Myrtle Knight
LANCASTER - Mrs. Myrtle Hammond Knight, 87, of 1104 Flamingo Road died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Union Baptist Church, with the Rev. Doug Humphries officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Knight was a daughter of the late Raleigh Hammond and Elsie Williams Hammond. She was the widow of Roy Canson Knight. She retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Union Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Serena Gardner, Lucille Barfield and Iris Terry, all of Lancaster; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church Building Fund, 5003 Taxahaw Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

John Mayfield
BALTIMORE - Mr. John Mayfield, formerly of the Leeds Community in Chester County, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Red Hill Baptist Church in Chester, with the Rev. Roosevelt Adams officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Mayfield was a son of the late Dodson Mayfield and Sarah Gregory Mayfield. He was baptized at Red Hill Baptist Church. He graduated from Chester County public schools and joined the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Baltimore.
Surviving are six nieces and four nephews.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

Carole Bell
ROCK HILL - Ms. Carole Campfield Bell, 62, of 238 Pointe Circle died Monday, March 19, 2001, at home.
A native of Rock Hill, Ms. Bell was a daughter of the late Roy W. Campfield Sr. and Mildred Nanny Campfield.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. A 1956 graduate of Rock Hill High School, Ms. Bell attended Winthrop College and the College of Commerce. She formerly worked for Rock Hill National Bank, C&S Bank and retired from NationsBank. She was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies and the Junior Welfare League and was past president of Old Pointe Homeowners Association.
Surviving are her son, Donald Jefferson "Jeff" Bell Jr. of Rock Hill; two daughters, Wesley Phaup Hughes of Rock Hill and Tracy Bell Johnson of Newport, N.C.; her brother, Dr. Roy W. Campfield Jr. of Missoula, Mont.; her sister, Jackie C. Clark of Denver, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and at other times at 238 Pointe Circle.

Hubert Cauthen
ROCK HILL - Mr. Hubert Boxtel Cauthen, 91, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Claude Dick officiating and the Rev. Bill Shytle assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Heath Springs, Mr. Cauthen was a son of the late Martin Odis Cauthen and Irene Mobley Cauthen. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He was a member and deacon of White Street Baptist Church, now called Park Ridge Baptist Church.
Surviving are his son, William Cauthen of Rock Hill; two daughters, Martha Short and Joyce Cauthen, both of Rock Hill; his brother, Robert O. Cauthen of Rock Hill; his sister, Frances Baker of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Martha Short, 949 Pearson Drive.

Julious Foote Jr.
CHESTER - Mr. Julious Foote Jr., 77, of 5579 Woods Ferry Road in the Wilksburg community in Chester County died Friday, March 16, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Foote was a son of the late Julious Foote Sr. and Callie Woods Foote. He was the widower of Frances L. Sanders Foote. He was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church and AP&B Society No. 17. He attended the public schools of Chester County and was a retired construction worker.
Surviving are his wife, Frances L. Foote; five sons, Julious Foote III and John DeakFoote, both of Carlisle, Harrison Foote of Florida, Leroy Worthy of Union and Ronnie Carter of Chester; three daughters, Dorothy Crank and Celeste Mayfield, both of Carlisle, and Mary Worthy of Chester; two sisters, Ella F. Wilkes and Annie M. Worthy, both of Carlisle; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to noon today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today.

Elvin Hall
ROCK HILL - Mr. Elvin Hugh Hall, 90, of 549 Orchard Lane died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Sam Harris Sr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. Sam "Bozzie" Harris Sr., 72, of 392 Porter Road died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Beverly Health Care.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Weeping Mary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Chisolm officiating and the Rev. Hattie Foster assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of York County, Mr. Harris was a son of Ada Harris and the late Sam Spenser Harris. He attended public schools in York County. He retired from Winthrop College as a sheet metal worker. He was a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, hymn choir leader and a former usher.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Margaret M. Harris of Rock Hill; his son, Sam Harris Jr. of Rock Hill; three brothers, Lonnie Harris, Jerry Harris and Robert Harris, all of Rock Hill; three sisters, Doretha Isom, Darlene Page and Sallie Mae Harris, all of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.

Robert James
ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Marshall James, 71, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at McEwen Derita Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Ronald Case officiating. Burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
A native of Monroe, N.C., Mr. James was a son of the late Thomas C. James and Perlena Thomas James. He was a retired truck driver for Overnite Transportation, with 17 years of service. He was a member of Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church and the Richburg Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Irene McCarver James; four sons, Rodger James of Gaffney, Danny James and Tommy James, both of Stanley, N.C., and Michael James of Chester; two daughters, Vickie Blackwelder of Charlotte and Sherry Case of Marshville, N.C.; his brother, Charles James of Monroe; his sister, Doris McMillen of Monroe; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home Derita Chapel.

Arlin Knight Jr.
LANCASTER - Mr. Arlin Armfield Knight Jr., 61, of Lancaster died Monday, March 19, 2001.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at the Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. N.J. Neely officiating.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Knight was a son of the late Arlin Armfield Knight and Willie Mae Stacks Knight. He was an electrician at Springs Industries and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jason Knight and Ronnie Knight, both of Lancaster; two daughters, Teresa Smith and Tammy Hammond, both of Lancaster; two sisters, Myrtle Halley and Doris Ray, both of Lancaster; his brother, Charles Knight of Fort Mill; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Phillip and Tammy Hammond, 2011 Camp Creek Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 West Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720 or to Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Steven Pursley
COLUMBIA - Mr. Steven Edward Pursley, 38, died Sunday, March 18, 2001.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steven Lorimer officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Ohio, Mr. Pursley was a son of Joyce Pursley of Fort Mill and the late Charles Pursley. He was a 1985 graduate of Winthrop College, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi. He was treasurer of the Greater Columbia Winthrop University Alumni Association. He was vice president of finance with Southern Plastics Co. in Columbia. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Corey Russell of Columbia; his daughter, Kate Pursley of Columbia; his brother, Doug Pursley of Greenville; and his sister, Brenda Williams of Charlotte.

Ponce Strickland
EVERGREEN, N.C. - Mr. Ponce DeLeon "Pete" Strickland, 69, of Haynes-Lennon Highway died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Baptist Church, with the Rev. Elmore Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
A native of Columbus County, N.C., Mr. Strickland was a son of the late Everett Homsey Strickland and Neppie Burnece Coleman Strickland. He was the widower of Virginia Faulk Strickland. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the DAV Chapter No. 35 in Whiteville, N.C., where he served as service officer for the chapter.
Surviving are two sons, Randy L. Strickland of Greer and Andy G. Strickland of Lancaster; his daughter, Tammy S. Bernard of Rock Hill; four sisters, Betty Jean Buffkin of Pineville, N.C., Shirley Strickland and Millie S. Spivey, both of Fair Bluff, and Rhonda Strickland of Whiteville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Hubert Cauthen
ROCK HILL - Mr. Hubert Cauthen, 91, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Hugh Henry
AIKEN - Mr. Hugh Elmer Henry, 74, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Aiken, with the Rev. Jonathan Van Deventer and Dr. Bill Johnston officiating. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Old Purity Cemetery in Chester.
A native of Chester, Mr. Henry was a son of the late Albert T. Henry and Louise Carpenter Henry. He graduated from Erskine College and was a chemist at the Savannah River Site for 37 years. He was a member of the Erskine College Alumni Association and received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for service to mankind in 1952. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a former science teacher at Chamberlain Hunt Academy in Port Gibson, Miss. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was the president of the Old Purity Society. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Aiken, where he was deacon, a Sunday school teacher and was in the choir.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Alma Dickson Henry; two daughters, Caron Temples of North Myrtle Beach and Lisa Rumford of Rock Hill; his brother, William J. Henry of Fort Mill; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave. S.W., Aiken.

Elvin Hall
ROCK HILL - Mr. Elvin Hugh Hall, 90, of 549 Orchard Lane died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Hogg officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Cadiz, Ky., Mr. Hall was a son of the late Henry Hall and Beulah Faulkner Hall. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill and was educated in Cadiz. He was former owner of E.H. Hall Construction Co. and later Hall-McGowin in Greenville, Miss. He built schools, churches and commercial buildings for many years. During World War II, he helped to build Army camps in the United States. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville for 48 years, where he was a deacon. He was a member and past president of the Mississippi Chapter of American General Contractors Association and was a longtime member of Rotary International.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Weems Hall; three daughters, Hughlene H. Lucas of Rock Hill, Brenda H. Teppig of Mount Airy, Md., and Julia H. Booth of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; his sister, Mary Grace Poe of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.
