Willie Hinton

ROCK HILL - Mr. Willie James Hinton of 2494 Twilight Road died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Raymond officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hinton was a son of the late Pete Hinton and Azalee R. Hinton. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Methodist Church and attended the public schools of York County.

Surviving are his wife, Brinnie J. Hinton; his son, Danny Hinton Sr. of Edgemoor; three sisters, Emma Durham of Rock Hill; and Marie Cunningham and Essie Lee Thomas, both of Newark, N.J.; and his grandson.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Jane Marinick

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Jane Musial Marinick, 80, of 2993 Van-Valin Drive died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Care Center of Carolina Village.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 4 p.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Pentis officiating. Burial will be Monday at Sunset Memorial Park in Feasterville, Pa.

A native of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Mrs. Marinick was a daughter of the late Stephen Musial and Mary Russin Musial. She was the widow of William Marinick.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Joyce Lepine of Rock Hill; her brother, Theodore C. Musial of Washington; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 1964 Bird St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middlesburg Drive, Suite 312, Columbia, SC 29204.

Verna Plaxco

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Verna Potter Plaxco, 97, of 400 Webber Road died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at White Oak Estates Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

A native of Spartanburg County, Mrs. Plaxco was a daughter of the late James A. and Mamie Harling Potter. She attended Salem United Methodist Church in Cowpens and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. She taught school in North and South Carolina and was a 1925 graduate of Winthrop College. She was the widow of John Calvin Plaxco.

Surviving are two sisters, Mamie Potter McClure of Lyman and Lizzie Potter Bailey of West Palm Beach, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Bobo Funeral Chapel in Spartanburg.

Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 5425 N. Main St., Cowpens, SC 29330.

Callie Roberson

FORT MILL Ð Mrs. Callie Roberson, 97, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at The Laurels in Pineville, N.C.

Arrangements will be announced by Wolfe Funeral Home.

Floree Robinson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Floree Perry Robinson of 352 Irwin St. died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Lee Chambers officiating and the Revs. J. Thomas Barber and A.J. Johnson assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Fairfield County, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late Robert Perry and Eliza McMullen Perry. She was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church where she served as an usher. She attended the public schools of Fairfield and York counties. She was the widow of Theodore Robinson.

Surviving are her son, David Lee Perry of Montgomery, Ala.; her stepson, Tommy Robinson of Rock Hill; two daughters, Annie May P. Conyers of Bronx, N.Y., and Beatrice Perry of Rock Hill; three brothers, David Perry and J.C. Perry, both of Rock Hill, and Anderson Perry of Buffalo, N.Y.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Friday.

Bobby Rumfelt

YORK - Mr. Bobby Dean Rumfelt, 39, of 803-A Turkey Creek Road died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Bratton Funeral Home.

Charlotte Shevlin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Charlotte Vivian Shevlin, 84, of 849 Lela Mae Court died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at home.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Neely's Creek ARP Church, with the Revs. Tim Bowen and Jan Senneker officiating.

A native of in McCook, Neb., Mrs. Shevlin was a daughter of the late Elmer Vandervort and Agnus Levona Charlet Vandervort. She was a member of Neely's Creek ARP Church and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Edward Elwood Shevlin.

Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Pender of Rock Hill, Joy Connor of Oroville, Calif., and Susan Frankenberg of Oxnard, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Elizabeth Slater

CHESTER - Mrs. Elizabeth Crosby Slater, 76, formerly of Chester, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Illinois.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Winnie Stewart

CLOVER - Mrs. Winnie Eldie Hullett Stewart, 95, of 286 Good Road died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Allison Creek Holiness Church, with the Revs. Charlie Dover and Joe Hickson officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. Stewart was a daughter of the late Mark Collins and Mary Hullett. She attended Allison Creek Holiness Church and was the oldest member at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Jessie A. Stewart.

Surviving are eight sons, Tracy Stewart, Pete Stewart, Mott Stewart, John Henry Stewart, Joe Stewart and Martin Stewart Jr., all of Clover, Rick Stewart of York and Tom Stewart of Stanley, N.C.; four daughters, Mary Childers of York, and Carrie Justice, May Joye and Margaret Childers, all of Clover; 59 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home and other times at the home of Carrie Justice, 509 Bethel St.

CHESTER - Mr. Tommy Lee "Head" Stroud, 56, of 5111/2 Dew St. died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Chester County Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Noah Tetreault

YORK - Noah David Tetreault, infant son of Roy Anthony Tetreault and Wendy Kay Frye Tetreault of 1634 Hunters Place Road, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Johnson City Specialty Hospital in Tennessee.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel with Dr. Shelton Sanford officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Dakota Tetreault of the home; and his sister, Savannah Tetreault of the home.

Visitation will be after the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Empty Arms at Piedmont Medical Center, 222 S. Herlong Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Janie Bailey
ROCK HILL - Mrs. Janie McMullen Bailey of 227 Roddey St. died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Catawba Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Revs. Dr. Robert Johnson, Mary B. Alston and Mary Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Catawba Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Bailey was a daughter of the late John McMullen and Katie Beckham McMullen. She attended the public schools of York County. She was the widow of Odell Bailey Sr.

Surviving are four sons, James Bailey, Odell Bailey, Willie Bailey and Thomas Bailey, all of Rock Hill; her daughter, Peggy Bailey of Rock Hill; her brother, Sammy Lee McMullen of Catawba; two sisters, Jessie McMullen Thompson and Helen McMullen, both of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her nephew whom she raised, James Robert McMullen.

The family will receive friends at the home and at 728 Grier St.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Eliza Clems

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Eliza Mae Lewis Clems, 102, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare Renaissance.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be at St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Lowrys.

Mrs. Clems was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Lowrys, Gethsemane Baptist Church in Charlotte, where she served as church mother and on the pastor's aide society and missionary society, and Reeder Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Sam Lewis and Calvin Lewis of Charlotte; four daughters, Eliza H. Worthy of Chester, Heneritta McClurkin of York, Roseitta Archie and Margaret Robbins of Charlotte; 37 grandchildren; 125 great-grandchildren; 119 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandson.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service Saturday.

King's Funeral Home, Charlotte, is in charge.

Calvin Culp Sr.

CHESTER - Mr. Calvin Lee Culp Sr. died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Harmony United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Rufus H. White and Charlie Stringfellow officiating. Burial will be at Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mr. Culp was a son of the late Charlie Culp Sr. and the late Geneva Gaston Culp.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lois Tidwell Culp of Richburg; five sons, Calvin Lee Culp Jr. of Texas, Marvin Levi Culp of Richburg, Bernard Leonard Culp of Chester, Anthony Luther Culp of Lancaster and Gregg Lamont Culp of Atlanta; five brothers, Otis Culp and Heyward Culp, both of Lancaster, Lawrence Culp of Edgemoor, William Culp of Great Falls and James Culp of Rock Hill; five sisters, Charlie Mae Stevenson, Betty Jean Young, Fannie Mae Baxter and Geneva Culp, all of Rock Hill, and Marguerite Pitts of New York; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Bernard and Tiffany Culp, 156 East Lacy St.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Christopher King's Funeral Home chapel, 703 Old York Road.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Cambrein Deer

ROCK HILL - Infant Cambrein Isaiah Deer died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Ruth Gordon

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Miss Ruth Jacklyn Gordon, 76, of 2578 West 5th St., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Burial was Wednesday at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Miss Gordon was a daughter of the late W.L. Gordon and Gertrude McCarthy Gordon.

Elizabeth Lake

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mrs. Elizabeth Roberta Gilmour Lake of Arbor Acres died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Fitzgerald Health Center.

A family graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Forsyth Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Lake was a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Abram David Pollock Gilmour and Elizabeth Monroe Taylor Gilmour. She attended Converse College in Spartanburg and studied abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and the Sorosis Club. She was a member of the Women of the First Presbyterian Church of Winston-Salem. She was the widow of the late Rev. Dr. Julian Lake.

Surviving are her son, Julian Gilmour Lake of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Lake Orr of Winston-Salem and Margaret Scott "Scottie" Lake Lindsay of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the services.

Memorials may be made to the Julian and Robert Lake Scholarship Fund at Davidson College, the Robert Lake Fund at First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem or the Mountain Retreat Association in Montreat, N.C., earmarked for Robert Lake Park.
