BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Sarah Goodman Brayboy, 69, formerly of Manning, S.C., widow of Freddie Brayboy Sr., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at her home in Brooklyn.
Born April 6, 1930, in Orangeburg County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Willie J. Goodman and Virginia Summers Goodman and the stepdaughter of Ruth Goodman of Manning.
The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, Phillip Goodman, 956 Berry St., Manning, beginning Friday, Jan. 28.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning, S.C.

ANNIE L. BURROUGHS

LAKE CITY — Annie Lee Burroughs, 62, wife of Courtney Burroughs, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence after an illness.
She was a daughter of the late Dave and Annie Singletary Eaddy.
The family will receive friends at the home of her husband, 260 Independence Ave.
Services will be announced by Green’s Funeral Home.

ETHEL S. JONES

Ethel Mae Scott Jones, widow of Charles A. Jones, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East.
Born Sept. 9, 1932, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Watkins and Alice Nathaniel Scott.
The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, David Scott Sr., 10 Edwards St.
Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc.

IRENE LAWHORN

Irene Lawhorn died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

LYNCHBURG — Lloyd B. “Mickey” Mixon died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in a Hartsville hospital after an illness.
Services will be announced by Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta.

JOHN H. ARCHIE

FLORENCE — John Henry “Furman” Archie died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Born March 17, 1953, in Wedgefield, he was a son of the late Marion and Lottie Moore Archie. Mr. Archie attended Sumter County public schools. He was employed for many years in the farming industry. Survivors include three brothers, Sonny Lee “J.P.” Archie of Eastover, and Marion Archie Jr. and Coulie Archie, both of Sumter; and five sisters, Laura Mae A. Simmons of New York, Bettie Lee A. Felder of Orangeburg, Dorithy Archie of North Carolina, Minnie Lee Archie of Georgia and Carrie Lee Archie of Wedgefield. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Archie Dee and Mattie Mae Archie Green. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of James Funeral Home with the Rev. L.W. Walker Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Aycock Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of his aunt, Bernice Archie, 2415 S.C. 261, Wedgefield. James Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY H. CAMERON

LAKE CITY — Dorothy Hannah Cameron, of Bronx, N.Y., and formerly of Lake City, widow of Swail Cameron, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000. She was a daughter of the late John and Eva Epps Hannah. Survivors include her children, Cassandra Scott and Freda Cameron, both of Bronx, N.Y., and Franklyn Tony Cameron of Virginia; four brothers, Wilbur Hannah of Eastern, Conn., Freddie Hannah of Stratford, Conn., Sampson Hannah of Lake City and John Pressley Hannah of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Dollard, Ethel Singletary and Irene Graham, all of Lake City; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Believers Holiness Convention Center in Coward with Bishop Odell Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Sandhill Memorial Park. Green’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

C.R. “Bud” Conner, 66, husband of Bernice Lynch Conner, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Columbus Redman Conner and Janie Morris Conner. Mr. Conner attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He was retired from the City of Sumter. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include four daughters, Barbara Burrows and her husband Wayne Burrows, Wanda Finley, Renee Conner, and Peggy McTeer and her husband Adam Troy McTeer, all of Sumter; three brothers, Levern Conner of Effingham, Kenneth Conner of Timmonsville and Gerald Conner of Florence; a sister, Lorise Graham of Hartsville; four half brothers, Jack Conner of Sumter, Maxie Conner of Florence, Marvin Munn of La Grange, Ga., and Frank Munn of Pamplico; a half sister, Irene Lawhorne of Sumter; six grandchildren, Michelle, Adrienne, Justin, Matthew, Clint and Bridgett, all of Sumter; and a great-grandson, Taylor. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Chris Conner; a brother, Alvin Conner; and two sisters, Elouise Bass and Margie Smith. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dexter Matthews and the Rev. Eddie Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home, 2150 Rose Drive. ALCOLU — Jerome Nelson McLeod Sr., 85, widower of Martha Rawlinson McLeod, died this morning, Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter. Born Sept. 28, 1914, in Manning, he was a son of the late Jacob Lawson McLeod Sr. and Elizabeth Beard McLeod. Mr. McLeod owned and operated McLeod’s Grocery in Alcolu and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Manning United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert S. McLeod of Alcolu and Frank R. McLeod of Manning; two daughters, Florence Drew of Darlington and Martha Branham of Lugoff; a brother, E.B. “Gene” McLeod of Pinewood; 23 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Nelson McLeod Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Robert S. McLeod, Route 1, Box 560, Alcolu. Memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29205. Stephens Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.

ROSA C. WASHINGTON

Rosa Bell Wilson Carter Washington, widow of Moses Washington, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 1, 1908, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Bishop Carter and Adline Wilson Carter. Mrs. Washington attended Lee County public schools. In her youth she accepted Christ and joined Unionville AME Church. Survivors include two sons, Leonard Earl Franklin of the home and Robert Washington of Hamden, Conn.; two daughters, Bernice Smith of the home and Lizzie Jackson of Sumter; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Ibra Washington; a daughter, Jeronia Coburn; two brothers, William Carter and Manning Carter; and a sister, Minnie Dean. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Unionville AME Church with the Rev. J. Dupree, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ernest Jackson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Members of the church’s missionary will be flower bearers. The funeral procession will leave at 2:20 p.m. from the home, 20 Frazier St. The family will receive friends at the home.

REMBERT — Irene Miller Bradley, wife of Deacon Charlie Bradley, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at her home.
Born June 28, 1915, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Isaiah and Hattie Simon Miller.
The family will receive friends at the home, 5155 Black River Road, Rembert.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter.

OLEMA C. CARTER

LAKE CITY — Olema Cooper Carter, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at the home of her sister, Doris Singletary.
She was a daughter of the late George “Shine” Cooper and Lillie Barron Cooper.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Doris Singletary, 931 McFadden St.
Services will be announced by Green’s Funeral Home.

BISHOPVILLE — Roosevelt Dixon of 140 Jones Circle, husband of Sandra Jefferson Dixon, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in a local hospital.
Services will be announced by Boatwright Funeral Home.

OTIS JACKSON

BISHOPVILLE — Otis Jackson, 80, husband of Laurie Wilson Jackson, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.
He was the father of Haggins Jackson.
The family will receive friends at the home, 4215 Lucknow Road in Lee County.
Services will be announced by Boatwright Funeral Home.

Bernice T. Dixon Saunders, wife of Felton Dixon, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Hopewell Healthcare Center.

BISHOP LEROY DUKE

NEW ZION — Bishop Leroy “Roy” Duke, 76, husband of Agnes Mouzon Duke, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Joseph Bishop Duke and Margaret Othell Harrington Duke. Mr. Duke was a graduate of Gable High School. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. Mr. Duke was a member and deacon of Midway Presbyterian Church. Survivors besides his wife of New Zion include two daughters, Donna Faye D. Welch of Sumter and Marilyn Elizabeth D. Kennedy of Kingstree; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Midway Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Williamsburg Funeral Home in Kingstree. Memorials may be made to Midway Presbyterian Church. Williamsburg Funeral Home in Kingstree is in charge of arrangements.

OLANTA — Annie Gordon Floyd, 77, widow of Kenneth B. Floyd, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in a Florence hospital after an illness. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Simon Griffin and Mary Sue Kirby Griffin. Mrs. Floyd attended Wingate University and Newberry College. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Olanta Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Linda McGee of Florence; two sisters, Ethel Ruth Taylor of Anderson and Dr. Mary Claire Griffin of Olanta; and two grandchildren, Leigh Ann McGee of Florence and Melissa McGee of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Floyd Funeral Home. Burial will be in Olanta Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta is in charge of arrangements.

TROY M. HOFF

Troy Michael Hoff, 30, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Lexington from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born in Columbia, he was a son of George James Hoff Jr. and Paula Irene Lee Hoff. Mr. Hoff attended First Church of the Nazarene. He was a construction worker. Survivors besides his parents of Sumter include three brothers, Christopher Hoff of Sumter, Toby Brown and Dwayne Brown, both of Columbia; two sisters, Maria Hoff Gaston of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Melissa Brown of Columbia; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young of Dalzell and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Lee of Sumter; and his paternal grandmother, Lorene Hoff Koehler of Marysville, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. James Thrower and the Rev. B.W. Downing officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of his parents, 40 Echo Springs Court. Ellen Boyce Lackey, 75, widow of Edwin C. Lackey, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born Aug. 3, 1924, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Eckerd and Carrie Bell Boyce-Boyce. Mrs. Lackey was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, Robert J. Brunson and his wife, Gayle G. Brunson, of Sumter; a sister, Claudia Furr of Clinton; and a stepgrandchild, Joseph C. Ardis of Sumter. A private graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Mosier officiating. MILDRED F. MARROW

MANNING — Mildred Fields Marrow, widow of Shelby Marrow, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1916, in Norfolk, Va., she was a daughter of the late Junius F. and Marie Wilson Fields. Mrs. Marrow attended Norfolk public schools. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, she moved to New York City, where she was employed by the Department of Human Services until her retirement in 1991. Survivors include two brothers, Richard Fields of Chesapeake, Va., and the Rev. James R. Fields of Charleston; a sister, Evelyn Pegram of Richmond, Va.; and three sisters-in-law, Jerlean Fields, Melvina Fields and Madeline Fields. She was preceded in death by a brother, Moses Wilson Fields. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday in the chapel of Dyson’s Home for Funerals in Summerton with the Rev. William T. Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of her sister-in-law, Melvina C. Fields, 301 Brunson St., Manning. Dyson’s Home for Funerals in Summerton is in charge of arrangements.

LYNCHBURG — James Leroy Lowery, husband of Margaret Rufus Lowery, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born Dec. 11, 1935, in Lynchburg, she was a son of the late Charlie Lowery and Hattie Lowery. Mr. Lowery was a graduate of Dennis High School in Bishopville. He was a retired employee of A.Q. Mills of Timmonsville. He was a member of St. Matthews AME Church in Lynchburg and a member of the Do Right Lodge No. 377 in Lynchburg. Survivors besides his wife include four sons, Cecil B. Lowery of Baltimore, Md., and Carl L. Lowery, Marvin Lowery and Kenneth Lowery, all of Lynchburg; three daughters, Beverly G. Lowery, Connie Lowery Dickey and Shelia Lowery Epps, all of Lynchburg; a brother, Charlie A. Lowery of Lynchburg; three sisters, Maggie Lowery Wilkens of Sumter, and Rovenia Lowery McElveen and Frances Muldrow, both of Baltimore; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthews AME Church with the Rev. S.L. Gary officiating. Burial will be in Sanders Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of Do Right Lodge No. 377. Flower bearers will be members of the Order of Eastern Star Queen Chapter No. 247 in Lynchburg.
