ROCK HILL - Mr. John William "Rocky" Johnson, 39, of 1590 Reservation Road died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Westside Cemetery in Lancaster, with the Rev. Eddie Williams officiating.
A native of Atlanta, Mr. Johnson was a son of Joseph O. Johnson Jr. and Chucketta J. Ammons of Rock Hill. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his daughter, Sara Hope Johnson of Rock Hill; two brothers, Joseph O. "Dale" Johnson III of York and Alan Stikeleather of Rock Hill; and his sister, Kim Privette of Fort Mill.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Elizabeth King
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elizabeth A. "Lib" King of 210 Epting St. died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.S. Sanders Sr. officiating and the Revs. Hattie Foster and Earl Morrison and Evangelist Sandra Morrison assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of York County, Mrs. King was a daughter of the late Thomas Minton and Louise Kennedy Minton. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and attended the York County public schools. She was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School.
Surviving are her husband, David King Jr.; her daughter, Cassandra K. Douglas of Rock Hill; four brothers, Thomas Minton, Johnny Minton, Willie E. Minton and Ernest Lee King, all of Rock Hill; seven sisters, Alise Mobley of McConnells, Willie Mae Kennedy, Catherine Kennedy, Fannie Hinton, Alice Miller and Mattie Nash Hall, all of Rock Hill, and Maggie Dye of New York; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home.
Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Wesley
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mrs. Mary Jane Wesley, formerly of Clover, died Friday, June 8, 2001, in Alexandria.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
Surviving are four daughters, Sylvia Wesley, Lavern Johnson, Brenda Clark and Tina Wesley, all of Alexandria; five sons, Paul Wesley, Dennis Starr, Calvin Wesley, Roger Wesley, all of Alexandria, Va., and Napoleon Gilliam of Gastonia, N.C.; three sisters, Minnie Oliver of Portchester, N.Y., and Cora Fyre and Linda Starr, both of Alexandria; seven brothers, Joe Starr of New York, Frank Starr and Carl Starr, both of Alexandria, the Rev. Willie Starr and Larry Starr, both of Clover, Sherman Starr of Rock Hill and James Starr of Columbia; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Lewis Funeral Home, Alexandria, is in charge.
Wright Funeral Home in York is in charge of local arrangements.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Richard Page, 64, of 337-A N. Jones Ave. died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Gethsemane Church, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of York County, Mr. Page was a son of the late Theodore Page and Jannie Robinson Page. He attended Emmett Scott High School and worked for Steward and Ramseur as a roofer.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Page; his son, Rickie Page of New York; four brothers, Theodore Page Jr. of Queen Village, N.Y., Canell Moffate of Rock Hill and Dexter Page and Dennis Page, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Rubye Jemmott of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sylvia Brown of Rock Hill; his stepmother, Alberta B. Page of Rock Hill; his half brother, Clarence Brice of Rock Hill; three half sisters, Linda B. Gaston and Sandra B. Littlejohn, both of Rock Hill, and Karen B. Perry of Charlotte.
Parker Funeral Home is in charge.

Inez Boozer
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Inez Mintz Boozer, 84, of 2562 Mount Gallant Road died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at India Hook United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William F. Heustess officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ebenezer ARP Church cemetery.

A native of Parksville, Tenn., Mrs. Boozer was a daughter of the late William Drayton Mintz and Maida Steele Mintz. Mrs. Boozer was retired from the Rock Hill school district as head dietitian at Rosewood Elementary School. She was a member of India Hook United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years, where she was a member of the Branche-Cannon Sunday school class and the 49ers senior citizens group. She was the widow of William C. Boozer Sr.

Surviving are two sons, W.C. Boozer Jr. of Bostic, N.C., and Larry M. Boozer of Rock Hill; her brother, Harold Steele Mintz of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Alva Canty

ROCK HILL - Mr. Alva B. Canty, 57, of 3221 Lesslie Highway died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles LaFoy officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Canty was a son of the late Henry Issac Canty and Artie George Canty. He was retired from Flowe's Construction Co. in Charlotte and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catawba Ward.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Reynolds of Lando; four brothers, James Canty of Chester, Bobby Canty of Lyman and Leonard Canty and Marion Canty, both of Rock Hill; four sisters, Stella Stokes, Nellie Gunn, Teresa Canty and Emiley Rabon, all of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and his companion, Rosa Lowery of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel.

Alice E. Scoggins

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Alice Edwards Scoggins, 86, of 1037 College Ave. died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at home.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodland United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Cooper Stonestreet, Donald T. Scoggins and Carolyn Gesche officiating. Burial will be at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Scoggins was a daughter of the late Matthew Thomas Edwards and Minnie Hunter Edwards. She attended Rock Hill and Fort Mill schools.

She was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co., where she was a secretary in the shipping department. She was a longtime member of the Woodland United Methodist Church. She was a previous member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church. She was the widow of R. Glenn Scoggins.

Surviving are two sons, Robert G. Scoggins Jr. of McConnells and John L. Scoggins of Marietta, Ga.; her daughter, Susan S. Harmon of Greenville; two sisters, Ruby Cornwell and Hattie Bigger, both of Rock Hill; her brother, Robert Edwards of Waycross, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at home.

David Dixon

CLOVER - Mr. David Louis Dixon, 48, of 2435 Wavy Oak Road died Friday, June 15, 2001.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Alexander Love Highway, York, with George Pugh officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Dixon was a son of the late J.C. Dixon and Carrie Sims Dixon.

Surviving are two brothers, Willie James Dixon and John H. Dixon, both of Clover; and two sisters, Julia Withers of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Eleanor Cannon of Newberry.

Wright Funeral Home is in charge.

Shelia Welch

SHARON - Mrs. Shelia Funderburke Welch, 39, of 665 N. Burris Road died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Mercy Hospital South in Pineville, N.C.

A graveside service will be at a later date.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Welch was a daughter of Billy Eugene Funderburke of Crouse, N.C., and the late Maudie Young Funderburke. She was employed by Synagro Water Technologies in Rock Hill.

Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Paul McAllister; her son, William Edward Welch of Mount Holly, N.C.; her daughter, Summer Michelle Ross of Myrtle Beach; her brother, Roger Dale Funderburke of Lincolnton, N.C.; two sisters, Carol Kay Auten of Belmont, N.C., and Wanda S. Funderburke of Stanley; and her grandchild.

Memorials may be made to North Shore Animal League or Holy Angels, 6600 Wilkinson Blvd., Belmont, NC 28214.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia, N.C.

Phillip Harkins

LANCASTER -"Mr. Phillip James Harkins, 56, of 2115 Great Falls Highway, died Thursday, June 21, 2001 at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery in Pittsfield, Pa.

A native of Warren, Pa., Mr. Harkins was a son of the late James Gordon Harkins and Ann Logan Harkins. He worked for City Body Shop and was owner of Phil's Mopeds.

Surviving are his wife, Judy C. Harkins; his son, Steven Douglas Harkins of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Brenda Belardi of Swift Water, Pa., Patricia Harkins of Virginia Beach, Va., and Christine Harkins of Lancaster; three stepchildren, Richard Vettenburg, Tina Vettenburg and Sherrie Vettenburg, all of Corry, Pa.; his brother, John Harkins of Warren; three sisters, Barbara Bennett, Marie McMillen, both of Warren, Pa., and Cathy Stewart of Garland, Pa.; and 12 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home Lancaster Chapel, and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bracken Funeral Home in Corry.

Etta Batchelor
SMYRNA - Ms. Etta Evelyn Batchelor, 84, of 1369 McGill Highway died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at home.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Canaan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Cleveland County, N.C., Ms. Batchelor was a daughter of the late Dawson World Batchelor and Mattie Vassey Batchelor. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Era B. Humphries of Hickory Grove and Mable B. Bolin of Smyrna.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg, and at other times at home.

Isaac Caldwell Sr.

RICHBURG - Mr. Isaac "Bubba" Caldwell Sr., 74, of 4684 Gaston Caldwell Road died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Loving Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.J. Baxter officiating and the Revs. Moses Hayes and Oliver Royal assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Caldwell was a son of the late Rev. Moses Caldwell and Lillian Raleigh Caldwell. He was a member of Loving Charity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He attended the public schools of Chester County and was retired from Darby's Well Drilling Co.

Surviving are his wife, Allea Simpson Caldwell; his son, Isaac Caldwell Jr. of the home; three daughters, Eliza Ann Colvin, Margie Williams and Mary C. Stallworth, all of Richburg; his brother, Joe Caldwell of Concord, N.C.; his sister, Laura Caldwell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 to noon Sunday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Arbutus Catoe

KERSHAW - Mrs. Arbutus Faile Catoe, 86, of 7958 Old Jefferson Highway died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Randall Runion officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Catoe was a daughter of the late Leonard Thornwell Faile and Frances Hunter Faile. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where she was a teacher. She was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and was a member of the W.M.U. and the senior adults. She was a retired cafeteria operator for the Lancaster County school district.

Surviving are her son, Keith J. Catoe of Kershaw; her daughter, Sara Hinson of Kershaw; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and at other times at the home of Charles and Sara Hinson, 7818 Old Jefferson Hwy.

Esther Dawkins

WAXHAW, N.C. - Mrs. Esther Simpson Dawkins, 75, of 10703 Waxhaw Highway died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Presbyterian Matthews Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wolfe Funeral Home, Fort Mill, with the Revs. Al Brigman Jr. and Al Brigman Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Cabarrus County, N.C., Mrs. Dawkins was a daughter of the late Cleveland Simpson and Mae Atkinson. She was retired from Family Dollar stores. She was the widow of Sammie Dawkins.

Surviving are her son, Gary Dawkins of Waxhaw; two daughters, Dianne Taylor of Charlotte and Susan Dawkins Pruitt of Matthews, N.C.; her brother, Robert Norman Simpson of Clover; her sister, Pauline Little of Indian Land; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home.

Lindsey Chambers

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lindsey Scruggs Chambers, 74, of 72 Reynolds St. died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church in Newport, with the Rev. Ronnie L. Baxter officiating and the Revs. Daniel Chishlom, Derrick Bolton and Jerry Belton assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Chambers was a daughter of the late Dan Scruggs Sr. and Mae Ella Scruggs. She attended Fairfield County public schools. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she sang in the hymn choir. She was the widow of John Chambers.

Surviving are four sons, James Horace Scruggs and Robert Lee Scruggs, both of Rock Hill, John Willie Chambers of Columbia and Robert Pendergrass Jr. of McCormick; three daughters, Cleola P. Killian, Viola Pender-grass and Rosa Mae Pendergrass, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Rosa S. Holmes of Blair and Viola S. Hurt of Rock Hill; her brother, Dan Scruggs Jr. of Rock Hill; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.
