BRONX, N.Y. — Elizabeth Hampton Tudor, 65, wife of Joseph Tudor, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y. Born Nov. 25, 1939, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Emanuel Hampton and Eva Peterson Hampton. The family will receive friends at the home of her aunt, Oillie Hampton, 5460 Neighborhood Road, in the Goodwill community of Mayesville. Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.

ROSETTA T. MYERS

The Rev. Rosetta Tucker Myers, 51, wife of George Myers Sr., died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her home. Born Sept. 16, 1948, in Richland County, she was a daughter of Rosa Lee Radical Tucker and the late Rev. Willie L. Tucker. She was a graduate of Webber High School in Eastover, and she attended Benedict College and Morris College School of Religion. She was a member and local elder of St. Paul AME Church. She was called into the ministry on Dec. 10, 1991, and was ordained by the Rev. John Hurst Adams, the presiding bishop of the 7th Episcopal district of the AME church. She was active in Relay for Life cancer support group and the Girl Scouts. She worked for Winn Dixie as a scanning pricing manager. Survivors besides her husband include two sons, George Myers Jr. and Vincent Myers, both of Sumter; a daughter, Tamara L. Myers of Sumter; two brothers, Frank Tucker and Phillip Tucker, both of Eastover; three sisters, Delores Weaver of Columbia, Willie L. Garvin of Eastover, and Ann Finley of Lexington; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul AME Church, with the Rev. Melvin Coleman, pastor, officiating. The Revs. Lou R. Pitts, Laddie Howard, James Glover, H.A. Hinton and M. Charmaine Ragin will assist. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The funeral cortege will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the home, 4910 John Franklin Road. The family will receive friends at the home. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

MANNING — Leon McLeod, 57, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1942, in Manning, he was a son of the late Lee Ernest McLeod and the late Sarah McLeod Rowland. He attended Clarendon County public schools and Ebenezer Baptist Church. Prior to retirement, he worked for Boeing. Survivors include two sisters, Leona Dye of Manning, and Sarah Medley of Philadelphia, Pa. He was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny McLeod. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Fleming-DeLaine Chapel, with the Rev. George P. Windley officiating, assisted by the Revs. Charles Smith and C. Richburg. LAKE CITY — James Montgomery, 65, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Born in Lake City, he was a son of Eloise M. Green and the late James Montgomery Sr. He was a graduate of Lake City High School. He moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where he worked and retired from K&D Clothing Factory. Mr. Montgomery was a member of Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church in Philadelphia . Survivors besides his mother of Lake City include four daughters, Frechetta Montgomery and Kim Montgomery, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Bridgett M. Cannon of Anderson, and Nichole Hunt of Simpsonville; a brother, Thomas Montgomery of Philadelphia; four sisters, Charlimae Cooper of Camden, N.J., Martha Jane Cameron of Palm Bay, Fla., Pansey Johnson of Philadelphia and Lillie B. Richardson of Lake City; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Holiness Church in the Indiantown community of Hemingway, with elder Earle McKenzie officiating. ALCOLU — Jesse Edward Richburg, 79, widower of Adell Harrington Richburg, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born May 8, 1921, in Manning, he was a son of the late William Arthur Richburg and the late Gertrude Ridgeway Richburg. Mr. Richburg was a World War II Army veteran, a retiree of Georgia-Pacific Corporation and a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church of Manning. Survivors include two sons, C. Wayne Richburg of Brunswick, Ga., and Johnny Richburg of Alcolu; a brother, C. Olden Richburg of Manning; two sisters, Jewel Lowder of Alcolu and Ruby Brown of Sumter; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. Carroll Waddell officiating. Burial will be in Clarendon Memorial Gardens in Manning. Russell Rodgers, 72, died Friday May 12, 2000, at his home. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Furman Rodgers and the late Irene Stokes Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers was a retired Navy yeoman third class with 30 years of service. Survivors include four brothers, Maxwell Rodgers, James Rodgers and Heyward Rodgers, all of Sumter, and John W. Rodgers of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Gladys DuBose of Bishopville and Betty Bradham of Sumter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Byron Rodgers and Ezra Rodgers; and a sister, Eunice Dubose. PINEWOOD — Evelyn Billie Taylor, 88, widow of John Taylor, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Eloe Billie Sr. and the late Leila Caldwell Billie. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She was affiliated with Mt. Pleasant RMUE Church, where she participated in adult Sunday school. She was a president of the Stewardess Board and a member of both the Pulpit Aid Board and the Missionary Board. Mrs. Taylor was named “Mother of the Church.” She was a past president of the senior choir and district vice president of the Missionary Board-Sumter District. Survivors include a son, Roosevelt Billie of New York; a brother, John Billie of Pinewood; three sisters, Sally Harvin and Emily Litto, both of Baltimore, Md., and Ruth Williams, of Pinewood; a niece reared as her own, Melody Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant RMUE Church in the Panola community of Pinewood, with the Rev. Melvin Bolds, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Leroy Gethers officiating. The Revs. Thomas Junious, Ernest Brunson Jr. and Roosevelt Boyd will assist. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Pinewood. Pallbearers will be nephews. ERHARDT — Katherine “Kat” Cantey Murdaugh, wife of James Murdaugh, died Thursday, May 11, 2000 at her home. Born Aug. 28, 1947, in Paxville, she was a daughter of the late J.W. Cantey and the late Portia Cantey. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., and in the 1990s, her family moved to her husband’s home in Erhardt. Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Felicia Murdaugh of Columbia and Janeen Murdaugh of Brooklyn; two sons, James Murdaugh Jr. and Jason Murdaugh of Erhardt; three sisters, Lula Pack of Paxville and Bernice McKinney and Betty Jean Anderson, both of Newark N.J.; three brothers, Alvin “Sonny” Cantey and Tommy Cantey, both of Brooklyn, and Miles Cantey of Paxville; a niece, Melvinia C. Riley of Sumter; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son, Josh Canty. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Erhardt. FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Mary Lee Faison, 61, wife of David Faison, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Faison was born Nov. 6, 1938, in St. Charles. In 1958, she moved to Fort Pierce, Fla., where she was an evangelist, Sunday school teacher and choir member at Community Holiness Church. Survivors besides her husband include four sons, Charles Durant, Elvin Durant and Norris Roberts, all of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Melvin Durant of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four daughters, Jessie Myers of Mayesville, Evelyn Bragg of Tampa, Fla., and Mary Lisa Jones and Joyce Beneby, both of Fort Pierce; five brothers, Tommie Lee Plowden of Baltimore, Md., John Durant of Fort Pierce, Anthony Durant and Antonio Durant, both of Sumter, and Otis Linton of Syracuse, N.Y.; five sisters, Mary L. Styles of New York, Lugenia McClain, Elouise Kenyon, Edith Durant, all of Fort Pierce, and Geneva Copeland of Sumter; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Born April 6, 1930, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Aileen Alston Benjamin. She attended Rafting Creek School. In her youth, she accepted Christ and was baptized by the Rev. B.F. Weston at Rafting Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Anthony L. Benjamin; a daughter, Frances Marie Waiters; three sisters, Maggie Benjamin Peay and Deloris Furgess, both of Columbia, and Juliette Bradford of Rembert; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Benjamin; three brothers; and a sister. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles H. Oliver Joseph “Joe Joe” Kolb, 57, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home. Born Jan. 14, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of Oliver John Wesley Kolb and the late Earnestine Revill Kolb. Mr. Kolb was a member of First Church of God. He was previously employed by Sumter Machinery and Boulevard Upholstery Shop. He served two years in the U.S. Army. Survivors besides his father of Sumter include a brother, Allen Norwood Kolb of Great Falls; a sister, Carolyn Kolb Ellis of Great Falls; six aunts and uncles, Lillie Kolb Davis and her husband, Odell, Ida Mae Kolb Belk and her husband, Robert D., Teressa Revill Monk and her husband, Walter, Victoria Revill Boyce, Andrew Revill and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Sumter, and Joe Revill Jr. of Durham, N.C.; his stepfather, Fred Coppeta of North Andover, Mass; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles Stewart Mason Jr., 82, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Charles Stewart Mason Sr. and Marie DuBose Brown Mason. Mr. Mason was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Carlisle Military Academy and was a retired engineer with Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He was a life member of Claremont Masonic Lodge No. 64, Sumter York Rite Bodies and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Emily Bolger Mason; two daughters, Carol Mason Mimms of Sumter and Peggy Mason Gamble and her husband, Thomas E. Gamble Jr., of Columbia; three granddaughters, Laurie Lynn Gamble Brandes and her husband, David Brandes, Paige Maree Gamble Edwards and her husband, Richard Edwards, all of Columbia, and Deborah Mimms Barnett and her husband, Michael Barnett, of Clover; a grandson, Thomas E. WILLIE L. GIBBS

MANNING — Willie Lee Gibbs, 53, husband of Willie Mae Pearson Gibbs, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Nov. 14, 1946, in Bradenton, Fla., he was a son of Margaret Dye Gibbs and the late Willie Gibbs.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Route 3, Box 990, Bloomville Road, Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home.

DWAYNE W. LOCKHART

LYNCHBURG — Dwayne Willie Lockhart, 20, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born Oct. 7, 1979, in Newark, N.J., he was a son of Willie E. Luther Jr. and Jennifer Smothers Quattlebaum and the stepson of Ricky Quattlebaum Sr. Mr. Lockhart attended Crestwood High School. Survivors besides his father of Newark, N.J., and his mother and stepfather of the home include four brothers, Leroy, James and Ricky, all of the home, and Willie Jr. of Newark, N.J.; three sisters, Ashia of the home, and Kimber and Audrey, both of Newark; his maternal grandparents, Louise Smothers and Calvin Smothers, Louise Williams and Willie Luther, all of Newark; and his step-grandparents, Herbert and Mary Quattlebaum of Lynchburg. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Turbeville with the Rev. Zander Davis, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. E.W. Palmer and the Rev. George Cousar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 1630 Yarborough Road, in the St. John community of Lynchburg. Samuels Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.

MARTHA M. RAY

Martha M. McBride Ray, 42, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 30, 1957, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Cleveland McBride and the late Lillie M. Gibson McBride. She attended Sumter County public schools. She was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors besides her father include a son, Donald D. Johnson of the home; a daughter, Melissa Ray of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Emma L. Williams of the home and Lillie A. Grinnell of Sumter; two adopted sisters, Caroline Gibson and Dean Brunson, both of Sumter; three grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Dalton Johnson of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. M. Dingle Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mulberry Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave from her home, 4620 St. Kennedy Road. The family will receive friends at her home. Sumter Funeral Service Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

BISHOPVILLE — Willie Rob Johnson of St. Charles Road, widower of Naomi Johnson, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.
Services will be announced by Square Deal Funeral Home.
