Jacky Truesdale Sr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. Jacky Truesdale Sr. of 2756 S. Anderson Road died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Landsford, with the Rev. Allen Stewart officiating and the Revs. Johnny Worthy and Dr. Marian Crawford assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Truesdale was a son of the late Mell Truesdale and Christine Stinson Truesdale. He was a member of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church. He attended public schools of York County and was a carpenter.
Surviving are his son, Jacky Truesdale Jr. of York; two daughters, Mary Truesdale and Fashenia Weaver, both of York; four brothers, Melvin Truesdale and Willie Truesdale, both of Edgemoor, Floyd Truesdale of Catawba and Bobby Truesdale of Rock Hill; seven sisters, Ann Mackey, Diane Thompson and Debra Dunlap, all of Rock Hill, Mattie Mackey of Catawba, Denese Truesdale of Chester, Laverne Truesdale of Jefferson and Catherine Mackey of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The family will receive friends at 2756 South Anderson Road in Catawba.

Lewis Merritt
BELTSVILLE, MD. - Mr. Lewis Barron Merritt, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Laurel Regional Hospital.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at York Funeral Home Chapel in York, with the Rev. Danny Sipe officiating. Burial will be at Philadelphia United Methodist Church cemetery.
A native of York, Mr. Merritt was a son of the late Cephus Merritt and Catherine Schubert Merritt. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Defense. He served in the Navy during World War II and in the Coast Guard. He was a member of the American Legion in Beltsville.
Surviving are his wife, Collene Carroll Merritt; his son, Lewis Wayne Merritt of Greenbelt, Md.; three daughters, Delores Horvath of Mitchellville, Md., Luanne Merritt of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Connie Sines Brown of Great Falls, Va.; his stepson, James Miller of Bealsville, Md.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at York Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Philadelphia United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2260 Chester Hwy., York, SC 29745.

Manuel Thomas
FAITH, N.C. - Mr. Manuel Lee "Red" Thomas, 76, of 3028 Cemetery Drive died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Keith Copeland and Gene Sides officiating. Burial will be at the church Cemetery, with services conducted by Faith American Legion Post No. 327.
A native of Stanly County, N.C., Mr. Thomas was a son of the late Manuel Lee Thomas Sr. and Dora Lee Harrington Thomas. He was the widower of Doris Shutt Thomas. He worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and was retired from the maintenance department of the N.C. State High-way Patrol. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Faith American Legion Post No. 327.
Surviving are three sons, Jimmy Dean Thomas of Faith and Larry Eugene Thomas and Ricky L. Thomas, both of Salisbury; his daughter, Renee Barker of York; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at home.

Bonnie Black
YORK - Mrs. Bonnie Maxine Corbett Black, 60, of 22 Flintlock Drive died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at home.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
A native of Charlotte, Mrs. Black was a daughter of the late Charles M. Corbett Sr. and Blandina Biggers Corbett. She was the widow of Harry Lawrence Black. She was a retired sewing machine operator.
Surviving are her brother, Charles M. Corbett Jr. of Charlotte, and her sister, Joann C. Gowan of York.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her sister, Joann C. Gowan, 24 Flintlock St. in York.

Kenneth Blackwell
LANCASTER - Mr. Kenneth Harold Blackwell, 47, of 2922 University Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mitchell Ingram officiating.
A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Blackwell was a son of the late Harold William Blackwell and Geraldine Mackey Blackwell. He retired from Springs Industries and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two brothers, Jerry D. Blackwell of Lancaster and Roger D. Blackwell of Hartsville.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Edna Blanton
RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. - Mrs. Edna Conner Blanton, 95, formerly of Fort Mill, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Oakland Living Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Hooper officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Hendersonville, N.C., Mrs. Blanton was the daughter of the late Sam Conner and Hattie Lily Huntley Conner. She was the widow of Hugh Blanton Sr. She retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Hugh Blanton of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Aileen Bradley and Louise Horne, both of Fort Mill, and Lois Hooper of Forest City, N.C.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Charlie Carter
LANCASTER - Mr. Charlie P. Carter, 84, of 1874 McIlwain Road died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Douglas Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lawrence Pebbles officiating.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Carter was a son of the late John Thomas Carter and Mabry Isabel Cauthen Carter. He retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Douglas Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Almetta W. Carter; his daughter, Anne C. Anderson of Columbia; and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at home.

John Hurst
LANCASTER - Mr. John Wayne Hurst, 31, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.
Arrangements will be announced by Hartley Funeral Home.

Josephine Parker
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josephine C. Parker of 941 Ogden Road died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at home.
Arrangements will be announced by Macon's Mortuary Inc. in Rock Hill.

James Cook
LANCASTER - Mr. James Clifton Cook, 72, of 3050 Old Camden Hwy. died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Happy Home Baptist Church in Conway.
A native of Aynor, Mr. Cook was a son of the late Roy Benjamin and Iona Mae Coates Cook. He retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Cook; four sons, Danny Cook, William Cook and Cecil Cook, all of Lancaster, and Sam Cook of Fort Lawn; three daughters, Shirley Norris of Aynor, Sara Lynn Cook of Lake View and Dora Jane Lucas of Kershaw; three brothers, Jesse Cook of Aynor, Palmer Cook of Lancaster and Geroy Cook of Conway; his sister, Irene Johnson of Aynor; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Danny and Alice Cook, 1769 Old Hillside Drive, Lancaster.
Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Diane Garvin
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Ms. Diane Frederick Garvin of 360 Retnuh Drive, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. S.E. Tyndall officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
A native of Chester, Ms. Garvin was a daughter of Bertha Frederick of Chester. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She graduated from Barbara-Scotia College and retired from Lucent Technologies, formerly A.T.&T.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her son, Artis Garvin of Charlotte; her daughter, Stacey Scott of Charlotte; three brothers, Willie Frederick and Wiley Frederick, both of Chester, and Sylvester Frederick of Chesapeake, Va.; and five sisters, Louise Alford of Roselle, N.J., Mathenia Brown of Brentwood, Md., Yvonne Littlejohn of Spartanburg and Sarah Darby and Bernice Wilkes, both of Chester.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service and at home.
The body may be viewed from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Douthit Visitation Center, 2920 Greenway Ave., and at the church until the hour of service.

Flora Hawkins
ROCK HILL - Ms. Flora Hawkins of 1266 Chandler Drive died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. E. E. Vance officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of York County, Ms. Hawkins was a daughter of the late Bennie Lee Hawkins and Essie Mae Meeks Hawkins. She was a former member of United AME Zion Church in Fort Mill, where she sang in the choir and was an usher. She graduated from Ashebrook High School in Gastonia, N.C., and York Technical College.
Surviving are two daughters, Alicia Hawkins and Ursa Hawkins, both of the home; six brothers, Roy Lee Hames and Woodrow "Buddy" Hames, both of Trenton, N.J., Harold Brown of Youngstown, Ohio, Tommy Hawkins of Peoria, Ariz., and Billy Hawkins and Rufus Hawkins, both of Gastonia; and her sister, Juda Mae Hawkins Walker of Charlotte.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home.

James Moss
CHARLOTTE - Mr. James E. Moss, 72, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Mercy Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Steve Disher officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
A native of Clover, Mr. Moss was a son of the late Jason Moss and Florence Pruitt Moss.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Moss of Charlotte, two sons, Timothy Moss and Chris Moss, both of Charlotte; his daughter, Tracy Moss of Charlotte; his brother, Floyd Moss of Clover; and his sister, Ollie Dover of Clover.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Sammie Dunham
ROCK HILL - Mr. Sammie Lee Dunham of 9514 China Grove Church Road died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Sinclair General Hospital in New York City.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Tabernacle AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Johnny Worthy officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of York County, Mr. Dunham was a son of Anna Dunham of Pineville, N.C. He attended Mount Bethel Baptist Church in New York. He attended the public schools of York County.
The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Joey Kyle
MCCONNELLS - Mr. Joey Kyle, 43, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Mercy Hospital South in Pineville, N.C.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Dan Griffin officiating.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Mr. Kyle was a son of James E. Kyle and Lexie Lankford Kyle, both of Fort Mill. He attended the public schools of Fort Mill. He was an automobile mechanic at Harrelson Toyota in Rock Hill.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Angie Parsons Kyle; his son, Will Kyle of the home; and his sister, Elaine McCutcheon of Fort Mill.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister, Elaine McCutcheon, 208 Brookside Drive, Fort Mill.

Priscilla Montgomery
BLACKSBURG - Ms. Priscilla Victoria Montgomery, 52, of 116 Norman Lake Road died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Smyrna Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Lail officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Gaffney, Ms. Montgomery was a daughter of the late Carwell Scott Westmoreland Sr. and Lois Bratton Westmoreland. She was a member of Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ in Rock Hill. She was a waitress.
Surviving are her daughter, Tonya Moore of Blacksburg; her son, Bobby Shane Blackwell of Rock Hill; her brother, Carwell Scott Westmoreland Jr. of Rock Hill; two sisters, Linda Wolfenbarger and Glenda Diaz, both of Rock Hill; and her granddaughter.
The body may be viewed at the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Gordon Mortuary and at their respective homes.
