Peggy J. Sinclair

Peggy J. Sinclair, 77, 608 SC Highway 56, Spartanburg, died Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Spartanburg Regional Health Care.
Ms. Sinclair was born July 25, 1928 in Union County, a daughter of the late W. R. and Lillian Daugherty Sinclair. She was a retired nurse.
Ms. Sinclair is survived by two sisters, Mary Stevens of Pauline, and Jane Fowler of Union; three brothers, William (Bill) Sinclair of Spartanburg, Stanley Sinclair of Columbia, and Steve Sinclair of Jonesville; and a special niece, Diane Gresham Smith of Newberry. She was predeceased by a sister, Clara Lunsford and a brother, Robert Sinclair.
Graveside funeral services for Peggy J. Sinclair will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in Newberry Memorial Gardens by Rev. Walter Green and Robert P. Smith.

Foster Lockhart
December 3, 2005

Foster Lockhart, 88, of 1410 Magnolia Terrace, Newberry, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Mr. Lockhart was born on January 8, 1917 in Charleston, WV. He was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, Neil Trusedale Sunday School class, and a former member and elder of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charleston, WV. He was an employee of Union Carbide in Charleston, WV for 36 years. After retirement he moved to Newberry, SC.
Mr. Lockhart is survived by his wife, Justina C. Lockhart of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Bill Witherell of Charleston, WV; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Patti Lockhart of Jasper, GA; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and was predeceased by a grandson, Brett Witherell.
Funeral services for Foster Lockhart will be conducted in Charleston, WV.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 P. M. Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun St., Newberry, SC 29108 or J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home, 1330 Kinard St., Newberry, SC 29108.

James E. “Tank” Dominick
January 27, 2006

James E. “Tank” Dominick, 43, of 1772 Colony Church Road, Newberry, died Friday, January 27, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Dominick was born in Newberry, a son of Eula Mae Wicker Dominick and the late Jacob James Dominick. He was an employee of Kibler’s Inc. for 24 years and owner of A. J.'s Boarding Kennel. He was a member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, Amity Masonic Lodge #87, Newberry Chapter #226 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was an associate member of the S.C. Callers Association.
Mr. Dominick is survived by his mother of Newberry; his wife, Abby Dowd Dominick of Newberry; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mark McMurtury of Whitmire; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Mark A. Dominick of Newberry and Bobby and Paula Dominick of Whitmire; four nieces; four nephews; and a number of adopted nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:30 to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family was at the residence 1772 Colony Church Road, Newberry.
Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip’s Church Road, Newberry SC 29108.
Active pallbearers were Leland Kibler, Tony and Linda Jones, Randall Jones, Connie Holsonback, Brian Beck, Clifford Gill, Wayne Fulmer, Wayne Gibson, Bill Laird, Robbie Franklin, Jimmy Smith, Brock Longshore, Steve Rister, Gordon Minick, Brandon Pou, Donnie Lominack, Paul Bowers, and Justin Moates. Honorary pallbearers were will be Penny, Andrew and Summer Hamm, Bobby Stockman, Mary Gallman, Kim Murphy, Randy Sims, Brandy Worthy, Tiffany Riddle, Tiffany Summers, Scott Long, J.P. Toland, Thomas Bates, Kasey Hill, Martha Kinsler, Jonathan Gallman, and Charles and Roxanne Fulmer.

Alda Rae Hawkins Pugh Amick
January 24, 2006

Alda Rae Hawkins Pugh Amick, 88, of 1808 Stoney Hill Road, Prosperity, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Amick was born in Prosperity, a daughter of the late George I. and Rilla Epting Hawkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Dorcas-Eve Circle of the WELCA, Grace Sease Sunday School Class, Grace Leisure Hour Group, St. Luke Lutheran Church New Horizons, the Iris Garden Club, and the Stoney Hill Community Center.
Mrs. Amick was twice married, first to the late Leroy C. Pugh, Sr. and second to the late R. Haskell Amick. She is survived by one daughter, Julia P. Kyzer of Columbia: three sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy C. and Mary Alice Pugh, Jr. of Whitmire, Terry M. and Gayle Pugh of Columbia, and Roy H. and Amy Amick of Alpine, TX; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy Wise of Newberry, Elise Martin of Prosperity, and Reba and Earl Weisner of Aiken; one brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Gee Hawkins of Greenville; eight grandchildren and spouses, Timothy Pugh, Mason Pugh, Tanya and Brian Williams, Trina and Larry Poston, Sheri and Bryan Brown, Renee Pugh, Cory LeGrande, and Lauren Amick; and eight great-grandsons, T.J. and Justin Pugh, Mason Pugh, Jr.; Zachary, Andrew, Matthew and Daniel Poston, and Aidan Brown. She was predeceased by a son, Melvin Pugh: a granddaughter, Maria Pugh; a sister, Arlie Frazier; and a brother, Biddle Hawkins.
Funeral services were conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Eric Fink and the Rev. Dwight Wessinger. Interment was in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Bus Fund, PO Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Active pallbearers were Grady Wise, Mike Hawkins, Roscoe Bedenbaugh, Rudy Hawkins, Ralph Frazier, Lyndon Weisner, Steven Lake, and Larry Lake. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Dorcas-Eve Circle, the Grace Sease Sunday School Class, and the Iris Garden Club.

Annie Lee Burns Baxter
January 16, 2006

Annie Lee Burns Baxter, 101, of Newberry, widow of James Carroll Baxter, died Monday, January 16, 2006 at White Oak Manor in Newberry.
Mrs. Baxter was born on October 11, 1904 in Rutherford County, NC a daughter of the late Leander Columbus and Laura Ethel Mitchum Burns. She worked for Cooner’s Department Store. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Lucy Epps Bible Class, Central U. M. W. #6 and the Marion Davis Mothers Club.
Mrs. Baxter is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean Wiggins of Newberry, and Carol Ann Rowe of Sherrills Ford, NC; a brother, Jack Burns of Valdese, NC; six grandchildren Jean Stone, Jan Moore, Jeffrey Wiggins, Carol Miller, Craig Rowe and Baxter Rowe; eleven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were conducted 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Central United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. John Miller. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 PM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Wiggins, Joe Moore, Craig Rowe, Baxter Rowe, Jeffery Miller, Grant Shook and Tyler Rowe.

Richard Tai Phan
January 10, 2006

Richard Tai Phan, 81, of 321 Player St., Newberry died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Self Regional Healthcare.
Mr. Phan was born on September 2, 1924 in Hong Kong, a son of the late Hung Phan and Mui Phung. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam.
Mr. Phan is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Thai Phan of Newberry; three daughters, My Huong Phan of Greenwood, My Anh Phan Nguyen of Newberry, and Julea Phan Ingold of Lexington; seven sons, Nang H. Phan of Newberry, Tri H. Phan of Greenwood, Robert T. Phan of North Augusta, Timothy H. Phan of Austin, TX, Woody H. Phan, of Cary, NC, Dave H. Phan of Bogart, GA, and Thinh H. Phan of Seattle, WA; three sisters; two brothers; 23 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica Phan Nguyen.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Rokuzan Kroenke. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family was at his residence, 321 Player St., Newberry.
Active pallbearers were his sons and sons-in-law.

Floyd A. Meetze
January 4, 2006

Floyd A. Meetze, 62, of 7398 Broad River Rd, Pomaria, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Lexington Medical Center.
Mr. Meetze was born on February 17, 1943 in Newberry County, a son of the late C. J. “Moses” and Erline Shealy Meetze. He was an employee of Lutheran Homes of S.C. at the Lowman Home Nursing Center, White Rock, SC and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard and Consolidated #5 Fire Department. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, the Congregational Council, Lutheran Men, Woodmen of the World Lodge 1054, S.C. Fraternal Congress, Midlands Log Roller, Pomaria Masonic Lodge #151, Little Mountain Eastern Star, and Men’s Breakfast at Bethany at the Lowman Home.
Mr. Meetze is survived by his wife, Cathy Hentz Meetze; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and John Hollowell of Richmond, VA and Candace and Todd Coker of Pomaria; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard Earl and Judy B. Meetze of Newberry and Melvin “Pete” and Judy A. Meetze of Pomaria; five grandchildren, Rebeckah Hollowell, Hannah Coker, Katie Coker, Amanda Hollowell, and Jeremy Hollowell; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church by Pastor Mark Bredholt and Chaplain Gary Lyerly. Interment was in the church cemetery.
The family did receive friends at the residence, 7398 Broad River Road, Pomaria.
Active pallbearers were Mike Meetze, Pat Meetze, Scott Meetze, Luke Meetze, Jacob Meetze, Joshua Meetze, David Meetze, and Nick Morris.
