Wiley Blanton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Wiley Blanton Jr., 76, of 406 Lake Club Drive died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tirzah ARP Church, with the Rev. Jan Senneker, Dr. S. Barry Eller and Dr. Doug O. Jones officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Appling County, Ga., Mr. Blanton was a son of the late Wiley Blanton Sr. and Belle Johnson Blanton. He owned Blanton Enterprises from 1978 to 1995. He was a member of the Rock Hill Rotary Club, where he was a past-president and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was past president of the YMCA. He was past leadership member of the Boy Scouts of America and was an honorary member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Management Honor Society. He was a recipient of the Service to Mankind Award from the Rock Hill Sertoma Club and the first recipient of the Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce's Business Person of the Year in 1990. Mr. Blanton served on the Winthrop University Board of Visitors, the Erskine College Board of Directors and the S.C. Small Business Development Advisory Board. He was a member of Tirzah ARP Church, where he served as an elder and taught Sunday school. He served in the Navy during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Nola Blanton; three sons, John W. Blanton Sr. of Hickory, N.C.; Paul F. Grimm of Biloxi, Miss., and Carl P. Grimm of Rock Hill; his daughter, Deborah S. Perini of Greenville; his stepmother, Essie Mae Blanton of Jesup, Ga.; two half-brothers, Glenn Blanton of Jesup and Warren Blanton of Hephzibah, Ga.; two half-sisters, Barbara Whittke of Savannah, Ga. and Carolyn Richardson of Aiken; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel, and other times at the home of Carl and Cindy Grimm, 4395 Ivywood Drive.

Memorials may be made to Tirzah ARP Church 2002 Fund or to the Tirzah ARP Cemetery Memorial Association, 6161 Mt. Gallant Road, York, SC 29745 or to the Nola P. Blanton Scholarship, c/o Erskine College, Due West, SC 29639.

James Parrish

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Howard Parrish, 81, of 162 Grady Drive died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Susan Denne officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Santuck, Mr. Parrish was a son of the late Tony L. Parrish and Mary Kathleen McClintock Parrish. He and his wife established James Parrish's Flowerland in 1947. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the VFW and the Rock Hill Elks Club. He was a charter member of the Rock Hill Optimist Club. He was past president of the S.C. Florist Association. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. He was an Army Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Dolores Hart Parrish; his son, James "Randy" Parrish of Rock Hill; his daughter, Jennifer Cooper of Rock Hill; his sister, Betty Jean Hudson of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Luther Richards Sr.

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Luther Brocknell "Cadillac" Richards Sr., 55, of 1480 Blacksburg Hwy., Lot No. 9, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his daughter's home.

The funeral will be 5 p.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Revs. Harold Ervin and Vernon Craig officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of McCormick County, Mr. Richards was the son of the late Charlie G. Richards and Lottie Mae Wylie Richards. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Dover Richards; his son, Luther Richards Jr. of the home; his daughter, Loretta Richards Varnadore of Blacksburg; two brothers, Eugene Richards and Maurice Richards, both of Blacksburg; his sister, Mattie Wylie of Blacksburg; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today and Sunday at the home of his daughter, Loretta Varnadore, 102 West Pine St., Blacksburg.

White Columns Funeral Service in Blacksburg is in charge.

Raymond Bowling

KERSHAW - Mr. Raymond Edward Bowling, 65, of 180 Blackmon Circle died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Sand Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Patrick J. Minihane and Gilliam "Butch" Gordon officiating. Burial will be at the Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Bedford Falls, Va., Mr. Bowling was a son of the late Harry Bowling and Mary Emma Reed Bowling. He was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Nannie Ruth Roberts Bowling; three daughters, Mary Curlee and Carol Pumber, both of Newport News, Va., and Betty Evert of Yorktown, Va.; her stepson, Hubert E. Adams Jr. of Kershaw; a stepdaughter, Patty Rushing of Kershaw; three brothers, Glenwood Bowling of Kershaw, Wayne Bowling of Ruther Glen, Va. and Rodney Bowling of Lenoir, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Terrell of Ruther Glen and Frances Daniel of Montpelier, Va.; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sand Hill Baptist Church, 6964 Bishopville Hwy., Kershaw, SC 29067 or to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane - Westpark Plaza, Columbia, SC 29210.

Charles Player Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Ray Player Sr., 67, 778 Old Friendship Road died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Jason Hunt officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Player was a son of the late Jessie Eugene Player and Bessie Lockhart Player. He retired from the U.S. Navy and was known for his showing and raising birds and quail. He was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Lowder Player; his son, Charles "Charlie" R. Player Jr. of Rock Hill; his daughter, Kay P. Akley of Rock Hill; two brothers, Jerry Player of Ladson and Harold Player of Rock Hill; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and at other times at the home of his daughter, Kay Akley, 632 Buckhorn Court, Catawba.

Doris Adair

CHESTER - Miss Doris Marie Adair, 68, of 120 Lancaster St. died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Barron Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Rich officiating. Burial will be at Armenia United Methodist cemetery.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Miss Adair was a daughter of the late Otto Grady Adair and Willie Gibbons Adair. She was the director of Catawba Mental Health for 25 years and a graduate of Gaston County High School, Gardner-Webb College and Louisville Theological Seminary. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and received a heart transplant 15 years ago.

Surviving are two brothers, Grady Adair of Madeira Beach, Fla., and Jerry Adair of Tampa, Fla.; and two sisters, Geneva Hall of Columbia and Christine Lynn of Gastonia, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Debra Cagle

LANCASTER - Miss Debra Cagle, 39, of 2258 White Pine Court died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tim Larrimore, Dr. Stuart Snow and Mickey Boykin officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Miss Cagle was a daughter of the late William "Bill" Cagle and Mary Louise Snipes Cagle. She was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and was employed by Natures Corner Greenhouses.

Surviving are two sisters, Sandy Harkey and Pam Cagle, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home.

Ruth Eldridge

LAKE WATEREE - Mrs. Ruth Gardner Eldridge, 73, of 179 Morning Glow Drive, Winnsboro, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wateree Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ron Gregory and Buford Hayes officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Eldridge was a daughter of the late Gettys Gardner and Susie Bagley Gardner. She was a homemaker and member of Lake Wateree Baptist Church. She attended Great Falls schools.

Surviving are her husband John J. Eldridge, her son, Elmer Eldridge of Anderson, Ind.; her daughter, B. Starr Eldridge of Eugene, Ore.; three sisters, Velma Threatt of Columbia, Josephine Broughton of Lancaster and Peggy Hinson of Palm Springs, Fla.; two grandchildren; and her great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Nancy Wood

YORK - Mrs. Nancy Cook Wood, 91, of 2511 Wood Road died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Harold M. Hutchison officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Wood was a daughter of the late Fred G. Cook and Sara Martin Cook. She was the widow of John Wood. She was a homemaker and a member of Allison Creek Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are four sons, Joe Wood, Marion Wood and Bill Wood, all of York, and Buddy Wood of Columbia; four sisters, Mary Stephenson of Rock Hill, Mabelle Beamguard and Sara Faulkner, both of Clover, and Alice Roberts of Chester; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Allison Creek Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 5780 Allison Creek Road, York, SC, 29745.

Charles Sellers

LANCASTER - Mr. Charles Thomas Sellers, 65, of 1699 Starmount Circle died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lancaster Church of God, with the Revs. Larry Sluder, Donald Hawkins and Lacy Jones officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield, Mr. Sellers was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Julie Marie White Sellers. He was a member of Lancaster Church of God and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Mr. Sellers retired from Duke Power Company Construction.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Howard Sellers; two sons, Charles L. Sellers and Darrell E. Sellers, both of Fort Lawn; his daughter, Cynthia Lucas of Fort Lawn; three brothers, Billy Sellers of Elgin, Bobby Sellers and Mike Sellers, both of Camden; three sisters, Margie Christopher of Cave City, Ark., Dorothy Honeycutt of Lancaster and Linda Hannaman of Springfield, Va.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home.
