FORT LAWN - Mrs. Mary E. Clyburn, 86, of 5433 Crawford Road died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Cross Road Baptist Church in Kershaw, with the Rev. Ralph Friday officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Clyburn was a daughter of the late Dan Buckhannon and Minnie Buckhannon. She was the widow of John W. Clyburn. She joined White Hill Baptist Church and was later a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Clyburn and Jerry Clyburn, both of Paterson, N.J.: two daughters, Clara Miller of Paterson and Georgia Ann Blackmon of Fort Lawn; two sisters, Beatrice Railey and Nattie Jackson, both of Kershaw; 37 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Cross Road Baptist Church in Kershaw.

Jerry Gainey
FORT MILL - Mr. Jerry Woodrow Gainey, 61, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James R. Caskey officiating.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Gainey was the son of the late Woodrow Gainey and Viola Farmer Gainey. He graduated from Lancaster High School and served in the Air Force Reserves. He retired from Springs Industries and was an avid golfer at the Fort Mill Golf Club and the Lancaster Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Caskey Gainey; and his daughter, Debbie Reneé Gainey of the home.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Johnny Knight
KERSHAW - Mr. Johnny Alfred Knight, 61, of 203 N. Minor St. died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thurs-day at Kershaw Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Hogsed officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of Jefferson, Mr. Knight was the son of Margaret Knight Rowell of Lancaster and the late Ervin Alfred Knight. He retired from Bowater Inc., and was a member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church and the Fisherman's Sunday school class. He was a Mason with Abney Lodge No. 211 and a Shriner with Kershaw Shrine Club. He was a member of VFW Post No. 8990 and served in the Navy.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his brother, Jackie Knight of Florence.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC.

Elijah McSwain
ST. HELEN, Mich. - Mr. Elijah P. McSwain, 87, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Genesys Health Park.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Dryer Funeral Home in Holly, Mich., with Pastor Ed Pedley officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Holly, Mich.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. McSwain was a son of the late Elijah McSwain and Mary Price McSwain. He was a World War II veteran and was a member of Holly Lodge No. 134 F. & A.M. He retired from Grand Blanc Fisher Body.
Surviving are his son, Jerry Lucas of Holly, Mich.; three daughters, Linda Dale McSwain of Pontiac, Mich., Betty Ballard of Flint, Mich., and Ethel Durgan of Linden, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., both on Thursday, with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Donald Pope
CHESTER - Mr. Donald "Bundy" Pope, 64, of 301 Center St., Apt. 24, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at home.
A native of York County, Mr. Pope was a son of the late Walter T. Pope and Annie Blackwelder Pope. He was raised by Julia Morris Pope and the late Walter L. Pope. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked for J.P. Stevens at the Argon and Industrial Plants and Fabric Resources. He was an Army and Marine Corps veteran.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Julia M. Pope are his son, Donald Kenneth Pope of Bridge City, Texas; his daughter, Nancy Caveny of Rock Hill; his brother, Herman Pope of Rock Hill; five sisters, Mary Faulkner of Cantonment, Fla., Gail P. Barnes of Suwanee, Ga., Cheryl P. Bumgarner, Edna P. Hill and Kathy P. Smith, all of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel and other times at the home of his brother, Herman Pope, 867 Furr St., Rock Hill, SC.

Austin Swallow
LAKE WYLIE - Mr. Austin Briggs Swallow, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Charlotte.
A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at River Hills Com-munity Church, with the Rev. E. Russell Brown officiating.
A native of Providence, R.I., Mr. Swallow was a son of the late Chandler E. Swallow Sr. and Edith Vaughan Swallow. He attended Wilbraham Academy in Massa-chusetts and served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, with an honorable discharge.
He attended North Carolina State University, and received a bachelor of science degree in textiles. He studied at the graduate level at Bryant College in Providence, R.I. He worked in the narrow elastics textile business for 40 years.
Mr. Swallow received two patents from the U.S. Patent Service for the development of radar reflective material and laminated rubber and nylon for hosiery. He was active in Scouting for more than 30 years in New England, Charlotte and Lake Wylie. He was the Cubmaster for Pack 33 in Charlotte and the Scoutmaster for Troops 164 and 333 in Lake Wylie.
He was commodore of the River Hills Yacht Club and vice commodore of Lake Norman Yacht Club. He raced from Newport to Bermuda on several occasions, serving both as a crewman and cook. He worked for United Elastic in Massachusetts, Moore Fabrics in Rhode Island, Sullivan-Carson in York and Sham-rock Narrow Fabrics in Shelby, N.C. He worked in textile research, production and sales, with 40 years service.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Wishart Swallow; two sons, Austin Briggs Swallow Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Cmdr. Robert Chandler Swallow, stationed in the Arabian Gulf with the U.S. Navy; his daughter, Jane Wishart Swallow Kift of New South Wales, Australia; two brothers, Chandler E. Swallow and Richard P. Swallow; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the service.

Thomas Carter Sr.
CHESTER - Mr. Thomas Lee Carter Sr., 67, of 934 J.A. Cochran By-Pass died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., with the Rev. Bill Stringfellow Jr. and Minister Tyayre Carter officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Baptist Church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Carter was a son of the late Tom Carter and Annie Bell Foote Pendergrass. He was the stepson of the late Joe C. Pendergrass. He was the widower of Minnie Carter. He was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church and worked for the city of Chester and Sky City. He attended the public schools of Chester County.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Lee Carter Jr. and Timothy Carter, both of Wilmington, Del.; three daughters, Rovettory Carter, Shantel R. Hamilton and Joy Carter, all of Wilmington; his brother, Harold Pendergrass of Wimington; three caregivers, Maggie Peterson, Ruby Small and Robert Wilkes, all of the home; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Friday until the hour of service.

Clara Kimbrell
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Clara Morgan Kimbrell, 74, of 2377 Blossom Drive died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at home.
A chapel service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. Mickey Smith officiating. Burial will be at Grand-view Memorial Park.
A native of Greenville, Mrs. Kimbrell was a daughter of the late Ronnie Morgan and Beulah Chandler. She was the widow of B.G. "Billy" Kimbrell. She was of the Nazarene faith and retired from the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. She was a member of the Rock Hill Senior Citizens Group.
Surviving are four sons, Aaron C. Kimbrell Sr. and Gerald Kimbrell Jr., both of Rock Hill, James "Ronnie" Kimbrell of Hunker, Pa., and Terry "Wayne" Kimbrell Sr. of Fort Mill; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The body will be the home at noon today and will remain there until Friday's service.

Maggie McCullough
CHESTER - Mrs. Maggie McCullough, 72, of Honey Lane Drive in the Lewis Community died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced by Denton Funeral Home.

Willie Stevens
KERSHAW - Mr. Willie Hazel Stevens, 54, of 3733 Coates Road died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Good News Free Will Baptist Church, with the Revs. Melvin Adams and Charles Bibbles officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church cemetery.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Stevens was a son of Mary Lee Ivey Stevens and the late Willie Stevens. He was a member of Outreach Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the adult Sunday school class. He worked for Carolina Farm and Land Clearing Co.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Eliza Deas Stevens; his son, Ben Stevens of Kershaw; two brothers, James Stevens of Kershaw and Jimmy Stevens of Bethune; two sisters, Sara Starnes of Kershaw and Linda Stevens of Bethune; his stepson, Ralph E. Baker of Kershaw; and his grandson.
The body will be at the home of James Stevens, 885 Arbor Drive, Kershaw, where the family will receive friends.

Frances Poe
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances "Tank" Sadler Poe, 90, of 1330 India Hook Road died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Westminster Towers Health Care.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with Dr. Shelton P. Sanford III and Dr. William A. Fox Jr. officiating.
A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Poe was a daughter of the late Hope Sadler and Margaret Hardee Sadler. She was the widow of A. Bynum Poe. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Perihelion Book Club, Junior Welfare League and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, Alvis B. Poe Jr. of Rock Hill and H. Sadler Poe of Atlanta; her brother, Milton Sadler or Rock Hill; her sister, Margaret Sadler Copeland of Clinton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Alvis Poe and Wesley Poe, 2113 James Court.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late John Pete Holden and Lillie Matilda Barfield Holden.
Surviving are her husband, Elijah Joseph Robinson; two sons, Ron Robinson of Bandera, Texas, and Roger Robinson of Rock Hill; two daughters, Gayle Davis of Cleveland and Lila Clinton of Rock Hill; two brothers, James "Buck" Holden of Heath Springs and Charles "Gene" Holden of Kershaw; her sister, Esther Hammond of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel.

Rosetta Starr
ROCK HILL - Miss Rosetta Starr of 1102 Ebinport Road, Apt. E7, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Albert Nickles conducting the eulogy and Dr. L. L. Hancock and the Rev. Edward Garrison assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of York County, Miss Starr was a daughter of the late Robert L. Starr and Mary B. Starr. She attended public schools of York County. She graduated from Emmett Scott High School. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church. She was a domestic worker.
Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Starr of Rock Hill and Cederic E. Starr of Cheraw; her daughter, Mattie S. Roseborough of Rock Hill; five brothers, Robert L. Starr of Columbia, Jerry Starr, the Rev. Edward Starr and Howard Starr III, all of Rock Hill, and S.F.C. Ednund Starr of Fort Knox, Ky.; three sisters, Ella L. Draford of Catawba, and Ruth S. Wallace and Catherine S. Potts, both of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home and at 547 Walnut St.
The body will be placed in the church at noon Friday.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home.

Macie Anderson

Bridgeport, Conn.- Mrs. Macie Anderson, 96, formerly of New York City, of the Northbridge Nursing Home died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn.

The funeral will be noon Saturday at Hopewell United Methodist Church in York, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York, Mrs. Anderson was a daughter of the late George Anderson and Isabella McCleave Anderson. She was a retired self-employed beautician. She joined Hopewell United Methodist Church at an early age.

Surviving are her sister, Smiley Anderson of Bridgeport; and her niece and caregiver, Roena Littlejohn of Bridgeport.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hopewell United Methodist Church.
