MYRTLE BEACH — Annie Bell Moore Windley, 78, widow of George William Windley, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Conway Hospital after an illness. Born Dec. 2, 1921, in the Sandridge community of Horry County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Oscar Phillip Moore and Maggie Morgan Moore. Mrs. Windley attended Horry County public schools. She accepted Christ as personal Savior and joined St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as superintendent of the Sunday school, Sunday school teacher for over 35 years, and a member of the senior choir. She was also a member of the Royal Court of King Solomon and Tent organization. Survivors include three sons, the Rev. George P. Windley Sr. of Sumter, and Chappell Windley and Otis Earl Windley, both of Myrtle Beach; nine daughters, Annie Bell Days of Conway, Ida Mae Greene, Dorothy Porter and Emma Lee Jackson, all of Louisville, Ky., Emma Lee Sessions of Columbus, Ohio, Mary V. Gresham of Byars, Okla., Carolyn Ann Braxton of Bronx, N.Y., Rosa Marie Jackson of Yonkers, N.Y., and Margaret Ann Green of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Calethia M. Gore of Conway; 35 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A wake service will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Latimer’s Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, in the Burgess community of Myrtle Beach, with the Rev. Walker Vaught, pastor, officiating. WILHELMENA McCLANAHAN

Wilhelmena McClanahan, 85, widow of Arthur R. McClanahan, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at her home, 3960 Ramsey Road.
Mrs. McClanahan was born June 24, 1914, in Barnwell.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Arthur J. McClanahan, 3960 Ramsey Road.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

JAMES E. BAGNAL SR.

MANNING — James Everett Bagnal Sr., 89, husband of Margie Ridgeway Bagnal, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 5, 1910, in the Wilson community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Donald McQueen Bagnal and Mary Rebecca Holladay Bagnal. Mr. Bagnal was a retired farmer and forester with ITT. He was a member of Manning United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. Survivors besides his wife of Manning include a son, James Everett “Jimmy” Bagnal Jr. and his wife, Millie, of Cayce; a daughter, Nell Bagnal Price and her husband, Mel, of Kingstree; two granddaughters, Jonolyn B. Ferreri of Beaufort and Cindy B. Eskew of Atlanta; two great-grandsons, Jack Ferreri and Jamie Ferreri; and a great-granddaughter, Erin Eskew. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Joseph Belton Bagnal, Donald Benjamin Bagnal, Robert Lee Bagnal, George McQueen Bagnal, William Taylor Bagnal, John Wesley Bagnal and Woodrow Bagnal; and four sisters, Maydell B. Johnson, Mary Martha B. Johnson, Grace Matilda B. Johnson and Harriet Rebecca B. Gibbons. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Van B. Thomas Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wilson. Pallbearers will be Clyde Bagnal, Butch Price, Bubba Bagnal, Howard Bagnal, Bill Brewer and Jimmy Lea. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Bible Class of Manning United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home, 14 E. Huggins St. Memorials may be made to Manning United Methodist Church, P.O. CORINE L. DUKE

MANNING — Corine Lowder Duke, 90, widow of Cleo Duke, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia. Born May 10, 1909, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Junious Lowder and Alice Gertrude Tindal Lowder. Mrs. Duke was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two sons, J. Brice Cantey of Summerton and A. Glenn Duke of West Columbia; a daughter, Linda Duke Carroll of Charleston; a brother, Leon Lowder of Eastover; two sisters, Virginia Smoak and Jessie Mae Michaels of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Christy Cantey; a daughter, Marginelle Missenheimer; and a brother, Clayton Lowder. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charlie Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery in New Zion. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Covenant Presbyterian Church. NORMA H. ERON

Norma Catherine Hess Eron, 73, widow of Richard Anthony Eron Sr., died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at a local nursing center. Born in Ft. Pierce, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Charles Norman Hess and Victoria Catherine Luckett Hess. Mrs. Eron was a Catholic. Survivors include seven sons, John Eron, Tom Eron, David Eron, Chris Eron and Paul Eron, all of Sumter, Richard Eron of Lugoff and Jimmy Eron of Petal, Miss.; two sisters, Patricia McCulley of Ashland, Miss., and Charlene Russell of Columbia; three stepbrothers, Fred Hess of San Francisco, Calif., John Hess of Encino, Calif., and Skip Hess of California; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Lawrence Cemetery with Father Michael Varady, C.Ss.R. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Eron, 2995 S. Wise Drive. WILLIAM A. LONG

MT. PLEASANT — William Ashley Long, 82, husband of Virginia W. Long, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Long retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a B-17 bomber pilot, flying 25 missions over Germany, and he also flew relief during the Berlin airlift. Among the various medals he was awarded are the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Bronze Oakleaf Cluster. Mr. Long was a professor of economics at the University of Hawaii for many years, including three years at the Chinese University of Shatin MBA program. After returning to Hawaii, he continued to teach as well as write and edit managerial economics textbooks with researcher K.K. Seo. He also had a private consulting business, Wm. Long and Associates, which he operated until his retirement in 1994. He lived a rich and fruitful life, and was a Godly man, loved by all who knew him, and will be missed by his wife; his son, David L. Long of Kailua, Hawaii; his daughter, Virginia P. Gibson of Mt. Pleasant; his brother, Ray Long of Amarillo, Texas; a grandson, C. Shea Gibson; a granddaughter, Meredith E. Buckendahl; a grandson-in-law, Kendal Buckendahl; and a great-granddaughter, Maile E. Buckendahl. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastbridge Presbyterian Church, 3040 Highway 17 North, with the Rev. Sam Joyner delivering the eulogy. Interment will be in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will greet friends after the service. J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mt. Pleasant Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

HARRY GOFF

Harry Charles Goff, 34, husband of Priscilla Cowan Goff, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at his home. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Juanita Register Rhodes and the late John H. Goff. Mr. Goff was employed by Korn Industries. Survivors, besides his wife and mother, include his stepfather, Robert Rhodes; a son, Charles Goff; a brother, John C. Goff of Lexington, and two stepbrothers, Robert Rhodes Jr. and Steven Rhodes. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristen Goff. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at 607 E. Charlotte Ave. Memorials may be made to the Palmetto Richland Memorial Children’s Hospital. JAMES CAMERON

LAKE CITY — James Junior Cameron, 67, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Carolina Hospital System after a sudden illness.
Survivors include two sons, Eric Cameron and James R. Cameron; a daughter, Cheryl Denise Cameron; two brothers, Jestice Cameron and Jackson Cameron; and two sisters, Lillie Ann Session and Delcina Pendergrass.
Family will receive friends at the residence, Route 4, Box 297, Beulah Woods Road, Lake City.

O.D. AVIN

O.D. Avin, husband of Brenda Avin, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

HERMAN BROWN

Herman Brown died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at 322 Council St.
Born March 6, 1955, in Sumter County, he was a son of Rufus and Ethel McLeod Brown.

EVELYN CARROWAY

Evelyn Carroway died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

ALCOLU — Harriet Collins Fleming, 65, wife of Venro Fleming, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Aug. 10, 1935, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Edward Collins and Ernestine Parker Collins.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, James Collins, Route 1, Little Star Church Road, Alcolu.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.

HERBERT FRAZIER SR.

MANNING — Herbert Frazier Sr., 80, husband of Dora DuPree Frazier, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1919, in the Sugar Hill community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Thomas Frazier and Beulah Harvin Frazier.
The family will receive friends at the home, Route 3, Box 1251, Mallett Road, in the Sugar Hill community of Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home.

WILLIE PEEPLES JR.

Willie Peeples Jr., 75, husband of Robertha Pearson Peeples, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born June 16, 1924, in Allendale, he was a son of the late Willie Peeples Sr. and Choicy Graham Peeples.

HENRY ROBINSON

GABLE — Henry Robinson, 92, widower of Sarah Peterson Robinson, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Feb. 28, 1908, in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Boobe Robinson and Mariah Robinson.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willie and Rosetta Kennedy, Route 1, Box 33-A, McFadden Road, Gable.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.

MARTHA M. SIMON

LAKE CITY — Martha Major Simon, 93, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at her home, 435 Morris St., Lot 37, Wedgefield Trailer Park, Lake City.
Born March 2, 1907, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Elliot and Cornelia Major.

MALACHI HENRY

BISHOPVILLE — Malachi Henry, 87, husband of Alberta March Henry, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late James and Mary Henry. Mr. Henry was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church and Liberty Hill Lodge No. 351. Survivors besides his wife of over 50 years include a daughter, Sarah Francis Henry of Bishopville; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. T.O. Everett, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The funeral procession will leave at 2:30 p.m. from the home on James Street. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the chapel of Boatwright Funeral Home. EDWARD JENKINS

Edward Jenkins, husband of Bertha Jenkins, died Sunday, March 12, 2000. Born July 7, 1941, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Richard and Blanche Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins was employed for many years as a senior mechanic at Roger Garage and was later employed at Palmetto Gas Co., both located in Sumter. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, Edward Jenkins Jr. and Kenneth R. Jenkins, both of Sumter; a daughter, Angela R. Houston of Maryland; two brothers, Richard Jenkins Jr. of Oklahoma and James “Jimmy” Jenkins of Alexandria, Va.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Brother Spann and Brother Adams officiating. Burial will be in Dicks Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave at 3:30 p.m. from the home, 425 Vining St. The family will receive friends at the home. SUMMERTON — Trav Anna Shai Mari Perry, 1-month-old daughter of Michael Perry and Renee O. Lawson, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at her home, 575 Liberty Hill Church Road. She was born Feb. 2, 2000, in Manning. Survivors besides her father of Sumter and her mother of the home include her brother, TraVough Perry of the home; her maternal grandparents, Thurmon Smalls and Christine Lawson Smalls of Sumter; and her paternal grandparents, Cuff Perry and Ola Mae Jones Perry of Sumter. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. today in Historical Liberty Hill AME Church Cemetery with the Rev. M.L. Duncan officiating. The family received friends at the home. Enid Aileen Powell, 88, widow of Everett W. “Jake” Powell, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at a local nursing center. Mrs. Powell was born in Rangoom, Burma. Survivors include a son, Lloyd Barraclough of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Valerie White of St. Louis, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Vanessa White, Richard Barraclough, Howard Barraclough, Rory Barraclough and Loidene Sweeney. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman West and Cedric West. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Edward McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. CONYERS, Ga. — Alma Floyd Taylor, 77, widow of Ralph Taylor, died Monday, March 13, 2000, in Conyers. Born in Florence, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John William Floyd and Florence Green Floyd. Survivors include two sons, John E. Taylor and Thomas H. Taylor, both of Sumter, S.C.; a daughter, Joyce Redmond of Conyers; a brother, Jack Floyd of Sumter; a sister, Eunice Eaves of Sumter; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home in Sumter with the Rev. Dearld Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Eaves, 902 Antlers Drive, Sumter. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mamie Elizabeth Rector Wood of Charlotte, 75, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. Born June 14, 1924, in Asheville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Carl and Anne Jackson Kolb Rector. A long-time resident of Sumter, S.C., she had been employed over 15 years at the Eckerd Pharmacy in Sumter. Mrs. Wood moved to Charlotte 11 years ago. Survivors include two daughters, Andrea Wood of Charlotte and Marilyn Griffith of Charleston; a sister, Irene Hinson of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ansel Lee Wood; a daughter, Janice Bramlett; and a brother, Carl Rector Jr. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road, Charlotte. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Sumter Cemetery in Sumter. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the parlor of Myers Park Baptist Church.
