Susan Campbell Bourassa, 37, wife of Steven Bourassa, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Charles W. Campbell and Betty Selph Campbell. Survivors besides her parents and husband of Dalzell include a son, Shaun E. Bode of the home; two brothers, Steve Campbell and Mark Campbell, both of Sumter; a sister, Sharlene C. Brown of sumter; two nephews and four nieces, all of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Bordeaux officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Richardson, Ryan Evans, Taylor Motley, Allen Jones, Steve Witherspoon and Ronnie Burns. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at 3005 Wise Drive. Memorials may be made to the Susan Campbell Bourassa Memorial Fund, 3995 Delaware Drive, Dalzell, SC 29040. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marie W. Anderson McLeod, 76, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at the home of her son. Born in Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Ollie Windham and Fannie Windham. She was a member of Walkers Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was retired from Campbell Soup Co. She was first married to the late Walter Anderson and then to the late Willie McLeod. Survivors include four sons, Bobby Anderson, Billy Anderson, Ronnie Anderson and Joey Anderson, all of Sumter; two daughters, Cathy Gray and Sandra Lynch, both of Sumter; two stepsons, Berry McLeod and Bruce McLeod, both of Leavenworth, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Linda Jaksich of Leavenworth; two brothers; Frank Windham and C.W. Windham, both of Lamar; three sisters, Sarah Bell McCoy, Lois Lee and Fannie Mae Kolb, all of Sumter; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christopher Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery in Timmonsville. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Anderson Jr., Joey Anderson Jr., William Anderson Jr., William Hill Jr., Robert Anderson Jr. and Manly Kyle Lynch. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Anderson, 1621 Bradham Blvd. Memorials may be made to Hospice Tuomey Home Services. Nora Lucille Sims, 56, wife of Bobby Sims, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at her home. Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Woods and Johnny Louise Boles Woods. Mrs. Sims was a member of Family Altar Church. Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Tony Brooks of Monroe, N.C., and Robert Sims of Sumter; three daughters, Debra Amerson, Annette Amerson and Lisa Bruce, all of Sumter; four brothers, Harry Woods and Luther Woods, both of Lexington, Joe Woods of West Columbia and Kevin Woods of Greenwood; two sisters, Daisy Martin of Pelion and Emma Jane Cooper of Orangeburg; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Hall officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Amerson, Andy Amerson, David Bruce, Harry Woods, Johnny Woods and Luther Woods. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home, 2320 Whipporwill Drive. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RUBY A. SINGLETARY

TURBEVILLE — Ruby Ann Singletary died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born Nov. 1, 1965, in Florence, she was a daughter of Dorothy Mae Fullard Singletary and the late Clarence Singletary. She attended the public schools in Sumter County and graduated from Mayewood High School in 1985. She was a member of Mt. Sinai AME Church, where she served as a member of the junior choir and usher board. Survivors besides her mother of Turbeville include a son, Antonio M. Brown of Turbeville; a daughter, Latoya D. Singletary of Turbeville; a brother, Clarence Singletary Jr. of Turbeville; three sisters, Shirley A. Singletary and Angela Singletary, both of Sumter, and Doris S. McFadden of Turbeville; her grandfather, Odonell Fullard of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and her grandmother, Emma J. Lyde of Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Sinai AME Church in Lynchburg with the Rev. Alfred Bradley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edward Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, Route 1, Box 67-B, Turbeville. Job’s Mortuary Inc. in Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

MAJ. CLAUDIA V. TWOHIG

Maj. Claudia Anne Villers Twohig, 43, wife of Lt. Col. Thomas F. Twohig, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at her home following an illness. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Ralph Villers II and Eileen Scott Villers. She was a photographic interpreter from 1979 to 1983 in Zweibrueken Air Base in Germany and an intelligence officer in planning cell for Eldorado Canyon during the U.S. airstrikes on Libya, U.S. Central Command Intelligence Officer during Operation Desert Storm, Chief U.S. Air Forces In Europe Balkan Intelligence Section during Operations Provide Promise (airdrops over Bosnia) and Deny Flight (air policing over Bosnia), assistant director of operations, 609th Air Intelligence Squadron, U.S. Central Command Air Forces responsible for enforcement of the No-Fly Zone in Iraq. She attended Loris College in Dubuque, Iowa. She received a master’s degree from Troy State University in Troy, Ala., and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major and was involved with several operational contingencies in Europe, Southwest Asia and Korea. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Evan M. and Colin D. Twohig, both of Sumter; two daughters, Aileen R. and Maura L. Twohig, both of Sumter; two brothers, Ralph I. Villers III of Ansonia, Conn., and Christopher Villers of Aviano Air Base, Italy; four sisters, Michele Nelson of East Hartford, Conn., Sharon Cresenzi of Broad Brook, Conn., Vicky Martel of Toland, Conn., and Suzanne Limburg of Granby, Conn. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Christopher’s, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford, Conn., with Father Michael Twohig officiating. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Field-Hillside Cemetery in East Hartford. Her brother and brothers-in-law will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home in East Hartford. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, Liberty Street, Sumter, SC 29150 or to the Tri-County Hospice, 2650-B Hardee Cove, Sumter, SC 29150. NEOLA R. JAMES

LAKE CITY — Neola Rogers “Boot” James, 68, widow of Arron “Buster” James Sr., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her home, 308 Ash St.
Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Lee County, she was a daughter of Annie Brown Rogers and the late Lucious Rogers.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Services will be announced by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home in Lake City.

DARROW D. TONEY

LAKE CITY — Darrow D. Toney, 78, widower of Hazel B. Toney, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence after an extended illness.
He was the father of Claire Austin.
The family will receive friends at the home, 250 E. Claff Circle, Lake City.
Services will be announced by Green’s Funeral Home.

LEVY WELLS

LYNCHBURG — Levy Wells, widower of Nettie Mae Wells, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
He was born Sept. 15, 1909, in Sumter County.
The family will receive friends at 3590 OCC Road, Lynchburg.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc. in Sumter.

EDWARD WILLIAMS

Edward “Eddie” Williams died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, on U.S. 15 North.
Born May 4, 1945, in Sumter County, he was a son of Mamie White Williams and the late Albert Williams.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Mary Mack, 103 Edwards St.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

LUE M. WILSON

MANNING — Lue Mae Brunson Wilson, 74, wife of Leroy “Doc” Wilson, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2000, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Born May 22, 1926, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Blease Dingle and Sarah Frances Brunson Rose.
She was the stepdaughter of the late Haggar Rose.
The family will receive friends at the home, 314 W. Boyce St.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home.

MARTHA R. BAKER

MANNING — Martha Rush Baker, 59, widow of James Paul “Buck” Baker, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. Born June 24, 1940, in Vance, she was a daughter of the late Levy Harmon Rush and Ollie Williams Rush. Mrs. Baker was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, James Gordon Tracy Baker of Manning; a daughter, Deborah Metzger of Manning; two sisters, Frances Myers of Santee and Carrie Newman of Atlanta, Ga.; and three granddaughters. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Deborah Metzger, 852-T Jerro Road. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA CHAMPION

WEDGEFIELD — Emma Champion, widow of Charlie Champion Sr., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter. Born Jan. 1, 1905, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Efferson and Elizabeth Howard Efferson. In her youth, she joined High Hills AME Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities including the missionary society, stewardess board and usher board. Mrs. Champion was the mother and oldest living member of the church. She attended Sumter County public schools, Morris College and Benedict College. She spent over 55 years as a midwife in different areas of South Carolina. She was also the owner of a business known of “Mrs. Emma Champion’s Place” in Wedgefield. Survivors include three sons, Charlie Champion Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., Henry Champion of Houston, Texas, and Marion Champion of Sumter; six daughters, Carolyn Robinson and Nancy Champion, both of Wedgefield, Kattie Berry of Sumter, Elizabeth Golden of Queens, N.Y., Florence Clark of Albany, N.Y., and Emily Champion of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Carolyn McDuffie of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mary Hunt of Vaux, N.J.; three grandchildren she reared as her own, Granzie Champion of Jacksonville, Fla., and Thomas Robinson and Leroy Robinson, both of Queens, N.Y.; 50 grandchildren; over 100 great-grandchildren; and over 25 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three daughters, Elnora Smith, Beulah Champion and Binky Champion; three brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at High Hills AME Church with the Rev. M.C. Ragin, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Platt, Minister Marion Robinson and the Rev. Oscar Cooper. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at noon. The family will receive friends at the home, 4995 Cane Savannah Road, Wedgefield. Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

LESTER E. JOHNSON

ST. MATTHEWS — Lester Eugene Johnson of Route 3, Box 797, 78, widower of Marjorie Hyatt Johnson, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Jolley Acres Health Care Center in Orangeburg. Born March 13, 1921, in Pinewood, he was a son of the late Joseph Johnson and Itasca Johnston Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Garden City Baptist Church in Orangeburg, where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and served in the Philippine Islands. Survivors include a son, Randy Johnson of St. Matthews; two daughters, Jean Wellman and her husband, Charles Wellman, of Mt. Pleasant, and Joyce Austin and her husband, Richard Austin, of Orangeburg; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Garden City Baptist Church in Orangeburg with the Rev. James Preveaux officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Austin, 1655 Shillings Bridge Road, Orangeburg. Memorials may be made to Garden City Baptist Church, 681 Broughton St., Orangeburg, SC 29115. Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.

ETHEL S. JONES

Ethel Mae Scott Jones, widow of Charles A. Jones, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born Sept. 9, 1932, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Watkins and Alice Nathaniel Scott. Mrs. Jones attended Sumter County public schools and was a 1955 graduate of Lincoln High School. After graduation, she completed her nursing training at Bryn-Mar Hospital in Bryn-Mar, Pa. She was passionate about her nursing career and was a diligent and dedicated worker. She was baptized in her youth and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member, a member of the junior choir and junior usher board. When she moved to Philadelphia, Pa., she became affiliated with White Rock Baptist Church, where she served on the missionary society, the Young Women’s Club and other organizations. She returned to the Sumter community in 1998 and reunited with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, David R. Scott of Sumter; and a sister, Betty Scott Evans of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Blassingame, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, Pa. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, David R. Scott, 10 Edwards St. Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

ELMER C. TEDDER

Elmer Clifton Tedder, husband of Miyoko Tedder, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born March 29, 1935, in Eupora, Miss., he was a son of the late Gracie Lucille Tedder. Mr. Tedder was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He also retired from the S.C. National Guard. He served one year in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Limestone, Maine. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, George W. Tedder and Billy J. Tedder, both of Sumter; a daughter, Lisa A. Logan of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Ester L. Vaughn of Eupora; and two grandchildren; Derek T. Logan and Tanner J. Logan, both of Lincoln, Neb. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie L. Gatlin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home with the Shaw A.F.B. chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Members of the military will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Ray, Lanny VonCannon, James Braswell and Rodger Holman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home on Derwent Drive. Bullock Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

MAGGIE H. WILLIAMS

COLUMBIA — Maggie Hickman Williams, widow of Zack “Brown” Williams, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Brian Nursing Center. Born June 9, 1911, in Bishopville, she was a daughter of the late Gilford and Dora Boone Hickman. Mrs. Williams attended Lee County public schools. In her later years, she assisted in the adult education program at West Lee Elementary School under the leadership of W.W. Brooks, principal. Survivors include two sons, John Williams of Camden and Samuel Williams of Suitland, Md.; six daughters, Ruby Williams of Paterson, N.J., Lily Phillips of New York, N.Y., Helen McDuffie, Annette Williams, Wilhelmina Williams and Lynda Pearson, all of Columbia; 34 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barnettsville Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Evans, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsville Church Cemetery. Grandsons and Woodrow Elite will be pallbearers. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

MINNIE WILLIAMS

Minnie Williams, widow of Willie Williams, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Flushing, N.Y. Born in Greentown, she was a daughter of the late James and Emma Roberson. Mrs. Williams was a member of Bethel AME Church. She relocated to Richmond, Va., where she was employed as a packer in a tobacco factory until she retired. Survivors include two great-grandsons, James Robinson of Washington, D.C., and William Davis of Richmond, Va.; eight great-granddaughters; a sister, Elizabeth Wilder; and a niece, Alberta Tew-McGuire, and her husband, Willie Ray McGuire. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Davis. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel AME Church in Wedgefield. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The funeral procession will leave at 2:50 p.m. from the home of Elizabeth Wilder, 306 Pinson St., Sumter. The family will receive friends at the same home. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

J.W. “Rooster” Edens, 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
