CLINTON - Mrs. Ellen Burrus Hope Plexico, 93, formerly of Sharon, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Presbyterian Home.

Arrangements will be announced by Bratton Funeral Home.

Timothy Owens Sr.

CHESTER - Mr. Timothy "Tim" Owens Sr., 57, of 1790 Baton Rouge Road died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Hope officiating and the Revs. Joseph Neal, Jerry Friday, James Owens and Joseph Stringfellow assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Owens was a son of the late T.W. Owens and Geraldine Feaster Owens. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, member of the senior choir, church treasurer, and founder and president of the Bethlehem Male Choir. He was a member of Cephas Masonic Lodge No. 320, AP&B Lodge No. 17, Hybrid Concept Program at Superior Essex in Chester and was a past member of the Men's Progressive Club. He attended Chester County schools and was a 1962 graduate of Finley High School and a 1967 graduate of Benedict College in Columbia. He attended York Technical College in Rock Hill. He was a former teacher in Candler, Ga., schools and retired from Essex Superior.

Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Owens; three sons, Timothy Bernard Owens of Snellville, Ga., Tyler Macon Owens and Brandon Taylor Owens, both of Chester; and two brothers, William Ralph Owens and Raymond Alford Owens, both of Chester.

The family will receive friends at home. The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

John Price

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Ray Price, 61, of 1641 Gordon Road died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bratton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Corder officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Price was a son of Etta Blackwell Price and the late Henry Jack Price. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He worked in textiles and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his brother, James Leroy Price of Middleton, Fla.; and three sisters, Harriett P. "Jo" Sullivan of Rock Hill, Mary J. Haynes of York and Joyce P. Mahaffey of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Home.

Carson Steen Jr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Carson S. Steen Jr., 62, of 2211 Great Falls Hwy. died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Grady Ghent officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Jefferson, Mr. Steen was a son of the late Woodrow Steen and Lillie Wright Steen. He was retired from Leigh High Steel and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of High Point Freewill Baptist Church and the American Legion Stafford-Graham Post No. 31.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Gainey Steen; five sons, Donnie Steen, Ronnie Steen, Joey Steen, Authur Steen and Jimmy Steen, all of Lancaster; his daughter, Barbara Steen Cagle of Lancaster; two brothers, Howard Steen and Dewey Steen, both of Lancaster; two sisters, Shirley Matthews and Judy Baldwin, both of Lancaster; 15 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home and other times at home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1142, Lancaster, SC 29720, or to the charity of one's choice.

Christopher White

YORK - Mr. Christopher White, 29, of 1080 Cedar Springs Road died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Arrangements will be announced by Bratton Funeral Home.

Charles Wingate

CHESTER - Mr. Charles Franklin Wingate, 68, of 100 Gaston St., Apt. 1, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at home.

A native of Cherryville, N.C., Mr. Wingate was a son of the late Adam Jack Wingate and Claramae Roberts Wingate. He was a Korean War veteran.

Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis W. Lucas of Chester; three sons, Mitchell Wingate and Kevin Wingate, both of Chester, and Chris Woods of Columbia; his grandchild; and his step-grandchild.

Arrangements will be announced by Wright's Home for Funerals.

David Walker

CHESTER - Mr. David Walker, 87, of 151 1/2 Gregg St. died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Cornelinas Dellas

ROCK HILL - Ms. Cornelinas Dellas, 85, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Friday, April 4, 2003, at White Oak Manor.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel.

Kirk Garner

BALTIMORE - Mr. Kirk Q. Garner died Tuesday, April 1, 2003.

Arrangements will be announced by Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

Annie Horton

BETHUNE - Mrs. Annie Laura Belk Horton, 73, of 5115 Raleys Mill Road died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Kershaw County Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Jefferson, with Dr. Clay Shook and Dr. Charles Rabon officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Gardens in Charlotte.

A native of Chesterfield County, Mrs. Horton was a daughter of the late James Austin Belk Sr. and Alice Loretta Catoe Belk. She was a graduate of Wingate College and Winthrop University. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Young At Heart and the WMU. She was a retired school teacher and seamstress. She was the widow of William Jackson Horton.

Surviving are two sons, Jackie Horton of Bethune and Bryant Horton of Clover; four daughters, Dawn Horton Reece of Indian Trail, N.C., Rhonda Horton Moore of McBee, Karen Horton of Bethune and Jane Horton Starr of Lancaster; two sisters, Ina Horton of Kershaw and Colleen Ogburn of Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home, Lancaster.

Birdie Hudson

LANCASTER - Mrs. Birdie Tillman Hudson, 80, of 1378 Grace Ave. died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in WinstonSalem, N.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at White Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Elton Lane, Don Coppedge and Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hudson was a daughter of the late P.A. Tillman and Ethel Hollis Tillman. She was a member of White Springs Baptist Church. She was a member of the senior adult choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was formerly active in the adult literacy program. She was the widow of Henry Paul Hudson.

Surviving are her son, Kenneth P. Hudson of Mooresville, N.C.; her daughter, Vivian Hudson Whitaker of Fort Lawn; her brother, T.W. Tillman of Columbia; her sister, Lois Tillman Ghent of Marshal, Texas; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home Lancaster Chapel and other times at home.

Kathleen Jackson

CHESTER - Mrs. Kathleen Robinson Jackson, 87, a resident of the Chester County Nursing Center, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Denton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jessey Boulware officiating. Burial will be at the Williamsville AME Zion Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Jackson was a daughter of the late Allen Robinson and Mary Robinson. She was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith. She attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are her son, Roosevelt "Peter" Jackson of Chester; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 132 Loomis St.

The body may be viewed at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Paul McNeill

PAWLEY'S ISLAND - Dr. Paul Wesley "Wes" McNeill, 71, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, with the Rev. Dr. J. Ben Sloan officiating. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery Mausoleum in Conway.

A native of Conway, Dr. McNeill was a son of the late Fred Oscar McNeill and Winnie Dane Dew McNeill. He received his master's degree from the University of South Carolina. He received his education specialist degree from the University of Louisville and earned a doctorate in education from the University of Kentucky. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from the Georgetown County school district. He was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. He also served as clerk of the session, chairman of the history committee and was a member of Preschool Board. He was a member and past president of the Pawley's Island Lions Club. He was campaign president for the United Way of Georgetown County. He was a founding member of the board of Habitat for Humanity.

Surviving are his wife, Ginger Fewell McNeill; his daughter, Molly McNeill of Pawley's Island; his brother, the Rev. Jim McNeil of Charleston; and three sisters, Winifred Caines, Dora Sandhu and Beth Stalbaum, all of Columbia.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Ethel Simpson Neely of 2314 Crestview Drive died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Emily Ray

LANCASTER - Mrs. Emily Mackey Elliott Ray, 82, of 2222 University Drive died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Minihane officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ray was a daughter of the late Stanley Pink Mackey and Minnie Bright Wolf Mackey.

Surviving are her husband, Willie J. Ray; her son, David Elliott Sr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Peggy A. Hargett of Lancaster and Judy Threatt of Charleston; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Peggy Hargett, 158 Blackmon Road.

Barbara Scott

COLUMBUS, N.J. - Mrs. Willa Barbara Wright Scott of 21 Country Lane died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Willingboro, N.J. Burial will be at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, N.J.

A native of York, Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late Paul Witherspoon and Mariah Vernon Wright. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She graduated from Jefferson High School in York and Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C. She also graduated from nursing school in Orangeburg, N.Y. She worked as a nurse in the Philadelphia school system.

Surviving are her husband, William Scott; her sister, Minnie W. Anderson of Hempstead, N.Y., and her brother, Paul Wright Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at W.R. Woody Funeral Home, 465 High St., Burlington, N.J., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Wright Funeral Home in York is in charge of local announcements.

H. Shelden Timmerman

SUMTER - Mr. H. Shelden Timmerman died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at home.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of the Holy Comforter, with the Rev. Mark Riggs officiating.

A native of Edgefield, Mr. Timmerman was a son of the late William Ryght and Marianne Cheatham Timmerman. He was a musician and was a piano performance major at Furman University. His graduate study was in piano pedagogy at St. Louis Institute of Music. He taught piano and directed the high school chorus at Denmark-Olar High School. He was minister of music at Sumter First Baptist Church. He established a private piano studio. He served as nationwide adjudicator of piano student auditions for the National Guild of Piano Teachers and conducted piano teacher workshops in several states. He was co-organizer, charter member and past president of the Sumter Piano Teachers Association. He served on the Community Concert Band of Directors, the Fine Arts Council of Sumter County and was accompanist and vocal coach for the Second Mill Singers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Comforter.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Gibson Timmerman; his son, Shelden Timmerman Jr. of Rock Hill; his daughter, Lesa Jean Timmerman of Columbia; his brother, John Albert Timmerman of Columbia; his sister, Sabrina Timmerman Walker of Chapin; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at home and in the Family Life Center of the church after the service.

Memorials may be made to the Music Endowment Fund of Oakland Baptist Church, 1067 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
