Lee Carmean
DELPHOS, Ohio - Mr. Lee R. Carmean, 71, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. A graveside military service will be performed by the Delphos Veterans Council.
A native of Delphos, Mr. Carmean was a son of the late Gordie Carmean and Agnes Rose Kohorst Carmean. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a life member of the VFW Post No. 3035 and was retired from Fruehoff, where he worked as a press operator for 25 years.
Surviving are his wife, Ursula Fritze Carmean; his son, Cal "Horst" Carmean of Denver; his daughter, Heidi Florence of Rock Hill; two brothers, Carl Carmean of Spencerville, and Gordon Carmean of Delphos; three sisters, Almeda Ondo of Lima, Ohio, Rita Suever of Delphos and Pat Johnson of Indianapolis; his nephew whom he raised, Rich Bonds; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

William Carr
CHESTER - Mr. William Robert Carr, 69, of 3344 Mount Prospect Road died Saturday, May 27, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Barron Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Phil Haynes officiating. Burial will be at Armenia United Methodist Church cemetery.
A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mr. Carr was a son of the late Guy Carr and Ada Hill Carr. He attended York County schools, was a member of Bright Light Independent Freewill Baptist Church and was retired from of Springs Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Cannup Carr; his son, Darrell Parkins of Clinton; two daughters, Debbie Melton of Chester and Neely Darline Parkins of Sumter; two brothers, James Carr of York and George Carr of Hickory Grove; three sisters, Garnell Ramsey, Elzie Lanier and Annie Mae Clark, all of York; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of York County, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Robert Fowlkes
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Robert Richard Fowlkes, 71, formerly of Fort Mill, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A graveside service with military honors will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery.
A native of Chester, Mr. Fowlkes was a son of the late Harry Benjamin Fowlkes and Mary Allen Fowlkes. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after a 21-year career that included service during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was the widower of Anna T. Fowlkes.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Fowlkes Joyner of Charlotte; his sister, Ila Fowlkes Walker of Charlotte; and his grandson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte.

Robert Elam
BALTIMORE - Mr. Robert Elam, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore.
The family will receive friends at the homes of Mr. Elam's nieces and nephew, Ursula Mae Sanders, Easter Mae Elam and Sammie Elam, all of Chester.
Marsh's Funeral Home of Baltimore is in charge of arrangements.
Local arrangements will be announced by Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

Johnnie Humphries
UNION - Mrs. Johnnie Mae Humphries, 60, of 527 Sardis Road died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Beulah Osborne
LANCASTER - Mrs. Beulah Robinson Osborne, 81, of 1404 Somerset Drive died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Tanglewood Health Care in Ridgeway.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mrs. Osborne was a daughter of the late Simon Wright and Ruby Rachel Tranium Robinson. She was a former employee of Bob Williams Cleaners. She was the widow of Ethridge Zeb Osborne.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Osborne Adams and Nona Osborne Noblitt, both of Lan-caster; two brothers, Buford L. Robinson and Paul Robinson, both of Atlanta; three sisters, Elizabeth Corbett of Memphis, Tenn., Louise Wehunt of Atlanta and Joyce Holland of Riply, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight.

Hall Ferguson
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Mr. Hall Nathaniel Ferguson, 80, of 139 Biltmore Drive died Monday, May 28, 2001, at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be
11 a.m. Wednesday at Richmond Memorial Park, with the Rev. Wayne Tuttle officiating.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Ferguson was a son of the late Lee Hall and Beattie Hinson Ferguson. He was retired from Burlington Mills.
Surviving are his daughter, Trudie Dawkins of Rockingham; two brothers, John L. Ferguson of Folly Beach and Mills Ferguson of Rock Hill; his sister, Catherine F. Reeves of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Marks Funeral Home in Rockingham is in charge.

Wilma Gore
CHERRYVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Wilma Brown Gore of Century Care Health Center died Monday, May 28, 2001, at home.
Arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Jessie Rambert
ELIZABETH, N.J. - Mr. Jessie Lewis "Jet" Rambert, 56, formerly of Chester, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at his home.
Arrangements will be announced by Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

Willie Waldrop
YORK - Mr. Willie Waldrop, 54, of 3142 W. Highway 55 died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Midway Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe Hickson officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Presbyterian Church cemetery in Clover.
A native of Greenville, Mr. Waldrop was a son of the late Augustine Thomas Waldrop and Mary Elizabeth Hudson Waldrop. He was self-employed.
Surviving are his brother, Grady Waldrop of York, and two sisters, Coreen Carnes and Martha Brown, both of York.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at York Funeral Home.

David Schultz
CHESTER - The Rev. Dr. David Brown Schultz, 89, of 648 Ebony Grove Lane died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Metropolitan AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Willie Evans officiating and Presiding Elder Carl L. Glenn giving the eulogy. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
A native of Waynesboro, Ga., the Rev. Dr. Schultz was a son of the late Sims Schultz and Amanda Lovett Schultz.
He was a retired minister with the AME Zion Church South Carolina Conference and he ministered in York and Chester counties. He attended schools in Waynesboro.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrize Schultz of the home; two daughters, Roslyn Briscoe of Chester and Davida Schultz of the home; his brother, the Rev. Dr. George W. Schultz of Richmond, Va.; and his granddaughter, Courtney Amanda Briscoe, whom he reared.
The body will be placed in the church at noon today.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Clara Scruggs
GAFFNEY- Mrs. Clara Mae Mabry Scruggs, 74, of 1266 Chesnee Highway died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, with Dr. Terry Duvall officiating.
Burial will be at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
A native of Gaffney, Mrs. Scruggs was a daughter of the late Roland Forrest Mabry and Flora Clary Mabry. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and attended Limestone College.
Surviving are her husband, Harry H. Scruggs, and her sister, Mrs. Jerry Estes of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, 211 East Frederick St., Gaffney.

Gene Able
GEORGETOWN - The funeral for Mr. Gene Able, 60, former sports editor of The Herald, will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Sauls Funeral Home chapel in Ridgeland. Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in Yemassee.
Abel of 117-A Saint James St. died Monday, May 28, 2001, at his home.
A native of Ridgeland, Mr. Able was a son of the late Jack L. Able and Lillie M. Collins Roberts. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school and served at Fort Sam Houston in Texas and in Ingrandes, France. He graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina, where he majored in English and journalism. He received his master's degree in journalism at Winthrop College. He was a journalist for more than 30 years, with stints at several newspapers, including The Herald, where he was sports editor from 1993 to 1994.
He was the first managing editor of The (Hilton Head) Island Packet and publisher of The Lowcountry Sentinel. He spent 13 years at The State newspaper in Columbia as a sports writer, outdoors editor, feature writer and columnist. He was editor and general manager of The Independent News in Irmo and was a reporter for the Coastal Observer in Pawleys Island. He was co-author of "Paddling South Carolina." His short story "Marrying Aunt Sadie" was published in "New Stories From The South." He was chief writer and editor of "Irmo and The Dutch Fork Legacy."
Surviving are his daughter, Michelle Able of Barnwell; three sisters, Priscilla B. Lyons of Yemassee, Jackie Able of West Columbia and Nickolas A. Withrow of Irmo.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Sauls Funeral Home.

Pearl Barrow
EASTOVER - Mrs. Pearl Barrow of 138 Menden Hall Road, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Welsh's Cemetery on Stanback Road in Chester, with the Rev. William Abell officiating.
A native of State Line, Miss., Mrs. Barrow was a daughter of the late Frank Simpson and Dennie Ellis Fields. She graduated from Mississippi public schools. She was a seamstress and a home-care attendant before retiring. She was an American Red Cross volunteer and worked for the board of registration in New York City. She was the widow of Jack Mavins.
Surviving are her husband, George Barrow of New York City; her son, Alfred McDonald of State Line; two granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel of Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

Dennie Boheler
CLOVER - Mr. Dennie Charles Boheler, 49, of 2750 Boheler Road died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
A native of York County, Mr. Boheler was a son of the late Howard Henry Boheler and Ora Lee Brakefield Boheler.
Surviving are his wife, Lonie Dover Boheler of York; two daughters, Denise B. White and Kelly Boheler, both of Clover; three brothers, Ronnie Boheler of Blacksburg and Roger Boheler and Wayne Boheler, both of Clover; his sister, Gaye B. Smith of Clover; and his grandson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

GASTONIA, N.C. - Miss Anna Louise Burris, 35, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
