GEORGE JOHNSON

Easley – George Marvin Johnson, 70 of 918 Crestview Dr. formerly of Return Church area, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Oconee County on September 4, 1936 to the late Charles Eugene and Minnie Orr Johnson, he was retired from a variety of occupations and most enjoyed selling produce. His hobbies included golf and fishing during retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include sons Terry Johnson and wife Joy of Spartanburg and Gary Johnson of Easley, brothers Ray Johnson of Seneca and Manley Johnson of Summerville, one granddaughter, Torey Johnson of Spartanburg.

In addition to his parents, brothers Albert, Glenn and Eugene Johnson and sisters Lila Mae Bramlett, Ruth Bibbs and Bernice Sosebee precede him in death.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday, March 22, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow in Return Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-8 PM, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, Memorial and Home Program, National Processing Center, PO Box 1130, Glen Allen, VA 22038-1130.

Ella Della Hart, 101, of 3275 Toccoa Hwy., Westminster, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 in Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Williamsburg County, SC, December 13, 1905 to the late Joseph Limuel & Martha Alice Poston Tilton; she was the widow of Thomas Jerry Hart. Mrs. Hart was a bag maker with Union Bag Company, Savannah, Ga. and a member of the N.T. Holiness Church.

Survivors: Sons – Joe Hart of California and Johnny Hart of Lavonia, Ga.

Daughters: Vera Wilbanks of Westminster and Jewell Capps of Seneca.

30 Grandchildren and 30 Great-Grandchildren

Funeral Services will be 11 AM, Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel, Westminster with burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, on Monday, March 19th at the funeral home.

Flowers are accepted. The family is at the home of Vera Wilbanks, 3275 Toccoa Hwy,. Westminster.

Westminster – Nettie Drucilla Carver Metcalfe, 80 formerly of Westminster died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Lila Doyle Nursing Center.

Born in Oconee County in 1926 she was a homemaker. Mrs. Metcalfe attended True Christian Fellowship.

Surviving are sons Leonard Hugh Carver of Cleveland, TN, three grandchildren Ryan Heath Carver of Nashville, Heather Elizabeth Carver and Tyler Hugh Carver.

Her husband J.D. Metcalfe, parents Leonard and Essie Ramey Carver and sisters Minnie Ramey and Beulah Ramey precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, June 30, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow in Calvary Church of God Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, June 29, 2007 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Men and Women of Action, PO Box 2430, Cleveland, TN 37320. The family is at their respective homes.

Westminster – Billy Frank Turner, 59 of 1820 Clearmont Rd., died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at his residence.

Born in Pickens County in 1949, he had been retired Mayfair Mills in Easley prior to retiring from Square D Company, where he retired. Mr. Turner was a member of Clearmont Baptist Church in Westminster.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Diana Brock Turner of the home, children Michael Mauldin, Dawn Turner, Lamar Honea and Sherry Gibson, brothers Carl Turner and wife Carolyn of Easley, Buford York of Easley, Roger Turner and wife Vickie of Easley and Ken Turner and wife Betham of New Jersey, sisters Betty Cantrell and husband Doyle of Pickens, Louise Medlin of Easley, Pat Jenkins and husband Charles of Easley, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

His parents Carl and Sadie Moore Turner and sister Ranelle Sentell precede him in death.

Funeral services will be 3 PM, Friday, June 29, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow in Clearmont Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the residence and flowers are accepted.

Seneca – Betty Wynne Barnett, 79 of 6005 Kaye St., died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Regency Hospital/ St. Francis in Greenville.

Born in Oconee County, she was a graduate of Westminster High School and retired from Kendall Company where she was a seamstress. Mrs. Barnett was a member of Utica Baptist Church.

Survivors include son David James of Seneca, stepson Larry Barnett, stepdaughter Judy Barnett brother Pruitt Wynne of Westminster, sisters Frances Marcengill of Westminster and Ruth Moss of Greenwood, grandchildren Jessica James, Ashley McGhee and Sandy Locklair, step grandchildren Christopher Barnett and Patrick Barnett and great granddaughter Emily Rose Locklair.

Twice married, her first husband John Warren James and second husband John Lewis Barnett, sons Randal Wynne James and Douglas Franklin James, parents Furman Franklin and Ethel Cheek Wynne, brothers Dennis and Ralph Wynne, sister Dorothy Callaham and grandson John Ivan James precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Friday June 29, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted.

Seneca - Rosa Lee Pointer, 79, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, of 618 Evelyn Dr. passed away June 24, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Westminster in 1927, she was a pastor’s wife and homemaker. Mrs. Pointer was a member of Lydia Baptist Church, the past president of the Woman’s Missionary Union, Sunday school teacher and Discipleship Training teacher.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Rev. Carl W. Pointer, sons Jerry Thomas Pointer and wife Dee of Pendleton, Carl Danny Pointer and wife Elizabeth of Greer, daughter Sandi Lee Cox of Piedmont, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Her parents Wade and Zelia Smith, brother Clarence Smith and sister Louise Cox precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 7 pm, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted or memorials in Mrs. Pointer’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

He was born in Columbia, SC. His occupation was Landscaping.

He is survived by his Mother Patricia Doss John and Step-Father Jens John of Bluffton, SC , Father Michael Larry Barrett of Wallace, NC, brothers Michael James Barrett and wife Courtney of Bossier City, La., Bradley Eugene Barrett of Clemson and Zach Mitchell of Westminster, Paternal Grandparents Gene & Joy Barrett of Richlands, NC.

His maternal grandparents, James & Nellie Doss precede his death.

Funeral Services will be 4 PM, Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Calvary Church of God. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 at the church prior to the service.

The family request memorials be made to the Youth Center, Calvary Church of God, 10102 Long Creek Hwy., Westminster.

Seneca – Mary Arnold Brown died peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Inn of Seneca,
after a long illness.

Born in 1912 in Atlanta, Georgia, she moved to Hilton Head Island in 1972 where she resided until moving to Seneca in October 2006. Prior to her retirement, she worked in accounting. She was an avid bridge player, gardener and an observer of wildlife.

Surviving are daughter, Elaine Brown Keane and husband Terry Keane of Seneca, two grandchildren, Jamie Keane and Molly Lilienthal and two great grandchildren, Brian and Taylor Lilienthal.

Her husband William A. Brown, parents Howard and Frank Clark Arnold and daughter Linda Jeanne Brown precede her in death.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills Foundation, 390 Keowee School Rd., Seneca, SC 29672 or Hilton Head Humane Association, 10 Humane Way, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.

Westminster – Dennis Furman Wynne, 94 of 1111 Seed Farm Rd. died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at his residence.

Born in Oconee County to the late Franklin Furman and Ethel Cheek Wynne, Mr. Wynne was retired from the SC State School Bus Shop where he was a mechanic. He was a member of Clearmont Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Surviving is daughters Brenda W. Carnes of Westminster and Joyce W. Brewer of Walhalla, brother Pruitt Wynne of Westminster, sisters Frances Marcengill of Westminster, Betty Barnett of Seneca and Ruth Moss of Greenwood, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, wife Nellie “Nell” Idell Brooks Wynne, brother Ralph Wynne, an infant brother and sister Dot Calaham precede him in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday, May 31, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted.

Townville – Mabel May Lopez Williams, 67 of 4128 Pine Grove Rd. died Monday, May 28, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Hilo, HI she was a retired from JP Stevens where she worked as a back winder. Mrs. Williams was a member of Earles Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving is husband Harold Lee Williams, Sr. of the home, daughters Shelby Blackwell and husband Ron of Westminster, La Donna Hill and husband David of Seneca, Tina Gail Griffin and husband Roger of Seneca and Paula Grubbs and husband Greg of Fair Play, sons Harold Lee Williams, Jr. and wife Meredith of Westminster and Fabian Dale Williams and wife Jennifer of Seneca, brothers Larry Torrase of Jacksonville, FL, John Martinez of Hilo, HI and Paul Martinez also of Hilo, HI, sisters Margaret Lopez and Linda Martinez Frazier both of Hilo, HI. 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 4 PM, Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Earles Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-8 PM, Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted or memorials in Mrs. Williams memory may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29626.

Westminster – Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Land Rogers Henry went to be with her parents in Heaven on May 27, 2007.

Born and raised in Westminster, she was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother.

Surviving are Ed Hare of the home, daughter Melissa Rogers and husband Jerry of Westminster, sons Sandy Rogers and wife Teresa of Westminster and Casey Rogers and wife Julie of Walhalla, stepdaughter Christine Hare of Oklahoma and brother Terry Land and son Allen of Westminster, six grandchildren Jessica, Breanne, Wade, Amanda, Hannah and Tanner Rogers.

Her parents Rufus Allen and Gladys Josephine Owens Land precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12 – 2 pm, Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

The body will be at the home where the family will receive friends on Tuesday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in Libby’s memory in care of Sandifer Funeral Home, PO Box 69, Westminster, SC 29693. The family is at the residence.
