R.L. Stacks

LANCASTER - Mr. R.L. Stacks, 74, of 465 Rock Hill Highway died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Brooks Walker officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Peachland, N.C., Mr. Stacks was a son of the late Roy Stacks and Myrtle Carnes Stacks.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Stacks; his son, Randy Stacks of Lancaster; three daughters, Mary Stacks of York, Linda Stacks of Fort Mill and Angela Faile of Lancaster; his stepson, Everett Parker of Lancaster; two stepdaughters, Janice Baker and Shirley Caskey, both of Lancaster; two brothers, Porter Stacks and Billy Ray Stacks, both of Lancaster; three sisters, Gracie Powers, Pauline McCowan and Nancy Hinson, all of Lancaster; 23 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home.

Susie Roseboro

ROCK HILL - Ms. Susie Roseboro, 99, of 1425 Todd St. died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. John McCoy officiating. The eulogy will be conducted by the Rev. B. R. Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Roseboro was a homemaker and a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. She attended schools in York County and was a member of the AP&B Society.

Surviving are her son, Jim Roseboro of Rock Hill; her daughter, Nellie Roseboro of Rock Hill; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 444 Marshall St. in Rock Hill.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge.

Joe Jones

FORT MILL ­ Mr. Joe Jones, 56, of 903 Steele St. died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Charlotte.

Arrangements will be announced by Parker Funeral Home.

Martha Stowe

FORT MILL - Miss Martha Elizabeth Stowe, 90, of 2177 Sunset Circle died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Revs. Steve Hogg and Doug Martin officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Miss Stowe was a daughter of the late William Ernest Stowe Sr. and Janie Campbell Smith Stowe. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and held a master's degree in English from Columbia University. She taught at Rock Hill High School, was YMCA secretary and was director of Johnson Hall at Winthrop College. She also served as supervisor for Winthrop Training School and received Winthrop College Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award in 1988. She served two terms as President of York County Historical Society and was instrumental in listing several Winthrop buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

Surviving are her brother, William Ernest Stowe Jr. of Charlotte, and her caregiver, Karen Merritt Sturgis of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Charles Sutlive

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Mark Sutlive, 88, of 1826 Ebenezer Road died Sat., Dec. 16, 2000, at home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, with the Revs. Dr. Charles S. Foss and Charles A. Boland officiating.

A native of Savannah, Ga., Mr. Sutlive was a son of the late William Greene Sutlive and Josephine Laffiteau Sutlive. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Savannah and attended the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. After attending Davidson College, he worked for Pittsburgh Screw and Bolt Co., later Russell, Burdsall and Ward, where he retired as southeastern sales manager. After retirement, he worked as a sales representative for Electron Microscopy Sciences and Diatome, U.S. He was a charter member of Alliance Francaise, Coastal Scottish Heritage Society and was a member of the Georgia Historical Society. He was a former member of the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., the Atlanta Athletic Club and the Savannah Golf Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Doris Louise Brabham.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Elizabeth Wilson Sadler Sutlive; his daughter, Diane Louise Sutlive of Charleston; two stepsons, Richard Samuel Sadler of Rock Hill and David Hope Sadler III of York; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the service in Lumpkin Hall.

Mary Mackins

CLOVER - Mrs. Mary C. Mackins, 56, of 201 Zion Church Road died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at True Word of God F.B.H. Church in York, with the Rev. Patricia Starr officiating. Burial will be at Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery in Clover.

Surviving are four sons, Robert Hall Jr. of Charleston, Charles Mackins of the home, James William Mackins of York and John N. Mackins of Clover; three daughters, Ruthie A. Mackins and Margaret Ann Adams, both of Clover, and Dionka Shanta Mackins of the home; her brother, William Price Hall of Gastonia, N.C.; her sister, Carrie Hall Meeks of Gastonia; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Generation Funeral Home.

Maggie Hall

CHESTER - Mrs. Maggie McCullough Hall, 72, of 1157 Honey Lane died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Baptist Church, with the Rev. C. J. Pratt officiating and the Rev. E.E. Vance assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Hall was a daughter of the late Ira McCullough and Irean Dixon McCullough. She was the widow of Marion Hall. She attended Chester County schools. A retired presser at Quality Day Cleaners of Charlotte, she was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Grant of the home; two sisters, Minnie McCullough and Winnie M. Distance, both of Baltimore; an adopted sister, Joann Hall of Rock Hill; three grandsons whom she reared, Eric Hall of Charlotte and Derrick Hall and Kelvin Grant, both of Chester; two granddaughters whom she reared, Keynocha Grant and Okeita Hall, both of the home; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed beginning at 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Alan Byrd

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Mr. Alan K. Byrd, 44, of Weston, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000.

A celebration of Mr. Byrd's life will be at the Peninsula Club at Lake Norman, N.C., from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Born in Bardstairs, England, Mr. Byrd was a son of Hank Byrd of Tega Cay and Peggy Harvey Byrd of Rock Hill. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School and Clemson University. He earned a master's degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Graduate School. He served as a U.S. Navy pilot for 12 years before joining American Airlines, for whom he flew Boeing 777s.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Robyn Russell Byrd; his brother, Dirk Byrd of Williston; his maternal grandmother, Helen Harvey of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his paternal grandmother, Ursula Byrd of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home, Rock Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2315-A Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

William Coates Sr.

KERSHAW - Mr. William Thomas Coates Sr., 88, of 3894 Old Georgetown Road died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Young and Donald Knight officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Coates was a son of the late John Montgomery Coates and Annie Hunter Coates. He is the widower of Mabel Baker Coates. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

He is survived by five sons, Hazel K. Coates, Ronnie D. Coates, John L. Coates and James V. Coates, all of Kershaw, and William T. Coates Jr. of Lugoff; five daughters, Betty Holcomb, Shirley Hunter, Annette Faile, Geraldine Truesdale, all of Kershaw, and Joan C. Johnson of Cassatt; two sisters, Alma Bowers of Kershaw and Eva C. Scotts of Camden; his half-sister, Ruby Gardner of Kershaw; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home.

Edwin Dacus Jr.

OCALA, Fla. - Edwin Eugene Dacus, Jr., 86, of Ocala, Fla., died Friday Dec. 15, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Johns United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Tim McClendon officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Dacus was the son of the late Edwin Eugene Dacus Sr. and Minnie Jane Varner Dacus. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and Clemson University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ocala and was a member of the Ocala Kiwanis Club. A World War II veteran, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey Monroe Dacus of the home; his son, Keith Dacus of Concord, N.C.; two daughters, Carolyn Alred of Valdosta, Ga., and Jane Cunningham of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Thomas Hatchett

YORK - Thomas Mikel Hatchett, 47, of 1021 Perla Road died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dallas Funeral Home Chapel in Dallas, N.C., with the Rev. Curtis Stephen Durham officiating. Burial will be at the Westview Gar-dens, Bessemer City, N.C.

A native of Peoria County, Ill., Mr. Hatchett was the son of Thomas Eli Hatchett and Marilyn Alene Duck-worth Hatchett. He was employed as a supervisor by American Metal Fabricators and was a member of Beverly Manor Missionary Baptist Church in Washington, Ill.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Tina Ann Boggs Hatchett; two sons, Shane Mikel Hatchett of Dallas, N.C., and Christopher Thomas Hatchett of Spring Hill, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Leanne King of Gastonia, N.C.; his stepson Kelvin Junior Boggs of Florence, Ky; and two sisters, Mickala Lynn Walker of Washington, Ill., and Beckey Renee Mogler of Mooresboro, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dallas Funeral Home.

Rosa Mae Nance

YORK - Rosa Mae Nance, 87, of 117 Lowry Row died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Galilee Baptist Church in York, with the Rev. Charles L. Ashley Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Clover, Mrs. Nance was a daughter of the late William Brown and Lillie Walker Brown. She was a homemaker and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

Surviving are her companion, Robert Good of the home; her daughter, Isabell B. Gary of York; her nephew whom she raised, Arthur Lee Brown of York; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Galilee Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Isabell Gary, 7 South Pacific Ave. No. 7-E, York.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home.

Bruce Oliver

PAGELAND - Mr. Bruce Oliver, 72, of Route 4, Box 361, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Twin Pines Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be at High Point Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Jefferson, Mr. Oliver was a son of the late James Oliver and Bessie Lee Oliver. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Duke Power. He was a member of Twin Pines Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Bernice M. Oliver; two sons, Glenn Oliver and Steve Catoe, both of Rock Hill; his daughter, Mary Kimbrell of Lesslie; his stepson, Franklin Lee Laney of Jefferson; two stepdaughters, Emma Jean Melton of Pageland and Brenda Cassidy of Mount Croghan; three sisters, Mary Lee Gainey of Kannapolis, N.C., Viola Sims of Great Falls and Hattie Mae Hipp of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Sutton Funeral Home in Pageland.

Miriam Rigby

MANNING - Miriam Fridy Rigby, 86, of Manning died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Steve Shugart officiating. Burial will be at Manning Cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Rigby was a daughter of the late Lloyd D. Fridy and Martha Leitner Fridy. She was a graduate of Columbia College and was a retired county agent with the Clemson Extension Service in Clarendon County. She was a member of Manning United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son Muldrow B. Rigby Jr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Judy Ferguson of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.
