Robert Howell

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Robert Gilbert "Bill" Howell, 76, of Charlotte died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral was Monday at Christ Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Bruce G. Garris and the Rev. Nathan Wheeler officiating. Burial was at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

Mr. Howell was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church. He worked at Southern Bakery and Merita Bread Co.

Surviving are his wife, Dora Catherine Howell; his brother, Donald F. Howell of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Evelyn Howell Lowery of Gaffney and Ruby Howell Burton of York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church, 2461 Arty Ave., Charlotte, NC 28208.

Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel was in charge.

Syble Jumper

YORK - Mrs. Syble Privette Jumper, 77, of York died Monday, March 31, 2003, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home Rock Hill Chapel. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of Great Falls, Mrs. Jumper was a daughter of the late Claude R. Privette and Bessie Threat Privette. She was retired from J.P. Stevens Industrial Plant. She was a carrier for The Herald.

Surviving are her husband, Donald M. Jumper; her daughter, Gloria H. Brown of Rock Hill; her sister, Estelle Webb of Henderson of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Barbara Scott

COLUMBUS, N.J. - Mrs. Willa Barbara Wright Scott of 21 Country Lane died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at home.

A native of York, Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late Paul Witherspoon and Mariah Vernon Wright.

Arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Mary Stewart

YORK - Mrs. Mary Willie Marshall Stewart, 64, of 123 Lowry Row died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Langrum Branch Baptist Church, with Dr. Osbey Roddey officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Bardstown, Ky., Mrs. Stewart was a daughter of the late Albert Marshall and Minnie Pearl Skinner Marshall. She was a member of the Langrum Branch Baptist Church and was a retired cafeteria cook for the York school district. She was the widow of Roosevelt C. Stewart.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Y. Marshall of Charlotte and Viola Thorne of York; her brother, Albert Marshall of Bardstown, Ky.; her sister, Flora Mae Ashford of Bardstown, Ky.; her stepson, Roosevelt C. Stewart Jr. of Atlanta; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. today.

Georgia Dickert

CLINTON - Ms. Georgia Dickert died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Presbyterian Home. She was 94.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery with the Rev. T. Mark Verdey officiating. Visitation will be after the service.

A native of Orangeburg, Miss Dickert was a daughter of the late George Killian and Cora Liton Dickert. She was valedictorian of the Rock Hill High School class of 1925, and received a bachelor's degree in music with honors from Converse College.

She taught piano for more than 60 years, was a life member and former president of the Rock Hill Music Club and founded the Juvenile Music Club. A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir, played the piano for Sunday school and was organist for a year.

Surviving are six nieces, including Sarah D. Carlisle of Tega Cay, and her nephew.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1011, Rock Hill, SC 29731 or to the Georgia B. Dickert Endowed Scholarship for piano students at Converse College, 580 Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.

Frances Barber

ROCK HILL - Miss Frances L. Barber of 822 Brown St. died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Oneita Beckham

LANCASTER - Miss Oneita Beckham, 95, of Lancaster died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill ARP Church in Heath Springs, with the Rev. William Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs.

A native of Heath Springs, Miss Beckham was a daughter of the late John Kennedy Beckham and Sarah Jane Marshall Beckham. She was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Hill ARP Church.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church and at other times at the home of her nephew, James Beckham, 324 Tram Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill ARP Church, 4283 Kershaw Camden Highway, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Evelyn Bennett

FORT MILL - Mrs. Evelyn Lowe Bennett, 66, of 109 W. Summersby St. died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.

Louise Cauthen

CAMDEN - Mrs. Louise Thompson Camden, 84, of Camden died Monday, March 31, 2003.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hermitage Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Camden, Mrs. Cauthen was a daughter of the late Clifford Boyd and Cora Lee Stewart Thompson. She was retired from Oxford Manufacturing Co.

Surviving are two sons, Boyce Cauthen of Rock Hill and Ed John Cauthen of Camden; her daughter, Lucy Perry of Camden; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Philip Caroselli

ROCK HILL - Mr. Filiteo "Philip" Richard Caroselli, 64, of Rock Hill, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at home.

A Catholic funeral liturgy will be 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Pentis officiating.

A native of Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Caroselli was a son of the late Filoteo "Philip" Caroselli and Mary Kuchar Caroselli. He was a retired accountant and was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Diana Innace Caroselli; three sons, Philip R. Caroselli of Budd Lake, N.J., Michael Caroselli of Rock Hill and Paul Caroselli of Danville, Ind.; his daughter, Christina Lako of Fort Mill; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill is in charge.

William Crosby

LANCASTER - Mr. William Crosby of 1314 Old Landsford Road died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Kenya Crosby, 134 Washington St., Great Falls.

Arrangements will be announced by Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.

Lloyd Dover

CLOVER - Mr. Lloyd Jackson Dover, 76, of 2421 Greenleaf Road died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Century Care in Cherryville, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

A native of York County, Mr. Dover was a son of the late William Thomas Dover and Lola Woods Dover. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Alliene Hull Dover.

Surviving are seven sons, Jack Dover, Bob Dover, Ray Dover, Scott Bradley, Roy Dover and Rick Dover, all of Clover, and William Dover of Blacksburg; his daughter, Frankie Cain of Clover; two stepdaughters, Colleen Young of Bessemer City, N.C., and Sue Thompson of Clover; two brothers, James N. Dover of Augusta, Ga., and Robert N. Dover of Clover; two sisters, Alice Robinson of Clover and Martha Smart of York; 24 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Homer Elwood Sr.

LOCKHART - Mr. Homer E. Elwood Sr., 82, of 105 S. 4th St. Ext. died Monday, March 31, 2003, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

A native of Colebrook, Ohio, Mr. Elwood was a son of the late Perry Jadee Elwood and Ruth Hill Elwood Hart. He was co-owner of Union Tool and Stamping and was the inventor and patent holder of the L-WOOD wood heater. He was a member of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge 244 and the Lockhart Senior Citizens Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post 76, the Hejaz Shrine Temple and was a former Scoutmaster of Lockhart Troop 45. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita Lee Elwood; his son, Homer E. Elwood Jr. of Laurens; four daughters, Loree E. Yarborough of Chester, Marjorie Childers of Union, Bonnie Crocker of Gaffney and Gina Harris of Lockhart; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the church.

CHESTER - Mr. Thomas James Holley, 63, of 2663 Ashford Road died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Boyce Robinson

LANCASTER - Mr. Boyce Alex Robinson, 81, of 3127 Flat Creek Road died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral was Monday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat Minihane officiating. Burial with fireman's honors was at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Robinson was a son of the late Coleman Labon Robinson and Ella Hunter Robinson. He owned and operated Robinson Chair Co. and then worked and retired from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. He was a founding member of the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, a Mason with Antioch Masonic Lodge 399 and an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Melba Knight Robinson; his son, David Robinson of Charlotte; his daughter, Myra Beacham of Lancaster; his sister, Ruth Ray of Lancaster; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Volunteer Fire Department, 3015 Taxhaw Road, Lancaster, SC or Antioch Baptist Church, Building Fund, 3052 Taxhaw Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Thomas Robinson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Wylie Robinson, 66, of 1667 Minnie Lane died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Revs. Rick Sturgis and Gary Huddleston officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Robinson was a son of the late Thomas Lewis Robinson and Annie Belle Barfield Robinson. He was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was retired from Celanese Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the American Legion and a Mason. He was the widower of Myrtle Agnes Thrift Thomas Robinson.

Surviving are four sons, Frank Thomas of York, and Gene Thomas, Reid Thomas and Michael Lee Thomas, all of Rock Hill; two daughters, Julie Carter and Carol Erieau Knight, both of York; his brother, Ray Robinson of Laurel, Md.; his sister, Brenda Brown of Rock Hill; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Frank Thomas, 325 John Thrift Road.
