Sylvia Alexander

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Sylvia Scott Alexander, 60, of 1314 Union Road died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Thelma Moore Scott. She was a member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and Circle Chair. She worked at Matthews Belk for 12 years.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Ray Alexander; two sons, Michael Ray Alexander of Charlotte and Edward Brian Alexander of Gastonia; two brothers, Samuel Scott Jr. of Bessemer City, N.C., and Robert Jerald Scott of Gastonia; two sisters, Linda Enos of Rock Hill and Patricia Walters of Bessemer City.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McLean Funeral Directors.

Karleen Allen

LANCASTER - Karleen Saundra May Allen, 6, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Catledge officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of West Hills, Calif., Karleen was a daughter of Timmy Terry and Kathy Terry. She was a first-grader at Brooklyn Springs Elementary School.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her brother, Timmy Terry of Lancaster; her sister, Charleen Jo Beth Allen of Lancaster; her paternal grandparents, Harvey Terry and Dorothy Terry, both of Lancaster; and her maternal grandmother, Saundra Allen of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home of her parents, 1593 Virginia St., Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to the Childrens Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte NC 28232-2861.

Sterling Boler

ROCK HILL - Mr. Sterling Boler of 507 Hampton St. died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Tanglewood Health Care Center in Ridgeway.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pineville AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Eugene Goodwin officiating and the Rev. Mary L. Adams assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Union County, Mr. Boler was a son of the late Willie Gettys and Lillie Boler Gettys. He was the widower of Anna L. Gettys Boler. He was a member of Pineville AME Zion Church. He was a member of the AP&B Society. He attended public schools of York County.

Surviving are three sons, Walter Steele Jr. of Rock Hill, Joe Gettys of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Anthony Gettys of York; his daughter, Pearlie M. Logan of Clover; his brother, Omar Gettys of Rock Hill; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral home.

Connie Garris

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Connie Pitmon Garris, 92, formerly of 48 Poplar St., died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Tanglewood Health Care Center in Ridgeway.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Bradley officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Garris was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Pitmon and Leslie Mae Bowers Pitmon. She was the widow of Hazel T. Garris. She retired from J.P. Stevens Co. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and attended schools in Lancaster County.

Surviving are her son, J. F. "Bill" Garris of Great Falls; her daughter, Shirley Irene Barrett of Clemmons, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Eugene Glenn

CHESTER - Mr. Eugene L. Glenn of 116 McClure St. died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Brown's Chapel AME Zion Church in Chester, with the Rev. Otha L. Smith officiating and the Revs. Anthony Commodore, G. B. Guy Jr. and Jesse J. Peay assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. Glenn attended Chester Senior High School and York Technical College.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela F. Glenn of Chester; his daughter, Dominique A. Glenn of Chester; three sisters, Jessie M. Glenn, Annie G. Hope and Merle G. Coleman, all of Chester; and eight brothers, David W. Glenn and Joshua R. Glenn, both of Trenton, N.J., Clarence Glenn of Fort Mill, James M. Glenn of Sharon and John W. Glenn, Lowry M. Glenn, Earl Glenn and Vernon L. Glenn, all of Chester.

The family will receive friends from noon to 9 tonight at Gore's Funeral Home and at other times at home.

The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. Friday until the service.

Robert Griffin

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Norman Griffin, 48, of 325 E. White St. died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Edgefield.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Jenkins and Linda Lee officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Griffin was a son of Azzilee Gamble Griffin and the late James D. Griffin.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, Lonnie Griffin and Terry Griffin, both of Rock Hill; five sisters, Betty Taylor, Nancy Mobley, Sheila Millstead and Louise Hollinger, all of Rock Hill, and Mary Knight of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 tonight at home.

Margaret Moore-Baker

FORT MILL - Mrs. Margaret "Nootie" Moore-Baker, 79, of 2666 Island Cove Road died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Lavender and Father John Giuliani officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Moore-Baker was a daughter of the late Robert Brown Wolfe and Margaret Elizabeth Harris Wolfe. She was the widow of Nelson Moore. She retired from Celanese Corp. and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Vance F. Baker; her daughter, Daphne Carrouth of the home; two brothers, Robert Brown Wolfe Jr. of Charlotte and John Miller Wolfe of Enterprise, Ala.; her grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service Friday in the Fellowship Hall.

Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

Cora Tidwell

DETROIT - Miss Cora Ann Tidwell, 56, formerly of Richburg, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Richburg, with the Rev. Benjamin Murdock officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Miss Tidwell was a daughter of the late Joe W. Tidwell Sr. and Mary Caldwell Tidwell. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She attended the schools of Chester County. She graduated from Finley High School. She was a former L.P.N. at Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Surviving are her daughter, Antonette Lottie Tidwell of Michigan; three brothers, Robert Tidwell of New Jersey, Joe Tidwell Jr. of Fort Lawn and James Lewis of Great Falls; eleven sisters, Lottie Brown, Henrietta Bowler, Laura Tidwell and Elizabeth Johnson, all of Chester, Louise Lewis and Lois Lewis, both of Great Falls, Mary L. Culp of Richburg, Maggie B. Shaw and Katherine Tidwell, both of Detroit, Elsie Jefferson of Louisiana and Sarah Cousar of New York; her stepmother, Lena C. Tidwell of Richburg; her stepsister, Annette Patrick of New York; four grandchildren; her step-grandchild; and her step-great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sam and Lottie T. Brown, 117 Harris St., Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester, is in charge.

Susanne Veasey

ROCK HILL - Ms. Susanne Veasey, 54, of Rock Hill, formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Dorchester Road, in Charlotte.

Ms. Veasey was a daughter of the late Helen Veasey and John Veasey. She was in management at Sonoco Fiber Drum Division after being an LPGA golfer.

Surviving are three sisters, Judy Glover of Rock Hill and Brenda Andrews and Pat Kistler, both of Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 9844-C Southern Pines Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28273.

Heritage Funeral Home is in charge.

Danny Kennington

ROCK HILL - Mr. Danny Ray Kennington, 49, of 1625 Oak Court died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Lee officiating and the Rev. Bruce Craig assisting. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Kennington was a son of Mildred Bailey Kennington and the late James C. Kennington. He was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Derrick G. Kenning-ton of Blacksburg; his brother, James Roger Kennington of Rock Hill; and three sisters, Carolyn Croxton of Ruby and Cathy Rockett and Jennie McCorkle, both of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends at home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1105 Eden Terrace, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
