GREAT FALLS - Mr. Larry "Clinso" Lamar of the Mitford Community died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Winnsboro.

Arrangements will be announced by Washington Funeral Home.

Ruth Park

LANCASTER - Mrs. Ruth Blackmon Burnette Park, 87, of 133 Dixie Road died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church, with Dr. Rommy Mullis officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Park was a daughter of the late Edgar Clemson Blackmon and Daisy Jane Bowers Blackmon. She was retired as vice president from the former Central Carolina Bank. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer. She was the widow of Victor Carlyle Burnette and Fred C. Park.

Surviving are two sons, Douglas Carlyle Burnette of Lancaster and Charles Gilbert Burnette of Asheville, N.C.; her daughter, Victoria Burnette Chessher of Houston; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 934 Snow Drive, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Howell Payne

KERSHAW - Mr. Howell "Hal" Douglas Payne, 49, of 4799 Payne Road, died Sunday, April 6, 2003.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church, with the Revs. Randy Knight and Robert Jeske officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Payne was a son of Jesse Ben Payne and Mildred Phillips Payne of Kershaw. He was a team leader with the Printing and Finishing Department of Springs Industries in Rock Hill and was a member of Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church. He was a Marines Corps veteran.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Jeffrey Payne of Winnsboro and Karl Payne of Columbia.

Memorials may be made to Haile Gold Mine Baptist Church Building Fund, 7980 Haile Gold Mine Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster is in charge.

Ray Watts

LANCASTER - Mr. Ray Von Watts, 80, of 447 Paddock Place died Monday, April 7, 2003, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jack Nunn and Ben Metcalf officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mr. Watts was a son of the late Sammie Watts and Dora Horne Watts. He was a former partner with the AAA Appliance and TV and was a Mason with Hart Masonic Lodge 53. He was a former deacon at Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Blonnie Crook Watts; two sons, Randy Von Watts and Charles "Chuck" Ray Watts, both of Lancaster; two daughters, Brenda Watts Ledford and Roxanne Watts Fenchel, both of Lancaster; two sisters, Beulah McManus and Eula Helms, both of Lancaster; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Dale Baptist Church Building Fund, 133 S. Potter Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Hartley Funeral Home is in charge.

Christopher White

YORK - Mr. Christopher Ray White, 29, of 1080 Cedar Spring Road died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Phil Lemmons officiating.

A native of York, Mr. White was a son of the late Donald Ray White and Ruby Dover Horton. He worked for Southern Piedmont Piping in Lancaster.

Surviving are his wife, Julie Reid White; two daughters, Ashley White of Clover and Amber Passmore of the home; three brothers, Roger Ivey and Robert Ivey, both of York, and Edward Ivey of Spartanburg; his sister, Barbara Rose of Clover; his stepfather, Bobby Ivey of York; and his stepmother, Dollie Ivey of York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home and after the service at the home of Bobby and Dollie Ivey, 2104 Dodge Road.

James Carter
ROCK HILL - Mr. James H. Carter of 464 Frank St. died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

James Conrad Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James E. Conrad Sr., 72, of 5550 Williamson Road died Monday, April 7, 2003, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Linda Dunn officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Conrad was a son of the late R.A. Conrad and Carrie Swink Conrad. He was retired from the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. and attended Antioch United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Gladys Miller Conrad.

Surviving are his son, James "Jimmy" E. Conrad Jr. of Rock Hill; his brother, Robert Conrad of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Antioch United Methodist Church, 930 W. Rambo Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Jevon Marshall

WASHINGTON - Mr. Jevon Marshall of 3943 Pennsylvania Ave. died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

John McGarity Sr.

YORK - Mr. John Hamilton McGarity Sr., 85, of 111 S. Congress St. died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. J. Todd Speed officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. at Ebenezer ARP Church in Charlotte.

A native of Lewis Turnout, Mr. McGarity was a son of the late Augustus McGarity and Eva Courtney McGarity. He was retired from Southern Bell. He attended Duke University and was a graduate of Erskine College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was the widower of Martha Robertson McGarity.

Surviving are his son, John Hamilton "Ham" McGarity of McConnells; two daughters, Donna McGarity of W. Jefferson, N.C., and Jonna McGarity of Charlotte; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today in the church parlor.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Faith First, 10 W. Liberty St., York, SC 29745.

Arlene Mobley

CHESTER - Mrs. Arlene Blake Mobley, 88, of 114 Lincoln Court died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Black Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Wilson officiating and the Rev. Joseph Neal, and Evangelists Christine J. Blake and Genette Mackey assisting. Burial will be at Rehobeth AME Zion Church.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Mobley was a daughter of the late Wade Blake and Delia Washington Blake. She was a retired food service manager for Chester County schools. She was a member of Black Rock Baptist Church and attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for the Senior Citizens Council and the Chester County Nursing Center. She attended Chester County schools and graduated from Finley High School. She was the widow of Robert A. Mobley.

Surviving are three sons, Robert H. Mobley of West Orange, N.J., Kenneth Mobley of Chester and Craig Mobley of Los Angeles; her daughter, Betty M. Pierce of Martinez, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Denton Funeral Home.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Howell Payne

KERSHAW - Mr. Howell "Hal" Douglas Payne of 4799 Payne Road died Monday, April 7, 2003.

Ellen Plexico

CLINTON - Mrs. Ellen Burrus Hope Plexico, 93, of Clinton, formerly of Sharon, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Presbyterian Home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Sharon, with the Rev. James Gable officiating and the Rev. Clyde Mitchum assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Sharon, Mrs. Plexico was a daughter of the late Samuel Alexander Hope and Isabell Maloney Hope. She was a school teacher and was a postal worker at the Sharon post office. She also worked at First National Bank of Sharon. She was a member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Andral Bratton Plexico Sr.

Surviving are her son, Andral Bratton Plexico Jr. of Mebane, N.C.; her daughter, Molly Plexico Love of Woodruff; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home in York.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Revs. Pat Minihane, Jeff Williams and Ed Haynes officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Michaw was a daughter of the late W. L. Hinson and Mary Myrtle Adams Hinson Mangum. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Jason Phillip Michaw; five brothers, John Hinson, Wayne Hinson, William "Goat" Hinson Jr., Ricky Lynn Hinson and James Edward Hinson, all of Lancaster; four sisters, Millie Jean Hall, Brenda Kay White, Betty Rose Mangum and Mary Jane Williams.

The body will be placed in the home of Mary Jane Williams, 835 Dahlia Road, and will remain until one hour before the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.
