Edith Marie Holland Ellison

BELTON -- Edith Marie Hollond Ellison, 87, widow of Ralph F. Ellison, of 106 Carroll Lane, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Lee Holland and Venie Hiott Holland. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she attended the Philathea-Fidelis Sunday school class. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Nancy Mitchell of Belton, and Joe E. Jones of Birmingham, Ala.; son, Lewis Ellison of Williamston; brother, Levis Holland of Williamston; sisters, Lucille Campbell and Mildred Staton, both of Williamston; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin L. Ellison and Terry R. Ellison; and two sisters, Ethel Ellison and Grace Pollard.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Belton by the Rev. Dale Lynch and Dr. Booker Bagby; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday before the service at the church's Family Life Center of Belton.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Belton.

Edrew "Ed" Branyon

Edrew "Ed" Branyon, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Hospice House of Anderson.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.

Esther Campbell

ABBEVILLE -- Esther Eugenia Campbell, 82, of 600 N. Main St. died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Arthur David and Martha Angeline Stewart Simpson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Surviving are widower, Bennett G. Campbell of the home; daughter, Betty Irwin of Taylors; sons, Don Campbell, Ronny Campbell and Richard "Rick" S. Campbell, all of Abbeville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home by the Rev. Earl Hartley; burial will be in Bells United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family is at the home.

Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 505 W. Greenwood St., Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Faye King

Dec. 10, 1922 -- April 9, 2004

ANDERSON -- Annie Faye King, 81, formerly of 109 Manley Drive, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at the home of her daughter.

Born in Toccoa, Ga., she was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Starr, where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday school class and was a former nursery worker. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Randy King of Starr; daughters, Rachel King Young of Starr, and Terri King Dickson of Anderson; brothers, L.T. Burdette of Fort Valley, Ga., Calvin Burdette of Dexter, Ga., and Ray Burdette of Dothan, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Guy E. King and the daughter of the late Loomis Burdette and Lydia Bentley Burdette.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Burdette; and two sisters, Vera Flynn and Margaret Savage.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church, Starr by the Rev. Gary Bill; burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at The McDougald Funeral Home, and the body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Monday.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Rachel King Young, 807 Good Hope Church Road, Starr.

Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church, 6707 S.C. 81 South, Starr, S.C. 29684, or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.

Gertrude Wicks McRae

ANDERSON -- Gertrude Wicks McRae, widow of Lewis B. McRae, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center. A native of New Orleans, LA, she was the daughter of the late Armon F. and Bert Erroll Wicks. She was a member of Roberts Presbyterian Church, a loving wife and mother, and dedicated Christian.

Surviving are: daughters: Jan M. Erb and husband Donald, of Anderson, and Boots Mallgren and husband Jerry, of Chickasaw Point; Grandchildren: Don L. Erb, Randy L. Erb, Terry M. Hamrick, and Debbie L. Mallgren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 12 noon, at Roberts Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roberts Presbyterian Church, 2716 S. Hwy 187, Anderson, SC 29626, or charity of choice.

Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gladys Mattress

STARR -- Gladys Richardson Mattress, 89, of 4022 S.C. 81 South died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Willow Creek Nursing Home.

The family is at the home and at the home of her niece, Mamie L. White, 625 Martha Drive, Anderson.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by D.B.Walker & Company Funeral Service.

Lillian Elizabeth Couch

July 23, 1924 -- April 9, 2004

ANDERSON -- Lillian Elizabeth Couch, 79, of 30 Hammett St. died Friday, April 9, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Anderson.

Born in Anderson, she was a member of Orrville Baptist Church and was retired from Orr-Lyons Mill.

Surviving are sons, Dr. Roger Couch of Easley, and Mike Couch and Greg Couch, both of Belton; brother, Leroy "Bo" Evans of Anderson; sisters, Dessie Mae Cann and Kathleen Parham, both of Anderson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of David Haskell Couch and the daughter of the late Raymond F. Evans and Janie T. Evans. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold Evans and Donnie Evans; and two sisters, Lucille Gosnell and Penny Evans.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at The McDougald Funeral Home by Dr. Wendell Bannister; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Family members will be at the home.

Mary Henrietta Holcombe Snyder,

Mary Henrietta Holcombe Snyder, 75, of San Angelo passed away Thursday, April 8, 2004, in San Angelo. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Harold Peterson officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later time at Townville Presbyterian Church in Townville, S.C. Henrietta was born March 9, 1929 in Gastonia, North Carolina to her parents Henry W. and Aileen Hovis Holcombe. She graduated from Anderson High School and she also attended the University of South Carolina, the Citadel, the University of Geneva in Switzerland and Angelo State University. She married Jerome W. Snyder on March 15, 1959 in Anderson, S.C. Henrietta was a Claims Examiner for the Social Security Administration in Charleston, S.C. from 1955 to 1975 and in San Angelo from 1975 to 2000. She loved Opera and was an avid supporter of the fine Arts including "Arts at ASU" and The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

Henrietta is survived by her loving family, Husband Jerome W. Snyder, of San Angelo; Daughter, Lucy A. Snyder, of Columbus, Oh.; Aunt, Helen Turner, of Anderson S.C.; Cousin, Robert Holcombe, of Anderson, S.C.; Special Friends, Harold and Beth Peterson, of San Angelo, Gene and Joan Richling, of San Angelo, Anita Rainey, of San Angelo, Carol Seiler, of Dallas and Sherry V. Takeall, of San Angelo; and many of her Co-Workers at the Social Security Administration.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to her nurse, Sherry V. Takeall for all of the loving care she gave to Henrietta. Memorials may be made to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

Selma Louise Craig

SENECA -- Selma Louise Allen Craig, 72, of 104-C Field Village Drive died Friday, April 9, 2004, at her home.

The family is at the home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Gilbert Funeral Parlor, Seneca.

Carroll Wilson

ABBEVILLE, S.C. -- James Carroll Wilson, 75, resident of 1443 Hwy 24 North, husband of Laurita Hall Wilson died June 8, 2004 at The Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born in Abbeville, Co. SC he was a son of the late John Rosemond and Lucille Ware Wilson.

Carroll was a retired supervisor with Milliken Textiles Abbeville Plant and the City of Abbeville. He was a Mason and member of the Antreville Dew Drop Lodge. He was also a shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Abbeville Shrine Club. He was an active member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors are his wife, Laurita Hall Wilson of the home; daughter, Janice Wilson Boyles of Abbeville, SC; grandson, Tyler Wilson Boyles of Abbeville, SC; two sisters, Mary Saylors of Abbeville, SC and Ann Hammond of Anderson, SC; brother, Thomas Rosemond Wilson of Ft. Myers, FL.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Boyce Wilson.

Funeral services will be conducted, 2:00PM Friday, June 11, 2004 at Little Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Parks officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family received friends from 6:00 until 7:30PM Thursday evening. The family is at the home 1443 Hwy 28 North, Abbeville, SC.

Memorials may be made to Little Mountain Presbyterian Church, 3836 Hwy 28, Abbeville, SC 29620 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.

The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, Abbeville, SC is in charge of arrangements.

WESTMINSTER -- Codie Taylor Ward, 92, of 150 Wards Drive, widow of the Rev. Willie Reed Ward, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Lila Doyle Nursing Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sandifer Funeral Home of Westminster.

Ethelene Cain

May 27, 1933 -- June 8, 2004

ANDERSON -- Ethelene Cain, 71, of Ellenburg Nursing Home died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

She was a member of La France Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was the daughter of the late John Cain and Mrs. John Cain. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Mae Cain, and a sister, Jessie Doris Smith.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Old Silverbrook Cemetery by the Rev. Patrick Keown. The body is at the The McDougald Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Family members will be at their respective homes

Flossie Robinson

WARE SHOALS -- Flossie Marie Robinson, 41, of 14 Briar St. died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Walker Funeral Service, Ware Shoals.

The family is at the home of her sister, Ethel McGrier, 310 Dunn Creek Road, Donalds.

Frances V. Hawkins

Nov. 27, 1933 -- June 9, 2004

ANDERSON -- Frances Virginia Greenway Hawkins, 70, of 26 Gilmer Drive died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, she was a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Danny L. Hawkins of Walhalla; daughters, Becky Lester and Libby Sauls, both of Anderson, and Pamela R. Fowler of Iva; brother, Truman Greenway of Anderson; sister, Imogene Scoggins of Lowndesville; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Lewis Edward Hawkins and the daughter of the late Lindsey Alexander Greenway and Lessie Tyner Greenway. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Maddox; and a grandson, Scott Lance.

Services are at 3 p.m. Friday at The McDougald Funeral Home by Thad Ellett, hospice chaplain; burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Becky Lester, 3232 Keys St., Anderson.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.
