Willie Adams

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Willie "Tank" Adams of the Georgetown Community died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Central Carolina Health and Rehabilitation in Columbia.

The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at First Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. M.L. Golden officiating and the Revs. P. Hicklin and J. Gambrell assisting. The Rev. E. Jeter will conduct the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Great Falls, Mr. Adams was a son of the late Freddie Gaither Adams and Will Adams. He was the widower of Jessie Mae Watson Adams. He was a member of the First Mount Zion Baptist Church and was a member of the senior choir. He also was a member of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge No. 127 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 06938. He was a member of the Voter's League, Cairo Temple No. 125, Rocky Mount No. 14 Royal Arch Masons and Boaz Knights Temple Commandery No. 1. He attended the Chester County public schools. He was retired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Chester County Sheriff's Department.

Surviving are two sons, Frederick Adams of Great Falls and Jonathan Adams of Columbia; his daughter, Diane Bowden of Great Falls; his brother, Samuel Adams of Kannapolis, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren;

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Diane Adams Bowden, 5215 Bowden Road, Great Falls.

The body will be placed in the church 2 p.m. Saturday.

Esequiel Anaya Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Esequiel Anaya Jr., 29, of 793 Cedar Valley died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at home.

A native of Mexico, Mr. Anaya was a son of Esequiel Anaya and the late Juna Gonzales. He worked for Piedmont Interstate Warehouse.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Alma Gonzales; his son, Angel Gonzales of the home; two daughters, Claudia Gonzales and Jennifer Anaya, both of the home; three brothers, Joe Anaya of Oklahoma and Alfred Anaya of Mexico; three sisters, Marie Anaya and Marisol Anaya, both of Mexico and Mary Bell Anaya of Oregon.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home Rock Hill Chapel.

Bass-Cauthen Funeral Homes are in charge.

James Barrett

YORK - Mr. James Thomas Barrett , 73, of 565 Windy Hill Road died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Bratton Funeral Home.

Sara Blackwell

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Sara V. Blackwell, 93, of 113 St. Michael Ave. died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Howell officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Hartford, Tenn., Mrs. Blackwell was a daughter of the late James Isaac Valentine and Sara Katherine Smith Valentine. She was a member of Second Baptist Church. She was retired from J.P. Stevens. She attended the schools of Hartford. She was the widow of Carl Blackwell.

Surviving are her son, Richard Holt of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Betty Plyler of Lancaster and Dianne Morrison of Great Falls; two sisters, Lillian Evans of Maryville, Tenn., and Belvia McGill of Roseville, Mich.; two stepsons, Bobby Blackwell and Johnny Blackwell, both of Great Falls; four stepdaughters, Frances Temple and Eunice Carter, both of Great Falls, Elizabeth Beckham of Summerville and Evelyn Blackwell of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Joseph Gesell

SPARTANBURG - Mr. Joseph Michael Gesell, 38, of 1281 Bethesda Road died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at home.

A Celebration of His Life service will be noon Saturday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, with Father John Giuliani officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Milwaukee, Mr. Gesell was a son of Robert William and Mary Ann Schoemann Gesell of Rock Hill. He worked for AAA Tents & Party Rentals in Spartanburg and was a U.S. Marines veteran. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Joshua Michael Perez of Charlotte; four brothers, Peter Gesell of Gurnee, Ill., Bobby Gesell of Fort Mill, Billy Gesell of North Hollywood, Calif., and Jim Gesell of Rock Hill; four sisters, Patty Gesell, Catherine Williams and Mary Liaghat, all of Rock Hill, Ann Stern of Los Angeles.

The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 1628 Crestdale Road, Rock Hill.

Ralph Greene Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Ralph Greene Jr., 78, of 4555 McConnells Highway died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, with the Revs. Chip McArthur and George H. Schultz officiating.

A native of Shelby, N.C., Mr. Greene was a son of the late Ralph Greene Sr. and Vera Ada Fowler Greene. He was the widower of Sarah "Lavon" Blankenship Greene. He was a retired truck driver and farmer.

He was a member and deacon of Olivet Presbyterian Church. He also was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served with the 301st Regiment of the 94th Infantry Division of Europe and received the Bronze Star with "V" device, Good Conduct Medal, European Campaign Medal with three stars, World War II Victory Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation and Combat Infantry Badge.

Surviving are his son, Barry Greene of Rock Hill; his daughter, Karla Ratliff of Rock Hill; his brother, Erastus "Rass" Greene of Shelby; eight sisters, Lillian Floyd, Blanche Walker, Charleen Allen and Vera Weathers, all of Shelby, Doshia Clary and Annette Cooke, both of Greensboro, N.C., Lea Smith of Myrtle Beach and Joanne Luckadoo of Rocky Mountain, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, 1915 Steeplechase Drive in Rock Hill.

Billy Hinson Jr.

MIILLERS CREEK, N.C. - Mr. Billy Douglas "Doug" Hinson, Jr., 39, of Millard Lane died Monday, March 31, 2003.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Chapel in York, with the Revs. Rick Sturgis and Rick Martin officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Cemetery in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Millers Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jim Gore and Shannon Critcher officiating.

A native of Albany, Ga., Mr. Hinson was a son of Billy "Bill" Douglas Hinson Sr. of Lake Wylie and Anne Craig Hinson Duncan of Rock Hill. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of Millers Creek Baptist Church. He worked at Lowe's Companies.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Robin Darty Hinson; four sons, Billy Douglas Hinson III, T. C. Hinson, Trey Hinson and Zachary Hinson, all of the home; his daughter, Jeannie Nicole Hinson of the home; and his brother, Rick Hinson of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today before the service at Bratton Funeral Home.

Ronald Jackson

MACON, Ga. - Mr. Ronald David Jackson, 50, of Macon, died Thursday, April 3, 2003.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Rock Hill.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Jackson was a son of Donald McCain Jackson and the late Hellen Sauls Jackson.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Donna B. Jackson; and his son, James David Jackson of Macon.

Roosevelt McCollough

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Roosevelt Brown McCollough, 58, of Charlotte died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Zion Episcopal Methodist Ministry Cemetery in Lansford.

A native of Chester, Mr. McCollough was a son of the late Willie McCollough and Louise McCollough. He was a drywall specialist.

Surviving are three brothers, Billy McCollough of Lansford, James McCollough of Rock Hill and Thomas McCollough of Hyatteville, Md.; six sisters, Mattie B. Little and Willetta Thompson, both of Charlotte; Brenda McDow of Fort Lawn, Eva McCollough of Newark, N.J., Dorothy Curry and Ora Lee Barber, both of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mattie B. Little, 1215 Clanton Road, Charlotte and at the home of Brenda McDow, 5522 Hillsdale St., Fort Lawn.

Alzora Starnes

LANCASTER - Mrs. Alzora Bowers Starnes, 89, of 1599 Monroe Highway died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Shiloh Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. David Lauten and Wayne Dickson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Starnes was a daughter of the late Lewis Bowers and Annie Peach Bowers. She was retired from Springs Industries and was owner and operator, along with her son, of Starnes Grocery. She was a member of Shiloh Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas Cecil Starnes Jr. and Charles D. Starnes, both of Lancaster; three sisters, Inez B. English and Earlene Bailey, both of Lancaster and Willie B. Davis of Pawleys Island; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh ARP Church, 346 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Margie Sutton

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Margie Magdaline "Mag" Neeley Sutton, 74, of Rock Hill died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fort Mill Church of God, with the Rev. David Kemp and Mr. Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Kings Mountain, N.C., Mrs. Sutton was a daughter of the late Elisha Neeley and Molly Proctor Neeley. She was the widow of Lynwood E. Sutton and a member of Fort Mill Church of God.

Surviving are two sons, Leonard Wayne Sutton and Douglas Sutton, both of Rock Hill; four brothers, Dennis Neeley and Jimmy Neeley, both of Rock Hill, John Neeley of Fort Mill and Steve Neeley of Greenwood; four sisters, Betty Jo Therrell of Indian Land, Billie Plyler and Brenda Mullinax, both of Fort Mill and Virginia Mozelle Chrisley of Calhoun Falls; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and other times at the home of Douglas and Nancy Sutton, 2238 Veery Lane.

Erin Baker

CHESTER - Mrs. Erin Nicole Compton Baker, 22, of 1529 Going Road died Wednesday, April 2, 2003.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle Ministries Church, with the Revs. Kenneth Compton, Mike Suggs and Church Evans officiating.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Baker was a daughter of Bobby Lamar Compton and Janice Aldridge Compton of Chester. She attended Tabernacle Ministries. She was a waitress at Crossroads Restaurant. She attended Chester County schools.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Jason Baker, her son, Delmar Edward "Dale" Chriscoe IV; two daughters, Kelsey Nicole Baker and Blakelyn Alizabeth Nichols; her brother, Bobby Compton II of Christianburg, Va.; three sisters, Barbara C. Wilson, Sherri Compton Robinson and Christine Deanne Compton, all of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Frances Barber

ROCK HILL - Miss Frances L. Barber of 822 Brown St. died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Raymond officiating and the Revs. Delcine Dunham, Jacqueline Welcome and Betty Hicks assisting. Burial will be at Grand View Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Miss Barber was a daughter of Walter Reddic and Frances Barber Reddic. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and was president of the gospel choir. She was a member of the Voices of Pleasant Ridge and assisted with the J.R. Ezell Youth Choir. She was a member of YWA and the AP&B Society. She also was a member of Hornets' Nest Girl Scout Council of Charlotte. She attended York County schools and graduated from Rock Hill High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Winthrop University in business administration. She worked for Paxar Corp. in Rock Hill as a production leader.

Surviving are her son, Montrel T. McClanahan; two sisters, Tanzella Barber and Ann McCullough Robinson, both of Rock Hill; and her grandmother, Idell Barber of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at 2115 Cornelius Road.

The body will be viewed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Nathaniel Cunningham

LANCASTER - Mr. Nathaniel Cunningham, 75, died Sunday, March 30, 2003.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at David Stand AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Matthew Browning officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Cunningham was a son of Minnie Benson Cunningham of Lancaster and the late Willie Cunningham. He was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Mamie C. Cunningham; three sons, 1st Sgt. Lloyd Cunningham of Chicago, Darrel Lee Cunningham and Wayne D. Cunningham, both of Lancaster; eight daughters, Betty J. Burnett of Harrisburg, Pa., Clara B. Alston of Buffalo, N.Y., Charyell Wade, Marilyn Sue Kirkland, Ida Cunningham and Brenda Lorraine Patterson, all of Lancaster, Macie McDow of Charlotte and Debbie Fitts of Saluda; his brother, Oscar Cunningham of Charlotte; two sisters, Mary Crawford of Lancaster and Sara Taylor of Charlotte.
