ROCK HILL - Mr. Clarence Edward Brown, 86, of 327-B N. Jones Ave. died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Napier officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Mason Brown and Jo Anna Pharr Brown. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and former deacon. He retired from Highland Park Mills, with more than 33 years service.
Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 318 N. Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel is in charge.

Archie Gordon
ROCK HILL - Mr. Archie Gordon, 65, died in York.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Sanford Moree officiating.
A native of York County, Mr. Gordon was a son of the late Joseph Gordon and Sallie Chapman Gordon. He served in the Marine Corps and was a loom fixer at Springs Industries.
Surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Elizabeth Mills of Marshville, N.C.; four sons, Gregory Keith Gordon of Rock Hill, Timothy Elliott Gordon of Lake Wylie, Christopher Archie Gordon of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark Hunter Gordon of North Carolina; his sister, Alice Price of Monroe, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends after the service.

Gaynelle McWatters
CHESTER - Mrs. Gaynelle Love McWatters, 64, of 3380 Center Road died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jody Foster and Drs. Clyde Mitchum and Jim McGill officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mrs. McWatters was a daughter of the late David Alexander Love and Maude Ham Love. She worked with the FBI in Washington, D.C., from 1956 to 1961. She was the retired owner and operator of "The Flower Place" in Rock Hill. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and formerly served as elder. She graduated from Chester High School.
Surviving are her husband, Robert M. "Bob" McWatters Sr.; her son, Robert M. McWatters Jr. of Rock Hill; four sisters, Lois L. Ferguson and Doris L. Bowlware, both of Chester, Grace L. Litchfield of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Lynda L. Self of Kernersville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Betty Wolfe
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Betty Mitchell Wolfe, 71, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, N.C.
A memorial service will be 7 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Tomlinson officiating.
A native of Laurens, Mrs. Wolfe was a daughter of the late Andrew D. Mitchell Sr. and Mittie Burton Mitchell. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church and the National Education Association. She was a 1948 graduate of Winthrop College and taught in the Rock Hill school district for 33 years, with 20 years at Ebenezer Avenue Elementary School. She was the widow of Elliott H. Wolfe Sr.
Surviving are her son, Elliott H. Wolfe Jr. of Pauline; her daughter, Deborah "Debbie" W. Jones of Concord; two brothers, Robert H. Mitchell of Laurens and Andrew "David" Mitchell of Tennessee; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service until 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Margie Wyatt
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margie Neal Wyatt, 70, of 3978 Palmetto Drive died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at India Hook United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William F. Heustess officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
A native of Fort Mill, Mrs. Wyatt was a daughter of Rebecca McManus Neal and the late Walter A. Neal. She was a member of India Hook United Methodist Church and was a former member of the youth council. She retired as office manager at Southland Corp. in Charlotte. She was a member of Travelers Protective Association.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Bob Neil Wyatt; three sons, Bobby Wyatt and Jimmy Wyatt, both of Rock Hill, and Walter Wyatt of Lancaster; her daughter, Shelby W. Wood of Jupiter, Fla.; her brother, Walter D. Neal of Rock Hill; four sisters, Peggy Jo Rogers of Fort Mill, Annette Porter of Sumter and Vivian Sue Patterson and Dianne Waldrop, both of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to India Hook United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 3300 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Glenn Barrentine
CATAWBA - Mr. Glenn Thomas Barrentine, 50, of 4303 Cureton Ferry Road died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be noon Thursday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Parrish officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
A native of Marion, Mr. Barrentine was a son of the late Larry Sweat and Vera B. Sweat. He was of the Baptist faith and worked at Fort Mill Chrysler, Plymouth Dodge.
Surviving are four brothers, Herman Barrentine of Fort Mill, Darrell Barrentine of York, James Barrentine of Charlotte and Michael Sweat of Statesville, N.C.; and his sister, Joyce Ann Taylor of Statesville, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Terry Baker
CHESTER - Mr. Terry Dean Baker, 39, of 161 Harris St. died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. Kenny Compton officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Baker was a son of Lewis L. Baker and Betty Cook Baker.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Christopher Dean Baker of Chester; his daughter, Pamela Renee Dean Baker of Chester; his brother, Billy Lamar Baker of Chester; four sisters, Judy Clinton, Diane Ferrell and Deborah Mitchum, all of Rock Hill and Dorothy Melton of Spartanburg; and his grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and other times at the home of his sister, 1036 Deer Track Drive, Rock Hill.

Gary Broadbent
HAMPTON, Va. - Mr. Gary Robert Broadbent, 45, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
A memorial service will be 7 tonight at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David W. Burgess officiating. Inurnment will be at Hollywood Memorial Park, in Union, N.J.
A native of Union, Mr. Broadbent was a son of Ruth W. Broadbent of North Myrtle Beach and the late John Broadbent Jr. He worked as a technician for Cox Communications in Hampton. He served in the U.S. Navy with the Norfolk Atlantic Fleet on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1984 to 1996.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his sister, Carolyn Gail Broadbent of Totowa, N.J.; his brother, Jack Broadbent of Rock Hill; and his special friend, Kimberly Hawks of Hampton.

Grace Gilbert
GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Grace Goins Ballew Gilbert, 82, of 101 Garrison St. died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gaston Memorial Park, with the Rev. Michael Newton officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Gilbert was a daughter of the late John Tillman and Rena Ghent Goins. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her son, Michael Ballew of Belmont, N.C.; three daughters, Barbara Beam of Rock Hill, Geraldine Cloninger of Dallas, N.C., and Martha Harvell of Bes-semer City, N.C.; her sister, Eula Mae Faulkner of Gastonia; her stepdaughter, Carol Martin of Gastonia; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Service Southside Chapel.

Robert Leigh
FORT MILL - Mr. Robert Guy Leigh, 66, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, with the Rev. David Douglas officiating.
A native of Woodbridge, N.J., Mr. Leigh was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired marketing manager at The Autoups Co.
Surviving are his fiancee, Bernice Welch of Charlotte; two sons, Guy Robert Leigh of Jamison, Pa., and Scott Richard Leigh of Richmond, Va.; his brother, Douglas Leigh of Springfield, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at McEwen Funeral Home.

Nelma Mauldin
SENECA - Mrs. Nelma P. Mauldin, 66, of 100 Willow Creek Circle, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
The committal service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Old Stone Church cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Clemson.
A native of Clemson, Mrs. Mauldin was a daughter of the late W.H. Purser and Ethel Palmer Purser. She was a former administrative assistant in the Modern Language Department at Clemson University and retired as an administrative assistant in the Comptroller's Office at Winthrop University. She attended Winthrop University and was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson.
Surviving are her husband, J. Douglas Mauldin; two sons, William H. Kennedy of Charleston and Michael Scott Kennedy of Lawrence, Kan.; three sisters, Jean Patterson of Clemson and Sarah Heyer and Barbara Krieger, both of Seneca.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central.

Louisiana Primus
CHESTER - Mrs. Louisiana M. Primus, 94, of 1141 Rocky Creek Lane in Lowrys, formerly of Opelousas, La., died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Opelousas, with the Rev. Green officiating.
Burial will be at Myrtle Grove Cemetery in Opelousas.
A native of New Orleans, Mrs. Primus was the daughter of the late Gilbert O'Dear and Lillie Clark O'Dear. She was a homemaker and was a traveling member of Calvary Baptist Church of Chester under the leadership of Dr. J.H. Neal. She was a member of the Order of Queen Easter Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star, the Household of Ruth and The Daughter of Elks Lodge No. 6868.
Surviving are her daughter, Florence Hensley of the home; and several grandchildren.
Denton Funeral Home in Chester and Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, are in charge.

Robert Smith
SEATTLE - Mr. Robert Lee Smith, 60, formerly of York County, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Veterans Hospital in Seattle.
Last rites will be 2 p.m. Friday at The National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C.
A native of York County, Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army veteran, with 18 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are four sons, Robbie, Mike, Robert and Darrell; his brother, Roy Smith of Ninety Six; four sisters, Thelma Harris, Zelma Bolin, Alma Williams and Lois Moore, all of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice or "Kidz Konnection" at College Park Baptist Church.

Jerry Carter
ROCK HILL - Mr. Jerry Thomas Carter, 61, of 1113 Williams St. died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at home.
The church service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Tucker officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Martinsville, Va., Mr. Carter was a son of Myrtle May Bell Carter of Altavista, Va., and the late William Stafford Carter. He was the retired owner of Carter's Electric. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a member of Frank Roach American Legion Post No. 34. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Judy S. Carter; three sons, Mark Allen Carter and Brian Van Carter, both of Rock Hill, and Michael Van Carter of Cheraw; two brothers, James Carter and Jerome Carter, both of Spring City, Tenn.; two sisters, Diane Doss of Altavista, Va., and Deborah Carter of Greensboro, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and other times at home. 1113 Williams St., Rock Hill.

Gerry Robbins Sr.
CHESTER - Mr. Gerry Robbins Sr., 38, of 524 Gardendale Circle died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating and the Revs. Leroy Ellison and James Good assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Robbins was a son of Frances M. Robbins of the home. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and attended Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Chester County. He worked for Eagle Family Foods Inc. of Chester.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Ernestine C. Robbins; three sons, Gerry Robbins Jr., Tirrell M. Robbins and Jirrell D. Robbins, all of Chester; his daughter, Tiffany S. Robbins of Chester; two brothers, Clarence Allen Robbins and Bobby Lee Robbins, both of Chester; two sisters, Brenda Worthy and Gloria Crank, both of Chester; and his grandson.
The body may be viewed from
1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The family will receive friends at the home.
