KERSHAW - Mary Pauline Small Meade, 66, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Kershaw Medical Center.
A graveside service with full military honors will be 3 p.m. today at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner Jr. officiating.
A native of Bethune, Meade was a daughter of the late Oscar Small and Ellen Watkins Small. She was a retired major of the U.S. Air Force and attended the Camden School of Nursing.
She attended the University of Pennsylvania, with postgraduate training in surgery. She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1973. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of Terry Meade.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home Kershaw Chapel.

Lawrence Alexander
MAPLEWOOD, N. J. - Mr. Lawrence Albert Alexander of 12 Evelyn Court died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, N.J.
Arrangements will be announced by Clemons Funeral Home, Rock Hill.

Fred Sladek
CLOVER - Mr. Fred Melvin Sladek of 102 Poplar St. died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be private.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Sladek was a son of the late Frederick Sladek and Dorothy Jones Sladek. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Ellens; his son, Rick Sladek of Kent, Wash.; three daughters, Cathie Bryan and Carrie Lynn Sandisteven, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Rebecca Bealer of Lake Bay, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Schmachaer of Olloia, Wash. and Joan Stanton of Port Orchard, Wash.; three stepsons, Layne Giest of Clover, Lance Giest of Tulrosa, N.M., and Dean Giest of Oxnard, Calif.; his stepdaughter, LyRae Davis of Clover; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 30 W. Liberty St., York, SC 29745.
M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Matthew Edwards Jr.
ROCK HILL - Mr. Matthew Thomas Edwards Jr., 77, of 905 Ragin Lane died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Woodland United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Lee Bryant and Cooper Stonestreet officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Matthew Thomas Edwards Sr. and Minnie Hunter Edwards. He was owner of Edwards Tax Co. and was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran and was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Mary B. Edwards; his son, Matthew Thomas Edwards III of Conway; his daughter, Tommie Edwards Jones of Redlands, Calif.; three sisters, Alice Scoggins, Ruby Cornwell and Hattie Bigger, all of Rock Hill; and two stepsons, Neal Tobias of Charlotte and Jeff Tobias of Denver, N.C.; his stepdaughter, Carrol Tobias Privette of Gastonia, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Lucille Couch
KERSHAW - Mrs. Lucille Griffin Reeves Couch, 83, of 6429 N. Matson St. died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Hogsed officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Couch was a daughter of the late William Brady Griffin Sr. and Pearl Williams Griffin. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, a nursery worker and a training union teacher. She was retired from Springs Industries. She was the widow of Broadus Reeves and William Couch.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Reeves Sims of Lancaster and Joann Reeves Owens of Westville; two sisters, Cleo G. Hilton of Kershaw and Glenna Beckham of Greenwood; three stepsons, Walter Couch and Frank Couch, both of Lancaster, and Ned Couch of Heath Springs; her stepdaughter, Iva Bae Branham of Lugoff; three grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from at the home of Cleo Hilton, 307 S. Matson St.

Kenneth McDonald
FOREST CITY, N.C. - Mr. Kenneth Tanner McDonald, 86, of West Main Street died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Bob Clinard and Don Freshour officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Rutherford County, N.C., Mr. McDonald was a son of the late Monroe McDonald and Ada Moore McDonald. He was retired from Stonecutter Mills Corp., with 41 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he formerly served as Sunday school superintendent, chairman of the administrative board and was a church trustee. After retirement, he operated K.T.'s Babyland at his home.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Nanney McDonald; his son, Russell McDonald of Rock Hill; two daughters, Sibyl M. Grasfeder of Union City, Tenn., and Nancy M. Nichols of Forest City; three sisters, Ruth Nash of Durham, N.C., Mildred Furches of Southern Pines, N.C. and Hazel Crawford of Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. today at the church fellowship hall.

Judy McManus
LANCASTER - Mrs. Judy Darnell Taylor McManus, 53, of 895 Union Church Road died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Joel Rhyner officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. McManus was a daughter of Dorothy "Dot" Carnes Taylor of Lancaster and the late Joseph L. Taylor. She worked in the sewing room of the Springs Industries Grace Finishing Plant and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Richard F. McManus Sr.; two sons, Richard "Rick" F. McManus Jr. and Jason D. McManus, both of Lancaster; her brother, Ronald Taylor of Lancaster; and two sisters, Carol Branham and Patricia Leigh, both of Lancaster.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Annie Alexander
YORK - Ms. Annie Kimble Alexander, 62, of 1677 E. Alexander Love Hwy. died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church cemetery in Sharon, with the Rev. James Gable officiating and the Rev. Clyde Mitchum assisting.
A native of York, Ms. Alexander was a daughter of the late Floyd H. Kimble and Julia Blanton Kimble. She was a housewife and worked for The Bank of York. She was a member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Alexander; her son, Dale S. Alexander of York; her daughter, Wanda A. Milem of York; two brothers, Lester Kimble of York and Billy Kimble of Chester; two grandchildren; her stepgranddaughter; and her stepgreat-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Dorothy E. "Dot" Ewell, 75, of 5805 Mikala Drive died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Lawrence Alexander
MAPLEWOOD, N.J. - Mr. Lawrence Albert Alexander, 62, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Beth Israel Hospital, Newark, N.J.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Charles Woods officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Baptist Church cemetery in Blair.
Surviving are his mother, Leola Williams Alexander of Rock Hill; six children, Ronnie Williams of Rock Hill, Thomas Boyd of New Jersey, Lawrence Albert Alexander Jr. and Karen Alexander, both of New York; Gwendolyn Williams of Washington, D.C., and Loren Dale More of Garner, N.C.; five brothers, Murray Alexander, James Douglas Alexander and Vincent Alexander, all of Rock Hill, Horace Ameen of Charlotte, and Ramziddin Ameen of Columbia; five sisters, Beaula Wallace and Karen Shabazz, both of Rock Hill, Mamie Reinbold of Charleston, Deloris Mahone of Charlotte and Gloria Akram of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Willie Boulware
FORT MILL - Mr. Willie Boulware of 106 Juniper St. died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Beverly Health Care.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Indian Hill AME Zion Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Paulette Leak officiating. Eulogy will be conducted by the Rev. L.W. Edwards. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Boulware was a son of the late Tony Benjamin Boulware and Mary Boulware. He was a member of Indian Hill AME Zion Church, where he served as class leader of Class No. 1 and was a trustee. He was superintendent of Sunday school and was president of the usher board. He was an Elk. He attended public schools of Fairfield County.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Boulware; two sons, O'Neil Boulware of the home and Amos Moore of Baltimore; two daughters, Dorothy Barrett of Rock Hill and Doris Edwards of Charlotte; his brother, Edward Boulware of Philadelphia; his sister, Rachel Boulware of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at noon Monday.
Memorials may be made to the Indian Hill AME Zion Church Building Fund.

Finley Dover
HICKORY GROVE - Mr. Finley Randy Dover, 21, of 2785 Howells Ferry Road died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Grove Church of God, with the Rev. Roger B. Nix officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Memorial Gardens.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Dover is a son of Finley Ricky Dover and Kathlean Jeanette Dover. He was a member of Hickory Grove Church of God and was an electrician.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his paternal grandparents, Finley Dover and Marie Melton Dover, both of Hickory Grove.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, and at other times at home.
The body will be taken to the church at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Garrett Mobley Sr.
KERSHAW - Mr. Garrett Judson Mobley Sr., 88, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner Jr. officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of Kershaw, Mr. Mobley was a son of the late Jesse Hammond Mobley and Florence Marion Floyd Mobley. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and was training union director. He was a businessman and farmer. He was a member of the Kershaw Lions Club and had received a 50-Year Recognition Award. He served on the Baptist Ministry for the Aging. He served on the Board of Baptist Homes and was a board member of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. He was a Farm Bureau director. He was a 1934 graduate of Clemson College and for many years served as an IPTAY Director for Lancaster County. He worked for the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of national, state and local education associations. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and retired as a major from the USAF Reserves in 1960. He served three terms in the S.C. House of Representatives, representing Lancaster County from 1962 to 1968.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Rowell Mobley; his son, Garrett J. Mobley Jr. of Charlotte; his daughter, Sylvia Ford of West Columbia; his brother, Robert A. Mobley of Lancaster; two sisters, Verda Steele of Kershaw and Jessie Lee M. Williams of Springfield; and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and at other times at the home of William Steele, 6745 Kershaw-Camden Hwy.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Everette Vance Gray, 75, of 10 Church St. died Friday, April 27, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Mullis officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
A native of Concord, N.C., Mr Gray was a son of Nancy McLester Gray of Concord and the late Cleveland Lee Gray Sr. He was retired from J.P. Stevens.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Louise Coan Gray; two daughters, Judy Gray Gallman of Rock Hill and Kathy Gray Ellis of Lancaster; his sister, Ann Jones of Concord; two brothers, Gilbert Gray of Kannapolis, N.C., and Cleveland Lee Gray Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

CHESTER - Mrs. Margaret Heyman died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
