Minna Rice

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Minna Lee Boling Rice died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002 at Westminster Health Care.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Greenville County, Mrs. Rice was a daughter of the late Maude Harbin and John Thomas Boling Sr. She was a graduate of Limestone College and did graduate work at Furman University and Gardner Webb College. She taught at Parker, Wade Hampton and Berea high schools and night classes at Greenville Technical College. She was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday school class and a former Sunday school teacher. She was the widow of Richard M. Rice.

Surviving are four nieces and her nephew.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.

Ira Simpson Jr.

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. - Mr. W. Ira Simpson Jr., 76, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Park, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, with the Revs. Mike Whitson and Ed Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mr. Simpson was a son of the late William Ira Simpson Sr. and Lola Delphia Deese Simpson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer and the former owner and operator of Ira Simpson and Son's produce lot.

Surviving are his wife, Rachel Herron Simpson; four sons, Gary Simpson Sr. and Johnny Simpson, both of Indian Trail, Toby Simpson of Polkton, N.C., and Randy Simpson of Unionville, N.C.; five daughters, Judy Herron of York, Kathy Edwards of Rock Hill, Lisa Sepharom of Denver, N.C., and Vickie Simpson and Pam Stearns, both of Matthews, N.C.; five brothers, J.W. "Dub" Simpson, Van Simpson, Phillip Simpson, Darrell Simpson and Bruce Simpson, all of Indian Trail,; five sisters, Marie Walters, Janie Baucom, Libby Williams, Dean Carter and Sandy Baird, all of Indian Trail; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, P.O. Box 549, Indian Trail, N.C. 28079.

William Wright

NORWAY - Mr. William Leslie Wright, 69, of 189 Springflower Drive died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, with the Rev. Dwight Morgan officiating.

A native of Chester, Mr. Wright was a son of the late Irby Thomas Wright and Margaret Bigham Wright. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He attended Willow Swamp Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are three sons, William Thomas Wright of Lake Forest, Calif., Michael Wesley Wright of Benicia, Calif., and Patrick L. Wright of Long Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Barron Funeral Home is in charge.

Pauline Boone
CLOVER - Ms. Pauline Fowler Boone, 82, of 2239 Cabe Road died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Arrangements will be announced by Sisk-Butler Funeral home in Bessemer City, N.C.

Ray Culp

LANCASTER - Mr. Ray M. "Tootsie" Culp, 72, of 626 Gillsbrook Road died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Westside City Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Taylor officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Culp was a son of Louetta Arant Culp of the home and the late Melvin Hunter Culp. Mr. Culp was a retired car salesman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters, Carol C. Williams and Lynda C. Lingle, both of Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Hartley Funeral Home is in charge.

Willie Deas

CHERAW - Mrs. Willie Mae Deas, 74, of Route 2, formerly of Lancaster, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Regency Hospital in Florence.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Rommy Mullis officiating. Burial will be at DeKalb Baptist Church Cemetery in Camden.

Mrs. Deas was a daughter of the late Willie T. Roberts and Nina Ellis Roberts. A homemaker, she was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Deas; her son, Joseph M. Deas of Lancaster; three daughters, Karen Deas of Kershaw, Janice Flowers of Richburg and Elaine Stogner of Cheraw; two brothers, Willie F. Roberts of Lancaster and Paul Roberts of Heath Springs; five sisters, Cleo Holden of Kershaw, Eloise Robinson of Cassatt, Rose Timmons of Fort Lawn, Elevelyn McManus of Fort Mill and Peggy Austin of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Grady Ernandez

RICHBURG - Mr. Grady B. Ernandez, 87, of 3979 Wylies Mill Road died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Lando Baptist Church, with the Revs. Richard Harrison and Bob Porterfield officiating. Burial will be at Union ARP Church cemetery.

A native of South Carolina, Mr. Ernandez was a son of the late Will B. Ernandez and Madge Laney Ernandez. He was a member of Lando Baptist Church and formerly served as a deacon. He was a member emeritus of Richburg Masonic Lodge No. 89.

Surviving are his wife, Plummie B. Ernandez; his daughter, Nancy E. Coleman of Richburg; three brothers, Norman Ernandez of Chester, Tony Ernandez and Laney "Mouse" Ernandez, both of Edgemoor; his sister, Faye E. Grubbs of Olar; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Irene Faile

LANCASTER - Mrs. Irene Linton Faile, 65, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at High Point Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall White officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Faile was a daughter of the late Charles William Linton and Bertha Estelle Dixon Linton. She was retired from Springs Industries Lancaster Plant and was a member of High Point Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Charles F. Faile Sr. of the home; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Faile Jr. and Martin "Marty" R. Faile, both of Lancaster; three daughters, Debra F. Strickland of Kannapolis, N.C., Denise F. Sims of Kershaw and Patty F. Wrobel of Lancaster; two brothers, William A. Linton of McBee and Gene Linton of Kannapolis; four sisters, Iona Mae Linton, Myrtle Dixon and Oleta Hoffman, all of McBee, and Alma Kelly of Kannapolis; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home and other times at the home of Patty Wrobel, 1580 Herschel Plyler Road.

Roger Fisk III

DRACULA, Ga. - Mr. Roger Allen Fisk III, 24, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Ga., with the Rev. Mark Chandler officiating. Burial will be at Ewing Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawrenceville.

Mr. Fisk was a pipeline construction worker.

Surviving are his parents, Roger Fisk and Jo Anne Fisk; his brother, Randall Fisk of Dracula; his sister, Candy Fisk of Dracula; and his grandparents, Roger A. Fisk Sr. and Janice Fisk of Acworth, Ga., and Paul and Elizabeth Strait of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Janet Gardner

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Janet Rabon Gardner, 68, of 1112 Lesslie Trail Drive died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. David Taylor officiating.

A native of Lugoff, Mrs. Gardner was a daughter of the late Ben Tillman Rabon and Maude Hinson Rabon. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are her husband, Gene Gardner Sr.; her son, Gene Gardner Jr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Karen Gardner Coble of Rock Hill; her brother, Bobby Rabon of Bonneau; her sister, Doris Rabon Purkypile of Eureka, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home Rock Hill Chapel.

Lillie Helms

LANCASTER - Mrs. Lillie Mae Hinson Helms, 85, of 114 Chesterfield Ave. died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Lancaster First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Rob O'Neal and Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Helms was a daughter of the late George Edward Hinson and Lillie Mae Stogner Hinson. She was a member of Lancaster First Baptist Church. She was the widow of William Reese Helms.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan H. Hinson of Lancaster and Janet H. Stanley of Sumter; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

EDGEMOOR - Mr. Willie James Hinton of 2494 Twilight Road died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at home.

Mary Lamb

CHAPIN - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ballard Lamb, 73, of 1533 Wonder Drive died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Gil Kenney officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Lamb was a daughter of the late Walter Furman Ballard and Reatha Locklair Ballard. She was of the Church of God faith. She was the widow of Lloyd Lamb Sr.

Surviving are five sons, Michael "Mike" Wayne Lamb of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Robert "Bob" David Lamb of Athens, Ga., Lloyd "James" Lamb and Wallace "Larry" Lamb, both of Rock Hill, and Christopher "Chris" Joseph Lamb of Fort Mill; her daughter, Julia "Judy" Lamb Cabaniss of Chapin; her brother, Jimmy Ballard of Rock Hill; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 tonight and other times at the home of Chris Lamb, 1501 Business Hwy. 21.

Jane Marinick

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Jane Musial Marinick, 80, of 2993 Van-Valin Drive died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Carolina Village Health and Rehab Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Byron Oldham

LANCASTER - Mr. Byron Bowen Oldham, 66, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be at a later date in Pinehurst, N.C.

A native of Pinehurst, Mr. Oldham was a son of the late Donald Campbell Oldham and Fannie Alma Bosworth Oldham. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are six brothers, Ralph Oldham of West End, N.C., Wayne Oldham of Aberdeen, N.C., Lloyd Oldham of Sedley, Va., Richard Oldham of Carthage, N.C., William Worth "Spud" Oldham of Martinez, Ga., and Donald Oldham of Pinehurst; and his sister, Raybe Revelle of Franklin, Va.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Emma Parker

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Emma Flint Parker, 74, of 1915 Ebenezer Road, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at White Oak Manor.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Drs. Shelton Sanford and Bill Fox officiating.

A native of York County, Mrs. Parker was a daughter of the late Harry Fisher Flint and Carrie Johnson Flint. Mrs. Parker was formerly employed as a secretary with Home Federal Bank. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with the music ministry, Women in the Church, and taught Sunday school.

Surviving are her husband, R. Sam Parker; her daughter, Pamela Parker Revels of Rock Hill; three brothers, Robert H. Flint and G. Patrick Flint, both of Rock Hill, and Rudy Flint of Gastonia, N.C.; and two sisters, Elsie Biggers of Clover and Melissa Harper of Durham, N.C.

The family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor.
