CHESTER - Mr. Leroy J. Lowery, 76, of 1 Medical Park Drive died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Chester County Hospital.
The church service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Fountain of Life Church of God, with the Rev. Fred Bryant officiating and the Revs. Joseph Morgan and Edward Tager Sr. assisting. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.
A native of Great Falls, Mr. Lowery was a son of the late Palmer Jack Lowery and Lillie Small Lowery. He retired from Manetta Mills after 35 years of service. He was a member of Fountain of Life Church of God. He was the widower of Ora Elizabeth Lowery, Helen Willard Lowery and Lillie Mae Willard Lowery.
Surviving are his son, Jack F. Lowery of Chester; two daughters, Oralee L. McWatters and Connie L. Stedman, both of Chester; three step-sons, Robert Willard, Billy Willard and Larry Willard, all of Chester; three step-daughters, Shirley Brown and Frances Foster, both of Chester, and Margaret Barber of Moorehead City, N.C.; his sister, Nancy L. McWatters of Chester; special friend and caretaker Major Crosby of Chester; two grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and at other times at the home of his sister, Nancy L. McWatters, 49 East White St., Chester.
Memorials may be made to Fountain of Life Church of God Church Building Fund, c/o the Rev. Fred Bryant, 520 Christopher Lane, Chester, SC 29706.

Alvin Rice
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Alvin Rice, 82, formerly of Blackstock, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Mercy Hospital.
The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Grier Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Bethel AME Zion Church cemetery.
A native of Blackstock, Mr. Rice was a son of the late William Rice and Rosa Cammon Rice. He was a member of Bethel AME Zion Church and retired from Bethlehem Steel. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are two brothers, Morris Rice and Vander Rice, both of Charlotte; and two sisters, Louise Ruff of Baltimore and Mary Bell of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends at Grier Funeral Service, 115 North Cloudman St., Charlotte, from
11:30 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday.

Ozella Brown
GASTONIA - Mrs. Ozella Dunlap Brown, 81, of 100 Tipperary Drive died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at New Home AME Zion Church in York, with the Rev. Jerry Friday officiating and Pastor A.J. Lindsay assisting. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
A native of York, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Israel Dunlap and Ola Pressley Dunlap. She was a member of Mills Chapel FBH Church.
She is survived by her nephew whom she adopted and raised, Donald L. Lawrence; her brother, Bishop David Dunlap; and five sisters, Vera Dunlap Howell, Ruby Dunlap, Emma Dunlap Barnett, Evelyn Dunlap and Maezola Dunlap McConnell.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at New Home AME Zion Church and at other times at the home of Ms. Evelyn Dunlap, 107 Galilean Road, York.

Daniel Cauthen
LANCASTER - Mr. Daniel V. Cauthen, 53, of 1921 Lynwood Drive died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Matthews Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Dr. W. Harold Owens officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Cauthen was a son of the late George William Cauthen and Grace Sarah Starnes Cauthen. He worked at MCI Construction in Lancaster.
Surviving are his wife, Pat Ellis Cauthen of Lancaster; two sons, Randall L. Cauthen of Lancaster and Daniel Wayne Cauthen of Fort Lawn; three brothers, Wm. Floyd Cauthen of Lancaster, Ronald W. Cauthen of Harker Heights, Texas, and Tommie L. Cauthen of Florida.; his sister, Carol A. Frappier of Lawton, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Laura Conner
SYLVA, N.C. - Mrs. Laura Callahan Tolley Conner, 97, of Skyland Drive died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Harris Regional Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial will be at Stillwell Cemetery.
A native of Swain County, N.C., Mrs. Conner was a daughter of the late Robert Lee Callahan and Clem Woody Callahan. She was a member of the Wayside Baptist Church. She was the widow of Jim Tolley.
Surviving are her husband, George Conner; eight sons, Robert "Hurtle" Treadway of Gastonia, N.C., Arby Tolley and Harold Tolley, both of Greenville, John Tolley of Easley, and Dick Tolley, Dewey Tolley, Jerome Tolley and Jack Tolley, all of Sylva; three daughters, Irene Davis of Whittier, N.C., Stella Bradley of Cherokee, N.C., and Rachel Gorley of Stem, N.C.; her brother, Harry Callahan of York; her sister, Vergie Moore of Gastonia; 35 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 51 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home.

Evelyn Ferrell
FORT MILL - Mrs. Evelyn Robinson Ferrell, 88, formerly of Fort Mill, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Benny Wade officiating.
A native of Fort Mill, Mrs. Ferrell was a daughter of the late Zeb Robin-son and Maggie Epps Robinson. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Mill. She was a Gold Star Mother of the American Legion Post No. 43. She was a widow of James C. Ferrell.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Hathcock of Canon, Ga.; her sister, Alma McCurry of Charlotte; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 121 Monroe White St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

William Crump
COMMERCE, Texas - Mr. William R. Crump, 53, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas, with the Rev. Mark Richie officiating.
A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Crump was a son of Margaret Hinson Crump of Rock Hill and the late William Randolph. He was a retired carpenter and fork lift driver. He was a veteran.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Lena Gail Crump of Commerce; two brothers, Larry Crump of Rock Hill and Kenneth Crump of Palmer, Alaska; three stepsons, Michael Ridings, Larry Ridings and Royce McClendon Jr., all of Commerce; and five grandchildren.

Paul Tate
LANCASTER - Mr. Paul Henry Tate, 83, of 2428 Shore Drive died Friday, April 20, 2001, at home.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Allen Brazell officiating.
A native of Great Falls, Mr. Tate was a son of the late John Henry Tate and Willie Christie Tate. He was a retired manager of the South East Service Center of Baker Equipment Co. in St. Petersburg, Fla. He attended Great Falls schools and attended Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lancaster. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was the widower of Daisy Nivens Tate and Mary Flowers Tate.
Surviving are his son, Gerald Ervin Tate of Port Neches, Texas; his sister, Joan Tate Dominguez of Norwalk, Calif.; two stepsons, Donald Rudolph Jordan of Lancaster and James Curtis Jordan of Columbia; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Victor Truesdale
HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Victor Carlyle Truesdale Sr., 82, of 1310 Flint Ridge Road died Friday, April 20, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Flint Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Neal, Jimmy Hogsed, Kelvin Hinson and Dr. Archie Neal officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Kershaw County, Mr. Truesdale was a son of the late Robert Shellie Truesdale and Alice Moseley Truesdale. He was a retired self-employed masonry contractor and was a member of Flint Ridge Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Hammond Truesdale; two sons, Victor Truesdale Jr. and Mark Truesdale, both of Heath Springs; two brothers, Bobby S. Truesdale and Hazel Truesdale, both of Westville, his sister, Vivian Melton of Columbia; two grandchildren; his stepgrandson.; and his great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Mable Watkins
GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Mable Elizabeth Allison Watkins, 44, of 1812 Garland Ave., formerly of Clover, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Washington Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Stoney Point Road in Waco, N.C., with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of York, Mrs. Watkins was a daughter of the late Samuel J. C. Allison and Annie Mae Bailey Allison. She joined Green Pond United Methodist Church in Clover and was a member of Washington Missionary Baptist Church. She attended St. Luke Christian Fellowship.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Watkins; two sons, Raymond Eugene Watkins and Christopher Watkins, both of Gastonia; three daughters, Sharon Williams, Rita Watkins and Christy Watkins, all of Gastonia; six sisters, Diana Cunningham of Bayshore, N.Y., Bertha Bailey, Roberta Allison and Josephine Ross, all of Clover, and Nancy Gardin and Sally Boyd, both of Gastonia; two brothers, Samuel Allison and Donald Allison, both of Gastonia; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in York, from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church and at other times at home.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

John Vinesett
LANCASTER - Mr. John J. Vinesett, 73, of 609 N. Catawba St. died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Hammond officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Gaffney, Mr. Vinesett was a son of the late Orrin Vinesett and Dolly Mae Mace Vinesett. He retired from Duracell, U.S.A., and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are five sons, Tommy Mace of St. John, Kan., and Daryl Mace, Wayne Vinesett, Harold Vinesett and Steve Vinesett, all of Gaffney; two daughters, Susan Childers of Gaffney and Teresa George of Westminster; his brother, Otis Vinesett of Gaffney; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his special friend Lillie Faulkner.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Jody Deese
LANCASTER - Mr. Jody Scott Deese, 25, of 2518 Beckham Lane died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at home.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Revs. Allen Brazell and Tommy Brazell officiating.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Deese was the son of Stephen Wayne "Steve" and Vickie Sue Brewer Deese.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Ryan Zeb Polston of Sparta, N.C.; his daughter, Cheltsie Elizabeth Johnson of Lancaster; his sister, Stephanie Nicole Deese of Lancaster; and his grandmothers, Vera Wright and Mary Brewer.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home.

Lizzie White
FORT MILL - Mrs. Lizzie White, of 239 Cinda St. died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. John T. McCoy officiating and evangelist Sandra McCoy assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of York County, Mrs. White was the daughter of Sadie Page Cherry and the late Leroy Cherry. She attended the public schools of York County and was a graduate of York Technical College. She was a Sunday school teacher and a deaconess at Nazareth Baptist Church and the owner of Just For You Hair Salon in Rock Hill.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Jeffrey A. White Sr.; two sons, Jeffrey A. White Jr. and Danelle J. Burnette, both of the home; three brothers, Alexander Cherry and Charles Cherry, both of Rock Hill, and Robert Cherry of Charlotte; three sisters, Betty Tucker and Blanche Cherry, both of Rock Hill, and Lisa Brice of Chester.
The family will receive friends 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home, at other times at 1501 Memorial Drive, Rock Hill, and at the home. The body will lie in state at noon Tuesday.

Mary Ireland
GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Mary Alice Cox Ireland, 59, of 37 Seaboard St. died Friday, April 20, at home.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m. today at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Compton officiating.
A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Ireland was the daughter of George Frederick Cox and Bessie Faye Knight Cox both of Great Falls. She was a psychiatric hospital therapy aid.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Philip R. Ireland; three sons, Edward Ireland and Philip Ireland Jr., both of Houston, and Christopher Ireland of Lockhart; five sisters, Ann Woods of Lancaster, Nancy Pendergrass of Columbia, Sharon Cox of Suma, Wash., Jonnie Mae Goodrich of Waco, Texas, and Mary Cox of Great Falls; and six grandchildren.

Herman Grigg
CLOVER - Mr. Herman Cicero Grigg, 75, of 115 Cloverbrook Drive died Friday, April 20, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Free Will Baptist Church, with the Revs. Marvin Carson and Odell Cook officiating. Burial will be at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City, N.C.
A native of Cleveland, N.C., he was a son of the late Maurice and Velle Wellmon Grigg.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Church Grigg of the home; seven sons, Kenneth Grigg and Kelly Grigg, both of Waterloo, Iowa, and Keith Grigg, Kalvin Grigg, Karl Grigg, Kalman Grigg and Kevin Grigg, all of Clover; four daughters, Kathy Spargo of Belmont, N.C., Karon Wilson of York and Karla McClure and Khristine Robinson, both of Clover; two brothers, Hershel Grigg and Paul Grigg, both of Gastonia; 28 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Services Southside Chapel in Gastonia, N.C., and at other times at the home.
