Leroy Sider died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter. Born April 12, 1916, in Orangeburg County, he attended Orangeburg public schools. He was employed as mechanic for most of his lifetime. He attended area churches in Orangeburg. Survivors include two nephews, Everet Crum Jr. and Kevin Crum, both of Denmark, S.C.; and two nieces, Debra Crum and Diana Sider, both of Denmark, S.C. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bradford Cemetery with Bishop Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Viewing will be from 3 p.m. today until the hour before the services on Wednesday at Community Funeral Home. Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CARRIE J. McCOWN

LAKE CITY — Carrie Jones McCown, 87, widow of Tom McCown, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.
She was born March 7, 1912, in Florence County.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Robert “Wayne” McCown, 528 W. Independence Ave., Lake City.
Services will be announced by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home.

Thomas Wright of 95 Lightwood Knot Road, husband of Emma Martin Wright, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
The family will receive friends at the home.

RILEY J. BRYANT

CAMDEN — Riley Joseph Bryant, 51, husband of Patsy Lynn Johnson Bryant, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Dorn Veterans Medical Center in Columbia. Born Aug. 18, 1948, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Robert Edward Bryant and Viola Mitchum Bryant. Mr. Bryant was owner and operator of Tile Works in Greenwood, a Vietnam War U.S. Army veteran, and a member of First Baptist Church of Camden. Survivors besides his wife of Camden include two daughters, Cristal B. Gootee of Batesburg and Ami Marie Bryant of Camden; a brother, Raymond Bryant of Greenwood; and three sisters, Sallie Bartlett of Coward, Betsy Smith of Charleston and Joyce Collingsworth of Apollo Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Lavaughn Young and the Rev. Bruce Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Clarendon Memorial Gardens in Manning. Pallbearers will be Johnnie Owens, Ricky Bartlett, Jack Sharpe, Johnnie Osborne, Linwood Watkins, Doug Morris, Charlie Morris, Charlie Ard and Donnie Vincent. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Camden, 1201 Broad St., Camden, SC. Stephens Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.

EVA COOPER

BISHOPVILLE — Eva Cooper, 88, widow of Moses Cooper Sr., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Philadelphia, Pa. Born and reared in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lucy Brown. Mrs. Cooper attended the public schools of Lee County. Survivors include two sons, Moses Cooper Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa., and Leo Cooper of Columbia; two daughters, Mary Lou Slater of Bishopville and Annie Lee Bradley of Philadelphia, Pa.; a special sister, Ruth Charles of Bishopville; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Square Deal Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney James officiating, assisted by some ministers from the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Burial will be in the Thomastown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 523 N. Heyward St. Square Deal Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WALTER DAVIS

EAST ORANGE, N.J. — Walter Davis, husband of Jeanette Davis, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in East Orange. Born Oct. 2, 1924, in Mayesville, he was a son of the late Charlie Davis and Georgianna Cockley Davis. Mr. Davis attended Mayesville Institute in Mayesville and was a member of Ebenezer AME Church prior to moving to East Orange. Survivors besides his wife of East Orange include two brothers, Eugene Davis and Cantfield Davis, both of Mayesville; and three sisters, Mary Louise Eady and Inez Lesane, both of Mayesville, and Catherine Baxter of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Felix Davis and Charlie Davis Jr.; and two sisters, Eunice Davis Wells and Helen Wilson. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 3, in East Orange. TheoDocia Eberhardy, 80, wife of Bernard Eberhardy, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Marion S. Josey and TheoDocia Maye Josey. Mrs. Eberhardy was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. She was a public accountant. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include two daughters, Patricia Joan Edwards of Sumter and Karen E. Jones of Goose Creek; three stepsons, Bernard Eberhardy Jr. of California, James F. Eberhardy of Clear Lake, Wis., and Mark J. Eberhardy of Clintonville, Wis.; two sisters, Marcella Wongrey of Sumter and Irene Funderburke of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Daniel Carboy C.Ss.R. officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. JERMAINE L. GAMBLE

MANNING — Jermaine Lamont “BooBoo” Gamble, 16, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, on the J and E Road, Route 5, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Dec. 24, 1983, in Miami, Fla., he was a son of Ben Moses and Jeanette Gamble Hilton and the stepson of James Hilton. He was a freshman at Manning High School, where he participated on the football team. Survivors besides his father of Homestead, Fla., and his mother and stepfather of the home in Manning include two brothers, Anthony Gamble and Robert Banks, both of the home; a sister, Shanda Dewberry of the home; and his maternal grandfather, Oscar Briggs of Manning. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie “Little Man” Gamble. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Rock Hill Baptist Church, Old Georgetown Road, Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Leon Winn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers and flower bearers will be schoolmates of Manning High School. JOHN H. HUDNALL

John Hamlin Hudnall, 86, husband of Lilly Smith Hudnall, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his home. Born in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Michael Benjamin Hudnall and Annie White Hudnall. Mr. Hudnall was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the N.A.R.F.E. Association. He served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force Signal Corps Division in Italy during World War II. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include a daughter, Kathleen Ozberk and her husband, Engin, of Ontario, Canada; a sister, Clara Waters of Sumter; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Hudnall and the Rev. Ben Hudnall. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Sayre officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, and at other times at the home, 37-A Althea Circle. PETER L. KLONIS

Peter Louis Klonis, 87, husband of Aliene Vann Tisdale Klonis, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at a local nursing center. Born in New York, he was a son of the late Peter Klonis and Tekla Klonis. Mr. Klonis was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant with 30 years of service. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, John C. Klonis of Melbourne, Fla., and Robert L. Klonis of Travelers Rest; a sister, Jane Angeles of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. James Chandler officiating. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church. EMMA W. LONON

Emma W. Lonon, widow of Logan Mack Lonon, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born Nov. 23, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Lucille Wright Smith. Survivors include two sons, Akie Lonon of Sumter and Eddie Lonon of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Angela Marie Johnson of Sumter; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the John W. Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the home of her daughter, Marie Johnson, 553 W. Hampton Ave. The family will receive friends at the same home. BESSIE J. PRESTON

Bessie Jones Preston, widow of Johnny Preston, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born Dec. 24, 1904, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Suzanne Jones. Mrs. Preston accepted Christ in her youth and joined St. James AME Church, where she served as class leader, senior choir president and a member of the stewardess board. She later joined New Hope Church of our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith and served on the missionary board and as senior choir president. In later years, she joined Grace Cathedral COGIC. Survivors include an adopted son, Julius Preston; a brother-in-law, Leroy Sumpter Sr. of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Nina Jones of Durham, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillside Memorial Park with Elder Sammy C. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at her former residence, 12 Wallace St. Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

GRACE RADCLIFFE

Grace Sutton Radcliffe, 61, wife of Lynn L. Radcliffe, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Veneda Preast Sutton and the late Heyward S. Sutton. Mrs. Radcliffe was a member of Lemira Presbyterian Church. She was employed by Becton-Dickinson. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter and her mother of Sumter include two sons, Eddie Tedder and Robbie Tedder, both of Sumter; a stepson, Chuck Radcliffe of Sumter; a brother, Larry Sutton of Sumter; a sister, Patricia Livingston of El Paso, Texas; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Tedder. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Rivers and the Rev. Buddy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and co-workers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of her mother, 11 Hilliard St. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. JASPER BRISTOW

Jasper “Jap” Bristow, husband of Hester Jamison Bristow, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born July 21, 1928, in Robeson County, N.C., he was a son of the late Archie and Jessie Scott Bristow. He professed Christ at an early age and joined St. Luke AME Church in Sumter after relocating from New York in 1977. He was a member of the Gospel Choir. He was employed by Coca Cola Bottling Co. until his retirement in 1993. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, Robert L. Bristow of Charlotte, N.C., and Ricky Bristow of Rochester, N.Y.; an adopted daughter, Ieisha Gilmore-Blair of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Mary R. Pearson of Sumter and Mamie Scott of Powathan, Va.; three brothers, Paul Bristow and Bobby Bristow, both of New York, and John Hubert of Fairmount, N.C.; five sisters, Thelma Bullock, Mattie Howell and Annie Mae Flowers, all of Fairmount, N.C., Mary Johnson of New York and Pauline French of Florida; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Perry Bristow; three brothers, Robert Bristow, the Rev. John W. Bristow and Elliott Dudley; and two sisters, Marland Jones and Martha Kelly. Services will 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke AME Church with the Rev. Robert R. Hooper, pastor, officiating and the Revs. Doretha Brewer and Dr. Horton H. Howard assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at the home, 635 W. Oakland Ave. Job’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

RICHARD A. DEAN

Richard Aloise Dean, 55, husband of Pamela Cooper Dean, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his home. Born in Shreveport, La., he was a son of the late Alvis Elmore Dean and Ruth Rogers Dean. Mr. Dean was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and pre-school director. He also served on various committees. He was employed as the maintenance director of the Sumter County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. He was also a soccer coach with the Parks and Recreation Department. Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Richard A. Dean Jr. of Sumter and Garrett Dean of Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Ashleigh Dean Cardone of Sumter; a brother, Larry Lee Dean of Shreveport, La.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvis Terry Dean. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Crosswell Baptist Church with the Revs. Rodney Howard and Steve Rohrlack officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 331 Church St. Memorials may be made to Crosswell Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. BEULAH P. HUDSON

Beulah May Pritchard Hudson, 95, widow of Archie Talmadge Hudson, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at a local nursing facility. Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Frank Pritchard and Mariah Emma Jane Jackson Pritchard. Mrs. Hudson was the oldest member of Providence Baptist Church, where she attended since 1919 and served as a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. She was retired from Pennys Department Store and Diana Shop. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Archie Hudson of West Columbia and George Gilbert Hudson of Manning; three daughters, Rosalie Hudson Hodge of Sumter, Catherine Wells of Americus, Ga., and Bessie Jeanette Goodwin of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Thomas Pritchard of Sumter; a sister, Gertrude Giddins of St. Augustine, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Iva Belle Hudson Hodge; and two granddaughters, Lois Ann Hodge and Teresa Hudson. Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Greene officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Saints Over Sixty Sunday school class of Providence Baptist Church. THELMA W. SHERIOD

MANNING — Thelma Wilson Sheriod, 40, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, after an automobile accident.
Born May 18, 1959, in Manning, she was a daughter of Christine Thames Wilson and the late John Henry Wilson.
She was raised by her paternal grandparents, Eugene Wilson and Earline Hilton Wilson.
The family will receive friends at the home of her grandparents, 19 Ragin St., Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home of Manning.

RUFUS RAGIN

MANNING — Deacon Rufus Ragin, 69, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston after an extended illness. Born Sept. 17, 1930, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Joseph Ragin Sr. and Rene Gipson Ragin. He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and at an early age joined Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Junior Usher and sang on the Gospel and Senior Choir. Later he joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a devotion leader, adult Sunday school teacher and as assistant superintendent of the Sunday school. He was also a member of the board of trustees and the Male and Senior Choir. He was also a member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge No. 188. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and reached the rank of sergeant. He retired from Freeman Millworks in Manning after 45 years. Survivors include his wife, Daisy G. Ragin; a son, Rufus Ragin Jr. of Manning; two daughters, Deborah Harvin of Summerville and Cladean Ragin-Smiley of Warrenville Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Louise Riley of Paxville and Emma Weeks of Mullins; and two brothers, Charlie Ragin of Philadelphia, Pa., and Lucius Ragin of Manning. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Alice Anderson, Inez Bogger, Edith Cochran and Hessie Ann Blanding; and two brothers, Henry Ragin and Joseph Ragin Jr. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Manning with the Rev. George P. Windley officiating and the Revs. Clarence Hilton and Mitchell Adger assisting. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park in Sumter. The family will receive friends at the home, 12 Ragin St., Manning. Samuels Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

LILLIE BOSTIC

Lillie Bostic died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Hopewell Healthcare Center.
Born Aug. 10, 1927, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Roxie Scott McCullum.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Gail Washington, 5810 Wessex Drive, Wedgefield.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

RICHARD DEAN

Richard Dean died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his home.
Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

JOHN FELDER

ALCOLU — John Felder, 67, husband of Laura Blackwell Felder, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia after a brief illness.
Born July 11, 1932, in the Camp Bob Cooper community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Evans Felder and Nora Levy Felder Polite.
He was the stepson of the late James Polite.
The family will receive friends at his home, Route 2, Box 1550, Brogdon Road, Alcolu.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.
