CHARLOTTE - Miss Madeline D. Bennett of the Charlotte Health Center on Toddville Road died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Charlotte Health Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Wright Funeral Home in York, with the Rev. Robyn Gool officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery in Sharon.
A native of York County, Miss Bennett joined the Mount Hopewell Baptist Church in Sharon at an early age. She attended Mount Morris Ascension Presbyterian Church in New York City. She attended Brainerd Institute in Chester. She studied nursing and graduated from Elizabeth City University in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Surviving are her sister, Willie Neely of Charlotte and her niece and caregiver, Diane McCluney of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home.

Thomas Blackmon Jr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas M. Blackmon Jr., 15, of 1033 Oconee St. died Tuesday, April 24, 2001.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Mecklenburg County, Mr. Blackmon was a son of Thomas M. Blackmon Sr. and Angela M. Blackmon. He was a sophomore at Northwestern High School and participated on the track and basketball teams.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Isaiah Blackmon and Mark Blackmon, both of Rock Hill; four sisters, Angelina Blackmon, Tiayonna Blackmon, Quanika Blackmon and Alisha Blackmon, all of Rock Hill; his paternal grandmother, Carol Chambers of Fayetteville, N.C.; his maternal grandparents, Marshall McIlwain and Mary Young, both of Charlotte; and his maternal great-grandparents, Marion Young and Lillian Young, both of Charlotte.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Mary Ireland
GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Mary Alice Cox Ireland, 59, of 37 Seaboard St. died Friday, April 20, at home.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Compton officiating.
A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Ireland was the daughter of George Frederick Cox and Bessie Faye Knight Cox of Great Falls. She was a psychiatric hospital therapy aide.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Philip R. Ireland; three sons, Edward Ireland and Philip Ireland Jr., both of Houston; and Christopher Ireland of Lockhart; five sisters, Ann Woods of Lancaster, Nancy Pendergrass of Columbia, Sharon Cox of Suma, Wash., Jonnie Mae Goodrich of Waco, Texas, and Mary Cox of Great Falls; and six grandchildren.

Agnes June
YORK - Mrs. Agnes Collins June, 76, of 25 Pinckney St. died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at New Home AME Zion Church in York, with Dr. C.J. Jenkins officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by the Rev. June Johnson.
A native of York, Mrs. June was a retired spinner at Pharr Yarns, Clover Division, with 10 years of service. She was a member of New Home AME Zion Church and the New Home Church Aid Society.
Surviving are five sons, David L. Collins of the home, Arthur Lewis June of McConnells, Willie James June of Gastonia, N.C., Nathaniel Edward June of Rock Hill and Charles Henry June of Bessemer City, N.C.; four daughters, Rebecca J. Brown of Edgemoor, Lillie McConnell and Rosenna June Boger, both of Rock Hill, and Dianne June Johnson of Gastonia; three brothers, Woodrow Collins, John Frank Collins and Kay Collins, all of York; her goddaughter and caregiver, Dorothy Mae Chalk of the home; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at New Home AME Zion Church and at other times at home.
Wright Funeral Home in York is in charge.

Mary Koester
CLOVER - Mrs. Mary Violet Craven Koester, 87, of 1331 Woodend Lane died Monday, April 23, 2001, at White Oak Manor in York.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with Father Edward McDivett officiating.
A native of Charleston, Mrs. Koester was a daughter of the late William Edward Craven and Mary Thumbeleston. She was a librarian and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in North Charleston. She was the widow of Frank W. Koester.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary K. Rushing of Clover; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Bratton Funeral Home is in charge.

Marie Pendergrass
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Mrs. Marie Pendergrass, formerly of Chester, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.B. Darby officiating and the Revs. Columbus Pendergrass Jr., Tabitha Gwin and Curtis Washington assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mrs. Pendergrass grew up in the Wilksburg community and was a daughter of the late Vinnie Pendergrass. She was reared by her godparents, Ellen Pendergrass and Minnie Pendergrass. She was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church and attended public school in Chester County. She became a certified nursing assistant in New York and worked at Niagara Lutheran Home until her retirement.
Surviving in addition to her godparents are two sons, Otis Pendergrass of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Columbus Pendergrass of Chester; two daughters, Ruby Marie Pendergrass and Lucinda Worthy, both of Buffalo; and 28 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from the home of Columbus Pendergrass, 2657 Pilgrim Road.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel of Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York, Chester.
The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

David Snipes
LANCASTER - Mr. David Ray Snipes, 55, of 3372 Spirit Road died Tuesday, April 24, 2001.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Tommy Bryson, Tim Larrimore and Wayne Snipes officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Kershaw, Mr. Snipes was a son of the late Sam James Snipes and Azilee Robinson Snipes. He was a member of the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.
Surviving are his son, Donnie R. Snipes of Lancaster; his brothers, Larry Snipes and Gary Snipes, both of Lancaster; two sisters, Lois Beckham of Lancaster and Effie Harvey of Port Orchard, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home of Donnie Snipes, 800 Greenbriar Drive.

Caroline Wentzky
ANDERSON - Mrs. Caroline Clement Wentzky, 73, of 101 Frances St. died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Rob Butler and Beryl Rosenberger officiating.
A native of Honea Path, Mrs. Wentzky was a daughter of the late Max Clement and Maymie Kay Clement. She retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. with 37 years of service. She was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, William Wentzky Jr.; three stepsons, Rick Wentzky and Sam Wentzky, both of Anderson, and Bill Wentzky of York; her sister, Maxine Belk-Doker of Texas; six stepgrandchildren; and her stepgreat-grandchild.
The body will be at Sullivan-King Mortuary Downtown Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
The family is at home.

Marvin Atkinson
CLOVER - Mr. Marvin Albert Atkinson of 115 Ridge Ave. died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Clover, with the Revs. David Stanford and Jim McConnell officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
A native of Greencastle, Ind., Mr. Atkinson was a son of the late Guy Albert Atkinson and Leona Wells Atkinson Bowers. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from Venture Packaging Co. in Charlotte. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a member of Clover Optimist Club and was an avid woodworker and artist.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Sipes Atkinson; his daughter, Julie Warner of Fort Mill; two sons, Lee Atkinson of Burlington, N.C., and Todd Atkinson of Clover; and four grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Sandra Marie Boyd Hemphill Lewis, 46, of 1518 N. Allen St. died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Zechariah Alexander Sr. Memorial Chapel in Charlotte. Burial will be at Big Calvary Baptist Church in Edgemoor.
A native of York, Mrs. Lewis worked at Lance Packing Co.
Surviving are her husband, Jimmie Lewis; two sons, Lindsay Hemphill of Charlotte and William G. Hemphill of Rock Hill; her daughter, Latosha M. Hemphill of West Virginia; her brother, James White Jr. of Atlanta; three sisters, Margaret Massey, Sharon Ealy and Janice W. Blackmon, all of Rock Hill; three stepsons, Antonio Gooden, Adrian Gooden and Jimmy Gooden, all of Charlotte; and 14 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Zechariah Alexander Sr. Memorial Chapel.
Alexander Funeral Home in Charlotte is in charge.

Wright Randolph Sr.
CLOVER - Mr. Wright Naramore Randolph Sr. of 912 Birchwood Drive died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Hope officiating.
A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mr. Randolph was a son of the late Ridgeley Bennett Randolph and Winifred Hope Williams Randolph. He was retired from IBM and attended Faith Baptist Church. He also served with the Ridgecrest (N.C.) Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Marie Falls Randolph; his son, Wright N. Randolph Jr. of Tucson, Ariz; three daughters, Allyson Lockwood of Tucson, Sandra Lane of the home and Kendall Randolph of Albemarle, N.C.; two brothers, Richard Randolph of Cupertino, Calif. and William Randolph of Houston; three sisters, Myra Saylor of Yuma, Ariz., Nella Henninger of San Jose, Calif. and Betsy Woodard of Houston; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Faith Baptist Church 30 minutes before the service.

FORT MILL - Mr. Willie Boulware of 106 Juniper St. died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Beverly Health Care.

Bernard Lewis Jr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. Bernard Andrew "Drew" Lewis Jr., 56, of 715 S. Jones Ave. died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at home.
A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York, with Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Florence National Cemetery, with full military honors.
A native of Greenville, Mr. Lewis was a son of the late Bernard A. Lewis Sr. and Louise Meeks Lewis. He was a member of Divine Saviour Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran with 23 years of service, including four tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion and the DAV.
Surviving are his wife, Georganna McKown Lewis; his son, Bernard A. Lewis III of Denver, N.C.; two daughters, Lauri L. Wilson of Denver and Bernadette A. Carter of Rock Hill; three brothers, Charles Lewis of Arizona, Mike Lewis of North Augusta and Greg Lewis of York; two sisters, Mary L. Schwinn of Chevy Chase, Md., and Marie L. Ruggerri of Lancaster; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Wilson, whom he reared.
The family will receive friends at home.

CHESTER - Mrs. Mary Louise Weaver Perry, 80, of 819 Perry Drive died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilksburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. Elton Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Wilksburg Baptist Church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mrs. Perry was a daughter of the late Sidney Young Weaver and Rena Mae Hoopaugh Weaver. She was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Wilksburg Baptist Church. She attended Chester County schools. She was the widow of Robert Clyde Perry.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Y. "Bobby" Perry, Clyde Perry and Claude Perry, all of Chester; her daughter, Frances Vance of Chester; three sisters, Dorothy Allen, Clary Lee Roof and Betty Lou Adkins, all of Chester; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Mae Franklin
SHARON - Mrs. Mae Franklin, 95, of 2895 Shannon St. died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at White Oak Manor in York.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Jubilee Christian Center in York, with the Rev. J. Richard Little officiating. Burial will be at St. John Baptist Church cemetery.
A native of Lockhart, Ala., Mrs. Franklin was a daughter of the late Walter Moore and Maude Moore.
Surviving are her son, Albert Garry of Sharon; her daughter, Mable Garry of Union, N.J.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Jubilee Christian Center in York.
