EVELYN C. MYERS

FLORENCE — Evelyn Cusack Myers of 2301 Pamplico Highway, 92, widow of Francis Bernard Myers, died Friday evening, Jan. 1, 1999, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Born in Pamplico, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Houston and Georgianna Hyman Cusack.
She was a member of Willow Creek Baptist Church and the W.M.U.
Her husband died in 1986.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary M. and Perry Kirby of Sumter, and Betty Lamb and Max White of Florence; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Willow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Willow Creek Baptist Church, c/o Martha Garrison, Treasurer, 914 E. Springbranch Road, Pamplico, SC.
Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence was in charge of arrangements.

WANDA C. REECE

EASTOVER — Wanda Elaine Casey Reece, 50, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999. Born in Oilton, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Herschel and Lucy Casey.
Mrs. Reece was a member of Eason Memorial Baptist Church.
A loving person to all who knew her, she is survived by a son, Eddy P. Reece III of Sumter; a daughter, Lori Ann Reece Vasquez of Texas; three brothers, Jessie Casey, Elmer Casey and King Casey, all of Oklahoma; two sisters, Rosie Ennis of Oklahoma and Frances Beardsley of California; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya K. Reece. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eason Memorial Baptist Church in Eastover.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, in Columbia.

CAROLYN ROBINSON

Carolyn Robinson, wife of Johnnie Robinson, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born March 24, 1961, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Mary M. Brunson.
Mrs. Robinson was a 1979 graduate of Sumter High School, and she attended Sumter Area Technical College.
She was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where she sang with the T.O. Everett Jubilee Choir.
She was formerly employed at Bendix, Piggly Wiggly, Cole’s Restaurant, School District 17 and RTA.
Survivors include two sons, Jamini A. Manning and Johnnie Robinson Jr., both of the home; a daughter, Jessica Robinson of the home; a brother, Jerome King of Sumter; four sisters, Jeanette M. Sigler and Loretta M. White, both of Sumter, Melissa L. Hamilton of St. Stephen and Charlian L. Miller of Dalzell; her grandparents, Martha M. Harvin and Willie and Ernestine B. Manning; and her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Robinson.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. T.O. Everett officiating.
Burial will be in Walker Cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

GERTRUDE W. RUARK

CAMDEN — Gertrude Wilson Ruark, widow of Sidney Wilson, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 4, 1909, in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Eva Kelly Hinson.
Mrs. Ruark was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, the Rev. Eva Branham and Mae Hasty, both of Camden, Lucille Elliott and Jane Mozingo, both of Bishopville, Alice Shupe of Laurel, Del., and Ethel Arledge of Surfside Beach; three sisters, Mae Mattox of Columbia, Ethel Waters of Winnsboro and Louise Watford of McColl; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mel’s Chapel Church with the Rev. Carl Miles, the Rev. Kirk Baker, the Rev. Eva Branham and the Rev. Homer Hinson officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Norton Funeral Home in Bishopville.
Memorials may be made to Mel’s Chapel Church.

HAZEL B. SMITH

Hazel B. Smith, widower of Annie Smith, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at his home.
Born July 18, 1919, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Rev. Ishmel and Rosetta Bolden Smith.
Mr. Smith attended Sumter County public schools and graduated from Lincoln High School.
He served in the U.S. military in World War II, and he was a disabled veteran.
After his military service, he moved to Richmond, Va., where he lived for many years.
He later returned to Sumter.
He joined the Pentecostal Holiness Church in his youth.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Vivian Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren, Zizel Smith and Kaesha Smith, both of Philadelphia; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by two sons, a brother and four sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the National Cemetery in Florence with the Rev. Robert Rowe officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eston Wells.
The funeral procession will leave at 2 p.m. from Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc.
The family will receive friends at the home of Emma Williams, 1909 Fletcher Drive, Sumter.
Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

FLORENCE H. DICKERSON

Florence Hine Dickerson, wife of Norman P. Dickerson, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at National Healthcare of Sumter.
Born July 7, 1909, in Middleton, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Michael Hine and Margaret Foley Hine.
Mrs. Dickerson attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Middleton.
She and her husband were co-owners of Dickerson’s Fuel Oil and Bottled Gas Service in Middletown.
Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include a daughter, Donna Sannwald and her husband William Sannwald of Sumter; a sister, Frances Bentley of Middletown; three grandchildren, Mary Hood, Karen Sannwald and JoAnn Sannwald; and a great-grandchild, Regan Hood.
A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bullock Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church with the Rev. A. McKay officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sannwald on Sequoia Drive.

ANNIE B. GIST

UNION — Annie Booker Gist, widow of Ottis Gist, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.
Mrs. Gist was born in Union County.
Survivors include a son, James O. Gist of Sumter; two daughters, Marion Gist of Columbia and Jannie R. Gorden of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carnith Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Bush officiating.
Burial will be in Carnith Society Cemetery.
The family will receive messages at the home of James O. and Juanita Gist, 1004 Porter St., Sumter.

RICHARD HODGE

Richard Hodge, formerly of Sumter, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at his home in Newport News, Va.
Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late John and Mamie Butler Hodge.

MARY SUE D. HOLLAND

MANNING — Mary Sue DeCoster Fulton Holland died Thursday evening, Nov. 26, 1998, at the Florence Convalescent Center in Florence.
Born Dec. 10, 1927, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Abraham DeCoster and Suzanna Bradley DeCoster.
Mrs. Holland attended Williamsburg public schools.
She was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
She retired from the dietary department at Clarendon County School District 2 after many years of service.
She was first married to the late Leroy Fulton Sr., and then to the late Lawrence “Pete” Holland.
Survivors include a son, Leroy Fulton Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a niece who was her caregiver, Ella Pressley of the home; and a brother, Minister Willie DeCoster of Kingstree. Services were held at 11 a.m. today at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 105 Dinkins St., with the Rev. George P. Windley, pastor, officiating, assisted by Bishop James Pratt and the Rev. Cokley Richburg.
Burial was in Manning Cemetery.
The family received friends at the home of her niece, Ella Pressley, 203 Barfield St.
Samuels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MONTENEAL D. LAWRENCE

Monteneal Donye’ Lawrence died Friday evening, Nov. 27, 1998, in Bridgeport, Conn.
The family will receive friends at the home of Robert L. Lawrence Sr., 157 Lawrence Drive, Georgetown, S.C.
Services will be announced by Community Funeral Home in Sumter.

GABE SPRY

Gabe Spry, husband of Willa Mae Spry, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998.
He was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Clarendon County.
The family will receive friends at the home, 507 Sierra St., Sumter.
Services will be announced by Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home in Manning.

WILLIAM M. TOMLIN

SILVER — William M. Tomlin died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Windsor Manor Nursing Home.
He was a son of Roosevelt and Rosa Lee Davis Tomlin.
The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Wayne Tomlin, 195 Sawgrass Court.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter.

JERRY TUCKER

COLUMBIA — Jerry Tucker, 43, husband of Ardreen Tucker, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1955, in Sumter.
The family will receive friends at the home, 10-A Briarcliff Mobile Home Park, Dalzell.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter.

CLOROY C. WILLIAMS

PAXVILLE — Cloroy Conyers Williams of Route 1, Box 440-B, in the Paxville community of Manning, wife of David Williams, died this morning, Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning after an extended illness.
Born March 1, 1947, in the Paxville community, she was a daughter of Amos Conyers and the late Essie Mae Evans Conyers.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and her companion, Corinne Green and Leroy “Jock” Conyers, Route 1, Box 522, in the Paxville community.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.
