April 25, 1932 -- Feb. 6, 2004

SENECA -- Mildred Crooks Thrasher, age 71, of 841 Crooks Rd. Seneca, died Friday, Feb.6, 2004, at her residence.

Born on April 25, 1932, she was a homemaker, a member of the "Oconee Belles" Red Hat Society, Return Baptist Church, the Adult 4 Sunday School Class and Choir.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Rudolph Thrasher of the home; son, Douglas Edward Thrasher of Atlanta; daughter, Patsy Thrasher Perry and husband, Wade of Seneca; brother, Lewis Crooks of Greenville, Rev. Alvin Crooks of Seneca and Stanley Lane Crooks of Anderson; and one grandson, Cody Perry.

Her parents, A.C. and Mozelle Moore Crooks, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Return Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Whaley, Bill Evans and Charles Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The body will be at the church for one hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672. The family is at the home. Mrs. Elma Graham

Feb. 17, 1922 -- Feb. 4, 2004

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Mrs. Elma Rhodes Graham, age 81 of 3723 Centerville Road, Anderson, S.C., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at NHC HealthCare in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, S.C., on Feb. 17, 1922, Mrs. Graham was a daughter of the late Edgar George Hubbard and Hattie Sally Williamson Hubbard. She was retired from the Singer Company and was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, John M. Rhodes of Anderson; daughter, Cindy Rhodes Ecleberry, Charleston, S.C.; sister, Mildred Hubbard Streeter of the home; a one grandson, Lance M. Rhodes of Greer, S.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, McDuff Rhodes and Henry Max Graham; daughter, Donna "Tootie" Rhodes Greenwood; brother, George Edgar Hubbard and daughter-in-law, Joyce Loftis Rhodes.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the church.

The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home.

The family will be at the residence, 3723 Centerville Road, Anderson, S.C.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 5901 S.C. 187, Anderson, S.C. 29625.

Nellie Taylor

Nov. 21,1915 -- Feb. 6, 2004

ANDERSON -- Nellie Anna Merck Taylor, 88, of 820 Bleckley St. died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in Anderson.

Born in Eastanollee, Ga., she was a member of Old Hephzibah Baptist Church in Townville and was a former textile employee of Orr-Lyons Mill.

Surviving are sons, Richard Taylor, Ray Taylor and Jackie Taylor, all Anderson; sister, Ellen Pierce of Anderson; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Raymond A. Taylor and the daughter of the late John Jackson Merck and Dora Lee Merck. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Brown; two sisters, Flora Cleveland and Mertie Fowler; two grandchildren, Chris Taylor and Jackie Brown; and a great-grandson, Kevin Dunn.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at The McDougald Funeral Home by Chaplain Richard Taylor and Tony Edmonds; burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church cemetery, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of her son, Richard Taylor, 850 Due West Highway, Anderson.

Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity one's choice.

Ronnie Oscar Wilbanks

PENDLETON -- Ronnie Oscar Wilbanks went to be with our Lord and Savior at his home on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004. He was a retired truck driver from Milliken, a member of Grace Independent Baptist Church of Walhalla and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Ronnica and Charles Owens of Pendleton; son, Travis Wilbanks and Ashley Kaleto of Seneca; parents, Virgil and Annie Bell Wilbanks of Walhalla; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Jim Arflin of Walhalla; and four grandchildren, Brian and Rebecca Wilbanks and Tyler and Abby Owens.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial in Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruth Lee

PENDLETON -- Ruth Smith Lee, 87, of 245 Thompson St. died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at her home.

The family will be at the home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by D.B. Walker & Co. Funeral Services.

Sue Butler Hornick

SENECA -- Sue Butler Hornick, 71, of Seneca died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Lila Dole Nursing Care of Seneca.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca.

The Rev. Stanford Downs

July 16, 1914 -- Feb. 3, 2004

SENECA -- Stanford Alexander Downs, of 310 W. South 3rd St. died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson.

Born in Red Star, W.V., he was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Leeanna Washington Downs. He was educated in public schools in Red Star and worked several years in West Virginia Coal Mines. He moved to Detroit, where he was employed with the Ford Motor Company for 30 years and retired. He was a member of St. John United Presbyterian Church (USA) where he served as a Boy Scout leader, deacon and elder in Detroit. After retiring, he moved to Pendleton. He was a member of Christ Community Church in Seneca on June 29, 1980. He became an ordained minister where he served as associate pastor. He served as preacher at Salem Presbyterian Church (USA) and Eastminister Presbyterian Church (USA) in Anderson, also a preacher in an A.M.E. Church. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Retirement Club in Pendleton and was one of the associate pastors at Christ Community Church in Seneca.

Surviving are son, Stanford Jackson of California; brothers, Travis Downs of Indianapolis, Ind., and Arthur Downs; sister, Neva Evans of Cleveland, Ohio.

Services are at 4 p.m. Monday at Christ Community Church, Seneca, by the Revs. E. Haynes, Nancy Robinson and Michel Haynes.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Foothills Foundation, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672, or to Christ Community Church, 100 Abbott St., Seneca, S.C. 29678.

Wakeford C. "Bill" Mosley

Aug. 30, 1916 -- Feb.2, 2004

LANCASTER -- Wakeford C. "Bill" Mosley, 87, of 1263 Laurel Ave. died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the Springs Memorial Hospital.

Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late William and Lula Spradley Mosley. He was a member of the White Springs Baptist Church. He had retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are his widow, Pauline Bailey Mosley; daughters, Jeanne Vincent of Lancaster, and Debbie Anderson of Pendleton; brother, Buford Mosley of Kershaw; sister, Susie Outen of Laurens; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Whaley Mosley and Wylie Mosley and a sister, Pearlie Hunter.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at White Springs Baptist Church by the Revs. Steve Neal and Tommy Brazell; burial with Military Honors were held at Lancaster Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel and at other times they were at the home.

Memorial gifts may be made to White Springs Baptist Church, 1249 Grace Ave., Lancaster, S.C. 29720.

Wilma Frazier Williams

ANDERSON -- Wilma Frazier Williams, 57, of 106 Meadow Hill Drive, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

The family is at the home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 1212 South Main St., Anderson.

Billy Whitfield

July 19, 1934 -- April 8, 2004

FOUNTAIN INN -- William "Billy" Merritt Whitfield, 69, of 946 Hillside Church Road, husband of Jeanette Fant Whitfield, died Thursday, April 8, 2004.

Born in Townville, he was a son of the late Bobby Lucius and Beatrice Merritt Whitfield. He was a graduate of Clemson University, retired from the U. S. Navy after serving twenty-three years, was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and the Boer Goat Association, and served as Commissioner of the Dunklin Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Wendy Whitfield of Charleston, Bobby and Jodi Whitfield of Powdersville; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Joey Taylor, Kim and Larry Samples, all of Fountain Inn; and seven grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was predeceased by a grandson, William Sample.

Funeral services will be 3 pm Sunday at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer by the Rev. Roy McCall. Members of the Dunklin Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 6-8 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Brandon Nash

May 6, 1987 -- April 7, 2004

ANDERSON -- Christopher Brandon Nash, 16, of 160 Wexford Drive died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Anderson.

Born in Anderson, he was a sophomore at Westside High School.

Surviving are his parents, Michael Dennis Nash and Tracy Alverson Nash of Anderson; brother, Michael Dennis Nash of the home; and his grandparents, Duane and Judy Sutherland of Belton, Joyce Elise Nash of Anderson, and Pelham Alverson of Honea Path.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at The McDougald Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Nation; burial will be in Garden of Memories, Belton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Family members will be at the home of his grandparents, Duane and Judy Sutherland, 3615 Old Williamston Road, Belton.

Cora Lewis

March 31,1907 -- April 5, 2004

SENECA -- Cora Lewis, 97, of Seneca died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Lila Doyle Nursing Home.

Born in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Julia C. Lewis.

She graduated from Oconee Training School. She was employed at the Oconee Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Cheohee Baptist Church of Westminster. She was active in the Womens Auxiliary and was a faithful pianist before moving to Detroit, where she joined the First Baptist Church in Harntrack, Mich., and later she moved her letter to Ebenezer Church and served on the Usher Board before returning to Seneca in 1996.

Surviving are daughter, Jullie Garnell Logan of Detroit; sisters, Alma Louise Gaines and Florence Dorsey, both of Seneca; brothers, Robert and Howard Lewis; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cheohee Baptist Church of Westminster; burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Westminster. Visitation was held on Friday at Mary J. Gilbert Chapel of Gilbert Funeral Parlor of Seneca.

Donald Ralph Castle

SALEM -- Donald Ralph Castle, 82, of 633 N. Lake Drive died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Elyria, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph Vernon and Hazel Brown Castle. He was the widower of Betty R. Castle. He was a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are son, Evan Castle of Between, Ga.; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Castle of Georgia.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery by Dr. C. Von Reynolds. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30 p.m. before the service.
