CLOVER - Mr. Samuel Carroll Thaxton, 76, of 215 Price St. died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bratton Funeral Home, with Dr. Elwood Seemster officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
A native of Athens, Ga., Mr. Thaxton was a son of the late Rollin L. Thaxton Sr. and Loudell Matthews Thaxton. He was retired from Duke Power's maintenance department. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clover.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Allred Thaxton of Clover; his brother, Rollin L. Thaxton Jr. of Lexington, Ga.; his sister, Martha T. Colquitt of Lexington, Ga.; two stepsons, Robert White and Henry White, both of Clover; two stepdaughters, Vera Wertz of Barnwell and Olene Wilson of Clover; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 490 Griggs Road, Clover, SC 29710 or the charity of one's choice.

John Matheson Sr.
FORT LAWN - Mr. John William Matheson Sr., 82, of 1357 Malcris Drive died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at El Bethel United Methodist Church in Fort Lawn, with the Rev. Curtis Wells officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Mr. Matheson was a son of the late William Matheson and Lillian Jeeter Matheson. He was a retired World War II U.S. Navy chief petty officer. He was a survivor of the USS Princeton, an aircraft carrier that sank during the battle of Leyte Gulf. He was a Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Jet Engine Technical Representative. He was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church and was a member of Fleet Reserve Association.
Surviving are his son, John William Matheson Jr.; two daughters, Margaret Matheson Edwards of Charlotte and Mary Matheson Montgomery of Austin, Texas; his brother, Ben Matheson of Houston; two sisters, Cleo Provensen of Atascadaro, Calif., and Dorothy Edwards of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Georgia Rodgers
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Georgia Elaine Merritt Rodgers, 55, of Hutchinson St. died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Charlotte.
Arrangements will be announced by Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel.

Lula Cooke
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lula Lucas Cooke, 87, of 905 MacArthur St. died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Hoff officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Mem-orial Park.
A native of Swansea, Mrs. Cooke was a daughter of the late Hampton Lucas and Hattie Kirkland Lucas. She was a homemaker and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Trinity Bible Church. She was the widow of Clarence "C.B." Cooke.
Surviving are two sons, Randy Cooke and Marty Cooke, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Sue Cooke O'Neal and Pamela Cooke Evenson, both of Rock Hill; her sister, Evelyn Mack of Gaston; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and at other times at home.

Johnnie Massey
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Johnnie Mae Tucker Massey of 644 Simpson St. died Wednesday, May 2, 2001.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Church of God of Prophecy, with Bishop Richard McInnis officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Massey was a daughter of the late James Tucker and Leolder Jackson Tucker. She attended the public schools of York County and worked at Jack Cookies in Charlotte, with 11 years of service. She also was a dietician at Mecklenburg Health Care Center in Charlotte. She attended Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving are her husband, Nelson Massey; four sons, Nelson Leonard Massey of Wake Forest, N.C., E. Vincent Massey of Acworth, Ga., Fredrick Lamont Massey and Raymond Clarence Massey, both of Charlotte; her daughter, Wenisha Otea Massey of Charlotte; her brother, LaVonda Tucker of Charlotte; six sisters, Virginia Simpson of Columbia, Ruth Patterson of Charlotte, Mary Etta Jones and Shirley Tucker, both of Cincinnati, Bernice Bryant of Charlotte and Pastor Janice "Barbara" Roseboro of Fayetteville, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home.
The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Odell Walker
FORT MILL - Mr. Lonnie Odell Walker, 88, of 304 Academy St. died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Fort Mill Church of God, with Pastor David Kemp, the Rev. Mark Leonhardt and Brother S.B. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.
A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Walker was a son of the late Lonnie Calvin Walker and Annie Ida Denton Walker. He worked for Springs Industries and was retired from Southern Electric. He owned and operated the Shell station on Cherry Road in Rock Hill. He was a charter member of the Fort Mill Church of God, where he was a musician.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Dinkins Walker of Fort Mill; his son, Cleduth Walker of Catawba; two daughters, Phyllis Childers and Linda Hilton, both of Fort Mill; his sister, Mazelle Keatts of Burlington, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bruce Edwards
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - Mr. Bruce Wayne Edwards, 39, died Saturday, April 21, 2001.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at his mother's residence, 2357 Red Oak Loop in Blackshear, Ga.
A native of Georgia, Mr. Edwards was a son of Lunell Acrod Edwards of Blackshear, and the late Robert Bryant Edwards. He was a driver and mover for a transport company.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his sister, Patricia Ann Edwards of Blackshear; his brother, Danny Edwards of Monroe, N.C.; and his maternal grandmother, Bertha Mae Tanner of Douglas, Ga.
Miles-Odum Funeral Home is in charge.

Cye Parker IV
LANCASTER - Mr. Cye Parker IV, 21, of 203 Brooklyn Ave. died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 in Lancaster.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Otis Lathan officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Lancaster, Mr. Parker was a son of Cye Parker III and Charlene Blackmon Parker. He was a cook.
Surviving in addition to his parents are four sisters, April C. Parker, Toccara Gaston, Maxie Gaston and Jessica Parker, all of Rock Hill; his maternal grandparents, Preston Blackmon and Wilma Myers Blackmon, both of Lancaster; his paternal grandmother, Geraldine Parker of Rock Hill; and his stepmother, Delores Parker of Rock Hill.

Henry Irby
ROCK HILL - Mr. Henry Lee "Pim" Irby of 743 Clarinda St. died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles S. Sanders Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of York County, Mr. Irby was a son of Mattie J. Irby and the late David Irby. He attended public schools of York County. He graduated from Emmett Scott High School, Friendship Junior College and York Technical College. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea. He retired from Winthrop University.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Janie Irby; three sons, Roderick Cherry of Fairfax, Earl Sanders of the home and Lamont Irby of Rock Hill; three brothers, John Irby and Norman Hutchison, both of Rock Hill, and Emmett Jerome Irby of Washington, D.C.; his sister, Emma Jones of Rock Hill; and 12 grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 today at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Ethel Owings
LAKE WYLIE - Mrs. Ethel Johnsen Owings, 67, of 480 Lakedale Drive died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. John E.H. Van de Vate.
A native of Canandaigua, N.Y., Mrs. Owings was a daughter of the late Arne Johnsen and Alexandra Davidson Johnsen. She was the widow of Frank M. Owings.
Surviving are two sons, Frank "Bo" of Matthews, N.C., and Andrew "Bear" Owings of Lake Wylie; two daughters, Anne Futch of Columbia and Kate Howell of Orlando, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Bear and Janet Owings, 480 Lakedale Drive, and requests that those attending the memorial service and visitation dress casually.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Pauline Lecureux Emerick, 61, of 2961 Southeastern Road died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at West Main Church of The Nazarene, with the Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Florence National Cemetery in Florence.
A native of Owosso-Corunna, Mich., Mrs. Emerick was a daughter of Faye M. Rogers Lecureux of Rock Hill and the late Laverne Lecureux. She was a registered nurse at South Carolina's Community Long Term Care. She was a member of West Main Church of The Nazarene, where she was an active member of the church board and choir and taught Sunday school.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Roger L. Emerick; two sons, Jacob Emerick of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Brian K. Emerick of York; two daughters, Irene B. Emerick of Columbia and Erin C. Emerick of the home; and her brother, David Lecureux of Oakley, Mich.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and at other times at home.

Billy Graham
EAST ORANGE, N.J. - Mr. William O'Neal "Billy" Graham of 189 Shepard Ave. died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Columbus Hospital in Newark, N.J.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Woods officiating and the Revs. Richard Graham, Hattie Foster and Jennette Leach assisting.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Graham was the son of the late O'Neal T. Graham and Mattie Barber Graham. He attended Emmett Scott High School. He was a member of Atlantic Lodge No. 2 A.F. and A.M. Scottish Rite Masons of Newark and the International Longshoremen Association Local No. 1233 of Newark. He worked for the ILA for more than 31 years.
Surviving are his son, William A. Graham of Washington, D.C.; his sister, Margaret Ann Leach of Rock Hill; his half brother, Clarence Collins of Rock Hill; and his half sister, Phyllis Graham of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Margaret Leach, 871 Rolling Green Road, Rock Hill.

CLOVER - Mr. Lawrence William Rhyne Sr., 71, of 3528 Lincoln Road died Thursday, May 3, 2001, in Gaston County, N.C.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Inman officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
A native of Gaston County, Mr. Rhyne was a son of the late Leonard Oscar Rhyne and Alice Eldora Beaty Rhyne. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a retired from York County. Surviving are his wife, Martha Elizabeth Adams Rhyne; his son, Lawrence W. Rhyne Jr. of Clover; his daughter, Susan Alice Pursley of York; his brother, Samuel A. Rhyne of Clover; three sisters, Mary Jane McCarter and Bonnie Sanford, both of Clover, and Elizabeth Barnes of Gastonia; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover.
