Robert L. Koon, 60, of 641 Clipper Trail, Chapin, SC died Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Lexington Medical Center.
Mr. Koon was born on March 25, 1945 in Chapin, a son of the late Claude C. and Nellie McCartha Koon. He attended the Newberry Church of God.
Mr. Koon survived by his wife, Trudy A. Koon; four daughters, Hope Wilson of Newberry, Robbie Harris of Prosperity, Cindy Nichols of Williston, and Diane Koon of Newberry; one son, Tony Koon of Dallas, TX; one sister, Frances Riddle of Little Mountain; one brother, Carroll C. Koon of Newberry; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Jewel Koon.
Funeral services for Robert L. Koon will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Monday at Newberry Church of God by the Rev. Daniel Nash. Interment will be in Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church Cemetery
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of his daughter, Robbie Harris, 465 Long Road, Prosperity.
Memorials may be made to the Newberry Church of God, 2693 College St., Newberry SC 29108
Active pallbearers will be Mac McCaslin, Albert Boland, Stacy Boland, Terri Wise, Harvey Griffin.

Max Sam Cook
November 24, 2005

Max Sam Cook, 82, of 1089 Bachman Chapel Road, Prosperity, died Thursday, November 24, 2005 at the Lexington Medical Center.
Mr. Cook was born on October 9, 1923 in Prosperity, a son of the late Sam A. and Eunice Halfacre Cook. He was a Navy veteran of WW II having served in the Pacific Theater on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-LA. He was the President of Dormax Farms and was a former partner in Cook Brothers.
Mr. Cook was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men, the Intercessory Prayer Group, the VFW, American Legion Post 24, USS Shangri-La Reunion Association, and the Lower Newberry County Farmers Association.
Mr. Cook is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy DuBose Cook; three daughters, Maxine C. Bailey of Irmo, Shirley C. Weaver of Mt. Pleasant, and Marsha C. Price of Irmo; three sisters and a brother–in-law, Christine C. Hutchinson and Anne C. Graham both of Newberry and Caroline C. and Buck Cockrell of Prosperity; a sister-in-law, Peggy B. Cook of Prosperity; six grandchildren, Alex Bailey, Chris Bailey, Mamie Rand, Meredith Hulen, John Weaver, and Ryan Price; and 10 great grandchildren, Maxwell Bailey, Jared Bailey, Rachel Bailey, Miles Bailey, Kelsey Rand, Shelby Rand, Nate Rand, Chrisman Rand, Max Hulen, and DuBose Hulen. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Cook.
Services for Max Sam Cook will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eddie Taylor.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 1089 Bachman Chapel Road, Prosperity.
Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in law. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Methodist Men and the Intercessory Prayer Group of Wightman United Methodist Church.

Merron Smith Hentz
November 14, 2005

Merron Smith Hentz, 67, formerly of 283 Koon Trestle Road, Pomaria, widow of Robert L. Hentz, Sr., died Monday November 14, 2005 at J.F. Hawkins Health Care.
Mrs. Hentz was born on February 12, 1938 in Laurens County, a daughter of the late C. Clitus and Onie Harrison Smith. She was a retired employee of Whitten Center and a member of Pomaria Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Hentz is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Todd Fulmer of Prosperity; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert “Robbie” L. Hentz, Jr. and Darryl S. and Betsy Hentz all of Pomaria; three sisters, Elvira Tiensivu of Pomaria, Ada Meneatrice Beavers of Mesa, AZ, and Maledia Cole of Denver, NC; one brother, Charlie Smith of Clinton; six grandchildren, Derek Fulmer, Elena Fulmer, Nicholas Hentz, Courtney Hentz, Zachary Hentz, and Sarah Hentz.
Funeral services for Merron Smith Hentz will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Pomaria Lutheran Church by the Vicar Stacy Loizeaux and the Rev. Terry Amick. Interment will be in the Pomaria Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Hentz, 112 Folk St., Pomaria.
Memorials may be made to J.F. Hawkins Health Care, 1330 Kinard St., Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Charlie Smith, II, Cecil Fulmer, Morgan Sease, Jimmy Kinard, Jimmy Wilson, and Huger Caughman, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Rae Daniels, Dorothy Fulmer, and the Certified Nurse Assistants and Nurses of Unit 1 at J.F. Hawkins Health Care.

Alma Lee Emery
November 11, 2005

Alma Lee Emery, 88, of 824 Spool Wheel Road, Gilbert, died Friday, November 11, 2005 at Lexington Medical Center.
Mrs. Emery was born on March 31, 1917 in Oviedo, FL, a daughter of the late James H. and Willa Donaldson Lee. She was raised by her great grandmother, Susanna. She finished school in Miami, Fl and went to work in a cigar factory in FL. In 1938, she and her late husband Edward R. Emery of 63 years were married and moved to Dublin, GA where she still has many close friends and family. In 1967, they moved to Lexington, SC where she continued raising her family. She spent many years working at Session’s, a family owned department store in Lexington. She retired in the mid 1980’s. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lexington
Mrs. Emery is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law; Edward C. and Cheryl J. Emery of Gilbert; four grandchildren and spouses; Mary Grace E. (Simeon) Bryant of Gilbert, Jacki E.(Danny) Clark of Connelly Springs, NC, Jesse “Jay” E. Emery of Gilbert, and Susanna E. (Matthew) Fomby presently stationed in the military in Cairo, Egypt; and her greatest pride her seven great grandchildren; Jillian and Andrew Bryant of Lexington, Melinda, Katherine, and Jennifer Clark of Connelly Springs, NC, and McKenzie and Nikolas Fomby of Cairo, Egypt. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Lee and George Lee.
She was a sweet grandmother and her grandchildren could fill the newspaper with the wonderful memories of their grandmother. She was an excellent cook, had a great sense of humor, and loved fishing. She was dearly loved by all that met her and will be greatly missed by all that loved her.
Graveside funeral services for Alma Lee Emery will at 2:00 P.M. Sunday in Woodridge Cemetery.

O. L. Cook, Jr.
November 10, 2005

O. L. Cook, Jr., 84, formerly of 409 Crosson St. Newberry, died Thursday November 10, 2005 at White Oak Manor.
Mr. Cook was born on August 25,1921 in Newberry, a son of the late Osborne Luther Cook, Sr. and Bertha Hiller Cook. He was Army veteran World War II and was a retired office manager of Thomas and Howard Company. He was a member of the Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and The Lutheran Men in Mission for many years.
Mr. Cook is survived by a sister, Vera C. Creekmore of Newberry; and nieces and nephews, Judy Clark of Lake City, Susan Black, Marty Cook, Robbie Hunter, and Kenny Cook all of Newberry and Craig Cook of Spain. He was predeceased by a sister, Gertie Lee Rogers and brothers, Harold Cook, Fred Cook and Kenneth Cook.
Funeral services for O. L. Cook, Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Bob Kasting. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 P. M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hunter, 2263 Trinity Church Road, Newberry.
Memorial may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1307 Drayton Street, Newberry, S.C. 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Dane Hunter, Michael O’Connell, Dewey Epting, Glenn Suber, Rodney Griffin, Randy Black, Kevin Cook and Kenny Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class

Colie Evans Bobb
November 7, 2005

Colie Evans Bobb, 94, formerly of Smith Road, Apt B-4, Newberry, widow of Roland A. Bobb, died Monday, November 7, 2005 at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Mrs. Bobb was born on December 7, 1910 in Newberry, a daughter of the late Gregg Evans and Lula Belle Evans Eddy. She was a retired employee of Newberry Mills and was a member of West End Baptist Church, the T.E.L. Sunday School Class and Women’s Missionary Circle.
Mrs. Bobb is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick A. and Judy F. Bobb of Prosperity; two grandchildren and spouse Cindy and Kim Moore of Newberry and Roland A. Bobb of Atlanta; and three great grandchildren, James Moore, Benjamin Moore and Kimberly Moore and her fiance’, Teddy Bonds all of Newberry. She was predeceased by a sister, Dovie Evans Hamm.
Funeral services for Colie Evans Bobb will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Larry Deeter and Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. Internment will be in West End Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P. M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home

Jessie Caroline Boozer Mayer

Jessie Caroline Boozer Mayer, 91, formerly of 932 Spearman Road, Newberry, widow of Harry E. Mayer, Sr., died Monday, November 7, 2005 at White Oak Manor.
Mrs. Mayer was born on January 23, 1914, in Newberry County, a daughter of the late Horace Lee and Rebecca Harmon Boozer. She was a homemaker and a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, the Women in the Church, and the Adult Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Mayer is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Elliott and Linda Mayer and Lee and Suzanne Mayer all of Newberry; a brother and sister-in-law, Horace L. “Pete” and Mazie Boozer of Newberry; four grandchildren, Guerry Mayer, Wanda Richardson, Leanne Waters, and Scott Mayer all of Newberry; and four great grandchildren, Nathan and Kaylee Mayer and Loren and Brett Waters. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Lee Boozer.
Funeral services for Jessie Caroline Boozer Mayer will be conducted t 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Smyrna Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Scott Hill. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church Improvement Fund, 32 Smyrna Road, Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Guerry Mayer, Scott Mayer, Bobby Waters, Ricky Richardson, Neal Boozer, Bob Bannister, and Billy Gibson.
