Debra Melton
FORT MILL - Mrs. Debra Wilson Melton, 45, of 421 Lancaster Estates died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel, in Indianapolis with the Rev. Ted Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Park West Cemetery.
A native of Indianapolis, Mrs. Melton was a daughter of William R. Wilson and the late Ruth E. Games. She was a homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Donald Melton; her son, Joseph Standish, her daughter, Holly Curtis; two sisters, Terri Myers and Linda Byrley; her brother, Danny Wilson; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel, in Indianapolis.
Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Willie Thomas Sr.
CARLISLE - Mr. Willie Mack Thomas Sr., of 719 Thomas Road died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Coleman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Thomas was a son of the late John "Capp" and Cora Lyles Thomas. He attended Fairfield County Schools and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the American Legion and a member of Acacia Lodge No. 32 of the Masonic Order. He was owner and founder of Thomas Logging and was the widower of the late Naomi Feaster.
Surviving are five sons, Willie M. Thomas, Jr. of Frederick, Md., Tony Thomas, Melvin Hennis Thomas and Edwin Feaster, all of Chester, and Jimmy Thomas of the home; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state at the church Monday from noon until the hour of the service.
Viewing will be 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester. Masonic rites will be performed at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at the home, and at the home of his son Melvin Hennis Thomas, 1755 Pressley Road, Chester.

Bobby Benfield
ROCK HILL - Mr. Bobby Gene Benfield, 67, of 1304 Deas Street died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at home.
A graveside service will be held
3 p.m. today at New Hope United Methodist Church in Chester, with the Rev. Thurman Johnson officiating.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Benfield was a son of the late Willie and Athalee Allen Benfield. He was retired from Star Paper Tube.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Couick Benfield; his son, Michael Benfield of Florence; two stepsons, Hazel E. Brown of Okinawa, Japan, and Jeffrey Brown of York; his stepdaughter, Annette Hubbard of Rock Hill; 12 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.

Wilma Wilkes
FORT MILL - Mrs. Wilma Miller Wilkes, 80, of 115 Epps Road died Friday, April 13, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Saint Paul Baptist Church in Lowers, with the Rev. Bobby Featherstone officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of York County, Mrs. Wilkes was a daughter of the late Eli and Minnie Cureton Miller. She was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the hymn choir, a missionary, a member of the AP&B Society No.8, and was a Worthy Matron for 14 years of the Peep of Day O.E.S. No.124. She was the widow of the late Robert L. Wilkes.
Surviving are three brothers, Benjamin Miller of Baltimore, Hosea Miller of Charlotte and John Henry Miller of Rock Hill; and three sisters, Grace M. Neal of Charlotte, Janie M. Wallace of Fort Mill and Alice M. Gilmore of Rock Hill.
The body will lie in state one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends
7 to 8 tonight at Clemons Funeral Home.

Saul Gore
CHESTER - Mr. Saul Gore of the Chester County Nursing Center, died Friday, April 13, 2001.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Prospect Baptist Church, with Pastor George Sims and the Rev. A.A. Bankhead officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Mr. Gore was a son of the late Richard Gore and Marie Carter Gore. He attended the public schools of Chester County. He was a former member of Brown Chapel AME Zion Church and a member of Mount Prospect Baptist Church.
Surviving are a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The body, which may be viewed will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, will lie in state from noon until the service Tuesday.
The family will receive friends at the home of Sallie P. Gore, 2761-A Pilgrim Road in the Wilksburg community.

Charlotte Martin
SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Charlotte Ann Powell Martin, 78, of Magnolia Manor in Inman died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Hopewell Baptist Church in Sharon, with the Rev. Raymond Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of York County, Mrs. Martin was a daughter of the late William "Will" James and Elmira Kirkpatrick Powell. She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Rock Hill Convalescent Center.
Surviving are her son, Wallace L. Cole of South Hill, Mich.; two daughters, Phyllis A. Taylor of Irvington, N.J., and Dilsey C. King of Moore; her brother, Billy J. Powell of Sharon; two sisters, Inez Hames of Sharon and Frances E. Pratt of Nyack, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Dilsey C. King, 107 South Pointe Road in Moore, and at the home of Billy J. Powell, 2422 Powell Drive in Sharon.

Ola Matthew
DUNCAN - Mrs. Ola Wilson Matthew, 100, formerly of Hwy. 29 died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Spartanburg.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Wood Mortuary, with the Rev. Neal Heller officiating. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.
A native of Spartanburg County, Mrs. Matthew was a daughter of the late Ella Wilson. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was the widow of Fred Matthew.
Surviving are her daughter, Margie Mitchem of Wellford; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today at Wood Mortuary.
The families are at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 101 Calvary St., Greer, SC 29650.

Ruthe Metzger
LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Ruthe Craig Metzger, 77, of 4 Cove Road, River Hills Plantation, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, with Father Donald Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Quidnesset Memorial Cemetery in North Kingsdown, R.I..
A native of Hamden, Conn., Mrs. Metzger was a daughter of the late Clayton James and Addie Jacobsen Craig. She attended Katherine Gibbs School in Boston and Wellesley College. During WWII, she worked at the Tenacre School in Wellesley, Mass. She volunteered for the PTA in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, the Girl Scouts, the Toledo Symphony, the Syracuse Symphony and the Wellesley Club. She was actively involved in Republican politics and served as a campaign volunteer. She was the widow of the late Robert A. Metzger Sr.
Surviving are her son, Robert A. Metzger Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three daughters, Merrill Wiechmann of Farmington, Conn., Elizabeth "Betsy" Baker of Asheville, N.C., and Susan Mislick of Downington, Penn.; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service and after the service at the church.

CHESTER - Mr. Gerry Robbins Sr., 38, of 524 Gardendale Circle died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Mary Ross
CATAWBA - Mrs. Mary Frances Davis Ross, 64, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at home.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Ross was a daughter of the late Horace N. Davis Jr. and Frances Lee Davis.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Ross; two sons, E. Thomas Daniels Jr. and Thomas N. Ross, both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Kim Brechtel of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

James Alvis
MOULTON, Ala. - Mr. James Alvis, 52, of 255 County Road died Monday, April 16, 2001 at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Todd Evans officiating.
A native of Lawrence County, Ala., Mr. Alvis was a son of Hazelle Marie Alvis of Moulton, Ala., and the late Milton Kilgoar. He was a member of a Baptist church, and was a member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local No. 1.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Victoria Alvis; his son, James Randall Alvis of Rock Hill; three daughters, Trina Hunter and Tammy Alvis, both of Rock Hill, and Kimberly Alvis of Tampa, Fla.; his brother, John R. Alvis of Smithville, Va.; four sisters, Janie Miller of Trinity, Ala., and Mary Katherine Johnson, Joyce Lee Williams and Linda Kaye Morris, all of Little Rock, Ark.; two stepsons, David Chitwood of Candler, N.C., and James Chitwood of Newberry; his stepdaughter, Kelly Chitwood of Newberry; six grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

James White
YORK - Mr. James White, 89, of 220 California St. died Friday, April 13, 2001, in Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Anthony Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Uniondale Cemetery in York.
A native of McConnells, Mr. White was a son of the late Frances White and Richard Burris. He was a retired farmer. He joined Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age.
Surviving are his daughter, Evelyn McCorkle of Charlotte; his niece and caregiver, Joni Mitchell of Gastonia, N.C.; his granddaughter whom he raised, Frances White McCoy of Rock Hill; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

Martha McConnell
BALTIMORE - Mrs. Martha Price McConnell, 60, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Epworth United Methodist Church in Baltimore, with the Rev. Horace Wallace officiating and the Rev. Frazier Feaster assisting. Burial will be at King's Memorial Park in Woodlawn, Md.
A native of Chester County, Mrs. McConnell was a daughter of Eula Young Price of Baltimore and the late Mack Price. She was a member of Sweet Hope Baptist Church and attended Epworth United Methodist Church and St. Luke's Baptist Church. She retired from Baltimore Department of Social Service.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Johnny McConnell; her son, Daren McConnell of Baltimore; her daughter, Nichelle McConnell of Baltimore; three brothers, Sammie L. Price, Donald Price and Clenzo Price, all of Chester; two sisters, Gloria Means and Ola Feaster, both of Baltimore; and her grandchild.
The family will receive friends from10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at Epworth United Methodist Church, St. Lukes Lane and Liberty Road, Baltimore.

Sarah Brock
STAUNTON, Va. - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Pate Brock, 88, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at August Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill.
A native of Robeson County, N.C., Mrs. Brock was a daughter of the late William Alexander and Hattie E. Thompson Pate. She was the widow of Wade Hampton Brock.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Brock of Rock Hill and Keller Brock of Winchester, Va.; her daughter, Sarah Nichols of Staunton, Va.; her sister, Carrie Baker of Sanford, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 15great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel.
