Keith McManus

LANCASTER - Mr. Keith Aubrey McManus, 45, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. McManus was a son of Henry Wilson "Doe" McManus and Annie Faulkenberry McManus, both of Lancaster. He was a machine operator at Georgia Pacific. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Donna McManus West and Patricia McManus, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster, SC.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1180 Garnette Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Arthur L. Howell

ROCK HILL - The Rev. Dr. Arthur L. Howell of 741 Chipmeadow Lane died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Sherman B. McBeth Sr. officiating and the presiding elder, the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Snipes, and other pastors of the Lancaster District assisting.

Eulogy will be conducted by Bishop Joseph Johnson. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of York County, the Rev. Dr. Howell was a son of the late Frank Howell and Mary Crome Howell. A Marine veteran, he was a member of Steel Hill AME Zion Church. He was a member of Sterling Lodge No. 344 IBPOE of W. He was a member of Sons of the Light Masonic Lodge No. 35, Menzel Temple No. 35 and Daughters of Light No. 151 OES. He graduated from Allen University in Columbia. He was the pastor of Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church in Heath Springs.

Surviving are his wife, Delois D. Howell; two daughters, Michelle Howell of Rock Hill and Tonya Howell of Fort Mill; his brother, Michael Howell of Washington, D.C.; his sister, Diane Derricott of Washington, D.C.; three stepsons, John Harris of Rock Hill, Christopher Fleming of Wilmington, N.C., and Timothy Fleming of Charlotte; his stepdaughter, Manita Johnson of Monroe, N.C.; and 15 stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church. The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

James Keesee

CONROE, Texas - Mr. James R. Keesee of Conroe died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2000.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Conroe. Burial will be at Cashner Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Laura Russell Keesee, formerly of Rock Hill; his son, Charles Keesee; his daughter, Margaret Dinaioa; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Hospice in Conroe, Texas, 77305.

Elizabeth Ludwig

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elizabeth Leggett Ludwig, 83, of 1635 Spring-winds Drive died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A church service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Jersey City, N.J., Mrs. Ludwig was a daughter of the late John L. Leggett and Elizabeth Grace Leggett. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley W. Ludwig Sr.; two sons, Edward J. Ludwig of Rock Hill and Stanley J. Ludwig of Jersey City; her daughter, Carol Forenza of Ridgewood, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

A vigil will be 7 tonight, followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Carl Wilkes

CHESTER - Mr. Carl Land Wilkes, 61, of 514 Generation Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Chester County Hospital.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, with the Rev. Bill Stringfellow Jr. officiating and the Revs. W. E. Page and Moses Lightner assisting.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Wilkes was a son of the late Geneva Land Wilkes and Leco Small. He was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church. He worked for 10 years at the Chester Police Department and for 26 years at Zenith En-graving. He was a staff member of King's Funeral Home on Cemetery Street in Chester. He attended public schools of Chester County.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise H. Land; his son, Carl Michael Land of Chester; his daughter, Sandy L. Evans of Chester; six brothers, John Richard Wilkes, Clinso Land, Curtis Hardin, Floyd Hardin and Paul Lee Small, all of Chester, and Moses Hardin of Valdosta, Ga.; three sisters, Bessie M. Land, Ruth Liggins and Sarah Hardin, all of Chester; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Myrtle Tordoff

TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. - Ms. Myrtle Blanks Tordoff, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in South Pasadena.

The funeral was 10 a.m. Saturday at Davis C. Gross Funeral Home and Crematory.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Tordoff was a retired vault clerk for the former Union Trust National Bank in St. Petersburg. She was a member of Central christian Church and the Moose Lodge. She was an avid dancer at the Coliseum ballroom and the Gulfport Casino.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Strait of Spring Hill and Frank J. Strait of Citrus Heights, Calif.; one daughter, Sylvia Davis of Treasure Island, Fla.; one sister, Gladys Aldridge of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

David C. Gross Funeral Homes and Crematory, Central Ave. Chapel in St. Petersburg, is in charge.

Jacky Truesdale Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jacky Truesdale Sr. of 2756 S. Anderson Road died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Landsford, with the Rev. Allen Stewart officiating and the Rev, Johnny Worthy and Dr. Marian Crawford assisting. Burial will be at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Truesdale was a son of the late Mell Truesdale and Christine Stinson Truesdale. He was a member of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church. He attended public schools of York County and was a carpenter. (enjoyed playing the guitar)

Surviving are one son, Jacky Truesdale Jr. of York; two daughters, Mary Truesdale and Fashenia Weaver, both of York; four brothers, Melvin Truesdale and Willie Truesdale, both of Edgemoor, Floyd Truesdale of Catawba and Bobby Truesdale of Rock Hill; seven sisters, Ann Mackey, Diane Thompson and Debra Dunlap, all of Rock Hill, Mattie Mackey of Catawba, Denese Truesdale of Chester, Laverne Truesdale of Jefferson and Catherine Mackey of Charlotte; five grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Rachel Love

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Mrs. Rachel Love, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Simi Valley Hospital.

The funeral was Wednesday at Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary. Private burial followed at Eternal Valley Memorial Park.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Love was a daughter of Mary Josey and the late Louis Josey. She was a teacher's aide in special education for the Simi Valley school district. She was involved with the Royal Avenue Baptist Church. She was a Girl Scout trainer and worked with the Battered Women's Shelter.

Surviving in addition to her mother are three daughters, Martha Craig and Linda Sensing, both of Simi Valley, and Mary Haymaker of West Virginia; two brothers, Jack Josey of Kingston, Tenn., and Harvey Josey of Hollowrock, Tenn.; two sisters, Edith Young of Rock Hill and Elizabeth Hoke of Brandon, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Royal Avenue Baptist Church, 2369 Royal Ave., Simi Valley, CA 93065.

Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary is in charge.

Paul Parks Jr.

EDGEMOOR - Mr. Paul Thomas Parks Jr., 76, of 2884 Westbrook Road died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Bass Funeral Home Chapel.

A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Parks was a son of the late Paul T. Parks Sr. and Myrtle Spinks Parks. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a plant manager at J.P. Stevens, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sons, Paul Thomas Parks III of Casselberry, Fla., and Mike Williams of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Karen Mitchell of Mount Airy, N.C., Tamara Thompson of Casselberry and Kyle Boleman of Tampa, Fla.; his brother, Charles Parks of Calhoun Falls; his sister, Ethel Funderburk of Fort Mill; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Bass Funeral Home.

June Adams
ROCK HILL - Mrs. June L. Adams, 69, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, with Pastor Simms officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A native of Lipton, Tenn., Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Jim Livingston and Ester Mooney Livingston. She was the widow of Jack Barber Adams. She retired from M.F.B. Industries in Clover.

Surviving are her son, David Eugene Adams of Clover; three daughters, Kelly Rainey, Patsy D. Adams and Jackie Hoyle, all of Rock Hill; two brothers, Eugene Livingston and Jimmy Livingston, both of Charlotte; three sisters, Maggie Duncan of Daytona Beach, Fla., Helen Cole of Concord, N.C., and Estelle Buckhanon of Gadston, Ala., 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel.

William Allen Sr.

LITTLE RIVER - Mr. William Preston "Bill" Allen Sr., 68, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Living Water Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lebron Crisp officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Gardens in Charlotte, Mint Hill Section.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Allen was a son of the late Samuel B. Allen Sr. and Margaret Mullis Allen. He was retired from Duke Power Co. and was a member of Living Water Baptist Church. He was a former member of Moose Lodge No. 1113 in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ann Allen; two sons, William P. Allen Jr. of Concord, N.C., and Terry D. Allen of North Myrtle Beach; three daughters, Elizabeth Jordan of Charlotte, Donna Marie Hartis of Midland, N.C., and Sheila Lynn Brock of Clover; his brother, Samuel B. Allen Jr. of Satsuma, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Lee Funeral Home of Little River.

Odessa Carter

CHESTER - Mrs. Odessa M. Carter of 1760 Lowrys Road died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Christian Home Baptist church in Lowrys, with the pastor Rev. Lloyd Reid officiating and the Revs. Daniel Chisholm, George Lowry, Winfrey Crosby and Otha L. Smith assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Janie Taylor and Garfield Murray. She was the widow of Tommy Carter Jr. She attended Chester County public schools. She was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church. She was past mother of the usher board, past treasurer of the senior missionary, past president of the pastor aide and was past mother of the gospel choir.

Surviving are four sons, John Carter of Chester, Tommy Carter III of Summerville, the Rev. Donald Carter of Lowrys and Elijah Carter of Chester; six daughters, Daisy Wylie of Chester, Debra Carter and Janie Carter, both of the home, Brenda McCleave of McConnells, Laverne Macon of Chester and Angela Johnson of Rock Hill; 27 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The body will lie in state from 2:30 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of service.

Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, is in charge.

Jeweldean Brock

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Jeweldean "Gerri" Brock, 60, of 1115 Deerwood Court died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.
