William Atkins
ROCK HILL - Mr. William "Bill" George Atkins, 79, of 3507 Midwood Road died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Tirzah ARP Church, with the Rev. Jan Senneker and Dr. S. Barry Eller officiating. A graveside service will be noon Monday at New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, with the Rev. Floyd Junior Stansell officiating.
A native of Anderson County, Mr. Atkins was a son of the late Samuel Horace Atkins and Delma Pilgrim Atkins. He was a 1950 graduate of Clemson University and retired from Interstate Milling-A.D.M. in Charlotte. He was a member of Tirzah ARP Church and was a former deacon at First United Methodist Church in Royston, Ga. He was a former president of the chamber of commerce in Royston and was a former Royston City Council member. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post No. 34, the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Allen Atkins; two sons, Henry Kirk Atkins of Rock Hill and Todd Atkins of Roanoke, Va.; two daughters, Kathryn Atkins Morgan of Kansas City, Mo., and Sandra Atkins Graham of Spartanburg; his brother, Edward Atkins of LaGrange, Ga.; his sister, Louise Ham of Anderson; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends after the service today in the Tirzah ARP Church family center.
Memorials may be made to Tirzah 2001 Building Fund, 6161 Mount Gallant Road, York, SC 29745.

Ellen Brookins
FORT MILL - Mrs. Ellen Brookins, 92, of 2190 Briarwood Circle died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Miami.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Bedwell officiating.
Mrs. Brookins was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Fort Mill. She taught Sunday school at Flager St. Baptist Church in Miami. She was the widow of Eulie Brookins.
Surviving are her son, Oscar Brookins of Miami; two daughters, Elizabeth Prock of Las Vegas, Nev., and Wilma Nichols of Fort Mill; her sister Zora Jones of Lee, Fla.; her brother, Joe Nichols of Lee; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and her great-great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Fort Mill, Building Fund, 121 Monroe White St., Fort Mill, SC 29715, or Special Ministries, Wayside Baptist Church, 7701 S.W. 98th St., Miami, FL 33156.

William Farrell
CASSATT - Mr. William Floyd Farrell, 53, of 1764 Cassatt Road died Saturday at Kershaw County Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home Kershaw Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Winburn officiating.
A native of Kannapolis, N.C., Mr. Farrell was a son of the late Samuel Farrell and Ruby Mae Burrell Farrell. He was a painter.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Winburn Farrell; his son, Coyt Gulledge of Cassatt; four daughters, Brenda Sue Jones of China Grove, N.C., Riqui Ann Baker of Kershaw and Kimberly Farrell and Kelly Farrell, both of Cassatt; two brothers, Tommy Farrell of Salisbury, N.C., and Martin Farrell of Concord, N.C.; four sisters, Bobbie White of Columbia, N.C., Judy Dwiggins and Brenda Vincent, both of Salisbury, and Teresa Jones of Camden; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and other times at the home of Kimberly Farrell, 2600 Potter Road in Cassatt.

Marie Picard
CLOVER - Mrs. Marie Haas Picard, 87, of 6050 Little Mountain Road died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at home.
A memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Corky Spitler officiating. A private burial will be held at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.
A native of Philadelphia, Mrs. Picard was a daughter of the late Christian Haas and Mamie Haughey Haas. She was the widow of Addison E. Picard. She was a homemaker and enjoyed growing roses and reading. She was a member of the Lake Wylie Lutheran Church, where she was the official greeter, assisted in Sunday school and was a member of the arts and crafts group.
Surviving are her daughter, Joyce P. Oliver of Clover; her brother, Walter Haas of Cape May, N.J.; and her grandson.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the church.

Lona Taylor
CARLISLE - Mrs. Lona Mae Boulware Taylor, 95, of 11344 S.C. 215 died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Chester County Hospital in Chester.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cool Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Epps and the Rev. Dale Roddey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of the late Chesley and Clara Boulware. She was a member of Cool Branch Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Union.
Surviving are three daughters, Lula T. English and Lounette T. Dickens, both of Chester, and Louise T. Roddey of Lancaster; three sons, John W. Taylor and George E. Taylor, both of Carlisle, and James E. Taylor of Moncks Corner; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Hazel Williams
LANCASTER -- Mrs. Hazel Griffin Williams, 73, of 819 W. Meeting St. died Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
A native of Union County, N.C., Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Edgar Lee Griffin and Alice Baker Griffin. She retired from Springs Industries-Grace Bleachery and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster.
Surviving are four sons, Howard Williams and Randy Williams, both of Lancaster, Tom Williams of Fort Mill and Douglas Williams of Charlotte; her daughter, Cynthia Williams Bowers of Lancaster; her sister, Ruby Deese of Monroe, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Hwy. in Lancaster.

Durward Costner
ROCK HILL - Mr. Durward Williams Costner, 89, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of our Saviour, with Dr. Charles Foss and the Rev. Alan Boland officiating.
A native of Madien N.C., Mr. Costner was a son of the late James Lawrence Costner and Meta Pearl Boyd Costner. He grew up in Greenville and moved to Rock Hill in 1948. He retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. in 1973 as general manager.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret F. Costner; his daughter, Joan Gunnells of Belize; his stepson, James Wesley Bracken of Blacksburg, Va.; his step-daughter, Truly Bracken of Atlanta; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the home.

Durward Costner
ROCK HILL - Mr. Durward Williams Costner, 89, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Lindsay Mell Crenshaw, 65, of Steele Street died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park, with Maj. Paul Kirkpatrick officiating.
A native of York County, Mr. Crenshaw was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Cren-shaw and Lula Carnes Crenshaw. He was retired from Winthrop University and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his brother, Donald Sandford Crenshaw of Rock Hill, and his sister Jacqueline McAteer of Rock Hill.

Sammie Floyd Jr.
CHARLOTTE - The Rev. Sammie Lee Floyd Jr., 45, of Charlotte died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. George Cook officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., the Rev. Floyd was a son of Maggie Floyd of Charlotte and the late Sammie L. Floyd Sr. He was a member of Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church. He was active in the youth department and youth choir. He served as associate pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church. He was former pastor of Armenia Baptist Church in Chester County and formerly worked for Belk in Charlotte.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Shirley G. Hailey Floyd; three sons, Torry Floyd, Lamont Floyd and Brandon Floyd, all of Charlotte; three daughters, Zandra Floyd, Latoya Floyd and Sheila Floyd, all of Charlotte; his grandmother, Annie B. Floyd of Charlotte; his grandchild; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.
The family will receive friends at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, 1243 West Blvd., Charlotte.

Dallas Lewis
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mrs. Dallas May Swaim Lewis, 88, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at home.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Byrne officiating.
The graveside service will be private.
A native of Forsyth County, N.C., Mrs. Lewis was a daughter of the late Erastus Swaim and Chestie Motsinger Swaim. She was the widow of the late Gaither C. Lewis Sr. She was a lifelong member of New Friendship Baptist Church. She was past president of the WMU, director of Vacation Bible School and was involved with the youth department. She was a trustee of the church and was active in the Liberty Baptist Association.
Surviving are her son, Gaither C. Lewis Jr. of Wilmington, N.C.; her daughter, Beverly L. Keely of Rock Hill; two sisters, Maida S. Waggoner and Lelia S. Woods, both of Winston-Salem; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and Wednesday after the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

John Curbeam
CHESTER - Mr. John S. Curbeam, 80, of 210 Flint St. Apt. K died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Margaret C. Hemphill, 110 White Oak St., Chester.
Arrangements will be announced by Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Raymond Lundy
KERSHAW - Mr. Raymond Harvey Lundy, 68 of 103 Johnson St. died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Center Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Miller and Marion Dry officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.
A native of Patrick, Mr. Lundy was a son of the late Tom Lundy and Ella Clark Lundy Raley. He was a member of the Center Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons. He was a member of the men's Sunday school class and was a member of the Abney Masonic Lodge No. 211. He was a truck driver for McLean Trucking Co.
Surviving are his wife, Margie Gaskins Lundy; two sons, Jeffrey Lundy of Fort Mill and Michael Lundy of Kershaw; his daughter, Lisa Payne of Kershaw; two brothers, Bobby Hazel Lundy of Fort Mill and J.W. Lundy of Lugoff; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home Kershaw Chapel and other times at home.

Sammie Watts
LANCASTER - Sammie Lee Watts, 74, of 1747 Williams Circle died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Joel Rhyner officiating. Burial will be Westside City Cemetery.
A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Sammie Watts was the son of the late Samuel Clinton Watts and Dora Horne Watts. He was a retired baker for the Lancaster Bakery and Springs Commissary, was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Delores Blanton Watts, his son, Sammy C. "Sam" Watts of Lancaster; two daughters, Sandra Catoe and Susan Jones, both of Lancaster; his brother, Ray Von Watts of Lancaster; two sisters, Eula Helms and Beulah McManus, both of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.
