Clarkesville, GA – Kathy Diane Pearson Pruitt, 49 of 255 Spring Bank Dr., passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Oconee County, SC on April 28, 1957 to the late William Volley and Lucille Elliott Pearson, Ms. Pruitt attended Daytona Beach Community College where she obtained her nursing degree. She was employed by Gainesville Surgery Center in Gainesville, GA as a registered nurse.

Surviving is fiancé Robert W. Darby of the home, son Darrell R. Smith of Los Angeles, CA, brothers Roger, Earl and Donnie Pearson all of Westminster and Richard Pearson of Salem, sisters Patsy Couch of Walhalla and Bernice Brock of Statham, GA.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM, Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster, SC. Memorials in Kathy’s memory may be made to American Liver Foundation 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, NY 10038 or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Westminster – Flora Ann Honea Bryson, 80 of 981 Seed Farm Rd., died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Oconee County on September 9, 1926 she was retired from Dunlop after 29 years of service. Mrs. Bryson was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.

Survivors are sons James and Harry Bryson both of Westminster and Roger Dean Bryson of DeRidder, LA, daughters Judy McClure, Janice Chappell, Jennifer Anderson and Jackie Moore all of Westminster, brother Wayne Honea of Seneca, sisters Joyce Barnes of Walhalla and Margaret Barnes of Westminster, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Her husband, the late Jimmie B. Bryson, parents Joe and Bessie Cole Honea, brothers Evoyde, Winfred, Clifford, Amos, Clyde, Ray and Clayton Honea and sisters Margie Bryson, Alice Bryson and Effie Burns precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Friday, January 26, 2007 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Westminster. Burial will follow at South Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. The family is at the home of her son, James Bryson, 975 Seed Farm Rd., Westminster. Westminster – Inez Selma James Carver, 90 of 360 Selma Dr., died Monday, January 22, 2007 at Seneca Health and Rehab.

Born in Oconee County on November 14, 1916 to the late Arthur and Aubrey Smith James, she was a member of Westminster Church of God and a homemaker. Mrs. Carver was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are sons Tommy L. Carver of Westminster, Ronald E. Carver of Seneca, Harley R. Carver of Walhalla and Larry G. Carver of Bozrah, CT, daughters Betty Hawkins and Nina Albertson both of Seneca, Sue Kelley of Greenville and Martha Price of Westminster, 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, her husband James Harold Carver, sons James Denis and Gary L. Carver and brothers Aaron and Ernest James precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 12 PM, Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the home of daughter, Nina Albertson, 709 Tanglewood Dr., Seneca. Mtn. Rest – Ellen Fay Lee Ables, 81, wife of the late Clyde Ables, 280 Ables Dr., died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Long Creek in 1926, she was a former executive housekeeper at OMH and SCH. Mrs. Ables attended Berry College, and was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer and Sunday School Class teacher.

Surviving is son, Michael Edward Ables and wife Catherine of Snellville, GA., grandchildren, Meredith Leigh McDaniel and husband James, PFC. Christopher Michael Ables and wife Merry and Larry Todd Alexander and wife Charlene, 5 great grandchildren Tyler James McDaniel, Sterling Jane Caspersen, Catherine Faye Ables, Austin Todd Alexander and Myra Ann Alexander and brother J.C. Lee of Westminster.

Her husband, the late Clyde Ables, parents Edward Lee and Nell Phillips Lee Thrift, brothers Bruce and Fleet Lee and sister Miss Betty J. Lee precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 3, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Long Creek Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Foothills Foundation, 390 Keowee School Rd, Seneca, SC 29672. The family is at the residence.

Westminster – Dorothy Lorene Dyar Grant, 40, of 350 Grant Rd., died Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Oconee County in 1967 she was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Surviving is husband Steve Anthony Grant of the home, daughters Brittany Marie and Amber Lynn Grant of the home, parents Reverend Larry and Dorothy King Dyar of Westminster, brothers Larry Keith Dyar and Andrew Earl Dyar both of Westminster and sisters Donna Lynn Bryson of Fair Play and Melissa Renee Brown of Westminster.

Funeral services will be 2 pm, Sunday, July 29, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster with Rev, Gerald Morgan and Rev. Cliff Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the funeral home. The family is at the home of mother-in-law Bonnie McAlister, 360 Grant Rd, Westminster and also the home of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Dyar, 345 Cedar Wood Ranch Rd., Westminster. Flowers are accepted.

Westminster – Jurriel Faye Turner Burdette, 64, of 135 Welcome Church Rd., died Wednesday July 25, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in 1943 in Kings Mtn., NC she was a homemaker and a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons Roger Dale Turner of Westminster and Jonathan Scott Turner of Seneca, daughters Rita Langston, Felicia Craig and Brenda Bonham all of Westminster and step daughter Tammy Pitts of Georgia, brothers Ray, Larry and Stevie McNeely all of North Carolina, 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild and one step grandchild.

Twice married she is preceded in death by husbands John Bunyon Turner, Jr. and Carl Louie Burdette, parents Samuel JD and Irene McKee McNeely, sons Timothy Lane Turner, Johnny Turner and David Turner, daughters Connie Sue Turner and Cynthia Delores Turner.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Chauga Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Burdette will lie in state at 1 PM.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM, Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. The family is at the home of daughter, Felicia Craig, 9226 Long Creek Hwy, Westminster, SC 29693. Westminster –Ruth Davis Sheriff, 83, of 2783 Toccoa Hwy, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in 1924 in the Hopewell Community of Westminster, she was a contributing columnist for the Westminster News and a homemaker. Mrs. Sheriff was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Surviving are son Ronnie Sheriff and Diane, daughters Linda Wilmot and husband Clark, Bobbie Jean Cole and husband Joe, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and sisters Carrie Quinn, Mary Mefferd and Sylvia Wood all of Westminster.

Her husband Fred Junior Sheriff, parents Thomas Russell and Bessie Allred Davis, brother Jack Davis and sisters June Garner, Eva Rae Adams and Bobbie Jo Owens precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 3 PM, Saturday July 28, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Chief Master Sergeant James Edward “Jim” Merritt, 76 of 271 Rodgers Rd., Earles Grove Community, Seneca, died Sunday, 22 July, 2007 at his residence.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of James E. Merritt, Sr., and Opal Merritt-Williams. He was a member of Earles Grove Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. Chief Merritt was retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) after thirty years of active military service during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received many military awards and decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal. Chief Merritt graduated from Clemson University, Cum Laude, after his retirement from the USAF and taught science and mathematics in high school in Oconee County for a short while. He was a Life Member of the Air Force Association and Air Force Sergeants Association and a volunteer at Oconee Memorial Hospital from 1994 until February 2007, where he accumulated well over 3000 hours of volunteer service.

Survivors are his wife, Polly M. Merritt, a daughter, Wanda and husband Luther Cartee of Seneca, a son and daughter-in-law Dean and Angela Merritt of 603 Shadow Oaks Dr.,Easley, 29642, and a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Yvette and David Rochester of Seneca, Grand Children, Kendall and Kaleigh Merritt, Macy and Josh Rochester, Hollie Carroll and DeAnne Cartee, and a special sister, Lola Morgan.

His first wife, Juanita M. Merritt, preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Earles Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Kenny Owen officiating. Burial will follow with full Military Honors by Shaw Air Force Base in Earles Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, July 24th at Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. Memorials may be made to Earles Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 398 Cedar Lane Rd., Westminster, SC 29693 or OMH Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Rd., Seneca, SC 29672.

Seneca – Eugene “Gene” Garwood Long, 78 of 108 Peterson Rd., died Monday, March 26, 2007 at Seneca Health and Rehab.

Born in the Cross Roads Community on November 24, 1928 to the late Edward and Lyda Boggs Long, Mr. Long was a retired weaver with La France Industries for 49 years and was an avid coon hunter. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Elliott Long, of the home, daughter Bobby Sue Rochester of Cherokee, NC, stepson Rick Smith and wife Wanda of Seneca, , brother Glenn Long and wife Frankie of Seneca, sister Patsy Cooper and husband Frankie of Seneca, one grandson Stephen Rochester, two great grandchildren Brittney and Braylyn Rochester and one great-great grandchild Brooklyn Rochester and five step grandsons.

In addition to his parents, his first wife Maebell Lee Long, brother William E “Shorty” Long and sister Mary Davis precede him in death.

Funeral services will be 4 PM, Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 2-4 PM, Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the home of Rick Smith, 350 Knox Campground Rd., Seneca, SC and their respective homes. Westminster – Vera Cheryl Lee, 45 of 202 Oak Street died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at her home.

Born in Oconee County on December 20, 1961 she was the former site manager for the Counsel on Aging. Ms. Lee was a member of Damascus Baptist Church.

Surviving are fiancé Gordon Whitten, brothers Tony Lee of Clarksville, GA, and Jack Lee of Pickens, sisters Syble Goss and Linda Smith both of Westminster, Sally Sinacori of Walhalla and Mary Mimms of Columbia, and 44 nieces and nephews.

Her parents Ronnie Brown and Mary Virginia Whitman Lee and brothers Kenneth, Curtis, Mitchell and Ralph Lee precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday, March 25, 2007 at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted.

Westminster – Charles “Charlie” Stoddard Jenkins, 75 of 115 Towe Rd., died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Moonville, SC on July 17, 1931 he was the owner and operator of Oconee Livestock Auctions. He was an auctioneer and blacksmith and had shod horses for over 37 years. He also enjoyed farming. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include sons Leslie Vernon Jenkins and wife Vickie of Belton, Robert Scott Jenkins and wife Shawn of Westminster, brother Palmer Jenkins and wife Elaine of Wichita Falls, TX and sisters Catheryn Scott of Piedmont, Ruby Flemming of Columbia, Virginia Skiados of Washington, DC, Nora Ellen Stewart of Pelzer, Harriett Henchock and husband John of Simpsonville, Thalia Jo Cohen and husband Alan of Apex, NC, Barbara Fennell and husband Joe of Florence, Sara Bolt of Hickory Tavern, five grandchildren Tara, Terry, Eddie, Jason and Shannon Jenkins and two great grandchildren David and Justin Jenkins.

His parents Charlie A. and Grace Garrett Jenkins, sons Charles Linden, Eddie and Wayne Jenkins and brother John Jenkins precedes him in death.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Monday, March 26, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 3-5 pm, Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or memorials to The Boys Camp, 111 E. Windsor St., Westminster, SC 29693 may be made in Charlie’s memory. The family is at the residence.
