the late John Jackson Knox and Viola McCarter Knox. She was the widow of J. C. Breakefield. She retired from the Gaston Gazette, where she was an accounting clerk. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain.

Surviving are her brother, Jacob R. Knox of Catawba; her sister, Margaret Knox Aderholdt of Kings Mountain; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends at 203 S. Gaston St. in Kings Mountain after the service.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1188, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge.

Evelyn Doby

LANCASTER - Mrs. Evelyn Neal Doby, 79, of 312 Gillsbrook Road died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Dale Roach and Darrell Twitty officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Doby was a daughter of the late Lewis Uriah Neal and Effie Bowers Neal. She was a homemaker and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Williard James Doby of the home; three daughters, Judy Murphy of Great Falls, and Rachel Pittman and Laura Maria Doby, both of Lancaster; two brothers, Connie Maxwell Neal of Myrtle Beach and Mahoney Neal of Kershaw; her sister, Audrey Pitts of Heath Springs; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Quentin Lentz

YORK - Mr. Quentin Earlinedo Lentz, 27, of 1660 Branch Road died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ron Lambright officiating.

A native of Charlotte, Mr. Lentz was a son of the late Roberta Caldwell. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte. He worked for Asplundh Tree Service.

Surviving are two daughters, Veronica Rachel Holmes-Lentz and Vanessa Renee Holmes, and their mother, Gail Holmes, all of Rock Hill; his foster parents, Bob Zanesky and LuAnn Zanesky, both of York; his foster brother, Ryan Hugh Shay of York; his foster sister, Jessica Lynn Shay of Oakgrove, Ky.; his sister; and two brothers.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home and after the service at home.

William Lindsey Sr.

CHESTER - Mr. William Crawford Lindsey Sr., 80, of 961 B. Shallowbrook Drive died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Bishop and Curtis Marshall officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Spring Creek, N.C., Mr. Lindsey was a son of the late Furman Albert Lindsey and Betsy Godfrey Lindsey. He retired from Springs Industries and Chester County Hospital. He attended the schools of Union County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the Southwest Pacific theatre, where he received a Good Conduct Medal, two Purple Hearts and three battle stars. He was stationed in New Guinea for 29 months. He was wounded in the Philippine Islands.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Clinton Lindsey; his son, Billy Lindsey of Chester; three brothers, Ralph Lindsey, Furman Lindsey and Homer Lindsey, all of Chester; his sister, Mabel Lindsey of Chester; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church Mission Fund, 619 Saluda Road, Chester, SC 29706.

Thomas Roof Jr.

CHESTER - Mr. Thomas Jefferson Roof Jr., 83, of 162 Crestwood Drive died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be private.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Roof was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Roof Sr. and Emma Pittman Roof. He retired from Springs Industries. He attended schools in Chester County and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his son, Rusty Roof of Chester; his daughter, Robin Lewis of Chester; his brother, Sam Roof of Charleston; his sister, Thelma R. Lee of Columbia; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 128 Stone-mark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Joe Scott

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. Thomas Edward "Joe" Scott Jr. died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Lando Cemetery, with the Revs. J.P. Greenway and Sam Warwick officiating.

A native of Edgemoor, Mr. Scott was a son of Tommy Scott and Margie Bailey Scott. He was a cabinet maker and was a member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church in Lando.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his son, Josh Scott of Rock Hill; his sister, Jennifer Edwards of Edgemoor; and his special companion, Patricia Worrell of North Myrtle Beach.

The family will receive friends at the home of Tommy and Margie Scott, 3526 Mount Holly Road, Edgemoor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heath Memorial United Methodist Church Van Fund, P.O. Box 134, Lando SC 29724.

Gilbert Seay

BRYSON CITY, N.C. - Gilbert F. Seay, 84, of Jenkins Branch died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Jackson Line Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roy Cable officiating. Burial will be at Swain Memorial Park.

A native of Swain County, Mr. Seay was a son of the late William Harrison Seay and Polly Watkins Seay. He was the widower of Joyce Marie Brooks Seay. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a charter member of Jackson Line Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Huggins Seay; his son, Gilbert Alan Seay of Fort Mill; four daughters, Frances Donita "Susie" Hendrix of Leesville, Doris Marie Primm of Poland, Ohio, Betty Ann Robinson of Charlotte and Nancy Jean Seay of Buena Vista, Colo.; his brother, Odell Seay of Piedmont, Ala.; two sisters, Bertha Cloer and Maybell Barker, both of Bryson City; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Crisp Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Travis Watson

NEWPORT - Mr. Travis Sentelle Watson of 330 Clayton Ave. died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating. The eulogy will be conducted by the Rev. C. D. Stackhouse. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Watson was a son of Willie Byers and the late Rinda Watson. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church. He attended Northwestern High School.

Surviving are two brothers, Carlos Watson and Karldesmon Boozer, both of Rock Hill; his stepmother, Annette Clark; and his grandfather, Willie Roy Byers of Mooresville, N.C.

The family will receive friends at 326 Finley Square and 330 Clayton Ave.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home.

Pauline Baskin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Pauline "Polly" Hayes Baskin, 88, of 1611 Constitution Blvd. died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Eden Gardens.

Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thurs-day at Grandview Memorial Park. A memorial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church chapel, with Dr. Timothy McClen-don officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Baskin was a daughter of the late John I. Hayes and Dixie Kimbrell Hayes. She was the widow of Carol K. Baskin. She was a member of Saint John's United Methodist Church and a member of the Browning Sykes Sunday school class. She retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. with 50 years service, beginning in 1929 in the packing department as a payroll clerk. She was the last surviving member of the company's "Brick & Mortar Gang."

Surviving are two nieces, Ethel A. Craven of Rock Hill and Barbara A. Thompson of Charlotte; three great-nephews; her great-niece; four great-great nieces; and three great-great nephews.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service at St. John's United Methodist Church.

Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, is in charge.

Mary Bigham

YORK - Mrs. Mary Rollins Bigham, 75, of 3268 Chester Highway died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at 4421 S.C. 5 in Catawba.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Adkins officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Bigham was a daughter of the late Ceba Rollins and Cora Bell Wilson Rollins. She was a homemaker and was of the Church of God faith. She retired from Randolph Yarns.

Surviving are her husband, James D. Bigham; two sons, Carl H. Martin of Rock Hill and James Lee Martin of York; two daughters, Ruby Dover of Rock Hill and Doris Deese of Catawba; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Harvest Ministries, 1211 S. Anderson Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
