Wilbur Clinton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Wilbur Nolan "Bill" Clinton, 83, of 727 Ragin Lane died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dr. W. Timothy McClendon and Michael Ritter officiating.

A native of Edgemoor, Mr. Clinton was a son of the late William Nolan Clinton and Irene Fudge Clinton. He retired from Mobay Chemical Co. and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He served in the 182nd Army Air Corp. in North Africa, Sicilia and Italy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post 34 and the Veterans of Foreign War.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Buford Clinton; his son, William Hal Clinton of Potomac, Md.; his daughter, Brenda Clinton Dunlap of Rock Hill; his sister, Gilbert Sturgis of Columbia; and three grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home Rock Hill Chapel and at other times at home.

Clyde Carswell

CATAWBA - Mr. Clyde Elliott Carswell, 63, of 735 Wild Wood Creek Trail died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Fort Mill Church of God, with the Rev. David Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Rutherfordton, N.C. Mr. Carswell was a son of the late Hubert Cars-well and Novella Tate Carswell. He was owner of Carswell Bakery in Rock Hill.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Johnson Carswell of Catawba; three sons, Clyde Edward Carswell of Belmont, N.C., James Elliott Carswell of Rock Hill and Timothy Wayne Carswell of Fort Mill; his daughter, Kathy Carswell Bell of Clayton, N.C.; his brother, Kenneth Carswell of Fort Mill; two sisters, Ann Wilson of York and Betty Trull of Fort Mill; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at home.

John Brayboy

CHARLOTTE - Mr. John A. Brayboy, 69, died Thursday, March 8, 2001.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Life Church Assembly of God, 3330 Margaret Wallace Road.

A native of Fairmont, N.C., Mr. Brayboy was a Korean War veteran and was the owner of Public Tree Service.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Pat Brayboy; two sons, Larry Brayboy and Brian Brayboy; two daughters, Leslie Brayboy Walls and Saralyn Brayboy Knowles; and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Life Church Assembly of God, 3330 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105.

McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel, is in charge.

John Ledbetter Sr.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Mr. John David Ledbetter Sr., 75, of 610 Mica St. died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiating. Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Veterans Gardens in Kings Mountain, N.C.

A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Ledbetter was a son of the late Tom William and Macie Ramsey Ledbetter. He was a member of the American Legion and was a charter member of the Shelby DAV. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the textile industry.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Hicks Ledbetter of Kings Mountain, N.C.; two sons, John David Ledbetter Jr. of Grover, N.C. and Dennis Ledbetter of Kings Mountain, N.C.; his daughter, Sheila Ledbetter Dallas of Grand Rapids, Mich.; six brothers, James Ledbetter, Harvey Ledbetter, Tommy Ledbetter and Marvin Ledbetter, all of Rock Hill, David Ledbetter of Grover, N.C., Daniel Ledbetter of Statesville, N.C.; six sisters, Bertha Henson of Kings Mountain, Shirley White of Patterson Springs, N.C., Wilma Parker of Monroe, N.C., Louise Moss and Carolyn Henson, both of Rock Hill and Gearldine Robinson of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, N.C.

Pernilla Johnson

CHESTER - Mrs. Pernilla Smith Johnson, 95, of 232 Ligon St. died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Hope officiating and the Rev. John Heath assisting. Burial will be at St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Halseville.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late David Smith and Agnus Carter Smith. She was the widow of Mackwell Johnson. She was a retired school teacher and attended the public schools of Chester County. She taught school in Chester and Fairfield Counties. She was a graduate of Benedict College and received her master's degree from A&T College. She was a member of Josephus Chapter No. 160, Order of Eastern Stars and Heronies Jerchio. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Zeta of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and was a member of Treasure of Sandy River Lower Division Association. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was Missionary, mother of church, a choir member and was a former church clerk and deaconess.

Surviving are her sister, Augusta S. Head of Los Angeles, Calif.; her caregivers, Juanita Carter and Doris Carter, both of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight with Eastern Star rites at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. in Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at King's Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Shawna Knox

ATHENS, Ga. - Ms. Shawna Lafaye Knox, 26, formerly of Great Falls, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Timothy Baptist Church in Athens, Ga., with Evangelist Joyce Heard officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Athens, Ga.

A native of Statesville, N.C., Ms. Knox was a daughter of Sandra Jean Knox of Athens, Ga. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1992.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Kyrie Knox and Devonte Knox, both of Athens, Ga.; four daughters, Sakeena Howze, Takiera Howze, Ikiesa Knox and Kiosha Knox, all of Athens, Ga.; her brother, Chadrick Knox of Athens, Ga. ; her sister, Tanya Knox of Athens, Ga.

The family will receive friends at home.

Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home, Athens, Ga., is in charge.

Larry Rice

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Larry Michael Rice, 41, of the Pearidge Community died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls, with the Rev. David Rice officiating. Burial will be at Elizabeth Heights Cemetery in Great Falls.

A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Rice was a son of George Sanders of Winnsboro and Leatha Beaty Sanders of Great Falls. He attended Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Winnsboro. He graduated from Mitford School in Fairfield County. He was formerly employed with Douglas Inter-national Airport and was a construction worker for Oliver Paving.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Pam Hicklin of Great Falls; four sons, Michael Rice Jr., Hykeem Rice and Tirelle Rice, all of Great Falls, and Carlos Simmons of Winnsboro; four daughters, Hope Rice, Nikki Rice, Dekendra Rice and Julnevia Rice, all of Great Falls; seven brothers, Bobby George Rice of Great Falls, Walter Beaty of Chester, Tony Beaty of Houston, Texas, Corey Beaty of Blackstock, Abraham Beaty and Travis Beaty, both of Great Falls and John Rice of Lancaster; three sisters, Gwenevere Evans and Maggie Beaty, both of Great Falls and Katherine Edwards of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls and other times at the home of his mother, Leatha B. Sanders of the Pearidge Community in Great Falls.

GREAT FALLS - Infant Nicholas Antonio Cedeno Jr. died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
Arrangements will be announced by Washington Funeral Home.

ROCK HILL - Inez Acuff Davis, 82, of Sterling House of Rock Hill, 1920 Ebenezer Road, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Park United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tenn., with the Rev. Mark Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.
A native of Maynard, Tenn., Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late Sevier Acuff and Nancy Farmer Acuff. She was the widow of James A. "Jim" Davis. She was a member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
Surviving are her son, Matt Davis of Rock Hill; her daughter, Marty Lawson of Decatur, Ala.; her brother, Robert Acuff of Knoxville; her sister, Frankie Whitaker of Knoxville; three grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mynatt Funeral Home, 2829 Rennoe Road in Knoxville.

Grace Kell
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Grace Robinson Kell, 76, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Banks Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, N.C., with the Rev. Scott Hilborn officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Clover, Mrs. Kell was a daughter of the late William Rufus Robinson and Bessie Currence Robinson. She was the widow of James Alexander Robinson. She was a graduate of Carolina Business School. She was a member of Banks Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Providence Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane Kell Privette of Fort Mill and Perry Kell Smith of Huntersville, N.C.; two sisters, Lois R. Drennan of Clover and E. Pauline Robinson of York; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the services in the church education building. The family also will be at the home of Rena and Drew White, 10115 Elmsbrook Lane, Fort Mill.

BALTIMORE - Mr. John Mayfield, formerly of Chester, died Thursday, March 8, 200l.

Lorraine Mroz
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lorraine Sweet Mroz, 82, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Wednesday, March, 7, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A graveside service was Friday at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort.
A native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Mrs. Mroz was a daughter of the late Roy Sweet and Ruth Kline Sweet. She was the widow of Leo S. Mroz. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sons, James L. Mroz of Rock Hill and Michael R. Mroz of Georgia; four sisters, Marian, Lois, Ruth and Helen; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel is in charge.

Carolyn Platt
COLUMBIA - Mrs. Carolyn Bynum Platt died Friday, March 9, 2001.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Herman Robert Yoos officiating. A private burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
A native of Darlington, Mrs. Platt was a daughter of the late Frank B. Bynum Sr. and Elva Harrington Bynum. She was the widow of A. W. Platt Jr. She attended Columbia College and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Mary Circle of The W.E.L.C.A. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club of Columbia.
Surviving are her son, Dr. Albert Wyman Platt III of Rock Hill; two daughters, Carol P. Hines of Ridgeway and Susan P. Hall of Columbia; her brother, the Rev. F. Bundy Bynum Jr. of Winnsboro; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
