SMYRNA - Ms. Etta Evelyn Batchelor, 84, of 1369 McGill Highway died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at home.
The funeral service will be
3 p.m. Saturday at Canaan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Cleveland County, N.C., Ms. Batchelor was a daughter of the late Dawson World Batchelor and Mattie Vassey Batchelor. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Era B. Humphries of Hickory Grove and Mable B. Bolin of Smyrna.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg, and at other times at home.

Isaac Caldwell Sr.
RICHBURG - Mr. Isaac "Bubba" Caldwell Sr., 74, of 4684 Gaston Caldwell Road died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Loving Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.J. Baxter officiating and the Revs. Moses Hayes and Oliver Royal assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Caldwell was a son of the late Rev. Moses Caldwell and Lillian Raleigh Caldwell. He was a member of Loving Charity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He attended the public schools of Chester County and was retired from Darby's Well Drilling Co.
Surviving are his wife, Allea Simpson Caldwell; his son, Isaac Caldwell Jr. of the home; three daughters, Eliza Ann Colvin, Margie Williams and Mary C. Stallworth, all of Richburg; his brother, Joe Caldwell of Concord, N.C.; his sister, Laura Caldwell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home.
The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 to noon Sunday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Arbutus Catoe
KERSHAW - Mrs. Arbutus Faile Catoe, 86, of 7958 Old Jefferson Highway died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
A graveside service will be
11 a.m. Saturday at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Randall Runion officiating.
A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Catoe was a daughter of the late Leonard Thornwell Faile and Frances Hunter Faile. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where she was a teacher. She was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and was a member of the W.M.U. and the senior adults. She was a retired cafeteria operator for the Lancaster County school district.
Surviving are her son, Keith J. Catoe of Kershaw; her daughter, Sara Hinson of Kershaw; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and at other times at the home of Charles and Sara Hinson, 7818 Old Jefferson Hwy.
Memorials may be made to Midway Baptist Church, Summer Mission Team, 4322 Payne Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Esther Dawkins
WAXHAW, N.C. - Mrs. Esther Simpson Dawkins, 75, of 10703 Waxhaw Highway died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Presbyterian Matthews Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wolfe Funeral Home, Fort Mill, with the Revs. Al Brigman Jr. and Al Brigman Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.
A native of Cabarrus County, N.C., Mrs. Dawkins was a daughter of the late Cleveland Simpson and Mae Atkinson. She was retired from Family Dollar stores. She was the widow of Sammie Dawkins.
Surviving are her son, Gary Dawkins of Waxhaw; two daughters, Dianne Taylor of Charlotte and Susan Dawkins Pruitt of Matthews, N.C.; her brother, Robert Norman Simpson of Clover; her sister, Pauline Little of Indian Land; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Lindsey Chambers
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lindsey Scruggs Chambers, 74, of 72 Reynolds St. died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church in Newport, with the Rev. Ronnie L. Baxter officiating and the Revs. Daniel Chisholm, Derrick Bolton and Jerry Belton assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Chambers was a daughter of the late Dan Scruggs Sr. and Mae Ella Scruggs. She attended Fairfield County public schools. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she sang in the hymn choir. She was the widow of John Chambers.
Surviving are four sons, James Horace Scruggs and Robert Lee Scruggs, both of Rock Hill, John Willie Chambers of Columbia and Robert Pendergrass Jr. of McCormick; three daughters, Cleola P. Killian, Viola Pender-grass and Rosa Mae Pendergrass, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Rosa S. Holmes of Blair and Viola S. Hurt of Rock Hill; her brother, Dan Scruggs Jr. of Rock Hill; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.

Wilma Gore
CHERRYVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Wilma Lee Brown Gore, 48, of the Century Care Nursing Center, formerly of York, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at home.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Alexander Love Highway, York.
A native of Sharon, Mrs. Gore was a daughter of the late Clem Brown Sr. and Ella Lee Brown Barber. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a 1971 graduate of York Comprehensive High School and worked for the former Cannon Mills of York.
Surviving are her son, Myron C. Brown of York; her daughter, Shamva B. Burris of York; five brothers, Thornia Brown, the Rev. Edward Brown, Larry C. Brown, John W. Brown and Robert McClure, all of Rock Hill; three sisters, the Rev. Blanche L. Jamerson and Leona S. Thompson, both of York, and Ella M. Allison of Gastonia, N.C.; and two grandchildren whom she reared, Ishida A. Burris and Imari Burris, both of York.
Wright Funeral Home, York, is in charge.

Margaret Douglas
BLACKSTOCK - Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth McWatters Douglas, 83, of 2657 Shannon Road died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Lancaster Convalescent Center in Lancaster.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Catholic Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Forrest Musselman and Joel Rhyner officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A native of Fort Lawn, Mrs. Douglas was a daughter of the late Sylvester Scott McWatters and Betty Kirkpatrick McCarley McWatters. She was a homemaker and was a member of Catholic Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Blackstock High School. She was the widow of Robert William Douglas Sr.
Surviving are her son, Robert W. Douglas Jr. of Blackstock; three daughters, Etta Mae Douglas of West Lancaster and Margaret Douglas Hunter and Grace Douglas Boyd, both of Blackstock; her sister, Jessie McWatters Bagley of Blackstock; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Home, Chester.

Jack Kimbrell
ROCK HILL - Mr. Jack Hamilton Kimbrell, 77, of 1211 Meadowlakes Road died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
A graveside service will be
3 p.m. today at Grandview Mem-orial Park.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Kimbrell was a son of the late Austin E. Kimbrell and Vivian Hamilton Kimbrell. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Elks Club. He was the owner of Stars and Bars Clothing Store and the Disabled American Veterans Club in Rock Hill. He sold insurance for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Rudder Kimbrell; his son, Jack C. Kimbrell of Rock Hill; three daughters, Donna M. Kimbrell, Sandy K. Yarborough and Karyn I. Kimbrell, all of Fort Mill; two sisters, Virginia Kimbrell and Mickey K. Michaels, both of York; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 today at Bass Funeral Home.

William Smith
BLACKSBURG - Mr. William Carl Smith, 72, of 509 Indian Springs Road died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Eastside Baptist Church, with Dr. Marnese Hampton and the Rev. James Price officiating. Burial will be at Clingman Memorial Gardens.
A native of York County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late James Walter Smith and Macey Ramsey Smith. He was a retired textile worker in the paint and dye department. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and was a former deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Campbell Smith; two sons, William L. Smith and David L. Smith, both of Blacksburg; two daughters, Annette S. Hamilton of Charlotte and Sue S. Gregory of York; two brothers, John Smith of Blacks-burg and Charles Wesley Smith of Smyrna; five sisters, Doris Comer and Margie Smarr, both of Hickory Grove, Inez Adair of Rock Hill, Francis Moore of Blacksburg and Mary Ellen Rollins of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Nancy Ratterree
CATAWBA - Mrs. Nancy Giles Ratterree, 73, of 5000 Roddey Road died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
The funeral service will be
2 p.m today at Roddey Baptist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Mor-row officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Indian Land, Mrs. Ratterree was a daughter of the late Arthur Steven Giles and Isabell Railey Giles. She was retired from Everlock in Pineville, N.C., with 23 years of service. She was a member of Roddey Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, David F. Ratterree Sr.; her son, David F. Ratterree Jr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Janet R. Hearn of Catawba; her brother, Arthur Ray Giles of Fort Mill; three grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at home.

Stanley Yongue
CHESTER - Mr. Stanley Wellington Yongue, 82, of 614 Fernwood Drive died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. David Levister officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Yongue was a son of the late Brooks Neal Yongue and Essie Varnadore Yongue. He was retired from Shugart Manufacturing Co. and graduated from Chester High School. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He was the widower of Bessie Peak Yongue.
Surviving are his daughter, Shirley W. Tidwell of Chester; his brother, Jesse Thomas "Tom" Yongue of Chester; his sister, Essie Yarborough of Richburg; and his granddaughter.

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. - Mr. Al Hessenthaler, 79, of 8901 Ford Ave., formerly of Catawba, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Ga.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Richmond Hill United Methodist Church. Burial with military rites will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Catawba United Methodist Church cemetery in Catawba.
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Hessenthaler was a retired mechanical planner for Bowater. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Richmond Hill United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, and of Catawba United Methodist Church. He was a member of VFW Post 2889 in Rock Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Murphy Hessenthaler; three daughters, Betty Rockholt and Margaret-Ann Hessenthaler Riemenschneider, both of Rock Hill, and Shelly Peay of Richmond Hill; his stepson, David Murphy of Richmond Hill; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the burial.

LANCASTER - Mrs. Aliene H. Plyler, 91, of 404 Nichols Road died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Rev. N.J. Neeley officiating. Burial will be at the Hopewell United Methodist Church cemetery.
A native of Tradesville, Mrs. Plyler was a daughter of the late Rupert B. Hegler and Mamie Arant Hegler. She was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries. She was the widow of Alvis "A.B." Plyler.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary P. Duncan of Surfside Beach; her brother, Robert B. Hegler of Lancaster; her sister, Mary Helen Parker of Lancaster; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at home.

Nora Walters
MONROE, N.C. - Mrs. Nora Winchester Carpenter Walters, 91, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Union Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park.
A native of Union County, Mrs. Walters was a daughter of the late George Winchester and Rilla Hinson Winchester. She was a retired dietician with the Union County public schools. She was a member of Benton Heights United Methodist Church and the Waxhaw Eastern Star.
Surviving are her son, Dowd W. Laney of Lexington Park, Md.; two daughters, Ruth Laney Crocker of Fort Mill and Brenda Honeycutt of Albemarle, N.C.; her brother, Plato Winchester of Mineral Springs, N.C.; her sister, Nancy Starnes of Mineral Springs; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Gordon Funeral Service.
